even though it is raining out here in rome people are standing outside of the square waiting to see if there will be white or black smoke coming out of the small chimney on top of the sistine chapel. if there was a conclusive vote for the first vote which would be around now or so we could see white smoke. that's what everybody is looking for. if there is no conclusive vote toted tal no one reaches the two-thirds vote they will vote again. that one will be either white or black. you will see smoke in about 2 and a half hours or white smoke at 10:30. that's what everybody is waiting for. i want to bring in one of the experts here from the pontiff cal college. you have been doifollowing this

religiously. >> we have been watching it religiously. it is an opportunity for 1.1 billion catholics in the world to be watching right now we are getting more information than any one else in the world. for the past 150 years now we know this is the way in which we know what's going on in the conclave whether or not we are going to get white smoke that remains to be seen. >> we were not surprised to not see white smoke. the fist vote last night was more of a tip to the hat because they felt they were more they wanted to be more spiritual and give kudos. today we could actually see a vote. how likely is it we will see the white smoke today? >> we have seen three or four ballots in modern history and we get a vote.

wait around 7:30 our time we expect to see smoke of some sort regardless. >> unless we see it nr the next few minutes. the thinking is they went in there at 9:00 local time so about an hour and a half ago the thinking was they vote from now. two-thirds majority or 115 cardinals voting. if nobody gets to the 77 they don't bother with the smoke. they go an hour or so and then they vote again. that's the morning session. then they will take lunch break. before they do they will let us know we have a pope or no we doo a pope. this afternoon they will do the same thing again. if they have a pope they will send smoke up. another vote and send smoke up by 4:30 local time this afternoon we will get smoke again. if we don't have a pope we play be in a long hall.
