now. >> eric: she had been missing since 16. two others were helicopter captive in the home. amanda berry broke free with the help of a neighbor named charles ramsey that heard her screams and sprang into action. >> i looked. she is a girl and she is going nuts. i said are you stuck. i said open the door. and there it was only enough to close the door to reach the mail. to pry it open so we kicked open the bottom. luckily it was aluminum real cheap. she went to my house and called 911. >> eric: can you only imagine the joy by the family and friends of these three women. here is one of her friends.

>> her best friend and i was working the first day she went missing. we went out and had a smoke. we were going to party because it was her birthday and she never came home after she walked down the street. i never seen her again. i was waiting for her to come home for a long, long time. >> eric: can you imagine she has been missing for a decade and she has been held in captivity. >> kimberly: could i have picked something that help police find her. how could she abandoned. one of the mothers. victims deceased died after broken heart. the horror, the nightmare. and what is happening right under our nose. some of the inner city neighbors a lot of them have bars and that in and of itself wouldn't have

drawn attention or someone would have noticed it. >> eric: what do you think, bob? >> bob: there is too many unanswered questions. how for ten years do you stay hidden in a house and not have to go to a doctor's office and have a baby in the process. i don't know whether the three brothers lived together. greg says they may be married. y difficult story to understand. it's disgraceful. there are too many unanswered questions. >> eric: we'll get into the investigation. let's stay on what this is all about. dana, your thoughts. this has been unfolding all day. >> dana: i guess when i heard about it. most novels don't even end this well. so we can all be grateful for that. i thought about was the power of the human spirit and her courage to be able to keep fighting. she knew that she had been there ten years. she has been in the news for ten years. as she gets comfortable,

hopefully we'll hear more about the story to help us understand it. i wonder about the punishment for ariel castro and the brothers, i hope it is swift and i hope it hurts. >> eric: your thoughts. >> greg: she is dead amanda berry -- she died in 2004 according to sylvia brown. this is why -- we have to make a pact as americans to stop listening to psychics and stop using them and banish them to the local fair where they belong. she went on and told other people their children have died. it's disgting. >> dana: and died after broken heart. >> greg: so sylvia brown, they make me sick to my stomach and capitalize and sorrow of people. other thing that troubles me.

sad thing they weren't found by authorities. if it wasn't for a neighbor brian mcdonald they never would have been found. only time missing people are found in ohio is during election audits. [ laughter ] >> greg: these people were there for ten years. i know there is a time for rejoicing this is what happened. lastly, 911 calls. i don't understand why they are public and why we need to hear them. i think it dissuades people from making 911 kuaps. let's say you have a friend that has been drinking and as passed out. when did we decide 911 calls was our business. >> bob: police were there once because of a complaint. one of these guys were a bus driver and apparently left a child on a bus. >> eric: hang in there. we'll get into the investigation. >> bob: i got so many questions.

story. >> i was working for cnn then. i shouldn't say that. look, he said 560 people and this -- here is the thing i find amazing. if you keep these three women locked up in this house, this is conjecture and i don't care about that. i will bet you you will find a lot more people that saw those children in that house. >> eric: i heard at least earlier today one or two witnesses had seen ariel walking the daughter to school. he said my girlfriend's daughter. >> kimberly: people don't think right away there is something nefarious going on. there is a man, but you have to understand, the information we are getting, there were chained that 750 square foot basement and they are concealed from public view. also with the exterior of the house. this is why people didn't see

them. >> dana: if the brothers were involved, how warped was that family. three grown men can grow up and think this is okay. >> eric: how can they go ten years they are holding at least three or more women? >> bob: don't you think it's suspicious, it has boarded up windows. >> greg: it looks like your house, bob. >> brit: know my house ain't good. >> greg: the daughter of the alleged kidnapper that walked with gina the day she went missing. it's the relatives of these guys that are really -- you have to ask -- don't they have jobs. don't they go off to work at all. >> bob: one was a school bus driver. >> dana: you can't just walk into somebody's house because it's suspicious.

