defense minister and another kim jong- kim jong- kim jong-un supervising planes. and delaying a trip to washington, he says, he will he remain in soul for, quote, a measure. steve centanni following from the capital, first, david piper streaming live from the south korean capital, seoul. >> reporter: yes, it's looking increasingly likely that north korea is going to conduct that missile test. now, the south korean government says it could happen by wednesday, april the 10th. now, they are saying their assessment is based largely on a warning by north korea that embassies should take their staffs. and the movement of the missiles to the east of north

korea and they believed to have a range of 1800 miles and could reach as far as guam, but north korea has threatened to attack. the u.s. tried to make sure it doesn't make anything though to make the situation worse here. the pentagon has postponed a planned ballistic missile. fearing it could be interpreted. and general james thurmon, the forces in korea to washington has been delayed because of the crisis. now, if any country has influence on north korea, it's china. it provides the majority of pyongyang's food and fuel. and china's president implied in a speech today, without naming north korea, the region shouldn't be disrupted by one country and australian prime minister warned that conflict here would be disastrous for the region. >> all countries in the region share a deep interest in strategic stability. but the consequences of

conflict are ever more severe for us all. this is nowhere no clear than on the korean peninsula. there are any aggression is a threat to interest to every country in the region. >> reporter: secretary of state kerry will be meeting leaders from south korea, japan, and most importantly, the chinese leadership. back to you, harris. >> harris: david piper, thank you very much. in washington, north korea's growing antagonism is growing concern from the white house to capitol hill. we've been showing you military drills and pending missile tests, has u.s. leaders wondering what north korea has in mind and all this, plus, as we told you on the fox report, a warning from the north it can no longer guarantee the safety of foreign diplomates there. and steve centanni, what is the latest reaction tonight

from the white house? >> reporter: well, in the face of north korea's latest threats, members of congress and the white house staff weighed in on today's sunday talk shows. arizona senator john mccain was asked what would happen if there were open hostilities with north korea? >> south korea would win, we would win if there was an all-out conflict, but the fact is that north korea could set seoul on fire and that would be a catastrophe of enormous proportions. i don't know what kind of game this young man is playing, it's obviously brinksmanship. >> reporter: the young man mccain is referring to, kim jong-un, analysts say he's trying to proof his meddle at home and pressuring the west to provide aid. and the test of missiles last year and nuclear weapons this year and threatened war with the u.s. recent weeks and moved a missile to the east coast of north korea, a white house aide suggested he's

playing a dangerous game while further isolating his on people. >> we have a situation where the north korea is having a pattern we've seen for many, many years. provocative actions and bellicose, and the korea to step back and meet the obligation and undertake their number one call, which is economic development. >> reporter: the officials at the white house, the pentagon and state department have said said they take north korea's threats seriously and don't want to do anything to further escalate the tensions, harris. >> harris: as you pointed out. kim jong-un is so unpredictable, we don't know what he'll do. the man atop our military weighing in on the the korean peninsula. and saying that they have missiles prepared in response to north korea's threat, but dempsey doesn't think that the north will undertake serious action. and holding talks with u.s.

commanders and afghan officials. and general dempsey focusing on afghanistan when he says, he believed some areas there will be contested by the taliban for years to come, once u.s. and other international forces complete their withdrawal at the end of next year. the general saying that afghans will take the security lead throughout the country before summer as agreed to in january by president obama and afghan president karzai. well, the war in afghanistan also coming up during secretary of state john kerry's trip overseas. earlier secretary kerry meeting with turkey's prime minister and he's there and going to israel next and working on relations between the two countries that will help stabilize the middle east. but the secretary mention add young american diplomate, a young american, 25 years old taking textbooks to schools in afghanistan and she died along with five other americans and ten afghan children in a weekend of violence inside that country. she's the first u.s. diplomate killed since terrorists hit

our outpost in benghazi, murdering u.s. ambassador christopher stevens and three other americans. our connor powell with more from jerusalem. >> reporter: and she was killed saturday in a province in afghanistan when the convoy she was travelling in was hit by an ied. three u.s. troops and an unnamed civilian advisor were also killed in the attack. the 25-year-old john hopkins graduate was a public affairs officer in kabul, part of a team delivering textbooks to an afghan school when she died. two weeks ago she was secretary kerry's guide through kabul. and kerry had this to say about her. >> we lost a very bright, brave, young woman, we lost her to a horrific attack in afghanistan and today, our hearts are broken. >> reporter: secretary of state john kerry arrived in an effort to jump start the peace process and went to ramallah

