herself into the sandra fluke controversy. you knew it would happen. >> how did this happen? >> caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. the factor begins right now! >> bill: hi, i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. the decline of american power continues. that is the subject of this evening's talking points memo. a few months ago t points stated that the u.s.a. is declining in power mainly because of our weakened economic position which includes everything we do including military action. right now there are three very troubling challenges to american leadership. first, afghanistan. president karzai now demanding the u.s. and coalition forces pull back from the countryside and basically stay in designated bases. karzai is corrupt inseptember leader reminiscent of the south veems clowns who ruined their country inspite of

60,000 measures killed there trying to defend south vietnam. karzai has legit beefs. you have got to expect blow backs when a sergeant masters 16 civilians. all in all the u.s.a. has sacrificed massive, massive blood and treasure to try to give the afghan people a better life. karzai couldn't care less. is he truly a villain. in iran, the mullahs continue to defy the united states and the world because they don't fear president obama. perhaps they should. mr. obama is on record as saying he will not allow the iranians to build a nuclear weapon. the president can't back down from that if he is elected we can expect military action against iran unless they wise up. the big reason the iranians can defy the u.s.a. is because china is helping them. here is the main challenge to american power. the chinese will understand we have a 16 trillion-dollar debt and they are holding more than a trillion dollars of it. economically, we are beholden to communist china. and things are getting worse. you will remember that president obama said his new budget would reduce the deficit by 3.2 trillion over

the next 10 years. now, now. the nonpartisan congressional budget office says that's bogus. the cbo predicting the add 3.5 trillion to the debt in the next 10 years. if that's true, that's a 9 trillion-dollar mistake by the obama administration. and nothing is being done to solve the immense spending problem. today marks the ninth anniversary coalition attack on saddam hussein. back in 2003, we quickly deposed the heinous dictator while trying to give the iraqi people a better life. the same thing we are doing now in afghanistan. that invasion in iraq marked a downturn. since then $1.2 trillion in actions in iraq and afghanistan. money we simply don't have. in addition, more than 6,000 military people have lost their lives. nearly 50,000. 50,000 have been wounded. talking points america needs

resurrection. get the federal government under control. come up with a budget. reinvigorate economy by allowing the private marketplace to run. president obama is smart enough to understand that but he continues to play to his left wing base. 8 months from now. that may lead to his defeat. and that's the memo. now for the top story tonight. reaction, joining us from iraq washington. fox news analyst karl rove who was in the white house nine years ago today when the iraq invasion began. where am i going wrong here, mr. rove. >> first pick out the areas of agreement. you are right picking iran as a significant security threat to the region to the very existence to israel. it has been mishandled by the president. i think you are also right in pointing out the debt as being our biggest economic driver. it's keeping our economy from growing and it represents a real threat to america's prosperity. i would say -- i need to correct your numbers a little bit. the public debt of the united states the debt is composed of two things.

public debt secure ties to the form of bond and sold to someone is roughly $10.1 trillion and the chinese own a trillion dollars plus of that. the total debt is over $15 billion. but the difference between 15 billion and. >> bill: trillion you said billion. >> trillion. government obligations. one part of the government owes the government another part. the cbo said that the end of 2022 that that would be roughly $18 trillion the administration had forecast $15 trillion. and, look, historically the administration the obama administration is underestimated the deficit and underestimated its spending but you are right. it represents a huge threat and they're doing little, even congress is doing a little bit to restraining it but the president's budget proposal, which is what we are talking about here calls, you know, sort of says after next year we are going to dramatically increase spending again and let it go wild. >> bill: so, look. and as i said in the talking points memo. barack obama is smart enough to know what you just said. all right?

he knows he went go up against the left wing of the democratic party. that shows me that he is not putting his country first. that he is putting his political fortunes before the welfare of the united states. and i don't think there is any question about that i agree is he smart. your diagnosis this is a problem. i think he thinks we can solve this by simply raising taxes. >> bill: come on. even if you raise taxes, the cbo's revenue prediction don't come close to covering. nobody on earth will say raise taxes and you can cover. you can't cover. >> right. we have got to restrain discretionary spending. but we have to do something which is very tough for this president to do and that is restrain entitlement spending over the medium and long term which means we need to act and act now. now, i do disagree with you on a couple of points. karzai i have a slightly

