around 10:00 p.m. she will make her debut to tens of millions of americans on opening night. yesterday, she sat down with chris wallace. >> i wish everyone could see him how i see him. as a mother, i have seen him have compassion, as he has been with me as a wife, raising the small children. how he valued my work as being more important than his. >> eric: dana, what do you think? what should he is do and staying away from? >> dana: a lot of anticipation. she was originally going to speech monday the networks wouldn't take it. it changed because of the hurricane and scheduling. now she will be on prime time tomorrow. everyone will take the speech. a long line of wonderful tradition in america's first ladies. in fact, at the national history museum, there is a whole exhibit dedicated to them. and the policies they worked on, the dresses they wore and dinners they threw and how they represented their husbands. how they are with one another. is greg making fun of me? >> eric: yes. >> dana: why?

>> greg: i was just thinking a museum of first ladies. can you imagine the husbands that are dragged to that? instead of going to a game. going to the museum of first ladies. >> eric: maybe they go to the game -- >> dana: can i say one last thing? this speech tomorrow night is important for a couple of reasons. people finally start to focus and get to know him better, they manual what would she be like -- imagine what would she be like in the white house can i imagine her being in the white house and being supportive of a commander-in-chief? that is why the speech is important. possibly the biggest speech of her life. >> eric: kimberly, my lovely wife says behind every good man there is a great woman. great woman behind a good man? >> kimberly: fantastic. she is romney's strongest asset. she can connect with people, personal. she raised a beautiful family. good values. what is not to like? she has an incredible personal story. one of perseverance and faith. she has taught a lesson about what it means to be a good mother and good wife. i'm looking forward to great

things in her speech. >> eric: hold that thought, beckel. greg, what do you think? >> greg: she is a nice lady. that is the point of a woman coming to speak. she can't say anything critical about her. no matter how nice she is, she is going to be mocked by the left. because her values that she represents they find stupid. tradition, fidelity, these are things that the republicans stand for that democrats kind quaint. she and her husband represent the values that young liberals laugh at. they will laugh at her. >> eric: beckel, you progressives have to be shaking in your boots. good, solid, potential first lady. >> bob: my wife said behind me there were many women. that's one of the reasons we got divorced. look at it from analyst standpoint. she has two things to do tomorrow. dana is right. pass a threshold of would she be a good first lady.

with this stuff? is it in a book? >> eric: we have more material. we listen to sound bite of another guy -- we are taking you chronologically. ann romney starts off and chris christie is next as the high profile speakers. take a listen. >> let me tell you. you don't know what will happen when i burst out of the gate at 10:30 tuesday night. keep me on a treadmill all day, try to wear me out and lower the energy level a bit. we'll be ready for tuesday night and put on a great show for the american people. >> eric: hey, kimbo, shake and bake. christie brings fire and passion. what do you think? >> kimberly: he does. looking forward to tomorrow evening. 10:30, explosion of excite in the the hall. he will bring it. romney needs chris christie to motivate the base, motivate the tea party people and the conservatives to say this is our guy. that is what they'll do. >> eric: my round mound of sound to screen left, you have to worry about this guy.

>> bob: not at all. i'll tell you why. first, it's not the tea party he represents. a lot of this agree with the tea party. more than that, is he a good surrogate? can he go after obama well? yes. christie is a guy to make mistakes. when you get would up, the tea party, calm him -- wound up he could make a mistake. i wouldn't surprised if he didn't. >> dana: he will bring the crowd to their feet. they have been pent up and wait for the moment, fear of delegate in the republican national community. ready to rock tomorrow night. ann's speech is important but this brings them to their feet. not just because he delivers a good line. he will talk about how good policy and effective governing and working across the aisle, the teacher tenure piece he finished a few weeks ago that republican governors lead the way when it comes to better government. that is what he will talk about.

>> bob: chris christie just barely made it. 50% favorable in his home state. >> dana: obama has been under 50% since he started. >> bob: i grant you that. i have bruises to prove it. that is not the point. >> eric: liberal home state of new jersey. >> bob: really? your home state. >> eric: it isn't surprising. greg? >> greg: chris christie is the guided missile for the convention. capable of delivering the memorable blow. with paul ryan he is the -- [ inaudible ] don't you know your history? >> eric: let's move on, next up on the list. senator marco rubio. take a listen to this. >> this man is a personal role mod to men like me. as a father and husband. look how successful his family has been. anywhere he has gone in the church or community he has made it better using his talent and his time. mitt romney is a role model for people like me.

