8:00 am
okay? >> absolutely. >> jamie: have a great week. >> eric: we start a brand-new hour of america's news headquarters with a fox news alert. it is monday morning in north korea. the clock just struck midnight. we could have another defiant missile launch. april 15 is the 101st birthday of kim il song, the grandfather of the current leader, kim jong un. good morning, everyone. welcome to our live coverage. >> we do expect him to mark at this time day in some way. secretary of state kerry, in fact, in the reason, he disbliz japan, meeting with the leaders there. it's the last stop of his asian tour. why is he there?
8:01 am
assuring them of america's commitment. at the same time, there is new video released on the north korean government web site, showing imagined targets for nuclear attacks within the united states. they show missiles hitting los angeles, washington, new york and for some reason, they seem to have mixed up arkansas for colorado. we go live to seoul, south korea. that's interesting, 30 miles from the border, where you are in south korea. what do you think? >> reporter: yeah, jamie, all part of the ongoing propaganda campaign by north korea. so far, we have seen no missile launch. t couple of days has been on diplomacy with secretary of state kerry in the region. he disbliz tokyo. he finished up a meeting with the japanese foreign minister. he has told pyongyang emphatically to back off the threats, including the threat to
8:02 am
launch. he says that the u.s. will defend itself and its allies in the region. but he did come down pretty hard on this, offered the possibility of a peaceful resolution of the crisis through negotiations. that is, as long as the north decides to give up its nukes. take a listen. >> woe are committed to take action together. we, japan, the united states and the other countries that i have met with in the last two days, are committed to make that goal of denuclearization a reality. >> reporter: the hitch is that north korea has shown no sign of giving up its nuclear program. sunday, the regime kim jong un rejected the calls, calling thel, quote, a cunning ploy, say that this u.s. should drop its own confrontational approach. meanwhile, that missile is set for a possible firing. the past few days, a u.s.
8:03 am
official has told us he does not feel a launch is imminent. but it is noted that rocket is mobile and could be quickly readied again. monday has been discussed as a possible target date for any firing. but we have learned that this birthday celebration for kim jong un will -- for kim. >> jamie:l-song will run two days. >> jamie: thank you. >> eric: jamie, the pentagon downplaying a defense intelligence agency report that claims that north korea may be capable of arming a missile with a small nuclear warhead that. would make a major achievement. but given the new propaganda video, pointing out u.s. targets,a what is the real threat to us? north korea has vowed to try to hit austin, texas, which is where we are joined by our next
8:04 am
guest in austin. republican michael mccall. comingman, welcome. >> thanks for having me. >> eric: first question. look, they say they are going to hit austin. their missile can get maybe 2500 miles. some would say, why should we worry? >> they don't have that capability to get past, say, guam. we know that. the reason they talk about austin, samsung's here, the largest foreign south korean investment in the united states. but that capability is want there. however, they are very dangerous. in the sense that we have 28,000 soldiers in south korea. they can strike our allies like japan with this capability. and so i think, the whole situation, needs to be taken seriously. it is. we have destroyers in the region. we have a b-2 stealth bomber and fighter plane that could set
8:05 am
down anything shot up in the sky. when i talk to the south korean ambassador, he explained it as a very sense of immaturity in the new leader, trying to prove himself with the new leaders of north korea. >> eric: we are looking at video. this is what they have released overnight of the missiles, it looks like a computer game, hitting l.a., hawaii, maybe colorado springs, but maybe they meant hot spring, they put arkansas where colorado should be. what does this mean? >> again, they don't have that capability to reach that far. so the viewing public shouldn't be concerned. but they do have nuclear capability and missile capability. and the pentagon has announced they do have the capability to launch that. i am the father of five kids. it's like your kid throwing a tantrum, do you spank them? put them in timeout or give them an ice cream cone?
