thank you. thank you. >> leading up to today's caucuses. santorum making it clear he had to win kansas to stay competitive. the latest numbers from the associated press showing he got 51% of the vote. mitt romney coming in second in kansas with 21%. newt gingrich with 14. ron paul with 13%. perhaps not much of a surprise though considering romney and gingrich largely did not campaign in the state of kansas. instead they focused on the two big southern primaries next week alabama and mississippi. romney winning just moments ago. the associated press calling wyoming for mitt romney. they have been caucusing there since tuesday. polls closed just an hour ago and now the vote is coming. in in socially conservative kansas it seems rick santorum stands to gain a large number of that state's 40 delegates. alyssia acuna live in wichita at this hour. you and your crew talked to santorum just before he headed next door to missouri. what did he have to say?

>> that's right, harris. we were talking to him as the returns were coming. in things were starting to look good here. here is what he had to say. >> i think shows that people are looking for someone who reflects their values and can win. that's the real combination here. the more people look at this race, someone like governor romney who increasingly hard to tell the difference on some of the biggest issues of the day between obama care between governor romney and the president. >> kansas was an important win for him. he needs the delegates. he came to campaign trips. made stops in mississippi and alabama. and the lead up to the primaries there. folks here, harris, were saying that they wanted someone who mirrored their conservative values and they say they found that in rick santorum so really no big surprise here. back to you. >> harris: people talking about kansas. i mentioned wyoming going to romney and he had other wins today to brag about. >> that's right, harris.

he received as you mentioned the majority of the delegates and the g.o.p. caucuses there in wyoming. he also won in two of the u.s. territories northern islands as well as guam. and that's where there was just 250 eligible voters. they showed their choice by raising their hands instead of using paper ballots. 18 delegates from those two islands do go to romney. gingrich meantime continues his push through to the south. is he counting on voters there and his ties to that region of the country being that he is from georgia. >> okay. and we don't have that piece of sound there. if we look ahead, both santorum and gingrich will be campaigning tomorrow all looking race on tuesday. back to you. >> thank you very much. the nomination race still a close one making every delegate matter. romney picking up a few delegates in the u.s. territories of guam. the u.s. virgin islands and the marianne that islands as

plan to bring up the keystone amendment for a vote again very soon. new developments tonight in syria. not a lot of hope. that the blood shed against the citizens there will end any time soon. syrian forces bombarding a rebel strong hold in the northern part of the country earlier today. and there was this development. syrian president bashar assad meeting with the united nations envoy kofi annan. assad doug mckelway following the story in our d.c. newsroom. was there any between assad and kofi annan? >> syrian state television described the talks as having a positive atmosphere. aside from that there appears to be little hope to the end of the blood shed there despite a non-statement of, quote, grave concern about the violence. assad said today that no progress can be made as long as, quote, armed terrorist groups continue to spread anarchy in this country. meanwhile, there are reports that as many as 3,000 syrian

refugees have fled into lebanon crossing bridges and roadways that have been mined and shelled by assad's army. western reporters there are continued antidotal reports of rape, torture and slaughter of innocence by the army. the u.s. has no intention of intervening militarily at this point. our goal is to try to approach the issue of syria on an international basis. the international community has brought sanctions against syria. has condemned syria. has made a specific request for assad to step down. >> one of the major concerns about military intervention for the u.s. is russia's reaction to it russia's foreign minister sergei met with iran has repeatedly said that russia would consider any intervention by western military forces a violation of international law, harris. >> one senator in particular john mccain out of arizona has been speaking out against the obama administration's policy.

tone courage talks with the taliban. pentagon spokesperson telling fox news just a few hours ago no decision has been made yet about held at the military prison. we do know harmid karzai said earlier today five taliban detaineesees have agreed to be transferred to cutter. this after the detainees met with afghan delegates visiting the prison. the obama administration has suggested the transfer could work as an incentive to helper suede the taliban to negotiate for peace in afghanistan. senator john mccain of arizona speaking up on this. he is the top republic on the senate armed services committee calling it quote, a very, very bad idea. well, first, some perspective on this. let's take a closer look at the prison's history. gitmo has 77 people that have been taken there since 2000 2 over the years, 600 of those detainees have been released. and out of those who got out, 167 or nearly a third have reportedly reengaged or suspected of reengaging with

fortunately both the deputy and the judge survived. >> there had been a commotion in the hallway and i came out to see what it was. >> he had a weapon in his hand. a knife or something. and he was stabbing at her and that's what i got stabbed with. >> this was breaking news yesterday afternoon and on into the saturday with a manhunt. we are now getting details about how police finally caught steven crabbats apparently mom tipped them off. >> harris, get. this police say that the gunmen, are you ready called his mom and asked her to come pick him up from the crime scene yesterday and she did. clearly she did not know what had happened leading up to this although we don't know at this hour if she could potentially face charges here. but the woman you see the mom is in fact the one who called police today and told them of the whereabouts of her 34-year-old son. he was at her house.