bob, if there were any other situation, if cops are going into people's houses because they had a aboard on the window. -- had a board on the window. >> eric: these are families members i believe. >> we're so thrilled it's unbelievable. i can't even believe this after all these years. right down from a from my grandmother's house. >> it's nothing short of a miracle from god. gina asked for her brother and sister and nieces, that they all lived with. she looks really healthy. >> she has been waiting. she has been waiting for her to come home and she came home. she knew who we were. she knew we were looking for all this time. >> eric: i call it a miracle, too. it is a miracle. three girls if not more who are

found alive and safe. did they go through a lot, yes, and was it horrible, yes, but this is great ending. >> deneen: wanted to ask kimberly advice from a former teacher. if you are a parent whose child is kidnapped and you are watching this story and you are keeping up that hope, how do you help counsel them so they don't have false hope, they can live their lives as well. that a concern. >> kimberly: you don't want the family members to give up. you want them to keep hope. you want them to be really involved in the investigation, continued to help provide clues, but at the same time it's like someone seeing a doctor or you don't want to give them all hope when they are not. it's a very delicate balance. >> bob: they had vigils for a couple of these women virtually every year.

i've been missing for ten years and i'm free now. three men have been arrested in this case. they are ariel castro, 52 years old. on brother, 54 years old and

another brother 50 years old. >> the real here is amanda. she is the real here hero. she is the one that got this rolling. we're following her lead. without her none of us would be here today. >> and the families the three young ladies never gave up hope and neither did law enforcement. as you can imagine, words can't describe the emotions being felt by all. yes, law enforcement professionals do cry. we rejoice with those families and homecoming of amanda, gina and michelle. >> kimberly: three women found alive after a decade in captivity. we want to see how this investigation is going to unfold and we're going report on what we know so far. when you see law enforcement at the residence and going through the house and doing a lot of forensic evidence collection to see if anybody was kept there.

how many people that knew about it. any accomplices, who was actually with these women at the time. you know, eric, right now, the main concern is going to be talking to these women and trying to therapeutic way talk to them. >> bob: the speculation has been even around this table whether or not this is just three guys. >> eric: doing whatever they were doing to them for the last ten years and the police brought the cadaver dogs out. they are searching the area. >> kimberly: you can see pictures right now in terms of what they are doing with the crime scene. was there anybody else. there are any other missing women and children from that area, that vicinity? they are going to work with other agencies if they can put any details together. this is unusual that they have three women that have been kept and then a child.

>> bob: what is it -- f.b.i., kidnapping is a federal offense. you get the investigation they were involved with the investigation for the last ten years. >> kimberly: potentially they have information of someone being transported over state lines and whether or not other people were abducted or missing. so the f.b.i. is going to come in and they have invaluable resources to do analysis and put a good significant amount of manpower and attention to details especially in a case like this. >> greg: when the f.b.i. said we never gave up hope. that didn't help. if it wasn't for a guy that came by for ten years and came by and saw the neighbor saw what was going on. the f.b.i. wasn't there. the thing is, people talk and bring up this stockholm syndrome they hammer away at captures is

because they grow to like them or become brainwashed. that a torture chamber or whatever is going on for ten years, under their noses not too far from where the people disappeared, i just think it is weird. >> dana: what is remarkable, amanda berry didn't give up hope. her spirit was alive and strong. what kind of punishment would they face if convicted. >> mike: for sure life without possibility of parole. they will stack the charges and make with a request that the charges run consecutively. they will never be able to get out. just on a basic kidnapping case -- they are alive unless, greg, base order the cadaver searches to find out if anything else happened there. were there any other children or other criminal activity that went on. perhaps they are going to find bodies. we don't know yet.

♪ ♪ ♪ ♪ >> greg: so, three key witnesses are about to testify regarding the attack in benghazi. one question remains -- who the hell cares? really. it happened such a long time ago and what difference does it make. what kind of story merits examination. the thing is benghazi isn't complex, it's very simple. people needed help on 9/11. they were denied. four people died. the government falsely blamed a video. you can't get any easier than that. that is scandal 101, even howie

could follow it and he is an idiot. especially compared to watergate people lied, benghazi, the president chilled after people were killed. wouldn't that merit hard hitting reporting on par with watergate. maybe if it were republicans involved, not obama. since the media gatekeepers have so much invested in the president it reflects their poor choices. they are itself parents in the grand stand bliag the ump when it's their son. they are the guy that holds on to your drugs. which is why when obama was to falsely push a video no one cared. you can ask all the questions but if the media decides it's not as interesting as v plain plain. those questions are irrelevant. the only punishment they have to live live with themselves which might be punishment enough. >> so kimberly.