8:06 am
we have to be careful, particularly with the negotiations. china is the key. i think the administration's pushing china's leverage, over north korea. but i would cawpgz against the six-party talks that we had last time and gave them at this time ice cream cone. we gave them foreign aid in exchange for their promise to stop building nuclear weapons, when in fact, they defied us and det mated three nuclear devices. we can't go down that path? we have given them ice cream koans for years. the deal for oil and food in the 90s and they violated that. congressman, how do we stop them now -- is that possible, at all? do we wait for them to fire the missile? lap -- >> when i met with the ambassador in south korea, he sent a very serious message through china to north korea. any strike on south korea would be met by full retaliatory
8:07 am
response. i think the united states should join in that response. it would give us an opportunity to take out their nuclear facilities, if it came to that. china is the only country with any diplomatic or economic tie to north korea. i will say one thing that has not been reported. the influence of iran here. after 1979, khomeini came to north korea and brokered a deal with north korea. ever sips that time, pakistan has been trying to build up each other's nuclear alliances as a win/win situation. we can't look at this in a vacuum, just north korea. they are very much tied part and parse welwhat is going on in iran. and iran is watching how the united states handle this is situation. so we have to be very, very -- i think very strong in what we do. >> eric: iran is violating the u.n. security council mandates on the uranium enrichments.
8:08 am
so really, are they operating on parallel paths in the sense that maybe north korea's seeing what will come first? and iran taking lessons on what they will do with their nuclear program? >> i think that's my judgment. iran is funding north korean's operations here. they are using north korea as a test to see how the united states will react. the more we try to negotiate and say, if you will stop what you are doing, we will throw more money at you, which is what they have done in the past, that's a good sign to iran that we will placate them as well. if that happen, the same thing that happened to north korea will happen to iran. they tell detonate nuclear devices. >> eric: we have tough sanctions. the u.n. and the u.s. has imposed them, the economy has suffered because of that. that has not been enough?
8:09 am
>> yeah, i think the sanctions are good. but the fact is, north korea's operating like an island, isolated on its own. the only country that has any leverage with them is china. i met with the ambassadors from south korea, the more pressure we put on china to -- to have them stop what they are doing and particularly -- the economic f. china would enforce u.n. sanctions, that would be a big deterrent because that would mean that that would impact north korea very heavily from an economic standpoint. but in light -- in lieu of that, i am not sure anything short ever a military retaliation is going to work. >> eric: congressman, china offers north korea most of its food and fuel. they can cut them off, but they are not doing that. it we thank you for your insight and analysis. later on in the hour, jamie will
8:10 am
have an interview with the former israeli ambassador to the united nations to give us his view of the iranian/north korean relationship. >> jamie: thanks. despite the growing tension, an international marathon went on as planned in north korea today. it's an event marking what would have been the 101st birthday of sung -- of kim il-song. if you are following this, the winning time was 2 hours, 13 minutes and 3 seconds. the senate is preparing to debate controversial new gun control legislation this week. some lawmakers got an early jump on it today, aproceduring on the -- appearing on the sunday shows. steve centanni took a look. >> reporter: one of the sponsors of that bill from pennsylvania says that it's an open question whether it will
8:11 am
pass. he predicts the vote will be very close. the vote is expected on wednesday t. greatly expands background checks for people buying guns, closing the so calmed gun loophole. opponents say any gun croyle measure impacts the second amendment trite bear arms. >> senator mansion and i are not interested or willing to support infringing the legitimate rights of law-abiding citizens. this is about whether or not it's reasonable to try to make it more difficult for dangerous people for whom it's already illegal to have weapons to obtain them. i think that's a very reasonable thing. >> reporter: opponents say background checks will not keep criminals from obtaining weapons. they say there needs to be a greater emphasis on mental health and violence in society. >> i am want for symbolism.
8:12 am
we can't pat ourselves on the back and say we will pass enhanced penalties for background check when is they don't cause the terrible problems that cause these tragedies. >> a similar measure could be unveiled this week in the house, where it would face significant opposition from republicans. >> thank you so much for us in washington. >> eric: jamie, we are following the continuing investigation into the shocking murders two of prosecutors in texas. eric williams williams is charged with making a terroristic threat in connection to that case. the district attorney and his wife were both shot to death inside their home, two mons after his assistant was gunned down outside of the kaufman county courthouse. we go live to los angeles with the latest. dominic, what is this about?
