>>. >> neil: just in. welcome everybody. i'm neil cavuto and i think you woke up this morning and surprised to see this. it was hours into sequestration and so far, not even a hint of frustration. it's what i don't see. i don't see airports shutting down because security agents were fired. i don't see mental patients wandering the streets because they didn't get their meds and i don't see mr. ed popping up in any cheeseburg are because we fired all the food inspectors. politicians scaring to us bone. big fat liars so far. so if this th passes for leadership in washington, it's a wonder that taxpayers wants to take a pass on washington, to our panel.
1:03 pm
charlie. >> very small fraction saying we are headed in the right direction. lack of leadership. i have to tell you this whole sequestration has taken to a whole new level the president has to understand that compromise. he can't offer a compromise, you don't accept it you are not compromising. compromise has to be on both sides. fanning the flames of fear on this was not disingenuous but harmful. the president is in a win-win situation, because if the economy grows, he, say, hey, it took off. it grows slower, i told you that thing was going to can kill us. it's time to stop trying to win the p.r. war. >> i disagree with the worst case scenario for the white house there is no discernible impact felt by a swath of united states because that would be proof, we can cut spending. we can cut it even in the most
1:04 pm
draconian way, but it's a haphazard way and hand-handed way. we don't have any real hurt done to the nation. >> i think the president has a prsmtd problem. it's the dire predictions and he said we are not going to enter the apocalypse, finally after predicting apocalypse for months. he has a real p.r. problem. the apocalypse coming from the white house, there will be some pain i'm sure. a couple government workers are going to take it on the chin. we should point out a lot of government workers live in d.c. and that place benefited from all the government spending. i think his problem is going to be p.r. when the apocalypse doesn't come. this guy is full of you know what and he is, especially on this subject.
1:05 pm
>> gregg: ben stein, let's say it doesn't come. it's not nearly as bad as he trumpeted it that it might be a case, you keep doing this mr. president, you keep doing the boy cries wolf, you have to stop the howling, what do you think happens? >> the real crisis is not so much of the economic crisis that affects the ordinary citizen. we do know to charles' point that tens of thousands of defense workers will be laid off. its real catastrophe to lose your job. the real catastrophe is that the government will not compromise. this isn't the third reich. it's supposed to be some people giving and not everyone getting what they want. the fact that the government can't compromise and come to a decision in the harsh spirit of compromising, that is the crisis. >> neil: adam?
1:06 pm
i'm going to take a slightly difficulty tact. i don't disagree what last been said. i think that the american people deserve a fair amount of the blame, too. we know public opinion polls we are not happy with the way our leaders in washington are leading but at the same time, we don't ever want them to cut any of our programs. electorate is completely two-face order this issue. it's not terribly surprising to me. >> neil: you are talking about the difference, okay. [ laughter ] >> a fair pointed. >> i'll include myself. >> neil: if you wanted something that is perfectly possible but i think you are mistaken. go ahead. >> nobody ever agrees with me on this program so it's okay, you can come to our viewers to our defense, neil.
1:07 pm
i think people and voters citizens will be a aggravated by some of these cuts and they will experience it in different ways. so we will see what happens. i don't think the fact we haven't had armageddon by this morning we will be in considerable pain down the road. >> neil: it doesn't have to be armageddon. >> i think, listen, think the slow down will come from raising taxes. when you have a payroll tax that is among the most regressive taxes, meaning it affects rich people as it affects poor people which is what president allowed to happen, that is a problem. we should point out, i know ben said there is no compromise, republicans compromised a lot. they compromised in the last go-around. they did their tax cuts and they are saying the voters put them in the office to cut. unfortunately it's going to weigh somewhat heavily on
1:08 pm
defense. i will say this. we defend the entire world. we defend italy. we defend welfare states in europe. at some point, they got to spend for their own defense. >> yeah, but they won't. >> that is their problem. >> we lose europe and we lose sahara and africa. that is catastrophe for the whole world. >> are the russians going to take over italy? >> no but if we lose the fight against terrorists it will be a catastrophe. >> i'm not saying that. there is no reason not to cut our defense budget somewhat. >> neil: neither you need to worry because the numbers in the scheme of things for defense and everything else, even in the aggregate with $85 billion. >> it's minimum, but people from the pentagon say it's not minimal and they are going to be
1:09 pm
extreme. i don't expect they are lying. >> neil: the ins and outs i'm not a fan of arbitrarily, i would have a backup plan even with pain that is all i'm saying. >> that wasn't the choice. there could have been a careful -- >> there could have been. i could have been michael phelps and winning the olympics. g.o.p. offered to give the president more flexibility. >> and he turned it down! >> he turned it down. >> no, i understand, i am saying charles, this is more kabuki theater. >> the republicans and showmanship and playing to the press and hold a press conference to say that just shows the lunacy of where we stand right now. >> you know, adam made the point earlier about everyone's fault. here is the thing. everybody can think that, but
1:10 pm
it's aided by these press kwlgsz when the president doesn't say, guys, america has to take some pain to avoid a whole lot of pain in future. that is presidential. >> what is even crazier. the democrats in the senate offered an alternative to the $85 billion in cuts including some tax increases and some cuts ten years out, zero net spending cuts. the democrats do not want to cut spending and they are hoping some small cuts lead to armageddon and it will not. >> the president won 59.8%. >> i though was 9.7. >> but he is running around saying he 'is not a dictator. guess what? he acts like one sometimes.

1:17 pm
>> should your employer monitor your health? >> one at a time. adam, you are okay with this being done outside of work. i saw adam last night eating a canoli? >> i would have to see details. i think it's okay if they want to monitor. blood sugar levels. >> neil: i have no idea about that. >> it depends where you get it. brooklyn, new york? >> wait -- adam, you are in wallow land that is the issue you don't even know what the company is looking at. so it's out of sight, out of mind mentality that is extremely dangerous. it's fries thing to think that your company -- >> i am so scared. >> you should be frightened.
