227,000 great residents and we believe that we have the obligation to do everything we can to keep our citizens safe. and so the city city is considering a resolution to suspend parts of the union contract so that we can balance our budget and do what ever other family does in the nation which is to live in our means. >> they expected a drop in revenues and that is the reason for the crisis. >> 42 percent drop in property tax revenues and sales tax . we have had one of the highest foreclosure rates in the nation and unemployment in our city is still at 13 percent. so we have been hit hardest of the anyone in the nation during the economic disaster. >> we have gone to our public employee unions and asked for their concession . they helped us out in the last

couple of yearings. for this year, they are digging thei heels in and i think there is a feeling of entitle they deserve pay increases . we asked them to stay where they are and just don't take a cost of the living raise and uniform allowance and do something to help our citizens out and to not force us to have to do layy offs. >> we have a president and police officer union. last four years. they have begin back every time city officials asked for concession. 20 million in this time frame. last period they gave back 3.65 million to keep police officers from being laid off for 18 mongs and then the city laid off 40 officers and this is coming from violating agreements. michael yarder who is

president of the association made that comment this month. what is your response to the statement? >> and we are still in an economic down turn and this is our fourth year. if you look in the private sector at what is going on in this nation and particularly in our state of the nevada, i am sorry to say that we are still asking for concession . i don't know anyone in the private sector who is getting a raise in the state of nevada and i don't know anyone who enjoying generous benefits and salaries and if they are so unhappy i invite them to look in the private sector for a job. and let me say something. we reported earlier that they had to let inmates out of the prisons and police officers are saying that they have concerns that safety is compromised on the street. are you concerned that if this
