at any moment. fox report live from seoul, south korea. our journalists with an up-close look at what's happening there. also, a second man arrested for threatening a public official. in the same county where three people have been killed in cold blood, including a district attorney, his wife and one of his assistant prosecutors. in moments, the latest on the push to stop the killing and catch who's doing it. and home schooling your child. do you have the right to do that? well, the justice department says it is not a fundamental right. tonight, what this could mean for all those children who are learning at home across america. their safety is not guaranteed. yet the staff at several embassies in nuclear armed north korea are staying put. even after getting a message from north korea to leave. the north's government saying it may not be able to protect

foreign diplomats if war breaks out there. one official telling a south korean news agency that most foreign governments see the north korean message as another way to ratchet up the tension on the peninsula. north korean leader kim jong-un continuing the daily barrage of threats of nuclear war. he's been angry over new united nations sanctions, which were imposed following his country's third nuclear weapons testing in february. and his rage apparently only increasing with recent military exercises going on between the south and the u.s. it included sending b-2 bombers on a round-tripp to south korea. david, kim jong-un is talking again, what's he saying now? >> reporter: well, he's showing a lot of north korean tv today, a lot of propaganda showing him to be a strong man. some of it with him handling a gun, and also instructing soldiers on how to fire their

rifles, and this is from a man who has no military experience at all, harris. at the moment, a lot of propaganda. but no fresh threats over the last 12 or so hours. >> so mainly that just works on the people there, no one else really. how does the north say it can back up the threats? >> reporter: well, if we were going to go for an all-out war, of course, they've got a massive military over there, 1 million-man army. i'm standing here in seoul and we understand there's thousands of artillery pieces trained at this south korean capital. they could probably flatten it within a few hours. a lot of the focus, of course, is on missiles. we know the medium-range missiles are pretty strong from south korea. but they're talking about nukes. at the moment, harris, they haven't got the militarization of the nuclear weapon to put it on a missile to fire it anywhere. >> but you say that's really been a concern. with ewant to remind everybody

we have 28,000-plus american troops in the area. the concern is the missile movements inside north korea, it's difficult to keep up with that. >> reporter: well, from what we understand from the south korea, which is monitoring the situation very closely, two intermediate range missiles have been moved to the east coast of north korea, and the government here in the south is suggesting they might be preparing for a test. but the military from south korea and the u.s. has been put on high alert. south korea's sent two ships to the sea, and two north american ships are off guam which could be a potential target. they're also shipping an anti-defense missile system to protect that u.s. island by any attack by north korea, harris. >> it's interesting to see the video of kim jong-un. as you said, he's never really been in the military handling a gun. still, because of the nature of all of this, we have to take it

very seriously. david piper, thank you so much, in south korea today. we're told the white house and pentagon are closely monitoring the situation on the korean peninsula, because it is so unpredictable. the sufficient reportedly preparing for any scenario. putting our own defense systems in place around that region. elizabeth now from washington. >> yeah, harris, in addition to the precautionary move, of strengthening the military defense system in guam, the u.s. continues to use extreme caution with kim jong-un's regime. jay carney said the administration is constantly monitoring any developments and would not be surprised if they do see action from that country. listen. >> we have seen them launch missiles in the past and the united nations security council has repeatedly condemned them as violations of the north's obligations under numerous security council resolutions. >> a state department official also saying there is no need to act in haste when dealing with the rogue country. >> we all know that this is an

unpredictable regime and unpredictable situation. again, our posture remains it be prudent, to take appropriate measures in the defense and deterrence sphere, both for ourselves and for our allies, but to continue to urge the dprk to change course, because this is not going to end their isolation. >> the obama administration also in constant communication with china about the decision to upgrade defenses and tactics to deter north korea from any ir ri irrational decisions. john kerry will visit beijing, south korea and japan next week, so we'll monitor it and bring you the latest. >> and china and russia the staunchest allies of north korea. china has been pretty quiet up to it point. it will be interesting to see what the chinese say. exactly what they could hit, one that could upset our national security. i'll talk with an expert on the

