>> coming from banks or government or just from the private sector? >> they will have the government pay you faster if you are a small business. there is a lot of logistics in there. will it really do it in 15 days as they claim? i don't think so. any day i get cash on this side is a good thing. >> do you happen to know off handily -- i don't mean to throw you off the bus. how long were they waiting? 60, 90 days? freelance work sometimes takes that long. >> on average if you have 30 day receivable you are not going to get that from 45 to 60 day thes if i get paid in 30 i want to feel good about that. >> one is yes. this helps small businesses. increasing the maximum small business administration loan from 250,000 to 350,000. that seems like that would be a good thing. >> no. completely mismissed the point here. absolutely not.

not that business owners are looking to get more money. we are actually looking not to get more money. the problem is not raising the limit. the problem is i have to secure my assets. 60% of that loan. so now what happens is they are asking for personal guarantees. they are asking for 60% of the loan. give me a bigger loan which means i have got to secure even more? i don't have that kind of capital to secure it and the second thing is the documentation in order to get the loan is where our problem is getting the loan is the problem. not increasing the gloon which brings us to the third one here. third and final. streamlining applications for the small businesses loan administration. streamlining this process seems like it would be a good thing for businesses? yes? no? that. >> would be great if it was. i can find no indication of the word streamline in our world. absolutely not. the reality is what would really help not making less paperwork. why would you not give me a dedicated representative that works specifically with small business. now i move up the pack faster.

of the environment. joining us is the president elect of the pork producer's council. what's going on here. >> good morning. glad to be here. the humane society of the united states is alleging that pork producers have failed to file paperwork on the reporting role. let's start and really at the beginning. humane society of the united states is an animal rights, animal activist group that falsely raises funds by appealing to the emotions of pet owners in the united states. they don't use that money to improve the life of those dogs and cats. in fact, they spend less than 1% of the money that they raise, the millions of dollars that they raise on those animals. and yet they are funding attorneys to file malicious and false paperwork violations against pork producers. >> here is the paperwork from the humane society we will read you. these pig confinement operations are a menace to the environment, to the community,

and to the animals virtually immobilized in tiny gestation crates for nearly their entire lives. environ. >> mental degradation is just as sorted as the record on the systemic treatment of animals. that's a harsh indictment of your if i have. what do you respond to that? >> let's go back to what the truth is. really this is what i'm going to tell you about the environmental record of american pig farmers. we took $6 million of producer money, not pet owner money. not who he main society money, not government money, pork producer money. we funded a two year study over multiple states, multiple facilities to actually provide the regulating authority, which is e.p.a. with factual data. we voluntarily turn that data over to e.p.a. we are not hiding anything. we have actually cooperated with the environmental protection agency to deal with

reading and math and other subjects engaging kids may be falling by the wayside. not true in every school but some schools. >> what about the reports we hear kids are burdened with hours and hours of homework every night. >> up town problem. no doubt that is learnly true for some rarefied subsouthwest kids. i used to teach in the south bronx for several years. my kids were not going home with 70 pounds of book and five hours of homework. >> south bronx is probably one of the poorest school districts in the country. >> sure, that's true. never school there is going to be range. we tend to hear in the media about those scare stories about kids doing six or eight hours oht who are wildly overscheduled. that really is the exception not the rule. >> in other words, in order to let other kids pass in some of these no child left behind programs, they have had to dumb down. so curriculum. >> i call it unintended consequence. i'm not one of those who think it's happening on purpose. or that teachers are out to

get kids and make their lives easier. that's not true. have you range kids in any given school. put yourself in the teacher's position. if i have some subset of my kids who are already where i need them to be, reading on grade level doing math on grade level what incentive do i have to spend time focusing on those kids and challenging them? you really are almost incentivized to focus on lower level kids. >> what's the solution. >> there are new standards coming down. almost every state in the country will have the same set of english and math standards and more to the point every state will have the same test. one or two tests. we will be able to compare and say if new york kids are ripping the cover of 00 ball and florida kids are not, then maybe we can look at that and figure out what is it that new york is doing and florida isn't and learn from that? having said that it's complicated. there is a lot of different factors that go into success in school. >> randy from core knowledge foundation thanks so much for coming in. >> my pleasure, thanks. >> president obama asked about

independents, those folks in the middle? >> that's one of the common misnomers in the campaign. if you look at the polling over the last couple weeks as the campaign has solidified. the numbers really haven't changed a heck of a lot. vast vorlt majority of americans. we have had three elections now where the electorate is pretty polarized and made up their minds. this election is laundry roomily going to come down to turnout he is essential especially the key battleground state. trying to change your position, to try to switch up 1% to 2% of the moderates and energize and make sure you get strategy by your base. the winning strategy is getting your base out. >> you keep talking about energizing and timing has a lot to do with that. if mitt romney unveils the v.p. pick just ahead of or right at the republic convention. you suggest he needs someone that will really surprise folks. why does the timing tell us a lot about who he will pick? >> well, i think the problem