to meet with abbas. and he'll meet with israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu tomorrow. despite secretary of state kerry's efforts, expectations remain low. >> harris: we want to tell you more about the young diplomate as her death shows how dangerous it is to bring. her family says ann was an adventurer who died doing what she loved. >> we were so proud of ann, she did so many great things and she was a hard worker, she was energetic, very devoted to the work she was doing. very devoted to helping the people in the country, afghanistan, where she was working, and i think the key thing is that she was really doing what she loved and she was doing something that really made a difference. >> harris: to join the u.s. foreign service right after

last year for being a whistle blowser against rice. fox severe weather alert. severe storms are on the move setting up potential tornados for some and many of you are living through this as this thing is building like a monster, and meteorologist janice dean joining us now. >> hi, harris, . yes, it's a multi-faceted storm bringing us tornado and feet of snow. the main system is across the rockies, but ahead of it we're seeing severe weather, severe thunderstorm watches in effect across portions of kansas, into missouri as you can see until 12 p.m. central time and 9 p.m. into missouri and several severe thunderstorm warnings in and around those watches. so it's begun even though the main parent storm is across the rockies. our severe weather threat is going to last three days, starting with monday. taking a look at all of these cities from oklahoma through kansas, nebraska, even colorado. then we head into tuesday back

when we think we have all the ingredients. we have the warm moist, the gulf moisture moving into very cold air from the west and very unsettled weather ahead of this front. so this is where we think the big setup is going to be for long lasting, perhaps life threatening weather and that's going to continue overnight tuesday into wednesday and across the mississippi river. we have to watch this carefully, we've got a few days ahead of us, if you live in those areas make your preparations and where you're going to be why and when you see a watch or a warning and the cold side of this. 6 to 12 inches across a wide swath here and some areas saying we could get two feet of snow in april and astonishing. and one of the main ingredients we need is the cold air from the west. look at denver, 21. it's going to be 65 on tuesday, so, a drop of 40 degrees and tuesday, that looks deeper across the south so the clash of the two air masses giving what we think could be the first severe

and catherine herridge from washington joining us on a sunday. what does the letter say and special-ops, what message are they hoping to get out. >> harris, this letter first obtained by fox news is signed by more than 700 special operations vets and urging congress for a select committee tasked with a single mission to investigate the benghazi terrorist attacks and includes 15 questions ranging from what warnings were given to the state department, the security was unravelling on the ground, if al-qaeda and islamic militias gained a food hold, to the real-time decision making of president obama, hillary clinton and the defense department on the night of september 11th. reads in part, america is always held to the notion that no american will be left behind and every effort will be made to respond, given our backgrounds we're concerned it sends a negative message to future military and diplomatic personnel and the letter questions why the survivors evacuated from the state

department conflict and the cia annex have remained so silent more than six months after the attack, harris. >> harris: what about the status of the select committee? >> this letter runs more than 20 pages with all the signatures, house resolution 36 which has gathered about 70 signatures so far and before the spring recess, the chairman of the intelligence armed services and foreign affairs committee were running an investigation and said pulling their findings together should be enough. >> we want to make sure that we have a full story of what happened and where there are conflicting stories we're going to work to de-conflict them. >> i have no problems with continuing to get the facts and data, but only for finding out what happened, where we're going in the future and making sure it doesn't happen again. >> this letter is expected on capitol hill monday and it's sent to every member we're told in the house. we don't know tonight, whether it will change any minds, harris. >> harris: so interesting, we started earlier on the fox

reform, but people with differing views getting out ahead of the president, hitting the airwaves today. peter doocy with the news from washington. >> the white house was an enforceable background check from anybody buying from a store, a show or a neighbor. but they said today with the calls for stronger background checks, the president is taking the debate in the wrong direction and that man, ais a hutchinson, a former congressman, defended proposals to put armed guards in schools. it's not about arming children, teachers should teach and others protect. it's about providing armed officers first and then secondly, if that's not available, to have an armed school staff that's trained and selected. but the white house is standing its ground and accusing the republicans of blocking meaningful reform. >> when the president gave the state of the union and newtown