region who knows a lot about the weaponry op the korean peninsula coming up inside the "fox report." iran's nuclear program breaking up without much progress to report. negotiators from six world powers, and iran, meeting over the past two days. trying to reach a deal that would ease concerns that iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons. the u.s. and allies want to curb the uranium enrichment program. officials saying they'll keep working toward a deal through diplomatic efforts at this point. a pair of deadly attacks in afghanistan. killing six americans, and an afghan doctor. a bomber detonating a car filled with explosives next to a convoy. three of our troops and two american civilians we're told were killed, including a state department employee. the group was on a peace mission. they were taking books to a school. as many as nine other americans were wounded in all of this. and the u.s. military is also

saying another american was killed by insurgents in a different part of the country. the attacks coming in the same day the chairman of joint chiefs of staff dempsey is due inside that country assessing security there. the president is using his weekly saturday address to confront critics from both sides of the political aisle on his new federal budget. he talked about it today, giving a bit of a preview ahead of next week's official release. critics calling the proposal unwise and unpopular. the president argues his plan would reform the nation's benefit program and close the hoop holes for the wealthy. but republican leaders warn they are firmly against $580 billion in new taxes, included in the president's new budget. molly has more now from washington. >> harris, republicans say the president is moving in the, quote, wrong direction, in his plan for a new budget. today in his weekly radio and internet address, president obama says, while it might not be ideal, it is a fiscally

responsible blue print. the president will unveil the details on wednesday, but it's expected that the budget will include more tax hikes on the wealthy and some middle class families, and as an olive branch to republicans concerned about government spending on entitlement programs, a cut in the future cost of living increases for social security and other benefit programs. >> it's a compromise i'm willing to accept in order to move beyond a cycle of short-term crisis driven decision making, and focus on growing the economy and middle class for the long run. it includes many ideas republicans have said they could accept as well. it's a way we can make progress together. >> republican house speaker john boehner seen here last november with the president, said the president's budget appeared to have only, quote, modest entitlement savings and won't mack social security and other programs more fiscally solvent. he said the gop has already given in, saying, the president

got his tax hikes on the wealthy without any corresponding spending cuts. we need to solve our spending problem and what the president has offered would leave us with a budget that never balances. the president is also getting criticism from his left flank. vermont independent senator bernie sanders who caucuses with the democrats, is usurging the president to say millions of people will be extremely disappointed if the president, quote, caves on this issue. harris? >> well, molly in washington. thank you. right now, life-threatening storms are headed for the nation's midsection and it could be, as we understand, the worst weather outbreak since last may. meteorologist janice dean tracking it all from the weather center. she'll join us. taken down by a sex scandal. what's called one of the most transformative leaders, the american military has ever seen. the latest on general david petraeus. he's now reportedly talking with the feds. a big chunk of our nation

one innovation at a time. the new american is arriving. an interrogation at a police headquarters turns tragic when the suspect grabs a gun and kills the police officer who was talking with him. the jackson police department in mississippi had a questioning going on with this man about murder. officers say he suddenly lunged at them and ended up wrestling with one detective and shooting that detective four times. the suspect shot and killed himself. while he was not handcuffed, we're told it's common to be unrestrained during questioning. surveillance cameras reportedly

capturing it all, but the tapes have not yet been released, and i doubt we could show you much of it even if they were. tough day. hard for the nation, bracing for severe weather over the next several days. this will be a monster system. a potential for high winds, rain, possible tornadoes breaking out. the new round of storms brewing could be one of the worst we've seen in quite some time. meteorologist janice dean is watching it all for us in the fox weather center. janice? >> the good news is, we have time to prepare, harris. this is going to be an event that really gets going monday through wednesday, so we have today and tomorrow, if you're in the path of these storms, you want to make sure what your plan is going to be, especially if you have a tornado watch or warning, which is highly likely with this storm system. all the ingredients are going to come together for the potential hail and damaging winds and several tornadoes which could be very strong ones. let's look at -- this is not the storm system that's going to hit us for the early next week, this