move in this economy. a senior reporter with human events has written some interesting pieces. over the past couple of weeks and we wanted to have him talk about some of this stuff. when you hear the president make that argument, first of all, is it resonating with voters and does it make sense to say the blame needs to be put on the wealthy? >> well, no. i think it's populace jibber irish to say that the wealthy have done something wrong or illegal to undermine the economy. does it make sense politically, it might with certain people. when we struggle we are looking for someone to blame and a lot of people want to blame the wealthy. as far as economics go there is really no blame to be put there. maybe in singular cases but not overall. >> you make the case in your article about the cost of all of this. you keep getting frustrated because you keep hearing about well we can't afford to continue these tax cuts because how are we going to pay for these tax cuts? we want to continue these tax cuts for the middle class but we can't continue to fax cuts for the wealthy. they just cost too much. your frustration? >> right. tax cuts don't cost government anything. spending costs government

something. these tax cuts he is talking about are a decade old. so it doesn't cost us anything. what costs us something is all the spending we're doing. i think sort of a sense of entitlement as if the president or the government has some sort of claim to all our money. it doesn't work that way. that's not the baseline. we have to cut spending first. he has no interest in doing that. >> david you know and bottom line is neither party has cut spending in 50 years both republicans and democrats spend like drunken sailors. the argument we need to cut spending is, that ever going to happen? doesn't seem like it some days. we need to reform entitle entitlements. simple our tax code. i'm not saying things are perfect. i'm saying as campaign rhetoric which is all this is essentially to blame the rich and to we are talking about 80 bddle a lot of money a year.

people making it the largest, the second largest entitlement program. so what's behind this disturbing trend? joining me now is author and star parker. good to see you. >> great to see you, dave. >> few more people on food stamps. the economy has not yet recovered. we are still trying to put out of this recession. nuclear is staggering. cost of food stamp program before president obama, look at the numbers. now they did increase under president bush as you can see. nowhere near as much as they have in the last three years. you are looking at 22 billion-dollar increase since 2009. the entire 8 years of president bush increased some 18 billion. why is it so dramatically increasing today? >> one of the reasons is because when nancy pelosi had the gavel they rebranded food stamps. they changed it into a snap program and they gave them little debit cards. so we started taking away the shame out of being on welfare. it's no longer welfare

program. another thing that happened is they started changing the rules when it comes to who grows food and how much. when you think about some of the environmental policies out of the e.p.a. it hinders our farmers from being able to produce food. so the prices are going up. there are a couple of things other than the economy that are driving this new food stamp phenomena. >> nancy pelosi even has talked about as a job creator in the past which some weren't exactly thrilled with. and now they may be making it each easier. the obama administration and we're just getting to understand this, appeared to open the door for states do away with the requirement that you look for work in order to get welfare. what should the government be doing? should they be discouraging it rather than encouraging food starps? >> they should be discouraging. remember, in the mid 90's when we changed welfare policy i actually consulted on federal welfare reform during that time and bill clinton signed it into law. we were removing our government -- country from

government dependency. we are moving them toward. they believe it's an engine for the economy. that's what's at stake what kind of a nation are we going to be? government-tend dent or free people who determine through the free market what kind of employment opportunities are available for the next generation? >> this goes all the way up to the top. this isn't just circumstances of the downturn? >> oh, absolutely not. this is world view. this this is policy. what's happened is many americans normally who would never go anywhere near welfare are just throwing in the towel. they work all their life. they see what's going on. they are excessively taxed and they are saying forget it you know what? i'm going to have a good time right now i'm going to buy a steak dinner and pass the bill to the guy behind me. >> advertising program encouraging people to go on it. ask you quickly about the naacp speech that mitt romney gave this past week. a lot of attention given to the fact that he was booed after mentioning he would repeal obama care. how do you feel about how that was covered and the fact that mitt romney didn't go there,

do not condone drunk driving. our goal is to improve the accuracy in roadside breath testing. our billboard reminds people to drink responsibly. sometimes people get false positives from alcohol residue in their mouth and this helps that. >> sure. residual mouth alcohol can effect a breath test. the problem is with the field sobriety protocols, you are going to have horizontal gaze test first. you are going to have some divided attention tests after that that's the -- you know, walk in a line. turn around and come back. stand on one leg. and if you fail those three tests, then the arresting officer will give you that breathalyzer test. well, nhtsa will tell us that residual mouth alcohol will last up to 20 minutes. by the time have you been pulled over they are vun your license and given you three physical tests. that residual mouth alcohol is gone. that makes this product completely unnecessary.

