that's by wall street journal, the parent company of this network. and jp morgan's chairman and ceo is speaking out. is jamie dimon says that jp morgan chase made a terrible mistake and almost no excuse for the the loss blamed on risky trading. we do know it cost the giant bank 10% of its stock value. hurting every 401(k) and investor who has money this that company and a lot of people do. they may not even know it's part of their nest egg. dimon in an interview saying he did not know the extent of the problems when he talked about concerns about the the bank's trading. and a so-called tempest in a teapot. >> i was wrong when i said that, and the reasonway came public we want to tell you, something wrong a mere four weeks ago and jp morgan the only bank in the u.s. to remain profitable, the latest development, raising some interesting questions. about whether financial regulators and lawmakers will now have full power to control

the banks. and if the relationship between washington and wall street is about to change. and peter doocy with the news in washington. >> the ceo of jp morgan said today that their 2 billion dollar bank gone bad will give regulators more ammunition to clamp down on banks and jamie dimon says everyone in business makes mistakes and just because it's sloppy and stupid, doesn't mean they're toast. >> this is not life threatening to jp morgan, a stupid thing we should never have done, but we're going to earn a lot of money this quarter and not as if they jeopardized. >> he supports 70% of dodd frank, put in place after the financial crisis, but this huge loss would not have been stopped by the voelker rule and in theory stopping banks from making money from their own profits and he says it's a hedge against potential loss, but democratic senator carl levin says he's going to close

earlier today. and she said last week's leak of an undercover operation that stopped a terror plot was very serious. it gives a tip-off to aqap to be more careful about who they use as their couriers, and as their bombers, so, the leak really did endanger sources and methods. and the leak, i think, has to be prosecuted. >> aqap, she says al-qaeda and the arabian pens. and we've learned that an investigation is being done. and feinstein saying she hopes criminal charges will go all the way to the justice department. that bomb plot, you may remember, was hatched by affiliate in yemen and in an effort to dismantle that group, a visit by the top white house official. deputy national security advisor, brennan promising to continue supporting yemen with military trainers and

financial aid. al-qaeda militants have a strong hold in remote parts of yemen and controlled shadow government in some tribal areas there. the potential for peace in afghanistan achfter a decade of war, one gun opening fire on a kabul street. killing a member of the peace council and the victim had key ties to the taliban and afghan government and was actively trying to bring both sides to the negotiating table and his death could have a big on international efforts. and what does it mean for the united states going forward? connell powell on the ground from afghanistan's capital city how. >> and the death is a real blow to the overall peace process here in afghanistan. and ramney was a former taliban minister when the taliban were in power in f afghanistan. he was a senator, he's a

member of a council and somebody who has president karzai's ear because of his longstanding relationship with the old regime and the taliban power base that is in pakistan. he knows, all of the former taliban leaders, who are now waging this war from pakistan. so, he's somebody who had credible with both sides. but, today he was gunned down outside his house here in central kabul. now, the taliban have actually denied responsibility for the attack. and, but in the past, they have said that members of the high peace council are legitimate council, and it's believed they killed another member of the high peace council last september. so suspicion remains and they were behind the attack. the bigger question, what will this do to the overall peace process. and ram manny was somebody who had credibility in terms of talks, but the overall high peace council wasn't particularly engaged in the overall peace talks.

so those talks have been stalled and didn't seem to be going anywhere, but his death does create an environment where there's little trust between the afghan government and the taliban and the international community. so that will have a dampenening effect on services going forward and the atmosphere that talks were meant to take place and his death will severely hamper the he overall efforts to find a peaceful negotiation here in afghanistan, harris. >> harris: with the latest, connor powell. thank you very much. a such underway right now in california for a missing fbi agent. investigators saying they have more than 100 people scouring the woods and canvassing this man's neighborhood for clues. and dangerous wildfires in arizona and crews are now working and it's growing minute by minute, we're told and expecting new video to come in in the any moment from the scene and the takeup this silicon valley. for the ceo of yahoo! is leaving. and after only four months,

>> a shake-up tonight in silicon valley. the internet giant yahoo! is leaving the company, and first to break the story, scott thompson has run the company since january, you may know he is under fire after revealing on his resume' claimed to have a bachelor's degree in computer science. and the company announced 2000 layoffs to cut costs and the head of local media will take over interim ceo and broke on sunday a couple of hours ago and fred am rowso will served as chairman of the board of directors. the super hero flick avengers smashing through the worldwide box office. it just became one of about a dozen movies in history to make one billion dollars.

and six-year-old michael has cerebral palsy. and the doctors said at one point he might never walk, but while his dad was away the determined little boy learned to stand and take a few steps with a cane and you saw it, eventually walk on his own. and the family is sharing the story on "fox & friends" and saying everyone was in on the homecoming surprise, keeping michael's progress a big secret until the big day. laura ingle is here now onset with me with more of this. i tear up when this see this. it's an amazing story. >> our news room has not had a dry eye all day and as far as keeping the secret it was a very tough secret to keep for his wife melissa, all of their son's hard work and determination to take those steps which was under wraps so when he came home, you saw it, watch it again. he could be welcomed with the gift of a lifetime. and this video has taken off online, viewed by millions of people, since last thursday. and after being picked up by the military homecoming blog,

welcome home.com. and that's how so many people got on to this. today the entire family stopped by fox news and said that michael taught himself to stand and walk over a four to five month period while his dad was walking overseas and she explained how to keep michael's progress a surprise. >> it was hard. and i had to make sure i didn't post videos on facebook of him walking or status updates or that kind of thing and tell family they couldn't post it either. >> the company had been told by doctors their son michael would never walk on his own after being diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age of one. limited mobility is all we could hope for, what we've been told by every doctor and physical therapist that worked with him and had to corral him everywhere he went and help him move from one place to another and now he can, he's walking and he's running and going where he wants to and