cops arresting him at the home in olympia washington about 40 miles east of where this all happened. now, we still do not know why 34-year-old steven crafats went to that courthouse yesterday. he didn't have business there. he didn't have a hearing that he knew of. and he did not know any of the victims. there is no security at that courthouse. the sheriff's department was ultimately called because he was reportedly asking strange and hanging around the building when the female deputy showed up, that is when things went south and fast. >> waited for the deputy and went pop pop and turned and looked at me and then he went out the front door of the courthouse with the gun in his hand. >> now, police telling us they have now recovered that 45 caliber service weapon. it was at the mother's house. both deputy polydavin and judge david edwards were treated and released from hospital yesterday. fortunately no no serious

injuries, harris. >> casey, as i know we were covering this as breaking news yesterday. there were a lot of questions. one of them had to do with safety at that courthouse. >> yeah, the safety of that courthouse had been questioned before. interestingly, according to the associated press a lawsuit had been filed and the judge who was injured recently joined that lawsuit, sort of protesting budget cuts, county budget cuts. cuts that they say made that courthouse unsafe because there is no security on duty as we said. and also no metal detector and some are saying that if a metal detector was installed that could have, perhaps, prevented this whole thing from happening, harris. >> casey, thanks very much. it has been called nascar on skis. a new racing event in the olympics and very popular among spectators. tonight though one star skier is dead. witnesses saying it was a freak accident at a world cup ski cross event in switzerland. canadian racer was in the final jump of the race when he

>> harris: i'm harris faulkner. it's "the fox report." bottom of the hour time for the top of the news. rick santorum winning the kansas caucuses today with 51% of the vote. he stands to get 33 of the state's 40 delegates at this point. and in wyoming, where caucuses ended about an hour ago. the associated press reporting mitt romney has won that state. he he took seven of the 12 delegates at stake there. democratic congressman jay endsley of washington says he is stepping down to focus on his governor campaign. he has represented washington since 1999. also in washington word of an aarrest tonight an attack on a judge and sheriff's deputy. it was breaking news yesterday on fox news channel. police say the suspect stabbed the judge and shot the deputy with her own gun before making a run for it a police surveillance operation getting some reaction tonight.

the new york police department reportedly targeting muslims in neighboring new jersey. critics argue the surveillance op. major envision the privacy, supporters say it was a precaution to protect new york from terrorists who are willing to do anything to strike the city. anna joins us now. two very different trains of thought on this. the debate heating up. >> a little bit of he said she said as well. not in charge at the time said two newark officers did accompany new york police during a couple days during the secret surveillance of new jersey muscles. but -- muslims. he says they were never briefed. he also disputed reports that his department received a copy of the report on muslim. the 2007 surveillance reportedly involved photographing mosques eavesdropping and monitoring muslim groups. students representing over 65

tebow inboun invited he and hisy to a broncos home game next season. a major violation of trust and perhaps the most fundamental principle of our democracy, one person, one vote. two public officials pled guilty in a voter fraud case in charleston, west virginia. >> reporter: the sheriff was sworn to uphold the law, but he pled guilty to breaking it in a shocking felony voter fraud case. prosecutors saboma say bowman to stuff a ballot box with illegal absentee ballots during the 2010 primary. he pled guilty in federal court at midding he sent more than 100 fraudulent absentee ballots. he admitted the crime inside court, but outside he refused to say anything. >> sheriff, why did you try to stare the election? sheriff? why did you try and fake the absentee ballots? does he have anything to say to

the voters. >> reporter: along with bowman, the lincoln county clerk pled guilty to lying about the alleged scheme. the candidate who lost, charles brunfield, said he was stunned the election was stolen. >> how does it feel to realize that you were a victim of voter fraud? >> well, actually, it's hurtful, you know. you just didn't think that that would happen today, in today's society. >> reporter: he says on election night he was aheld by 235 votes when batches of absentee ballots suddenly started appearing out of nowhere all night until bowman overtook him in the vote count and was declared the winner. a judge eventually tossed more than 300 absentee ballots and declared that brumfield won. he said voter fraud hurts everyone. >> people, the honest voter, they make the comment well, there's no use for us to vote. that makes the voter turnout go down. >> reporter: the west virginia secretary of state said the case shows voter fraud will be prosecuted. >> if you attempt to chip away