i want to go to you first. how do you think it is going to go. >> kimberly: i hope people pay attention to it. there are reports we are getting preliminary reports show that there is a quite a bit of information that they were not forthcoming with. that there was very, very significant editing of the talking points. that is what we have seen so far. there is going to have to be questions answered and who is going to ultimately take the fall for this responsibility. hillary clinton is no longer in that position but with high aspirations for 2016, that is i think is going to be biggest fallout from this. >> greg: ironically, bob, obama might not only prevented from hillary becoming president from 2008 but also 2016. >> bob: good point. if i could ask to step back. you have three people to testify tomorrow. they will be asked a lot of

questions. my question is, what is doing this, purely doing it. he thought it was the wrong thing to do. why wasn't it done earlier? before we start throwing accusations about the president of united states, we ought to see what comes out. >> greg: if this was centered around obama and involved in the questioning, you would be pretty stoked. >> bob: i'm a partisan. >> greg: that is what i love about you. eric, what do you see happening? is administration's story is falling apart. >> eric: i don't want to say that and unload after the hearings. obama slipped through the terror attack on benghazi. he slept through the 3:00 a.m. wake-up call. he flew to vegas on fund-raiser 1. he delivered his thing and then the campaign told him, don't worry. what happens in benghazi stays in benghazi and it didn't because we will find out what

happened. isn't it interesting -- though seven months or eight months ago that was a long time ago. for the last five years, it's been bush's fault. eight months is too long ago. >> greg: dana, anybody will ask who pushed the video? >> dana: you said in the monologue it was valerie plame. >> you are going to be editing the talking points. they edited the facts of the community assessment to make talking points for themselves. >> bob: that is the number one question. if that is case. these talking points get handled by a lot of different agencies. if they altered the facts in the talking points, then somebody is in deep trouble. if they edited it as normally through a government process, they didn't want this out. they want that piece out.

daughter of one of these guys? >> eric: castro's daughter. >> dana: daughter of the cleveland suspect, in 2007 the accused daughter emily castro treo slashed a woman's throat and serving a 35 year sentence. she suffered serious depression and spiraled into pair noah and prosecutors argued they broke with the father after the attack. >> bob: we are joined fortunately and gets them right. greta van susteren, are you with us? >> greta: i am with you. >> bob: tell us what you learned out there. it is hard to keep up with stories. >> greta: what is so strange all the neighbors, nobody knew anything about the guy. they thought the home was abandoned and periodically he

would mow the lawn but they had no idea any idea was living there. you can see over my shoulder the crime scene a van is here. grismt were all dressed in white. a little like they were dressed in hazmat suits. dressed in these white suits from head to toe in order to prevent them from contaminating the scene. there have been dogs inside and going over with a fine-tooth comb. all we know the women will be that were in there, i would not be surprised they would try to dig up the basement. the stunning thing is nobody knew. how could no one know? those of details we are trying to get information about. maybe the women were tied out. maybe they were gagged. just think about it -- ten years that the three of them were kept. the other interesting thing is we just got back from going to the three different scenes where the three adult women were

picked up. one was burger king and one was a middle school three blocks away from the middle school. they were all picked up in broad daylight in a relatively nice area. it was so close to each other. i'm going to troll a nice area where middle school and burger king. it looks like any street in america. i would never feel the least bit at risk. yet, three women were held for ten years. it's unthinkable, isn't it? >> bob: unbelievable. >> kimberly: i just wanted to ask you, are you we hearing from the investigators as to whether or not they were trying to put the cases together. because of a similar, m.o. daylight abductions, the ages of the women whether they might have been related especially considering the close proximity of the abductions? >> greta: we don't have that yet. you would look back and see

there is a lot of things tied together. we are much more sophisticated in investigations and law enforcement when you tie things to go. one of three was much younger. she was in the seventh grade at the time she was snatched. she was also a student in the special education program at school. she may be sort of a different profile than the other two who were nabbed on a street. you would expect it. in 20/20 hindsight, why didn't someone see this? in this community they were all looking but they couldn't find them. >> eric: on these three guys, do we know all three of them lived in the residence or just ariel -- his name is on the mortgage. but what about pedro and the other castro? >> i don't think anyone lived there except for the three women. we talked to a neighbor who had known ariel for 22 years.