as a person, especially. the kind of person we'd all be proud for our kids to grow up and be like. >> eric: bob, senator rubio, home state here. i think this will be a pretty exciting speech. >> bob: yeah, but the announcer stuff is wrong. they think it's helpful for hispanic. he won't move hispanic votes around the country. country. they are locked in for obama. but he can move votes in florida. without florida, romney can't win. what rubio stands and represents is a state that is critical. it comes down here. hispanics, no way he moves the hispanic. >> kimberly: i'm sure he will move one or two, bob. c'mon. >> bob: maybe you. >> kimberly: that already happened. i like him very much when he came to the show. he is fantastic. a rising star in the republican party. excellent surrogate for romney to motivate the base. this is great for him personally to fortify his future. get more time in. in terms of government. >> bob: you don't think he is thinking about that, do you? >> kimberly: smart move. >> eric: high profile, good

>> greg: that is the point. he is hispanic, latino, but an american first. that is the point to make. the democrats hate hearing that point. they like to put your identity before patriotism. >> bob: ridiculous. that is absolutely ridiculous. >> eric: we better get out of here. meteorologist janice dean is tracking tropical storm isaac. >> the latest advisory came in at 5:00 p.m. and we're on the verge of a hurricane. 75 miles per hour sustained winds. 74 miles per hour is a hurricane. we anticipate hurricane in 12 to 24 hours. this is a large storm so that is one reason is it taking so long to get its act together. this is the latest imagery. 3d satellite imagery. the last few frames you can see the eye trying to form. the center is there. 200 miles away the tropical storm winds. the effect will be felt along the gulf coast. you can see the radar.

we have strong bands. moving across the east coast of florida. up toward the southeast. the rain bands and the wind spanning 500 miles away from the center of the storm. extraordinarily large. it will affect a lot of real estate. this is the latest track at 5:00 p.m. there is a good chance that the 8:00 track will have it at a hurricane. we are anticipating strengthening in the next 12 to 24 hours. one thing to add they upgraded this storm. they think it's going to become a category two right before it makes landfall west of the new orleans area. that is the worst place you can be for a hurricane. because they're going to get the right-hand side of the rain. and the wind. it will pound the area for hours. we could see a storm system, hurricane for 24 hours in this region. pounding, pounding, pounding. so that is the one take-away here. it won't be katrina. but it will add flooding and surge and wind for hours

>> dana: welcome back to "the five." we are here in tampa, florida, where the rnc is having the convention. we talked about three of the main speakers coming up, but we didn't start with the main event. start with paul ryan in the hometown of gainesville, wisconsin, today and had this to say. >> we are not going to try to transform the country to something it was never intended to be. we won't try to replace the founding principles. we'll reapply the founding principles. that is what we're going to do to get the country back on the right track. that is how we preserve the american legacy. >> dana: does it sound like a good principle? like giving a preview of wednesday night speech? >> greg: i think so. the cool kid in the republican camp. he is out there, while he has substance that republicans are no longer just a bunch of old, white guys. they're young, they have

people like him. >> bob: young white guys. >> greg: there you go. but he also has to hit on the message, we aren't santa claus. it's hard to run against santa claus. which is what you do with the democrats. obama is santa claus. but we are reality. they have to show that what santa promise comes satan consequences, ie, greece. that is what he has to do. >> dana: follow that? good. i thought it was a good point. bob, can i ask you something? a lot of people might think this is ryan going on to talk about himself. because he just announced three weeks ago. this is his first big national speech. his job is really to make the case for why mitt romney should be president. do you think, from your experience, is that what you think his role is? >> bob: it will be. none of the speeches are off the top of their head. they're scripted and passed by the romney campaign. like every presidential campaign does that, right? >> dana: sure. >> bob: but one thing about the weather. it was pouring here before we

what we're supposed to be doing here. >> dana: are you going to watch ryan's speech? >> kimberly: absolutely am. i'm looking forward to the comments. one of the most knowledgeable people in the house or senate. hard to beat in terms of the economy. his knowledge about the healthcare, medicare, all of the above. i like ideas for the limited government. an excellent choice by romney. he is definitely energized the base. people will be excited to hear him speak. >> eric: can i make a couple of points? i think what you will hear from him. republicans who had been losing the medicare debate, healthcare debate are now winning the healthcare debate. i'm guessing that paul ryan will stay on topic and nail it home. kind of, to use an old phrase, put your foot on the head and put it out of his misery, win it. number two, talk about the debt clock spinning behind them. if i were the rnc, i'd say make sure ever time the billion dollars transfers over, i'd have another gong. ominous bell ring every time. >> bob: everything you said about medicare and paul ryan we will talk about it tomorrow.

