unaccompanied minors are coming in across texas border. you go back and illegal immigration has been an issue for many years here. compounded by the drug cartels realizing that the mexican u.s. border they could operate without impunity. they have operational control on some sides of the border. we have 23 citizens in mexico most likely, i don't know if they have been identified yet, cartel battle going on there. you have the illegal immigration issue and compound it with the drug cartels. then a new phenomenon we are seeing now. this is within the last six months or so. we've seen 5200 unaccompanied young people, we're talking to 8 to 9-year-olds that are coming

from south america and we don't know all the details yet about how mexico is dealing with this. they are coming to the texas border and crossing the border. and taking them into refugee resettlement, vast majority we had 1400 of them in just in march that showed up with health problems, with chickenpox. the health side of this is disconcerting as anything, but they are coming in and almost 90% of them are being resettled here in the united states. the president of united states needs to deal with this. he needs to be talking to presidents of those countries to stop it. these are kids that are going on rail cards, riding on the top on rail cards through mexico.

sexual assaults that are occurring. all of this is great consternation for any of us. when they are dumped on our cities and counties and state is expected to pick up the costs. quick giving these individuals initiatives to come up and we resettled in united states. look at china, we have a dissident we're pushing back in the form of mr. check, then we've got open arms with this -- mr. chen because we're not sending a message, we're not going to allow you to come in. and we're not going to take them back to their country. >> greta: one is the financial burden on your state. there is humanitarian issues, they are living essentially in

custody, living in buildings these children are coming in. i saw a picture in the "wall street journal" today? >> these children have not been vaccinated for any diseases that are out there. they are bringing them in. in some cases we have known case of chickenpox. we had to quarantine the entire facility. >> greta: what are the numbers? >> that is one of problems, the federal government is giving us 24 hours. this is not our responsibility. yes, you've got helpful us deal with this. the issue goes back, we fought this fight with washington for a long time about their lack of securing the border. you hear them talk about, immigration numbers are down. we had 57% increase since 2008 of our drug seizures along that border. >> greta: the numbers i've seen,

more people are going south into but what is stunning to me is the number of children that are coming alone. when i saw the picture of them living on this cots. they don't have parents here. no is to take custody of these children? >> it's a huge problem. the federal government is dumping on our state. 80% of them coming into texas, it's not a big problem for arizona or california as it is for texas. >> greta: you have written a letter before? >> we'll keep asking. >> greta: you are quite a letter writer? >> this is standing up for the state of texas. they expect their governor to lead on these issues. the bottom line we have a federal government that is failing us when it comes to border security. failing us when it comes to dealing with those issues.

let's send a clear message and their leadership you have to deal with this. we can't be responsible for being the repository for your citizens that you send up here or allowing them to come. we've got to have our government send a clear message to the state department and other avenues to stop this. >> big win for the tea party, richard murdoch winning. is this a reflection the tea party is isolated to one particular state? >> i don't think so. my race for governor back in 2010, you had a substantial united states senator and that was a substantial victory against the washington status quo. i think that is what you see with lugar and murdoch. people are fed up with washington, d.c.. >> they are fed up with the spending and people telling us, it's just the status quo. we don't know how to make it

you are a former f.b.i. agent yourself? >> i have a hundred percent faith in the f.b.i. what the problem is, i think it's more with s where the public stands with eric holder. an independent counsel is what we need. f.b.i. would still be doing the investigation and i'm sure they are doing a good job. f.b.i. doesn't prosecute the case. they have to turn the evidence over to the prosecutor. we are asking for a special prosecutor, an independent counsel. >> greta: i would suspect if the f.b.i. is investigating but i suspect it wouldn't be the doj prosecuting it but a subset which would be career prosecutors in the southern district of new york where they have career prosecutors. is that something you still don't find acceptable? >> i think it's bigger than that. the problem is jon corzine is seen by most americans,

republicans and democrats as someone that has access all the way at the highest levels to the president. this past cycle from the beginning of january 2012 he is listed as one of the largest bunglers of the obama administration. i think it jeopardizes the way people feel in america with the confidence in our system as well as the integrity of our markets. that is the reason i'm calling for an independent counsel. if you look at the history, a lot of people feel he has been given special treatment since he started about mf global. >> i should note that jon corzine has raised $500,000 for the obama reelection campaign. it's a significant donor and fund-raiser for the campaign. i'm curious, where is in money. how did the money disappear and

nobody knows where it is? >> i think at this point, the money has been found, but keep in mind it doesn't mean it has been recovered. which is another reason we need an independent counsel because the way the entire bankruptcy was structured. that is a problem in and of itself because some of the money was taken as collateral and shipped overseas. now these poor customers that were never creditors, they were customers and their money was supposed to be protected in accounts. it was illegally taken out of those accounts and sent as collateral. now it's overseas and it was taken as collateral and could take years. we learned from bear stearns and lehman brothers, it could take four years or not more to fight with foreign banks to get that money back putting these customers at a massive disadvantage and untenable and unacceptable position that goes to the heart of the integrity of our markets. that is why independent counsel