8:13 am
>> reporter: hey there. is he going to be charged today? that's the big question. 24 hour its ago, he was charged with making a terrorist threat. now we hear from the local media, he could be charged with killing those three people. but an fbi spokesman says no press conferences or press releases are expected to come today. williams is not formally charged and is not a formal suspect at this time. the fbi and other authorities are sifting through two stoinch units in texas and have turned williams' house upside down. they didn't say what they were looking for. but the evidence recovery team carried things out, including a white crown victoria. a raft of reasons have emerged toze why williams may have held a grudge. he was stripped of his status when he was convicted of thet and he was humiliated in a battle with mike mcclelland and called williams, a man
8:14 am
bereft of honor. and the assistant d.a. described him as evil,. williams' attorney's office says it has no further comment, other than he is isn't. the legal experts are saying it wouldn't be a surprise if he's charged. >> but there will have to be some sort of evidence that links mr. williams somehow to the crime scene t. could be as simple as a certain motive that he might have had. it was very up front in the interviews his lawyers did early on, saying he wasn't shocked that the law enforcement headed in his direction. >> reporter: one more development. in these killings, texas prosecutors are seeking to double the existing $200,000 reward, which is a sign that they are short on leads. eric, back to you. >> eric: dominic, thanks so much.
8:15 am
to the fox news voter fraud unit. there have been three guilty pleas in as many weeks for in the highest office of the land, the presidency. from the st. joseph county board of elections in south indiana. she pled guilty to fraud and forgery in the case that put president obama and hillary clinton on the ballot. she is the second election official to admit to election fraud. they are accused of faking the petigs that put obama and clinton on the ballot. so many names may have been forged that they have questioned that obama's team reached the legal number of legitimate signatures to qualify in the first place. but it wasn't caught during the election, so the signatures were never challenged and sailed right through. in the newt gingrich campaign last year, fake signatures were
8:16 am
challenged. that's why he failed to make the primary ballot there. a campaign worker has pled guilt tow faking names and another one faces charges. we will have updates and continuing coverage on this issue. if you go to voter fraud at foxnews.com or my twitter page. you can get the very latest. >> meantime, with the world's attention, focused on north korea, there is another hot spot that may have taken a back burner. it's iran. they have made some major moves to step up their nuclear ambitions, just this week. is north korea drawing away the attention that should be focused as well on iran? former israeli ambassador to the united nations will tell us his thoughts. he is here live. and how do you take charge and max the dollars you can get from your home? it doesn't matter if you are buying or selling or you want to spruce up the place and stay put. up next in my consumer

is climbing out of a huge hole. home values are up, borrowing rates are down and now may be the time to buy, sell or make improvems. in today's take charge consumer protection segment, great tips to help you maximize your home dollars. joining me on this, kendra todd is a real estate expert. thanks for joining us. >> thanks for having me. >> jamie: here's what i wanted to do in this segment. i want to help people get the best price on a house and i want to help them pull as much money out of their house at a time when housing prooses and the market is moving up. let's start with sellers. how do you get the most for your sales dollar when someone comes to buy? >> right now, it is really a sizzling seller's market. inventory is low. there are multiple offers on a lot of properties across the country. and my advice for sellers is, even though it's tempting to
8:22 am
trito price your home for a sale, maybe above that house down the road that sold above asking, don't do t. we have found when we price our sellers' homes more aggressively, lower, it creates a buyer frenzy. we end up getting twice the offers and we get a sales price that is higher than the initial purchase price that the seller wanted us to list in the first place. >> jamie: one suggestion is to help investors find what they are looking for. how do you figure that out? what generic changes can you make to raise it up in the market? >> well, gone are the days where big home improvements are going to help you sell your property for substantially more. right now, we recommend taking care of the little things, if there are minor electric or plumbing issue, spend a comp hundred bucks and get it taken care of so the home passes the inspection with flying colors.
8:23 am
the other thing we recommend is staging your home, declutter it, move furniture around, put up bright, beautiful picture, homes that are staged sell for 7% more and 80% faster. >> i bet lighting's important. if you are looking to buy a home, how do you out-bid the bidders? >> it's tough. that's a great question because cash is king and queen. but you still can beat a cash offer if you have to get financing. the way to do that is to put your strongest offer forward. and come with what is called a loan approval, instead of a pre-qualification letter. that means you have have been vetted by the lender, you have given your bank account and tax info. so you are showing the seller you can close quickly. if you are flexible on things like close date and if you don't ask for concessions, the sellers will like your offer.
