5:35 am
have been involved in the political scene for a long time have ever witnessed. >> steve: sure. >> dara: you know, should obama condemn it? >> you know, i think that's up to the campaign. it's pretty clear at this point, again, that they took this time line, all out of context and jumbled it together in an ad in which joe soptic seems to indicate that mitt romney is somehow responsible for his wife's terrible tragic passing and whether or not the white house wants to just stay in the shadows and say, no, we didn't have anything to do with this ad, or this is a super pac. even after it's been proven that back in may, they had mr. soptic on a conference call talk being the same thing. that is up to them. but i think there was a lot of pressure that is building on the white house now to come out and at least say something about this ad. >> dara: unfortunately, too, everyone thinks what they see on tv is true. >> you see, that's the thing with these negative ads.
5:36 am
any campaign person, any person who is involved in making ads will tell you that true or not, these things work. so even though this ad has been proven by so many fact checkers, including the factcheck.org as false, for some people, this will reinforce the narrative about mitt romney that he's a cold and uncaring finance wizard who is just simply interested in making money. that's the thing that mitt romney is having a real tough time countering. he doesn't have much longer to do it. when you look at the results of the latest poll, you've been looking at all morning, if you want to become president, your numbers can't be going in that direction inside of 100 days. he's got to hope for some big move during the convention. >> brian: you got to think with all this money flowing in, the vp to be named examine three debates straight ahead that his strategy is coming forward. but if there is a degree of panic, it shows you maybe it is

5:38 am
john, i'm sure you're going to be talking as well with john mccain about the decision mitt romney has got to make and that is -- you were talking about how if he's going to turn his trend around, he has to do something big between now and the election. perhaps this is the vice president thing. and a lot of people on the right are suddenly saying, paul ryan. he would be a game changer. >> there are a lot of conservatives, at least inside the beltway are saying he's the guy you got to pick if you want to make a big move. you got to make us believe in you and that paul ryan would be a great choice. in the same breath, paul ryan would give the obama campaign and all of the organizations that are lined up behind him some pretty good ammunition to go at golf knee with as well because of the ryan budget and his lifetime in washington. >> steve: grandma off cliff ad. >> it's not over for mitt romney. in 1992, bill clinton got a 16-point bounce out of his convention. so if you put something together