is the storm that's going to continue to move into canada. but we have seen impressive snow totals across northern minnesota, and the u.p. of michigan, as it continues to move into canada. six inches, eight inches of snow, more snow is on the way. this is the next system we're going to watch moving into the rockies that's going to eject into the plains states and give us that potential for severe weather. so as you can see, very unsettled across the west. we're talking 6 to 12 inches of snow, in some cases we could see higher totals. look at this. can you believe we're into spring and we're going to see winter weather like this? this is one of our perhaps computer models, but a wide swath of 6 to 12 inches. in this area here, that blue shade, possibility of 12 to even 24 inches of snow. so that's the cold side of the storm. the warm side is where we're going to see the potential for severe weather. all the ingredients are there, cold weather across the rockies, a lot of moisture fromand then d

of the system as it moves into the plains states. monday, tuesday, wednesday, dallas, oklahoma city, joplin, missouri, for tuesday, watching this area very carefully. and then as we head into wednesday, moving across the mid-mississippi river valley. this is a three-day event, harris, and we'll be watching the storm prediction center as we do think there will be many tornado watches in the future heading into the new work week. and again, as you mentioned, this could be a severe weather outbreak, one we haven't seen for close to a year. >> when you see a hurricane moving offshore, you give it a name. you don't name this monster, but it's huge. i really don't like it when your weather models get aggressive. >> i'll tell them that the next time. >> we're watching it. >> certainly impressive we could see over a foot of snow across the northern rockies and plains. >> in april. >> in april. >> thank you. a fugitive who evaded capture for nearly a decade is finally in police custody. and now he's talking about it, bragging probably, about how he did it.

an outpouring of support for world famous pastor rick warren as we learned his youngest son has died. warren, author of a huge selling book "purpose-driven life" his son matthew committed suicide. that coming from the saddleback

community church in california today. the family said he suffered from a mental illness that caused depression and it was difficult at times to control his emotions. pastor warren said, despite the best doctors, counselors and prayers for healing, the torture of mental illness never subsided. today after a fun evening together with kay and me, and a momentary wave of despair at his home, he took his life. matthew warren was 27. new details coming now to life about how a man evaded police for years while living off the land. utah police arrested troy knapp this week, sneaking up on him as he chopped wood behind a cabin, well, the cabin wasn't his. he was wanted since 2004. he told police se survived by gaining access to unoccupied cabins, sleeping in the owners' beds -- sounds like

goldilocks -- and listened to a radio on the manhunt for him. when police would get close, he would vanish into the woods. that wasn't until, of course, they got him. right now, new developments this the search for suspects in the murders of three people, including two prosecutors. texas police have arrested robert miller who "accused of threatening a district attorney in the same county where two other people were killed. d.a. mike mcclelland pictured here and his wife sin hi a, both found shot at their home a week ago, and their killings came two months after assistant d.a. mark cassie was gunned down near the kaufman county courthouse. dominic live from our los angeles bureau with more on this. don? >> harris, that man the authorities have arrested is robert miller from texas, and is now charged with making a terrorist threat. he's being held on a $1 million bond for allegedly posting that threat against assistant kaufman, county district attorney for an unnamed district

attorney there. he did it via facebook. he's the second guy from the same town to do this within days. nick threatened the specified official on the investigator's tip line. authorities say neither miller nor moreale are linked to the killings. but they said with three justice related public officials assassinated in a matter of weeks, their targeting is alarming for authorities. >> when you have assassinations in a short period of time, that sends a very disturbing message to our prosecutors, our police officers, our judges, that you are a potential victim anywhere you are. >> reporter: and brian there, a former nypd cop, said when targets are made at such high levels, it's designed to be symbolic and personal, which actually may help the investigators narrow down their leads.

harris? >> symbolic and perm and deadly. i mean, gosh, this case, what about the one that's going on? it makes us sound like these threats via facebook and the tip lines may or may not have had anything to do with the d.a. and other brougprosecutors killed. what do we find on their killers? >> it's gone pretty quiet on their hunt for the killings, giving no indication they have any lead at all. in the case of mcclellands, they're wondering if they had known their killer. they had become very concerned for their safety. police say she wouldn't do that they wor familiar with, or maybe the killer had just tricked her into opening the front door. >> harris, that's an interesting detail. dominic for us tonight. thank you very much. we are getting reports, the fbi has made a visit to the home of former cia director david petraeus. officials say it was part of an