besides the fact that. >> just one second. larry, your law firm specializes in helping people who have been accused of dwi. do you find there are often these false positives? is that a big problem? >> well, any breath test manufacturer would tell you that mouth alcohol has always been a problem with breath testing. and police officers are trained not to rely solely on the breath test in the field. that's why at the station the breath tests are designed to be a litigation bit more accurate and there still always have been problems with mouth alcohol it did lead to higher than somebody's true alcohol level. may show higher alcohol than somebody's body. if you are foolish to believe this product is going to get you out of a dui you probably deserve to be cited with a du glimplet give people false confidence to get behind the wheel. >> sure. it's going to give them, you know, you are sitting there at the bar and having a drink and look down at the end of the bar and here is this product. you are going to say hey, this says can i beat the dui.

and purpose and on michelle, especially during tough times. >> all right. well, look, i think there is a case to be made. alisyn probably did it well earlier that he didn't sell his policies well enough. but you can make that argument when you are basing your re-election on character attacks on mitt romney. >> well, first of all, i think this is a classic example of one of the greatest maybe displays of utter arrogance i have ever heard as if he got the policy right. frankly he got the policy all wrong. obama care is going to cost three times what we thought. his signature piece of legislation. had to fight it in court. barely got it past only because they called it a tax. he has promised transparency. we haven't received it. he calls executive privilege to cover up documents in fast and furious. we could go all the way through the policies. his economic policies have been disastrous. this idea that well he hadn't told the story right. no, that's not the problem. it's not that he hasn't sold and marketed his program. it's that nobody wants to buy it. >> not just that. listen to the second part of

actually lost the dog to begin with. >> when chase had gone missing it was an early sunday afternoon. i was out on a job where he couldn't actually come with me or normally he would have been with me. and he was basically led out to use the bathroom and hopped the fence and disappeared. i instantly put up ads on craig's list. fliers around the neighborhood. walked around for miles looking for him to not find him at all. >> you didn't give up hope. and then apparently he got a new owner are apparently temporarily. someone took in chase and started to take care of him. how did you discover that he had been taken in and cared for? you lost he might have been lost or killed. >> i figured up he was stolen or ended up dead after all of this. i was at a local drive-thru coffee shop. this lady pulled up right behind me with chis right in the back of her car. pulled up behind me in the drive-thru.

the next topic, as we all recall, bill clinton reformed, he changed welfare. when he was president, he changed the welfare requirements that actually required recipients to find work or to be working or to look for work. barack obama now wants to apparently make some changes to what bill clinton had changed. what does, how does president obama want to change welfare now? >> yeah, well, let's just go back to 1996. of course, the clinton democrats now claim an enormous amount of credit for those welfare reform measures and they were made under great amount of pressure from fiscal conservatives and the g.o.p. resolution at the time. okay. fine, great. bipartisanship, health, reform much needed that system. fast forward to the obama administration where under very stealthy circumstances they've passed more wavers.

>> well, after all the uproar over team usa's uniforms being made in china, ralph loren is changing his tunes. 2014 winter games will be made here in america, but our next guest says there's time to make this year's uniforms here in the u.s. david peck a however based manufacturer who makes his fashion line and clothing in the good old usa. >> good morning, how are you. >> alisyn: we're doing well. did these team usa outfits have to be made in china? >> no, not at all. >> alisyn: why not? >> it's definitely -- it's that we have a capacity here in america to make them. i know there's always issues in terms of costing, trying to get a better price and i completely understand that, but we have the capeabilities

to produce them here in the u.s. >> alisyn: in order to price down. i mean, you raised this point and i want to see what the price differential would be. did ralph loren in order to keep costs down have to go to china? is there any way for us here in the u.s. to do what you do and manufacture nice clothing and make them inexpensive? >> i think we can definitely do that. i mean, we do have higher costs in the u.s. in general, but we can produce really high quality, and i think that's something that americans have sort of let lapse is that we don't look for the same quality in our clothes, and so, we go more for price and value rather than longevity. >> to produce those berets that you see that ralph loren has produced and the jackets, maybe we could put up a picture right now, the outfit that they have produced, how much would it cost, cost roughly? >> well, it depends on where you're manufacturing them.