is absolutely warranted. >> greta: you raise the question of money overseas. that was permitted a rule by cftc, the chairman worked at goldman sachs with senator corzine. it's an awful cozy group of people goldman sachs and this money. i guess to the extent we want to have the appearance of having no conflict, we could remove any chance of people being suspicious of an investigation. >> you are hitting the nail on the head. you look at the relationship between jon corzine and the chairman genzler and that is enough reason to make people suspicious. where is the downside for the attorney general, in light of the fact he handled fast and furious so terribly, in light of the solyndra, gsa scandal, he should be more than happy to

turn this over to independent counsel and give people the semblance there isn't any i am pro private might here. >> there isn't any impropriety here. >> greta: i agree. i do agree with everything being connected it really did does -- i can understand why people would be suspicious of having the justice department doing it. we'll see what happens. >> i have looked at the southern district. they are topnotch and best of the best. i'm worried about much higher than that. we're talking about the administration itself. >> greta: congressman, thank you. >> coming up vice president joe biden is talking trash about the bush administration. what major things had did he say are president bush's fault. you will hear exactly what he said.

they team the to be gearing up, saber rattling from time to time. vice president biden, mahmoud ahmadinejad will be gone in two years. where do we get this two years? how does israel know we have two years and why are we relying on that? this is dangerous situation for that region? >> there is no evidence of that. people are always hoping. in fact, when the obama administration had an opportunity to support people who were trying to overthrow this regime, we're trying to get greater openness and iran back in the summer of 2009, at that time the obama administration was so interested in reaching out to the ayatollah and iranian leadership they basically did nothing for the green revolution. they had an opportunity to make progress on that. i don't know what vice president biden thinks is going to happen in two years. we do know what happened in 2009. >> greta: i think many people

looking back the failure of president obama's was slow to say anything about the green revolution. it was slow to say anything. and longer he waited, the people on the streets had their backs against amd. but on the eve an election and saying don't worry he'll be gone in two years. that is my bet. i don't know how convincing it should be? >> i don't think anybody should be convinced by any of this. the administration feels vulnerability and one is iran and progress is not good. let's face it. when they came in just technical details, iran was running 4,000 centrifuges, four years later they are running 9,000 centrifuges. they feel vulnerable on israel

as well which accounts for vice president's other bizarre statements. >> greta: he said we were the problem. we have a problem going back to 1979 during the carter administration what happened in our embassy. any thought on we were the problem. do you have any sort of idea what he was trying to say? >> what he was trying to say but the words were not well chosen. it makes it sound like america is the problem and not iran. somehow the bush administration was so isolated internationally they were unable to accomplish anything with iran, any diplomatic support against iran. again that is just not true. as i'm sure the vice president knows. bush administration did just about as well as this administration in getting international support and getting resolutions. it's ironic. if you look at american approval ratings in the muslim world,

they are lower today than under the bush administration. the notion that the united states was completely isolated under bush and completely embraced by everybody is belied by the facts. >> greta: we went to the president's speech about two and a half years ago. there was much hope by many. from what you tell me, it didn't work at all? >> the recent polls show america's approval rating in egypt is about 20% which is lower than it was in the bush years. it's 10% in turkey which is lower than it was at the time of the iraq war. so whatever else is going on, it's not clear to me that the administration is really gained in terms of what obama set out in his goal in that speech which is improve relations with the muslim world. >> greta: thank you.

richard lugar, whether he lived in indiana or virginia. he has been in the senate for 36 years. an anti-out of touch, you are a washington guy and indiana guy. does it have any touch of that? >> sure, absolutely. his entire argument was that ligar had lost touch. residency thing was case in point. that was powerful. murdoch called that a turning points. it would be hard to argue with it. >> greta: mr. murdoch will be running against a congressman, the democrat in november. how do those go against each other? >> there haven't been many polls but it will be closer than lugar versus donnelly would have been. expected them to make a big fact that lugar took it to the supreme court to the chrysler bankruptcy proceedings. he was arguing on a group of

pension funds, donnelly expects to say that would have cost thousands of jobs in automotive industry in indiana. that is what he will start hitting him in the coming days, absolutely. >> what will murdoch will be hitting donnelly with? >> he is going to paint him with much the same brush as he did lugar. pointing to him that is willing to work across aisle where more strident ideology is necessary. donnelly is a democrat and voted for healthcare reform. that is something that murdoch will clearly make an issue of. he will be well founded. establishment, republican party in indiana is going to rally around him in the coming days. he is going to try to run the same kind of campaign that dan coates did in 2010.

we'll be watching. thank you. >> reporter: what does rush limbaugh have to say about lugar's battle. >> dick lugar, he a fine guy. he has been in the senate since 1977. he has been there a long time. time for establishment characteristics to settle in if they had to. he has been a moderate republican. i tell you, i hope that romney and his people are watching the indiana primary because they could learn a lot from it. all of the mainstream media coverage about the problems that lugar is encountering in his reelection, all the mainstream media coverage say that lugar is having problems because running a poor campaign. he sat on all his money instead of running ads early in the process. it never occurs to anybody in the news media that the

republicans in indiana might just want a more conservative senator. as far as the media is concerned there is no ideological factor in this primary. it's a matter of strategy. when the media favorite has problems, when the candidate and media wants to win and the media behind lugar, what does it tell you all? we know media doesn't like conservatives or like republicans, but they want lugar. when their favorite candidate is in any race is luitsz go, noted it's not about issues, it's never about ideas, it's always about losing candidate employing a stupid, dumb strategy which is what they are saying about lugar. he was too confident. he sat on his money for too