>> i'm harris falkner, time for the top of the news, three executives at jp morgan chase expect today leave their jobs this week according to a report with the wall street journal, the latest fallout in a trading blunder, that the ceo and jamie dimon called a terrible mistake, and president obama's counterterrorism advisor visiting yemen today meeting with the leader of that country and currently battling with al-qaeda insurgents, coming after washington says it foiled an airliner bomb plot through the yemen based affiliate the. and in afghanistan, a former taliban leader turned peace negotiator assassinated by unidentified gunman, it happened in the capital city before the security transition and the 70-year-old man was a key member of the high peace council, a group responsible for the group process.

new questions tonight. about building a new high sff speed rail, it would be the the first in the the nation, and it's planned for the west coast, primming to allow people in los angeles to buy pass heavy traffic, great for them. because they have a lot of it and shave off about two hours in travel time to las vegas. but it's going to take nearly 5 billion dollars of your taxpayer money to pay for it. so, the big question has to be, do you want that? ainsley earhart with more on the story. >> thanks, heather, i'm use today calling heather, working with heather. harris. >> harris: no worries. >> should we build this train, desert express the private company wants to be the first to bring high speed rail to the u.s. and 150 mile per hour train did cost taxpayers 5 billion dollars to build and some say it's the fail rail, the train from nowhere, so, i went out to california to investigate. >> our goal is to give 80% of americans access to high speed

rail. >> bringing high speed rail to the united states has long been a priority of the obama administration, but there's one problem, the closer you get to southern california's major population centers, the harder it is to build a train. >> it would be cost prohibitive to give the right of way to cut through the cities and be too expensive. so instead it will start outside of victorville, california and desert city of 120,000 people 90 miles from the hoped for starting point of los angeles or anaheim. and this is literally the end of the road. we're off the 15 in the middle of the mohave desert and the proposed site for the train. 90 miles that way and hit l.a. and 188 miles that way and you hit las vegas, the question is, would you drive from l.a., park your car here, hop on the the train to get there? >> i don't think the people of los angeles, which is where we're going to be drawing most of the riders, are going to buy, driving halfway to vafgs

it, we'll give you the 5 billion for the company as long as you pay it back and that's the question, will they be able to or are enough people going to ride that train to make that 5 billion dollars back for the federal government. >> it's coming to the people and subscribe to this. >> what are the chances of this coming. >> the chances are high, and the government has 35 billion dollars to spend and this is going to be 5 billion dollars, and they will probably get this money to build the train. and harry reid is behind this and a lot of republicans as well and casino owners are behind it, as well and want folks to come to vegas and saying that environmental tests have been done and the licenses are in, and all that needs to be done is that they need to get this loan and i think it's going to happen. >> senator harry reid of nevada, you mentioned there, and good to see you. >> good to see you, and i know your name, my friend, harris. >> harris: i know you do. bodies bagged and dumped on a highway near monteray, that's in northern mexico and investigators saying they believe the killings are the work of drug cartel. it's the latest in a string of grisly murders in the area and here is what they're afraid of it might be part of a trend. 18 people were found there decapitated in gauadalajara and 14 people found dismembered as well. nothing else to call this, but a massacre. we've been watching the situation in syria and ever since the cease-fire was declared there last month. the signs pointing that it's not working and consider this now, activists saying that government forces attack farming villages overnight and the details unreal. troops raining shells on a couple of rebel strong holds in central syria, killing civilians, 7 in one village, at least 27 in another, and they set house after house on fire, and in the past 14 months, rebels trying to oust the president there, and the u.n. estimating more than 9,000 people have been killed

by al-assad government. and what's going on in syria apparently now spilling over on to the streets of neighboring lebanon. our top stories as we go around the world in 80 seconds. lebanon, strikingly familiar scenes. and syria's deadly conflict sparks violence next door in the lebanese capital. syria, occupied lebanon for nearly 30 years in 2005, but maintains influence there, at least three people dead in the latest wave of bloodshed. russia, two children and two teachers killed when their bus flips over and lands in a field. and a dance group on board headed to an art festival when a much larger bus slammed into them from behind. 16 people in the hospital, some in grave condition. and turkey, a soccer game, a street fight breaking out between fans in a riot squad trying to contain them.

bets by big banks going bad. is this a warning sign of something bigger, or just a simple mistake? senior business correspondent and host of bulls and bears, brenda buttner with the story. >> harris, jamie dimon, ceo of jp morgan chase admits the company made a big blunder, here he is on nbc's meet the press. >> you know, we hurt ourselves and our credibility, yes, and we've got to fully expect to pay the price for that. >> but do we pay a price too. we did in 2008 when big mistakes by big banks nearly took down the financial system and the government bailed them out and taxpayers picked up the tab. a lot is difference, jp morgan still made a hefty profit despite the multi-billion dollar trading loss at of all its departments, the risk management unit and the bank says it was trying to he reduce risk by hedging and regulators may argue the opposite that these units are risky not only to the banks, but to the financial system.
