put a spy system in, this idea of standing on principle to say we won't recognize this nation because they're hostile to us, that or the other, when in fact if you could spend money, put an embassy in there and get a spy system in there that benefits us, i'm for spending that money if it's going to benefit us. if it's not going to benefit us, don't do it. >> julie, we spend between $1 and $2 billion to pakistan but pakistan was housing one of the worst criminals in the history of the world, osama bin laden. what are we getting for this money? >> i guess we're getting cooperation. you know who would be really bummed about your plan, the israelis. the only way the egyptians are cooperating with the camp david peace accords, because we're funding them or bribing them into sort of good behavior with the border with israel. so i'm with wayne. where we can bribe for lack of a better word people to be on our side, i'm all for it. >> jonathan, we're going to send a billion or so over to egypt, we're sending them f-16s. we're writing checks. we're broke.

we're sending money there, yet the leader of egypt is a muslim brotherhood graduate. >> yeah, i mean our foreign policy, eric, is not just bad economics, it's suicidal. the role of government is to protect americans, it's not to promote opportunity or to appease the muslims. that's exactly what we're doing. hundreds of millions of dollars to the muslim brotherhood? it's like we didn't learn our lessons from iran in 1979. why do we even have embassies and consulates in countries that are openly antagonistic towards the western and american ideals. you know what we should do for our enemies? we should bomb them and eliminate them. then go home. >> we all know how these guys work. wayne is right. this is the way it works in certain countries. they need to be bribed in order for us to gather intel. >> look at good it's working. >> this is endemic of the entire administration that we consistently throw money at stuff and we get no bang for our buck. this happens here at home, this happens overseas.

no one is thinking, well, like a business. money is not working in certain countries. >> to your point, tracy, the iraq debacle was not this administration, but i will say this. again, yeah, it is working because of the example i used earlier. the egyptians would not be cooperating with israel and hamas. they wouldn't be abiding by the camp david peace accords if we didn't invest in them. i'm using invest loosely, translation, bribe them. >> wayne, we spend somewhere between -- we put a $21 billion number up there. i think it's far north of $21 billion when you think of all the money we spend through the fbi and the cia. wayne, when americans die overseas, should we be cutting back on this aid? >> no, i don't think -- it comes back to what i said before, eric. it's how you spend that money. if it's being used for the interest of the good ole usa, if it's perpetuating our strongest

if you click it, should you be taxed for it? the senate passing a bill paving the way for states to collect sales tax on online purchases. they say brick and mortar stores collect sales tax so why shouldn't online retailers also. jonathan, just another tax. is this fair? >> it's not only unfair, eric, but it's destructive to the economy. i mean freedom creates wealth and force, which taxes are, destroys it. this is simply the government taking more of your money. it's more regulatory costs and expenses for retailers. it makes trade harder, it makes trade more expensive. how does that help anyone except the big spending government. we've only had a sales tax in this country basically since 1930. rather than adding new taxes, why not take them away from the bricks and mortar stores and let the economy thrive and fly.

>> i struggle with this one because i do not agree with adding one single additional tax to this economy. >> what about the kids? >> if i'm barnes & noble, brick and mortar, it annoys me that you can go onto the website and get a break. so where is the equality there? look, i worry about this, though, because you get the states collecting sales tax from other states, what else are they going to start collecting. you're opening a whole can of worms with this. >> what about it, wayne? jonathan says eliminate the sales tax for brick and mortar. what do you say? >> well, that's fine for jonathan to say that, but why not eliminate the income tax and have a national sales tax. that would be a better idea. so when you're doing -- when you're explaining it, it's much more complicated than this. this has to be a level playing field. you cannot have tax on one and not tax the other. >> there's 9600 different tax jurisdictions in america, 565 indian reservations, almost 10,000 -- over 10,000 different jurisdictions that small businesses probably would fold

having to deal with all that bureaucracy. >> well, small businesses are not on the internet, right? they're small mom and pop stores. >> huh? small businesses are not on the internet? >> the road that you drove to get to the studio today, who's paying for that? how are you going to fund basic components of government? roads. the reason i'm staying on this and the reason i made that point is because if you exclude certain people from the sales tax but you include other people in it, the only option is to put those other people who are paying it out of business or eliminate the sales tax as jonathan said altogether. in which case i don't know how states will function and provide even basic services like roads. >> hold on, tracy. here's the way it would work out. the big internet retailers, they're actually okay with it. it's the small ones that aren't. they are the ones that have to deal with it. >> rightfully so. first there's a million dollar cutoff. a million or less you don't have