8:24 am
they want a clean offer that can close quickly. those are the magic ingredients. >> jamie: we are so close to tax time. if you decide you are going to stay in your home, are there overlooked tax credits that can save you mony? >> there is a $500 energy tax credit that a lot of people don't realize they can take advantage of. if have you put an energy efficient air conditioning unit, that type of thing. so talk to your accountant about maybe some of the minor home improvements have you made or can make and how you can save monotax. >> jamie: fantastic at a time when the interest rates are still low, thank you so much. great to meet you. >> you too. my pleasure. >> jamie: if you want to get plor how to take charge on a number of consumer, it is really easy. click on the america's news headquarters payment for this show.

8:31 am
it's receiving far less attention than north korea. the most recent round of talks with the world powers is said to have gone nowhere with iran vowing it will never stop its nuclair program. so as the world is focused more on north korea, are we losing site of that danger from iran? certainly someone that isn't is the former israeli ambassador to the united nations, dan gillerman. we are lucky to have you here in the studio. >> great to see you. good to be with you. >> jamie: i know, every hour, you are thinking about it, following it. iran, a great threat to the world. but especially to israel. do you think it's possible that the narght koreans -- the north koreans are working with iran and this is a diversionary tactic? >> well, it's true that we are thinking about it every minute of every day. we are thinking about it especially today because today israel marks memorial day.
8:32 am
it marks the loss and mourns the loss of over 23,000 people until 65 years of fighting for its existence. and today is a very somber day, families went to the graveyards and that was there and is there, stronger than ever. we are watching what is happening with north korea, we are very concerned about iran because, you know, when you look at north korea, thumbing its nose at the world, threatening, not just its neighbor, south korea, but the united states. and in return, the secretary of state says that a nuclear north korea is unacceptable. it is nuclear already. i think in recent months, the most unacceptable word in the dictionary is unacceptable. what does it mean unacceptable when you are already nuclear isn't people who are watching it most closely and probably
8:33 am
cheered when they heard the press conference with the secretary of state saying, let's talk to the north koreans, they have been talking to the northern koreans for 10 years and the north koreans have developing the nuclear weapons, tested and are threatening to use it against the united states. what should the ayatollahs think? what is the message to them? >> jamie: what do you want the message to be? >> the main has to be that the united states is the leader of the free world and the world, should not tolerate rogue regimes and dictatorships with nuclear weapons. there is an opportunity today through north korea, which, as you pointed out, cooperates with iran, has supplied iran with some of its know-how and weaponry. north korea should be dealt with vigorously in no uncertain terms, should be made an example of because north korea is is
8:34 am
doing things which no other country in the world is dog -- >> jamie: except iran. if you feel the united states and other nations should not tolerate a now clear north korea and they are already nuclear, also you feel that iran already has nuclear weapons that they are not doing this for energy, then why is israel accepting a nuclear iran? why ?nt hasn't israel done what it has done in the past, take some of the plants out? >> israel has done in the past exactly what should be done today with the united states. it has not talked. it has acted. whenever there was an imminent threat against israel, whether it was from iraq or other place, according to foreign sources, when it was in syria, we didn't ask them to talk. we didn't say, let's go for dinner. we went out and eliminated it. >> jamie: but have you very strong feelings that it's the thaws should move forward in
8:35 am
this way. you feel that potentially, the countries should be -- these are your words from talking point it's wiped off the map? >> i think that if north korea continues on this course, it should be wiped off the face of the map. it would be an excellent message and a very clear one to the rest of the world and especially to the iranians. and one thing we must fall remember is that there is a huge difference between north korea and iran. while iran actually -- while north korea attained nuclear weapons out of desperation, iran is seeking them out of aspiration, aspiration to change civilization as we know it. the message to them should be very clear that the world will not allow it to happen. and north korea presents the world with an opportunity to send that message to iran. if nobody else does it, we doll t. we will not allow iran to
8:36 am
