reaching out. i spoke to two sheriffs this morning that feel it would be a good thing for colorado and bring more clarity to existing laws. so, there's three of us right now that i know would be in support of it. >> bill: well, here is four, chief macintosh who works in adams county just north of denver. do you support jessica's law, chief? >> yes, sir, i do. >> bill: are you insulted that the editorial director of the denver post, the largest newspaper in the state, says that you and the sheriff and every other law enforcement doesn't support it? that seems to me to be a pretty disturbing statement when both of you men, he could have picked up the phone easily. did you get a call, by the way, from anybody at the denver post, asking if you supported, either of you, jessica's law? >> no, i certainly didn't get a call and i don't remember ever being asked if we support it because i could tell you my position would be yes. >> and didn't pull this out of the hat so they could prop up

ferrandino and the democratic party. and chief, why do you support jessica's law. all we hear is that colorado has tough enough laws against child predators. >> well, bill, for me, it's all about the safety for our children and our communities and we need to ensure that there's laws out there that protect our kids, our greatest assets. and anytime that somebody comes out and makes a statement for law enforcement and hasn't contacted law enforcement, then i, like the sheriff, take offense to that. >> bill: now, sheriff, you have to run for office in el paso county which uncompasses colorado spring. >> what's the climate in the state. when i worked out there from 1978 to 1980, all right, colorado was a fairly traditional, no, i wouldn't say it was a conservative state, but it was traditional. you would never have legalized marijuana, never would have had--

jessica's law would have passed like that back then. what happened? >> you know, it seems that there's a real movement to not hold criminals accountable for their actions and it's almost driving or being driven, i should say, in a more liberal approach and even a few years ago, under governor ritter, we released hundreds and hundreds of what they termed as nonviolent offenders, often shortening sentences and putting them back on the streets and i think law enforcement today is dealing with the repercussions of that and i think there's a reluctance to truly hold those offenders accountable and put the rights of law abiding citizens ahead of the criminals. >> chief, is there a polarization, like do you have at bolder denver actions, right? very liberal, but then the rest of the state doesn't seem to be that liberal, but it's overwhelmed because that's the population center in denver, and that access. is that what's going on? >> you know, i really can't speak to that, bill.

i just know that up in the northern area, in the metro area, working with the law enforcement officers there, that our main concern is the safety of the communities and which we enforce the laws and to me, it's taken the politics out of it and it really is ensuring that we are protecting the rights of the children. >> bill: and jessica's law, both of you agree it would be easier to put the child predators away, obviously, 25 to life first conviction and help you guys in trying to protect the kids of colorado. am i correct? >> oh, absolutely. i agree it would and i think it needs a floor for minimum sentence and too often we let people out of prison after serving half of the sentence issued. >> bill: last word, chief? >> i was just going to add when you look at the states that already have it, and you noted at the top of your story, that there are 44 other

described him in the opening as being openly gay because that's who he is and this is his priority, getting civil unions, legalizing marijuana. four days later, the denver post almost uses the exact same language as that democratic fundraiser in an editorial column attacking me as a homophobe and whatever. that i think is collusion, professor. >> well, it'd be hard for me to comment on whether it's collusion or not, but i can see where the democratic party might want to exploit this issue i've raised for their own benefit and particularly they'd see an east coast media organization like fox news would need to come in and meddle in their internal affairs and that the denver post would say, hey, we support this narrative and we're going to get on board with that. >> bill: all right. you, joe, work in media primarily left wing. >> right. >> bill: it's not everybody. >> no. >> bill: but primarily. okay? now, it's a website.
