i could have told you that. >> alisyn: thank you. partridge... >> clayton: tomorrow, allen west will be here and rudy giuliani and country music star lee bryce, join us in the after the though show and we'll find out more about this... >> eric: we start with a "fox news alert," desperation in syria. government forces storming and shelling a suburb of the capital of damascus. as you can see, the new eassumption of violence one day after -- eruption of violence after the u.n. security council increased the number of monitors there to 300, good morning, i'm eric sean. >> jamie: i know you have been following it all week for us, eric, thank you so much, i'm jamie colby and we want to welcome to you america's news headquarters, a brand new hour, the truce monitors are losing credibility with the people they are supposed to protect and that is the reaction they received yesterday from protesters, take a look:
7:01 am
>> jamie: mostly in arabic but you can see, the discontent there, the cease-fire was put in place, more than a week ago. but, it is now hanging by a thread. and in danger of completely unraveling, the uprising in syria is this longest of the rebellions in the middle east and one of the deadliest. united nations estimates that at least 9,000 people have died since those protests began last march, activist groups say that number is actually much higher. >> eric: and another "fox news alert," to tell you about. this comes from one of syria's closest allies, iran. tehran now claiming that it has actually cracked the codes of our u.s. spy drone they captured last year and iran says it is beginning to build an exact camy

of the american drone. it is the sophisticated aircraft called the rq-170 sentinel and, iran says it shot down the drone last december and u.s. officials say that it now functions and it accidentally landed -- malfunctioned and accidentally landed automatically and since then, tehran has flaunted its capture and putting it out during a news conference, saying they are able to exploit the technology they've captured in that drone and they plan to use it against the united states. joining us now is former u.s. ambassador to the united nations, john bolton, a fox news contributor. and joins us every sunday, at this time. good morning, ambassador. >> good morning, eric, glad to be here. >> eric: what will they do with the drone they are copying to use against us? >> well, i think everything that the regime in iran says with a grain of salt but, there is almost no doubt that they have made this drone available to russian and chinese scientists an technicians. who are looking both at the aerodynamics, the skin of the
7:03 am
drone, the way it flies and its capabilities, but, also, what is inside of it, both the hardware and intelligence, surveys and reconnaissance equipment and the software to the extent they are able to get into the innards of the thing. so when you hear an announcement like this from iran today i'm sure there is some grain of truth in it. and, that is very troubling, that we knew this was a problem when the drone went down. but, how much they've actually got, i think, only our most sensitive scientists and intelligence community decisionmakers know and i hope they've got discipline, not to be able to talk about it. so that it doesn't get out in broader public discussions. >> eric: the iranians are boasting what they've gotten out of the software and they say the drone was in california, in 2010, and the -- we were working on the sensors in los angeles with this thing and then, it was in kandahar and also in pakistan and they say two weeks before
7:04 am
usama bin laden was killed. so maybe this was one of the drones that we used to carry out that operation. what does it tell you, when they have boasted and are claiming that he have got all of this information? into well, it may well be they've been able to get that out of whatever limited memory capability is in the drone but in order to save weight among other things, most of the drone technology involves sending the communications out of the drone through satellites back to facilities in the u.s. or elsewhere. what would be really troubling is if the iranians or their russian and chinese helpers had been able to figure out ways to get into those computer systems back in the home bases, that would be really troubling. but as i say, i think most of this is going to be in the realm of speculation and propaganda. >> eric: the president, if you recall, asked for it back. that didn't happen. it is reminiscommend -- reminis
7:05 am
scent of gary powers and the soviet union, and why is the obama administration downplaying this? there is gary power, huge back in the 1960s. >> thank goodness we have drone technology that doesn't endanger our pilots or the propaganda the iranians have would be greater but a curiosity of the obama administration, is the president almost single-handedly is responsible for killing usama bin laden, but, he seems to have been away when the drone went down. i don't understand that disconnect, myself. >> eric: one would think, just a layman would say it could be a potentially huge intelligence failure. i mean, why didn't they have a button to push and we could blow it up before the iranians or the russians or the chinese or anybody else could get it and use it against us? >> well, that apparently was under consideration, but the weight of such a device would reduce the amount of utility the drone would have and actually
7:06 am
gather -- in gathering intelligence and another thing they've said is they try and minimize what could be lost when you put a drone over hostile territory and that is hard to credit as well, since the whole purpose of these drones is to put them over hostile territory, to gain intelligence. i think the basic conclusion is, that it is and significant loss for the u.s. in terms of both the technology of the stealth drone itself, but, also, the intelligence-gathering capability. it is a risk you take but i don't think we should casually minimize it. i think it is significant and we need to work to find ways to avoid this happening or at least minimize the chances of it happening going forward. >> eric: and finally you have been at the highest levels of the intelligence services of the country, i mean, publicly, it seems that the administration is, as you say, casually minimizing this, but, you know, behind the closed doors, they are going, oh, man, uh-oh. >> well, they should be, because i do think, again, not just with
7:07 am
the iranians but because of the chinese and russian involvement here, iran has gained a huge bargaining chip to give the russians and chinese access to this. will buy them political support, in the security -- in support of the nuclear weapons program and their activities in syria, supporting the assad regime, so, there is a lot of mischief that the iranians are able to cause with this drone and nobody should underestimate that. >> eric: good point, you want the drone, moscow? support us. >> exactly. >> eric: ambassador, thank you so much as always, see you next sunday. >> thank you, eric. >> jamie: breaking developments in the a decades-old missing child case in new york city. a 6-year-old disappeared while walking to a bus stop in manhattan's soho section, downtown and, 33 years later, investigators right now, digging up the concrete floor of a basement near etan patz's home

7:12 am
angle and say it was a big defeat for the tea party. i would actually argue that it really wasn't, and that it -- both of those races, while they ultimately lost, forced republicans -- changed republicans and made republicans cue to a more conservative line and i think, that they -- i think the only reason they sort of have gone away for a bit it is we have not had election and now we see they are still here and still making a difference. >> jamie: talking about orrin hatch, utah and you also have indiana, with luger. how conservative is conservative enough for someone who is a member and supporter of the tea party? >> well, you know, it is really tough, especially for a couple of long time veterans, like orrin hatch and dick luger who have been in office since the '70s and have been around a very long time. you don't remain in this town that long without cutting a lot

of deals, and making a lot of compromises. and, quite frankly, that in and of itself is a real problem for many tea partiers. they have been generally supportive of things like term limits, because -- simply because it means that you don't stick around here for that long and sort of lose the, you know, roots of -- from back home. so, it -- i think that even if orrin hatch -- and, let's not overstate the trouble that orrin hatch and dick luger are in, they are still incumbent and are in very good positions to fend these attacks off, but, they will have become changed politicians, themselves, just by running these campaigns, that you never would have seen them run a few years ago. >> jamie: has the demographic of a tea party member changed? how would you describe someone that is actively involved in the
7:14 am
tea party movement? >> that is a great point, jamie and i think, i think that the demographics very much have changed. and i think that as frustrations mount with washington, and the sort of out of control senseless spending, i think that for a lot of these tea party folks, have appealed to, you know, the platforms appealed to a lot of people that wouldn't necessarily have called themselves, you know, arch conservatives or republicans, a few years ago. but, you know, more mainstream folks or even people that are maybe on the other side of the spectrum, more libertarian types but have all sort of -- have found that, you know, this is our only hope, at this point, is to sort of get back to the very basic roots of you know -- the tea party tries to espouse, and, to find ways to get a grip on the massive out of control government.
