christ. let us protect christ in our lives so we can protect others, so that we can protect creation. for the patient of being a protector however is not just something involving christians alone. it has a dimension which comes before. it is simply human. it involves everyone. it means protecting all creation, the beauty of the creator world as the book of genesis tells us in st. francis showed us, it means respecting each and every one of god's creatures, and the environment in which we live, it means protecting people, taking care of everyone with love,

especially the children, the elderly. those who are fragile and who are always left in the periphery of our hearts. it means taking care of one another within our families as wives take care of each other and then as parents they take care of their children, and then over time the children themselves will take care of their parents. it means living friendship with sincerity since they are a way of protecting each other in trust, respect and goodness. in the end everything has been entrusted to our protection as men. it is a responsibility that

involves all of us. the protectors of god's gift. whenever human beings fail to live up to this responsibility, whenever we fail to take care of creation and our brothers and sisters then the ways open to destruction, destruction of hearts that are hardened and every period of history unfortunately there are parents who fought death and countenance of men and women. i would like to ask all of those who hold positions of responsibility in the economic political and social world to all of the men and women of goodwill, let us be protectors

of creation, protectors of god's plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another in the environment. let us not allow destruction and death to accompany the advance of this world of ours but to be protectors we also need to keep watch over ourselves. let us remember that hatred, envy and pride de file our lives. the protector are also watching over our emotion, our hearts because they are the very seed of good and evil intentions.

intentions that build up and tear down. we must not be afraid of goodness and not even of tenderness and here i would like to add another comment. taking care, protecting requires goodness. it calls for tenderness in the book st. joseph appears a strong and brave man and working man. yes in his heart we also see great tenderness which is not the virtue of the weak, rather the opposite. it is a sign of trend of spirit and ability for concern and the passion for true openness to others. ability to love. we must not be afraid of

goodness, of tenderness. today, together with st. joseph we are celebrating the beginning of the ministry of the new bishop of rome the successor of peter which also involves a certain power. certainly jesus christ conferred power upon peter. but what sort of power was it? jesus had three questions to peter about love are followed by three commands. feed my little sheep, let us never forget that authentic power is service.

here and there are so many faithful in the streets that famous very long street that leads from the tiger river all of the way up to saint peters square. i know my family is there and they are excited to be there. as we see in the uk ristick cye eucharistic celebration some having their heads bowed some of them kneeling recognizing although we are celebrating the inauguration of the pope it's not really about the pope it's about our god of love and tenderness as pope francis said to us repeatedly in his homily. he says it's not about me it's about god.

i don't believe there's been a time when you can switch from television channel to television channel around the world since probably 2005 that people who do not go church or are not of faith that you can tune into this. whether you are of faith or not it is a spectacular presentation and gorgeous ceremony and maybe an opportunity for the catholic church to bring people into the faith or even more so to remind those who may not be faithful of what is possible and the mentsse that is there if you choose to hear it. >> i think the beauty of what we are seeing is a reminder to people life is about beauty. what is beautiful and true is what we strife for. the revelation of jesus christ in the catholic faith incarnates