he was a young kid when he moved in or when he bought the home. this kid who has known him for 22 years must be 30 something, he said he didn't think he lived there. he would come in and he would visit the place and care for. he sort of suspected he was waiting houses come bumping back up and make some money. he never saw the two brothers living there. do you ever have conversation with them. he said yes, he said look, he was a nice guy. he was a normal guy. there was nothing i felt was out of the ordinary. he is about 30 years old now but he met him when he was a young child. at the time he thought he was a nice guy. >> dana: when will the charges be made against these individuals? >> greta: i suspect very soon, i on don't know the state rules in ohio but you can't dwayne anyone you have to do, if you are going

to hold someone you have to lodge charges on them and have a bond hearing. kimberly can tell me better than that. you tell me. you are the former prosecutor. >> kimberly: what you say is absolutely correct, of course. they can file something they can stick a heavy charge to keep them in custody while they continued this investigation which is pretty obvious. kidnapping charges is going to be the hammer without life without parole. >> greg: i was wondering, you have to imagine there probably were others, don't you think? >> greta: that is why they are being very aggressive in the house. they suspect there are others. yes, you have to have suspicions someone kidnapped one person and you find three in the basement in the house, you grow more suspicious. i suspect it. i think there will be a lot more charges than three different kidnapping charges i'm also

suspicious but that there will be assault charges. the interesting thing, you kidnap a person, kidnap one person, that is one kidnapping charge. help me on this. if you hold that person for ten years, is that only one kidnapping charge? probably, so you have to find other charges someone kidnapped for one day is not the same thing as kidnapping for ten years. those are different crimes. i think they will be looking at criminal code trying to figure out what to do. >> kimberly: they will do that. they will stack charges and go with the top charges with the individuals and then look at aggravated assault charges and weapons enhance answer. and period of time. there is a quite a number of charges that will come into play even based on the facts we know. >> bob: we're going to have take a break here. greta, can you stay with us the next block. >> greta: yeah. >> bob: more with greta when we come back.

three women were found. greta, i understand you talked to neighbors they did call to police over the years? >> greta: that is what we're hearing, they would call and one even said they spotted a baby at one time but the police never showed up. that is what is being said on the streets. we're going dig around a little more and by 10:00 p.m. we have more information. if you can look over my shoulder i hope you can see the f.b.i. and the investigators coming out. periodically you will see and set something down on the table. we would love to get closer and see what it is. they have refreshments there because it is hot here in cleveland. you can see the f.b.i. are still in their combing the place. >> bob: you did a remarkable job covering the o.j. simpson case, i remember you saying you raised questions about the police work around that whole investigation. do we think the police initially

are getting a pass when they say they were actively involved for ten years stq that something we can bite in to? >> greta: i feel bad for bad for the police when i have three people showing up after ten years. i have some sympathy for them. if they ignored calls to the home, that is a different picture. they need to talk to neighbors. this is not a rich neighborhood. this is not a neighborhood with a lot of resources. sometimes people think some of these neighborhoods get ignored by the police. i don't know if it happens here. some people are feeling a little bit like this is ignored. the other thing, too, is when teenagers disappear, some people think they are runaways, they get mad at the family and take off. the one that was in seventh grade and was in special programs. that is a different story. i don't know how aggressively they looked for her.

>> eric: just making a point, michelle was the oldest and was kidnapped first the next one was 16-year-old amanda berry and then gina, 14. it's creepy as it sounds, they are kidnapping younger and younger women. >> greta: and all in the same area. that is the other interesting thing. within half a mile, all three -- like trolled a particular area. we don't know how many. maybe he was trolling every night. i don't know about that. he was going younger, indeed. but he stop at those three? we don't know what the investigators have found in the house behind us. there is lot more to be determined about this story. that is one of the reasons we're here on the ground, tonight by 10:00 we hope to have more facts. this is so weird and so peculiar. how does this happen with the three children are kept captive
