counts of rape. prosecutors say they may seek the death penalty if they decide to bring aggravated murder charges. the charges would be in connection to reports by one of his alleged victims, michelle knight, who says she got pregnant five times but castro made her miscarry by starving her and punching her in the belly. during his brief arraignment, castro didn't speak or enter a plea, but relatives of castro's late ex-wife are revealing chilling, new details about his violent history. the sister of gramilla figaroo was on the stand and described him as a monster. >> after she had anthony, he was abusive towards her. she would smack her around and one time he pushed her in a box, don't know why. i was really young at the time. i saw him pushing her into the box, locking the flaps out of the box. it was a cardboard box. it was a dirty, old cardboard box. and he told her, you stay in there until i tell you to get

out. >> alita caraballo says castro also savagely beat her sister, shoving her down the stairs, breaking her nose and dislocating her shoulder, among other injuries. she also claimed castro kept her imprisoned and prevented her from using the phone. she died last year and castro's daughter arlene was friends with gina dejesus and one of the last to see her before she disappeared. appearing on abc's "good morning america" yesterday, arlene apologized to all three women, especially to gina, who she says she hopes to see soon so she can meet her children. and castro's mother, lillian rodriguez, spoke to reporters outside of another son's home. speaking in spanish, she said her son is a sick man. [ speaking spanish ]

>> now, this morning, we are also learning how the victims are coping. michelle knight reuniting with her first family member since being freed. she embraced her twin brother for the first time yesterday. he says they hugged but didn't talk about any of the bad stuff. and on gina dejesus's first night home wednesday, we're told she was scared to be alone or in a bedroom like she had been kept in for much of her captivity. and in honor of those victims, last night dozens gathered for a vigil not far from that house of horrors. they released balloons, especially in honor of michelle knight to let her know she was never forgotten. patti ann, ainsley? >> thanks so much, marianne. hard to hear this morning. >> yeah. and it's time now for your "five at 5:00," the top five stories making news at this hour. boston's top cop says his people had no idea that russian authorities had concerns about the marathon bombing suspect,

tamerlan tsarnaev, prior to the attack. communication or lack thereof was at the center of testimony at hearings thursday on capitol hill. >> we have three detectives and a sergeant who are assigned to the joint terrorism task force. one of my detectives is actually in the squad that investigated that. we have access to all the databases, but we were not, in fact, informed of that particular development. >> commissioner davis acknowledged that police might not have uncovered or disrupted the plot even if they had fully investigated the family of tamerlan tsarnaev based on those warnings. we are one step closer to justice for the suspected shooter, who you see here, in the ft. hood massacre. a military judge to delay major nidal hasan's court-martial to september 1st. his lawyers claimed jurors might be influenced by the media coverage of the boston bombings. jury selection will still begin on may 30th. testimony will start july 1st.

hasan faces the death penalty or life in prison without parole. the massacre left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded. a british olympic gold medalist was killed after his sailboat capsized in san francisco bay. 36-year-old andrew simpson and his team were practicing for the americas cup race this summer. the boat trapped him under the water for ten minutes. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. >> a shocking experience to go through, and we have a lot to deal with in the next few days in terms of assuring everybody's wellbeing. >> one other crew member suffered minor injuries. well, it was supposed to be the first day of jodi arias's sentencing hearing, but that hearing was suddenly postponed yesterday without any given reason. the hearing now rescheduled for this coming wednesday. right now, arias is under a suicide watch after being convicted of murdering travis alexander, her ex-boyfriend. arias has said that she wants

the death penalty. lady liberty will be back open in time for the fourth of july. superstorm sandy wreaked havoc on the site last october. it brought water up to 8 feet on liberty island. well, fortunately, the statue itself sits on high ground and was not damaged, but the popular tourist attraction has been closed ever since sandy. well, tickets are now on sale. and that is your "five at 5:00." new calls this morning for former secretary of state hillary clinton to provide more information on the benghazi terror attack after the explosive testimony from the whistle-blowers. and house speaker john boehner now urging the obama administration to release those e-mails about the attack. elizabeth prann is live in washington. good morning, elizabeth. >> good morning, ainsley. well, the push for more information into the terrorist attacks in benghazi, libya, on september 11th, certainly didn't end on wednesday. house speaker john boehner is now demanding the white house order the state department to release e-mails about the attack. he says the public should have

access to those conversations and that they have the right to learn more about the administration's early public comments that the assault was a result of spontaneous demonstrations. >> she had told the libyan ambassador that the attack was conducted by islamic terrorists. the state department would not allow our committees to keep copies of this e-mail when it was reviewed, and i would call on the president to order the state department to release this e-mail so that the american people can see it. >> now, in response, the state department is agreeing to work with speaker boehner and other lawmakers on capitol hill, even though administration officials say they didn't feel anything new was released during the six-hour congressional hearing on wednesday. >> some of these issues were sort of high up by some, whether it's in the media or on capitol hill, as new information, but we see that we had a thorough and credible arb investigation. they told some stories that

were, again, very personal about their experiences. but in terms of adding new information about what occurred, that's not what we saw transpire. >> reporter: now, a blast from administration's past also appearing yesterday. former vice president dick cheney was on the hill speaking with house republicans, telling them, just like south carolina senator lindsey graham, he thinks then secretary of state hillary clinton should be "subpoenaed," if necessary, for more information. ainsley, back to you. >> fascinating. we're dying to see what is in those e-mails. thanks so much, elizabeth prann live for us in washington. patti ann? for more headlines now, the search continues for two passengers who fell overboard from a carnival cruise ship. surveillance video shows the couple falling off the ship wednesday night before it docked in sydney. the australian couple has been identified as 30-year-old paul rothington and 27-year-old kristen schroeder. it is not clear, though, from the video if they fell by accident or jumped. it sounds like the plot of a movie. a $45 million cyber heist hit