investigation into allegations that his biographer paula broadwell improperly received or stored classified documents while she was writing a book about him. the fbi would not confirm any of this to fox news, saying there was law enforcement activity in northern virginia. you may remember petraeus re signed as cia director last year after relations he had -- or revelations, excuse me, he had an extramarital affair with broadwell. we are watching a delicate situation in north korea right now. in fact, nuclear armed country told foreign embassies to close down and tell diplomats to get out. what exactly are the north's military capabilities? when they threaten us, where can we really be hit by them? we'll talk about it next with our guest inside "the fox report." this week's new jobs report, with numbers that are not encouraging, actually quite alarming. what is happening? why aren't more americans working? we'll take a closer look. ♪

the teachers demonstrating on a four-lane road and blocking traffic for hours. they're out in force to protest new plans that would loosen controls over hiring and firing and requiring them to be evaluated. china, international pillow fight day in hong kong, costumes, pajamas, adding to the bedlam. spider-man taking on bruce lee. good luck with that. that's a wrap on the fox trip around the world in 80 seconds. i'm harris faulkner. it's bottom of the hour. time for the top of the news. the united states keeping an eye on the volatile situation developing in north korea. south korean media reporting the north has placed two missiles on mobile launchers and hid them somewhere on the east coast. those missiles may be the medium range type estimated to have a range of up to 2,500 miles which not only puts our american troops inside south korea well within range but also u.s. military bases in japan and

guam. that is the context of the danger here. joining us now is an associate at global security.org, a public policy organization, and they are experts on this region. joseph, thanks a lot for joining us tonight. >> thank you for having me. >> so we've been seeing video come out of the region. it's of south korean soldiers staging big weapons at a military training field. what are they bracing for that could come across the border exactly from north korea? >> well, i think the chances of a major north korean offensive, you know, rolling across the demilitarized zone in division strength is low, but what they could expect is an old style soviet blitzkrieg attack, heavy armor penetration, and an attempt to sort of use tanks and heavy artillery to move down into the south quickly and overpower the defenders. >> you know, we watched today, and mainly people were surprised to hear this, when you're told to clear out your embassies, the germans, the swedish, the russians, the british, the

french embassies saying, no, we'll keep our doors open despite north korea's warning to close. is that a good idea? >> i honestly think that the embassy staff probably have a better understanding of any imminent preemptive strike against north korean than the north koreans might have. and the north koreans for all we would use, whether the embassies would evacuate, as a barometer of any attack coming their way. >> what about these medium sized missiles, and the fact that they're being hidden someplace inside that country? what kind of good reconnaissance or information could we expect to have on that? >> this is something we've been planning for as the united states for some time. north koreans are expert at hiding their weapons, in caves and other bunker type installations. so this is not something we are unprepared for. it's always difficult to locate these weapons, but we're no doubt using all the intelligence available to us to keep an eye on these movements. >> you know, joseph, i just heard you use the word time. i want to ask you about time line here. according to kim jong-un,

they've been at war for 60 years, since there was no official peace treaty, well, not just according to him, there wasn't, an official peace treaty put in after the korean war. what is the time line forial vi north korea? why now? >> the big issue is kim jong-un is a relative unknown, both in the international community and likely in north korea. he has to assert himself as the iron-willed commander as kim song un. these are major heroes to live up to in north korea. he has to put himself out there as a rightful successor. the time line is unclear, because we don't really necessarily know what's going on inside north korea and what the leadership dynamics are. whatever does happen, the united states and their south korean allies are going to have to respond to in some fashion, and those responses, again, will definitely have to reflect whatever the north koreans end up doing. >> let's talk a minute, if we

can, about japan, and guam. it seems to be a trickle effect here, wherever we have a base, wherever we're friends and they've taken a target, these other countries have to start to get ready for what might be coming their way. what does this do to upset the balance of things? >> well, the united states has also been prepared for this, and has made sure to coordinate with its allies over the years. the united states presidents in south korea has dramatically reduced, but we've made sure to keep up with the south korean military, which is itself a developed first-rate military. the japanese military is also very highly developed. the united states is prepared to deploy large numbers of forces to the region rapidly, despite the fact that our on-the-ground posture is not necessarily as large as it once was. >> i want to segway now, because you and i had talked before, and you had with our producers, that you feel like there's a connection between what we're watching what's happening in north korea, and that iran's