different view. you can call him inept and say it's a corrupt regime. i don't think is he personally corrupt. >> bill: hold on. let me stop you. explain then the afghan bank run by his cronies. >> brother. i don't think he has a bank account set aside. >> bill: i don't think he knows what his brother is doing with the afghan bank and siphoning off all that money. >> yeah. i think they accept this as business as usual. >> bill: that's corruption. >> i know. there is a difference between the tolerating corruption and being corrupt yourself. >> bill: no there isn't a difference. if you tolerate you are corrupt. hold on. let's say he is inept and toler rates corruption. i don't think the problem though is that the biggest problem this guy is sitting there saying to himself. president obama sent less than three quarters of the troops that the commander said needed to secure iraq as part -- afghanistan as part of the surge. then he turned around around said they're out of here on a date certain. this guy is now trying.

>> bill: he has all the right in the world to be teed off. this guy, now we find out the afghan air force is dealing heroin. transporting heroin on the planes. this guy knows what's going on. he is corrupt. >> he is not necessarily tolerating that pay attention to the main point. which is this guy is trying to figure out how he can keep his country together once america bales out on him which we indicated we are trying to do, why are going to do. >> bill: london with a big flat with a big swiss bank account. last question here. do i believe that america's decline started when the iraq war went south. i do believe that. >> i don't agree. >> so much money. so much horror. >> bill, you are wired up about a trillion two spent on afghanistan and iraq. that includes incidentally the cost of keeping our military even wasn't in combat together during that period of time. look at this. we spent $862 billion in one year on a failed stimulus bill.

we are spending $600 billion on welfare payments that the president set up in a program called making work pay which takes money from people who pay taxes and gives it to people who don't pay taxes. right for us after 9/11 would not tolerate a failed state in afghanistan that served as a base for attacks in our country. after 9/11 the change would we could no longer say tolerate a guy with wmd in the heart of the middle east. >> didn't work out the way we wanted it to. >> yes, it did. iraq is today a reasonably stable, somewhat democratic regime which represents a different model for the region. i remember sitting with the leader, with the chief of staff to the leader of the palestinian authority who said to me after the fall of saddam hussein does america understand that the world changed with the fall of the dictator and now we have hope in the middle east because of experiment that is taking place in iraq. we have no reason to apologize for it and it's not -- >> bill: i didn't apologize for it i thought what we did was try to give the iraqi people a better life.

it could be a blow to him. illinois is a state that doesn't set up particularly well for him. it's an important state. it's big midwestern state. doesn't look good to lose big there. >> bill: media setting it up that illinois is more conservative now than it ever has been. and i love the media run up. that santorum could do well. because, again, we talked about this. mainstream media would love to have rick santorum as the nominee running against president obama. however, some polls today showed santorum beating obama one in one in the five, you know, key ohio, north carolina, florida those states. be careful what you wish for. i think that -- i think if romney wins big tomorrow night, that that will reenergize his campaign. that he will then become, go up another level hangs on to louisiana on saturday. >> i think gingrich is hanging on just to -- i think he maybe decided is he not going to win. riding around and campaigning

they would throw us out so quickly bill they wouldn't know what hit us. those standards haven't changed. what's changed is the media landscape. ed schultz and a lot of others on cable tv aren't journalists. we were journalists. they are not journalists. this is where it gets tricky. but they do shows where they sit in front of, you know, in back of desks that look like anchor desks. they interview news makers, they talk about the news of the day. it's sort of, kind of, looks like journalism but it isn't journalism. >> bill: that's an important point. ed schultz primarily is a radio talk show guy. that's what he does. radio talk show host. and he gives his opinion and radio talk show hosts are allowed to take money, anybody. anyone they want. all right? they can do commercials. they can juggle on the air and ring ling brothers. they can do whatever they want. but then when they get hired by nbc news, all right? because that's who pays schultz' salary. they pay his salary. so, therefor he he is in a

different world now. no doubt about it in one year the afl-cio gave him 200,000. that's a lot of money, okay? whatever he did the with money really doesn't matter because he didn't disclose during his commentaries on the air that are all prounion 100% down the line that he received this enormous amount of money from this labor union. he didn't say it. so, i'm saying to myself, gee, that seems to be a pretty flagrant violation of nbc news standards. i agree it's wrong. not a violation of msnbc standards. reasked them about that today. they say as long as he gives the money to charity and says in advance or asks permission in advance to speak to a certain group it's okay. >> bill: he doesn't have to viewer. he just has to get permission from the -- >> that's right. that's their standard.