unique and exceptional. we have everything we need to lead the world in prosperity and peace. >> dana: i remember press secretary. every speech the president was going to give was the biggest speech of his life. it didn't matter topic but that is how they built it up. this is a big speech. >> greg: this is make-or-break moment. this is the biggest moment for mormons since donnie and marie reunion. he has to show he is listening to the little people and be tough enough for the job. builts down to a national breakup. mitt is like your best friend leveling with you, telling you that the guy you have been dating is not good for you. it was good for a while. but it's bad and time to move on. identify with the american people. >> bob: i suspect he will give a very good speech. they usually do. but one thing he does need to do an you are right, this is where ann romney will help, if the connection, the connection between middle america and romney given his personal

background. if he crosses the threshold -- one thing he has going for him that few challengers have, he is safe. in other words, he is passed out already. now can he get people to identify with him? that is the issue. >> dana: kimberly, what do you think? >> kimberly: i want him to move people. he has a unique opportunity to connect. people feel they don't know romney. i would like him to move numbers in terms of the favorability. he should be doing better an i hope it produces results he needs to get ahead a little bit. >> bob: he will get a butch out of this. >> eric: conservatives know it's time to fire obama. but do they know it's time to hire romney? romney needs to point out that we have seen this movie before. we watched it for four years and seen unemployment and you didn't build it. try something new. get a different movie. romney is the new movie and more interesting than the last four years. he has to point out difference between mitt romney and four more years.

"special report" is at 6:00. now back to "the five." >> kimberly: i'm kimberly guilfoyle. this is an extreme weather alert. tropical storm isaac is turning across the gulf of mexico and could make landfall as a category one hurricane as early as tomorrow. on a path now headed straight for new orleans. janice dean the weather machine tracking from new york city. hi, janice. >> hi, kimberly. of the latest advisory, we think this storm could intensify to a category two storm before it makes landfall right on top of or just west of new orleans.

there is the storm. you can see the eye trying to form. we bumped up the winds to 74 miles per hour. we think it has probability of becoming a hurricane in six to 12 hours. showing you the track. going further in time. this storm slowed down and will be ongoing event for many hours across the new orleans area. vuller in to believe flooding. we think it will be a cat 2 before landfall on top of west of new orleans. the worst place it can be for a hurricane. north of the right-hand side of the storm is where the surge and the flooding and the winds will be. this isn't a katrina but it will cause big problem pers the new orleans area. along the northern gulf coast. back to you. >> kimberly: janice, thank you for the update. we will check back in the fox news extreme weather center to

give you the latest news, breaking details on the hurricane isaac. as janice dean reported. category two by the time it hits landfall in new orleans. there are comparisons to katrina. janice saying it is not going to be the same as that impact. you hope and pray it's not. but you never know. now you have the political ramifications of the convention. >> eric: that is huge. the political ramifications. let's hope that obama and the left don't politicize this. this is a terrible storm. will it pact an area that doesn't need -- impact an area that doesn't need it. they don't need it. stay on focus, stay on message. the g.o.p. is here saying they pushed back the schedule a day to make sure people were safe here. doing everything in their power to make sure it's going right. i'm sure they will hand the storm however it may be when it makes landfall in new orleans. hopefully obama and the left won't politicize something they should have no right politicizing at all. >> dana: as i recall, i believe when hurricane katrina actually made landfall it was a category two.

i think it is extremely serious. they have some things in their favor. they have refortified levees to make sure hopefully there are no problems there. they have really good leadership in governor jindal and the mayor of new orleans, mitch landrieu. i don't know if they ordered evacuations yet. if they do order those, i hope everyone listens and goes. unfortunately we had the experience from before that shows how dangerous these things can be. >> kimberly: take a listen to romney. his reaction. there was questions about whether or not the convention should be canceled. not just postponed. here is what he had to say. >> gor, do you have a message for people in new orleans? >> i am with those people who are in the storm path and hope they're paired. >> give any thought to cancel the convention? >> a great convention ahead. >> kimberly: okay, is that the right reaction politically? is he setting the right tone? he started to donnel at it little bit but brought the

greg, did you watch the lunar landing? >> greg: it's so funny. how this guy was able to pull off this stunt and trick all of us to believing that he landed on the moon. if you want to believe it, that's okay with me. he reminds me what a wuss i am. i throw up on the teacups at disney land. if you saw the movie "the right stuff." the amount of training they go through to weed out the weaker types is incredible. there are less people who want to be astronauts and more people who want to play astronauts and be performers. but actually not achievers. >> kimberly: be honest. the shuttle ride on the way over here -- >> greg: he was hell! >> bob: with eric bolling, three people went up there. one person stayed around, collins. the other two landed. which would you like to be?
