that is until he saw what was happening in florida. despite being out of the spotlight since november, the governor says his love for this country will drive him to remain a force in politics. >> well, i'm not going to disappear. i'm not running for office. i don't have a big organization that's out speaking in my behalf, but i care about america. i care about the people that can't find jobs. i care about the fact that we're wracking up larger deficits and putting the peril of the future generation very much in play. >> harris: governor romney also saying he and his wife ann will always be grateful for the opportunity to travel the nation in pursuit of winning the highest office in the land. >> it was an exciting, thrilling experience. and it didn't end the way we wanted it to, but the experience itself was magnificent. were there tough days? absolutely. were there exhilarating days, even more of them.

the news now in washington, steve? >> harris, yeah, republicans are both blaming the president and down playing the cuts as you heard it. house speaker john boehner said that spending is out of control, and that the president has kicked the can so far down the road and we're running out of road to kick the can on. he said it's unfortunate, no agreement was reached to head off the sequester cuts, but insisted there was no lack of efforts on his part. >> there's no one in this town who's tried harder to come to the president to deal with our long-term spending problems, no one. the fact is the president and senate democrats have done nothing to pass a plan, to avert this, and to deal honestly with the spending problem the country has. >> president obama is still urging republicans to work with him on a compromise, but the crisis appears to have hurt him. polls show both congress and the president are being blamed and one poll shows the president's approval rating slipping from 51% to 49%. a top white house advisor predicted today that once

>> >> most of a florida home where a man was swallowed up by a sinkhole is gone. cruise razing more than half of the house, the work beginning after the officials called off the search for 37-year-old jeff bush yesterday now presumed dead after the earth underneath his bedroom opened up and took him with it thursday night. we have been on the story from the beginning and now, before today's demolition began, officials salvaged as many keepsakes as they possibly could for the family who once lived there. cheers were actually heard in the crowd each time something valuable was saved, valuable meaning sentimental to them. photographs, a flag, a family bible. and as we've told you, jeff bush lived in that home with his brother jeremy and jeremy's girlfriend. the home had been in the girlfriend's family for years. today we heard from one of her relatives. a woman who grew up in the house, but moved when she was 20. >> it's just four walls.

we have a lot of the stuff that we cherished for the past in the house almost 39 years, or 40 years, and we have that now and we have each other. and that's all that matters. >> harris: well, now there are some new concerns about the houses that actually sit on either side and nearby, where that ground opened up. john casio of fox affiliate kvt has more. >> workers spent about two and a half hours delicately demolishing the house. they used an 80-foot crane to do it. there were plenty of tense moments when workers weren't sure the home and the ground would crumble altogether. >> just before the house came down, jeffrey bush's family said a tearful goodbye, his body still bauried in a huge link hole underneath. >> hard broken, don't know what to think. >> as it was demolished they

were careful to salvage the american flag. and a tear down loving on and a dance in delicacy as crews brought the wall down as saving as much as they could. firefighters delivered priceless possession in exchange for hugs and cheers. wanda carter clutched the family bible rescued from the rubble. >> and god knew we needed this. we have each other and that's all that matters. >> reporter: despite concerns of ground giving way, the house crumbled, but didn't cave. >> i kept my eyes closed, i couldn't watch. >> after demolition the rear portion stood and the hole where jeff bush lost his life out of view. >> i think of him every day, it's hard to sleep now. >> you never know what one moment is going to bring. >> the sinkhole forcing next door neighbors to evacuate and the structural integrity of their home will be looked at in the coming days. for jeff bush's family the sunday teardown was the beginning of the end of this

to act in the interest of the country and that means if we need an aircraft carrier in the gulf, and i believe we do, i thought we needed one more, that he should do it. i think if there are people who are incarcerated, he should make sure that we're able to keep them in jail. using the sequester as an excuse is in my opinion the wrong way to go. look it, again, it's politics, it's how do we do something to get a headline to make it look like the terrible republicans aren't willing to come together. >> harris: and there is more of chris wallace's interview with the romneys beginning tomorrow only on fox news channel. so, governor romney joining a course of republicans pushing back on the claims that spending cuts forced immigrants to go free. and reportedly releasing 2000 illegal immigrants from immigration and customs enforcement custody, or ice. now, internal documents reportedly showed that number could have been higher.

dominic di-natale is in los angeles with details on that. as many as 5,000 of these illegal immigrants may eventually be released. how is that possible after the administration said only a hundred either the white house didn't know or suddenly seems to be pushing the blame on the department of homeland security. you're right they said originally a few hundred, not 2000 of those illegal immigrants who have already been released have been celebrating their release and here is what one of them said earlier. >> of course i had fear, i want to comply with all of the laws, i want to live here well, and go to my court and hope that we have an immigration reform so i can stay here safely. >> reporter: a massive barrel of criticism as a result of not knowing or perhaps the

problems and concerns just who the people are that have been released and even though the government says they're very low risk, harris. >> harris: we may or may not find out what they knew and when they knew it, but plainly the white house is putting responsibility on the department of homeland security. so what's the response to the leak? >> well, the homeland security says it doesn't anticipate any more additional releases, but all the same, it issued this statement on saturday saying this is what may or may not happen. they're saying that it could change based on sequester, we do not yet know what the cut rate will be. priorities to detention remains serious criminal offenders and other individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety. now, some of those that have been released will have tags and have to report in quite frequently, but the republicans have been saying, look, they're still a threat or a flight risk to public security. you shouldn't have these