if you're manufacturing them in new york city it might be more expensive. if you go to somewhere regional like where we are based in houston, you can definitely drive down the costs. you know, all of those depend on different factors, it's the type of material, it's the labor that goes into it. about you you can definitely work with a manufacturer in order to get a price that works for your budget. >> alisyn: let me tell you the statement, let me read it to you. about all of this hullabaloo. ralph loren plans to leave the conversation within our industry and government to address the issue to increase manufacturing in the united states. we have committed to producing and opening-- at the opening and closing ceremony team usa uniforms in the united states, it will be worn for the 2014 olympic games, they say they can't do it now in next two weeks. but for 2014. can your company produce the uniforms needed for the olympics in the next two

weeks? >> i mean, that's a difficult question, i don't know the quantities that they're talking about, but i'm sure that my company and a number of other companies throughout the u.s. who specialize, especially in men's tailoring would be able to do it. it may be a little bit too late at this point for the olympic team to have completely new uniforms made and it's probably just a little bit of a waste. i think what we should focus on now, actually is the opportunity to talk about the method of manufacturing and the opportunities that week create here in america and i think it's admirable of ralph loren to think about this going forward and have committed already to doing the 2014 games here in america. >> alisyn: and you're right. it is good to have this conversation about this, how little is produced in the united states and how we can change that. so, david peck, if your phone rings and it's the ralph loren people, i hope you'll give it a shot and produce the uniforms here, but thank you

headlines for us. >> alisyn: sort of. i have something like that, information, now the supreme court ruled in favor of president obama's health care laws, governors from several states are focusing on medicaid expansion and may do more harm than good. peter doocy has more from the meeting in virginia. >> reporter: a virginia town that shows what life was like in colonial times before medicaid. before it was dominating discussions among more than two dozen governors at this weekend's national governor's association meeting here with some saying expanding medicaid in their states might do more harm than good so they might opt out. >> the supreme court has now given us an option. i want to make sure we cover people and have a decent safety net, but not doing it unless you give us vast reforms and implements in our state and guarantee you're going to pay for it.

>> rick: and yesterday was the first time that you got into the scuba tank? >> yeah, yesterday is the first time i got into the scuba tank and i want to become a certified scuba diver and some day a master and teach the younger guys. >> that was a quick indoctrination of this. we are going to show you some video while we talk to jason-- jeff, adam. and we met about six years ago and raced in the snow skiing event at a wounded warriors event. >> and i was trying to cheat. and do a lesser, knock him over if i can't get him. >> and you beat me. >> it was close. tell me how has the last six years been. you were injured in 2004 and we met probably 2006, another, five, six years passed. >> the leg hasn't grown back yet. but, it's been great. moved on as most veterans do, you get injured, you accept it, move on and go about your life because that's all it is, you keep moving forward.

>> rick: you guys are here as some people who were injured a lot longer ago and a lot of people coming back still toad with more recent injuries. what do you guys do to help the younger guys? >> we know what it looks like, and we were injured in '04 and we had vietnam era veterans helping us out and now we kind of do the same thing, pay it forward and help the new generation and most of the guys and women are from the hospital. >> rick: chris white, tell me about this, you were injured in 2004 and this is still going on. >> they had to relengthen my leg, two inches shorter and they had to break it in three places and stretch it out so to say and add a bone graft to my femur and put it down there and here we are, so-- >> gives an idea, the injuries think it's quick and short-term, but here we are eight yooers later and still facing these challenges and it's these kind of things that

pennies in those paper rolls, it was dreadfully dull and i said i have to have a job that's fascinating and i always wanted to be a lawyer because i knew i'd always be in trouble and i'd never afford a lawyer. >> i was washes dishes, friday, night, saturday, sunday. >> taught me what hard work is and every other job in the restaurant business and moved on to the construction business and somehow i thought, let me try this radio and tv thing. >> my first job at 16 was working at carville ice cream stand out on old country road in wesbury, long island and it taught me to show up on time. and minimum wage, but all the hot fudge sundaes i wanted. good job, i wish i still had it. >> alisyn: i can relate i worked at friendly's, the unlimited ice cream is a good thing for a first job. >> what struck me we went to the welfare office and asked people why don't you take all

of these jobs here here that are offered and we'd gone around and found all of these jobs, no experience necessary available. oh, i can't do that, that's beneath me, i'm a trained medical technician and it's the first jobs they don't pay well, but you do move up, and the laws today discourage that in that the minimum wage says dent hire a kid because you might as well-- you have to pay minimum wage, hire somebody with experience and the obama labor department has issued a warning to employers, if you have unpaid internships which built my career. >> alisyn: mine too. >> dave: mine too. >> clayton: mine too. >> it's only legal if the intern impedes the work. >> alisyn: what does that mean. >> you can't get a benefit from the intern and not pay them. >> clayton: the intern has to be bad? >> i've had interns like that and we parted company.
