after battle, democratic congresswoman debby wasserman schultz, and from the national republican committee, schultz is trying to divert attention away from the latest report. >> and president obama's policy in place for the last three and a half years, we've had 28 straight months of job growth in the private sector, 4.4 million jobs created, that the progress that we're making is moving us forward. >> wow, i don't know if she's on vacation in new hampshire or on mars, i can't figure it out, but the fact of the matter is, people are not better off today than they were three or four years ago. >> harris: yus just a reminder, only four more monthly reports on jobs left before the november elections, four more chances for president obama to try to prove the economy is on the rebound. steve centanni is live in washington with more reaction, and the issue is sticking around as we head into a new week, how is the obama administration defending itself in the wake of the dismal numbers? >> thing we're going in the

right direction, more jobs are added in the private sector, but acknowledging at the same time not enough jobs are created and we still have a long way to go. >> we saw on friday that our economy is growing and we're adding jobs. the president believes that-- >> not enough jobs. >> we're not growing fast enough and we're not adding enough jobs. >> and what's the argument, after four years, what is then the argument that. >> well. >> reelect me. >> we've made progress, but we've got a long way to go. >> and the president himself has acknowledged we need to grow the economy faster and put more people back to work, but as people always point out that 4.4 million jobs have been created in the past few years, and the white house says we need to continue the same policies to build a stronger economy, harris. >> harris: the conversation continuing today. what are republicans saying about the economy? >> all right, they he say the poor jobs numbers are proof, president obama's policies simply are not working and that we need a new leader in the white house. mitt romney of course, has tipped a laser light focus on

the economy as he campaigns across the country and he says we need lower taxes and less government regulations so that businesses can start hiring again. and his supporter is just the opportunity today to paint a stark picture of the current economy and explain how you think we got there. >> and this is the most tepid recovery, if it is a recovery from a deep recession in american history. and the economy is just sputtering along and the reason for that, in my judgment is because of what the administration chose to do. and spend, borrow, pass this new obamacare law, with the pent tax in it, and its mandate tax, all of this is slowing the economy down. >> and well, we have what appears to be a major challenge for the president and major opportunity for romney. >> steve centanni, thank you very much. the question, what does all of this mean for you? could there be a silver lining? here to drill down the numbers, senior business

correspondent and host of bulls and bears, brenda buttner. >> harris, we'd have to work a lot harder to find a jobs report much worse than this at this stage of the recovery, just 80 k jobs created. the unemployment rate at 8.2%, stubbornly glued there three he of the last four months and adding up to the weakest quarter of jobs growth since the labor marked picked up a bill in 2010. hiring, slowed almost every w, retailers cut, construction demolishing jobs and the engine of the recovery so far, manufacturing barely added 11,000 jobs, but the headline number of 8.2%, doesn't tell the whole story. if you add in discouraged workers and part-time workers who want to be full-time, the real rate is almost 15%. that's the same rate that african-americans face, about 14.4% of those looking for work can't find it. hispanics not far behind a 11%

rate among them and even as the private sector hires a bit, but hardly enough to even keep up with the entry of new workers looking for work, the government is cutting back, so, is business investment levelling off? and manufacturing is slowing, too, and can't look overseas for much help. china, india long emerging economies whose consumption helps give our country a boost, they're having problems of their own and that doesn't count the debt mess in europe which could derail much that's positive here, consumers hold the key, but as stocks slump and housing prices are falling, they're far from being able to spend. incomes are stagnant, too, and one thing that they're hopeful for, things look so bad. they might of boost the economy and one other bright spot, earnings season hits next week and usually surprises to the upside help give the bulls a little

news confirming with a senior u.s. official six n.a.t.o. members killed in eastern afghanistan were all american. their deaths on a particularly violent day. a total of 29 people were killed in roadside bombings and insurgent attacks today. >> governor mitt romney is packing up for a trip overseas ahead of the republican national convention and the presidential candidate will attend the opening ceremonies of the olympics on july 27th. and then he'll head to israel to meet with the prime minister. and russian president putin ordering an investigation into flood deaths in the southern part of his country. more than a foot of rain falling in less than 24 hours, triggering widespread flooding that killed more than 170 people yesterday. and putin wants to know if enough was done to warn those people who were living in the area. and speaking of weather, some slight relief from the major heatwave that's gripped much of the united states for more than a week and while it's cooler, it's hot out there for

some people, and millions of people enduring triple digit temperatures and in some areas for ten straight days and the consequences deadly in some cases and we're learning about this in indiana, a four month old girl died after police say she was left in a hot car, we don't know how long. police only say it was for an extended period of time. and the baby's grandfather found her, rushed her to the hospital and it was too late and her father held behind bars on charges of neglect resultening death. >> in the same state, 15 miles away, police smashed the window of a locked s.u.v. to rescue a toddler inside. say her mom left her there to go shopping and the temperature inside was 124 degrees, and the child is now in stable condition. her mother charged with neglect. >> i don't understand why a mother would do this. it doesn't appear that she was thinking clearly, and so, we don't know if she even recognized that the child was even in the car.

of the year and today you've made it to almost 100 with a high of 99 and headed to monday and tuesday and tabling a look at the temperatures and 86 monday, and 88 on tuesday and basically across a large section of the country, ohio and across illinois and also new york city, you're going to be making it into the lower 80's as we head into tuesday and also into your wednesday, so again, a bit of relief coming up because the cold front southward. ahead of it, we have humidity when you factor in with the hot temperatures it feels very hot and heat over 100 in missouri and of course the heat advisory over there and southern portions of illinois, north carolina, south carolina, and also virginia, still enduring some of the hot temperatures and you're again looking at the key advisories in place, and the heat index values well over 100 degrees. and the cold front is going to push southward and they'll

feel it across the great lakes, and upper portions of new york, and also across portions of the midwest, ahead of it though, still hot and humid and we're going be to be seeing strong showers and storms and some could produce severe weather across states like virginia and kentucky and further across the west, across southern parts of missouri and daming wind gusts and large hail being the primary concerns and already seeing strong showers and storms fired up right now and a number of severe thunderstorms and conditions are favorable to pop up and see them across the northern parts of kentucky and also into parts of west virginia and both of these are in effect until 10 p.m. eastern time, and so we will keep you posted as some of the warnings continue to come out. something else good news that this fronts is going to be bringing though aside from the relief from the heatwave is much needed rain in areas and still in a drought and one of those is eastern parts of texas and you can get over four inches of rain here and good news for you and across kentucky and north carolina