become nuclear. >> jamie: former israeli ambassador to the united nations, dan gillerman, have with a very strong message for countries who are accepting what is going o. thank you so much, sir. always great to have you here. safe travels to you. >> thank you, jamie. >> jamie: eric? >> eric: you know, the bluster and threats that the ambassador was talking about from north korea is continuing. 1950, they invaded their southern neighbor, causing the korean war. they have struck at the united states before. liz trotta covered it. for a look beyond the news, here's liz's sunday commentary. >> two days before christmas in 1968, the men of the uss peblo came home. the crew had been prisoners of north korea for 11 months. it was a freezing gray morning in the dmz, as one by one, they shuffled over the bridge of no return to the south. also in line, a coffin, bare

years after the end of the korean war, that country of quiet mad men has rattled us again, with more thanamerican ts the dmz, u.s. forces, function as the trip wire into chaos. they have been there since the end of the korean war in 1953, allowing kim jong un to indulge his passion for brinksmanship, as his fathers did before him. this raises the much-debated but never settled question of how much real or imagined lunacy we can tolerate. frankly, south korea's formidable army is seasoned enough to fight its own battles. our country can no longer afford military largess. based on a triumphant past. the seeds of north korea's periodic tantrums were sewn long

>> three core issues move to congress -- legislation on gub control, immigration reform and the federal budget are at center stage. but can lawmakers compromise on all three? we have the former political director under george w. bush is here and a former political adviser to new jersey senator frank lautenberg. welcome. matt, compromise doesn't seem to be very much in vogue in
8:46 am
washington. can they deal with the three issues and get anything meaningful done? >> getting the hat trick, eric, that's probably difficult. but one at a time, i think what president obama is doing, reaching out to the republicans, both in the house and the senate is smart. i mean, let's face t. everybody wants to sit around and have dinner with the president, especially if you near congress, and you are increasingly frusterated that, you know, you are not able to move the levers like you would like. to when it comes to the budget, the president needs to get a deal. the short-term skirmishing might have led to his re-election, but him looking back on on the presidency, he has to goat a deal to turn to the major pieces of legislation he wants to pass in the second term, like immigration reform. >> eric: it seems like the president has a high-wire act. he sits down and has dinner with republican senators and attacks
8:47 am
them on other issues. >> first of all, matt is right, the president does need to get the budget done to focus on other issues. i am skeptical that that will be accomplished because of the skirmish that you see constantly between the house of receipts, especially, and the president. but it's a carrot and a stick approach. george bush used the same thing. every president does, you initiate good will and then you use the bully pulpit as the fot hammer your opponent when is it doesn't work. that's where he is coming from. matt is right on the immigration reform, that's a priority not just for the president, but for the republicans as lafter the last election and they saw the way the wind is blowing that i think you will see progress on that and gun control, i am more skeptical and on the budget as well. >> eric: what dak we will see on immigration. >> both sides realize we need to get this done. most republicans realize that the future of their party
8:48 am
depends on not looking like xenophobes. we will see immigration reform. my question is what it will look like? rand paul says we will address it after the borders, without saying what the border metrix are, that's troubling because i don't know what a secure border means. does that mean 100%, zero peneration? i am know sure you will ever get that. i think both sides with good will are trying to accomplish something. they both understand, from political purposes, they need to accomplish comprehensive reform. >> eric: you think that will come sooner? >> i don't know if i agree that it's political reasons. i do think eric, we are on a pathway to get there. i think this has been done, almost got done before under president bush. i think there is a bipartisan feeling that we look at the 8 senators around the table to try
8:49 am
to hammer this out, the current system is broken, here's what the conservatives have to understand, the current situation is defacto amnesty, that people are flouting our borders and our laws. that has to stop. the system that marco rubio described earlier on your network is a system that would allow people to have an earned pathway to legal status, prevent them from receiving federal benefits and prevent them from cutting in line with people that have taken the appropriate legal courses to come to this country. i real think we can get there. i think there is great hope. but in order to get there, president obama has to reach his hand across the aisle, as he's trying to do in a less political way. my advice, by the way he doesn't listen to my advice -- is that he stands down on the harsh political rhetoric. the country doesn't want to hear that. let's talk about policy. >> eric: last word, can he tamp down the rhetoric?