nuclear talks have stalled. what is the connection that you see? >> the connection goes back to the aq khan network, the leader of the pakistani nuclear program is known to have had connections with iran and north korea both. the idea that the lead nuclear scientist in pakistan was operating on his own without the knowledge of the government is extremely difficult to believe. and it also means then that what you're really looking at is one nuclear program operating in three locations. >> wow. china and russia, china's been relatively quiet at this point it seems like, joseph. russia has said specifically they want the united states and north korea to kind of ratchet down their rhetoric. how do you see china playing a role? >> china is going to be the most important actor here. china is one of north korea's last remaining partners. i wouldn't necessarily say allies. china doesn't necessarily after allies as much as interests. the north koreans know this. and the chinese are definitely willing to cooperate to a degree

in whatever statement the north koreans might be trying to make, but they're also not willing to see them bring down the entire region. >> great perspective on that. joseph, global security.org, we appreciate your time on this saturday night. thank you very much. we're going to keep it with china for just a second, because china is saying that two more people have contracted an unusual and deadly strain of bird flu inside that country. this now brings the total number of sick people with the bird flu to 14. remember, we've watched this before. six people have already died. health officials think the virus is spreading from direct contact with infected birds. chinese authorities have slaughtered more than 20,000 birds, and shut down all live poultry sales in affected areas. so far, there's no evidence the virus has spread beyond china. pope francis has made his first appointment since becoming the leader of the world's 1 billion-plus catholics. the pope tapping rodriguez to

head the vatican office. he replaces joseph tobin who was transferred to the indianapolis archdiocese. nelson mandela has left the hospital officially after being treated for pneumonia. this is his third health scare in the past four months. the former south african president and anti-apartheid leader, at 94 years old, he spent ten days in the hospital and is continuing treatment at a johannesburg house where he lives. doctors say he's making sustained and gradual improvement. new jobs numbers are out. and now we're looking closer at them. they show unemployment fell last month to 7.6%. some people may calculate that as good news. we're told one reason the drop is because so many people just gave up. they got discouraged. they stopped looking for work. we thought that trend had changed. it hasn't. last month only 88,000 jobs were created in this country.

many fewer than expected. but there are also some new concerns about the types of jobs that are being created in the economy. peter takes a look from washington. >> i had five applications i was looking at today. and four of them were -- had master's degrees. >> the stack of resumes on john findley's desk at crystal city sports pub in northern virginia is impressive, but it's not unique, because 13.4 million college graduates now work for hourly pay which is 19% higher than six years ago. in fact, last year, 284,000 college graduates worked for minimum wage, and 37,000 of them had advanced degrees. >> college grads, grads of all kinds, you know, are facing stiff competition from not only older workers, but from people who have come out over the last several years in very tough job markets, and they're clogging up the space.

so college grads, a lot of them are coming out and having to take jobs just to make sure they can make ends meet. >> 60% of jobs lost during the recession were considered mid-wage, but during the recovery, an almost identical percentage, 58% of new jobs, have been low wage. the low wage openings that have increased over the last decade include food prep workers, customer service reps, secretaries, waiters, retail sales people, and janitors. >> this is supposed to be the fourth year of an economic recovery, and we're just not seeing the high-paying jobs that you'd normally see at this stage of the economic cycle. >> and even though john said every day is a fight in this economy, he thinks his highly educated pool of applicants is an asset. >> i like anybody who is willing to put their education aside, per se, and say, look, i need to work and i need a job. those are the people you want. >> when college graduates take those low wage jobs, it leaves

america. a legal battle heating up over home schooling, and it could decide whether teaching your children at home is a fundamental american right. one family granted asylum in the u.s. after facing prosecution in germany for home schooling their kids. could now be forced to leave this country. and their case could affect every american family which chooses home schooling. douglas kennedy with the story. >> in 2008, uva fled germany, after facing imprisonment and the forcible removal of his children. >> your crime was that you wanted to home school your kids. >> yeah, we wanted it home school our kids in germany. and it's illegal there. >> at first the united states granted uva and his family political asylum. but then the justice department stepped in, asserting that the practice of parents educating their children could not be used