banks in more than 20 countries. elvis rafael rodriguez and ambir yasser yajae are two of seven arrested in the new york branch of this attack, which stole $3 million of the total amount. overseas, hackers stole bank data and created fake debit cards, sending them to crews all around the world. altogether, more than 40,000 transactions were made during two separate heists in december and in february. millions more in taxpayer money is going to be spent to promote obama care. health and human services secretary kathleen sebelius has announced that $150 million will be spent to teach people how to enroll in obama care exchanges. democratic senator max baucus, who helped write the health care law, has criticized the implementation of it. he says he sees a train wreck coming. it's time now to "brew on this," and it's friday, so that

to feelings of manic joy. researchers say the overall risk of flu-related bipolar remained lower. only a 3% to 4% increased chance that a child will develop the disorder. expectant mothers are advised to get a seasonal flu vaccination to reduce their chances of catching the virus. also this morning, a whole new meaning to young at heart. scientists have discovered a protein that can actually turn hearts younger. as adults get older, their hearts grow larger and the walls thicken, often to leading to heart failure, but this breakthrough discovery could reverse aging within 30 days, turning old hearts young again. the study is currently being done on mice, but researchers estimate four to five more years of testing and research still needs to be done before clinical trials could begin on humans. and we've been using it for years to help fight off germs and bacteria, but now the fda plans to review antibacterial soap to determine if it is ineffective or even harmful. the german-killing ingredient in question, triclosan, is found in

recover them for a few hundred bucks. ainsley? >> okay, thanks, patti ann. the accused cleveland kidnapper, ariel castro, has now been charged with four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape, but we're also learning this morning that he could be facing the death penalty. here to break all of this down for us is our criminal defense attorney and fox news contributor arthur idalia. good morning. good to see you. >> good morning. what a horrible, horrible case. >> yeah, well, michelle knight has come out and said she was pregnant five times. he kicked her in the stomach so many times, was starving her so she would lose these babies. she had five miscarriages, she said, and now as a result, they're tacking on more charges and considering giving him the death penalty for five murders. >> right, so it's an interesting area of the law that varies state to state about whether you can -- it's a murder if a child isn't born alive, et cetera, et cetera, but the prosecutor's on the record as saying they are looking at all of those circumstances. it's all going to be eyewitness

testimony, right, by the three young women. and if they can reach the requirements, the elements, that's what you call, for murder, which is the intentional killing of a person -- >> then done, right? >> -- then done. >> she says it was intentional. >> as we were saying a couple minutes ago, why would you want to give this man the luxury of a peaceful death? the torture. you know, ainsley, you want to talk about jodi arias, you want to talk about casey anthony, you want to talk about all of these people that have been in the headlines, o.j. simpson, even. those are evil acts that took place in a relatively small window of time. these evil acts took place over days, weeks, years, a decade! this guy is a guy who deserves to be put in a little box by himself and just not leave. i mean, by the supreme court ruling, you can't have cruel and unusual punishment, so he's got to be able to see the sun, although he didn't allow those girls to see the sun, barely.

tamerlan tsarnaev was secretly buried in an undisclosed location outside worcester, massachusetts. police confirming the bomber's body is no longer in the city and has been entombed. the question of what to do with tamerlan's remains had sparked outrage around the boston area. we've been telling you about former terrorist teacher. turns out she is not the only former terrorist turned teacher. a new report shows nearly a dozen domestic terrorists are now professors. former underground members make up half of the list, including bill airs, who taught at the university of illinois. meanwhile, a texas student is making headlines this morning for lecturing his teacher. >> you want kids to come into your class, you want them to get excited for this? you've got to come in here, you've got to make them excited. you've got to take this job seriously. this is the future of this nation, but this is my country's future and my education.

43 after the hour. time to span the globe. first to australia. the search continues this morning for two passengers who fell overboard from a carnival cruise ship. surveillance video shows the couple falling off the ship wednesday night one at a time before it docked in sydney. it is not clear if they jumped or fell by accident. and to mexico. an entire city is buried in volcanic ash. the volcano erupted for eight hours. high winds spread the ash across the central part of the country, leaving roads, buildings and cars completely coated. ainsley? thanks, patti ann. they didn't use guns or masks, but they did manage to steal more than $40 million from thousands of atms in just a matter of a few hours. diane maceda from the fox business network has the story for us. good morning, diane. >> hi, ainsley. federal authorities say an international gang of bank cyber thieves managed to steal $45 million, as you said, in just a

matter of hours, ditching the usual guns and masks for laptops and the internet. an unsealed, four-count indictment shows in new york city alone, eight members are charged with stealing roughly $2.4 million from nearly 3,000 atms in just one of the strikes. brooklyn u.s. attorney loretta lynch says "moving as swiftly as data over the internet, the organization worked its way from the computer systems of international corporations to the streets of new york city with the defendants fanning out across manhattan to steal millions of dollars from hundreds of atms." now, the scheme's known as unlimited operations for their potentially unlimited proceeds, involved hacking into credit card processor computer systems, stealing information from prepaid debit card accounts and removing the limits to their balances, allowing criminals to withdraw unlimited amounts from atms. they allegedly targeted prepaid mastercard debit cards issued by arab emirates bank, known as
