white house? >> ladies and gentlemen, governor mick -- mike huckabee. >> thank you very much. we have a great crowd here in new yorkab for mother's day weekend. and welcome tot huckabee from the fox news studios in new york city. all right, on monday, i said on my radio show that i believe that the lies and coverups regarding what happened in benghazi last september 11th could bring an end to barack obama's presidency. i compared it to watergate. that's in president brought down by deception and a methodical attempt to cover the deception. i wasn't saying that for dramatic effect or for rhetorical hyperbole. as a recognition that americans will forgive its leaders for mistakes, even serious mistakes but not

for intentionally cunningly and repeatedly lying to them and then attempting to cover the lies. the deception of the truth add deflexion from the truth ends in defection of the people. i was joined g by former u.n. ambassador john handling of the fiasco happen long ago which doesn't matter. i see it as it a serious threat to the office of the president. among those who reacted were among those who o suggested i wanted those out of office. anybody who says that doesn't know me very well. i don't care much for the policies of this president. but i genuinely don't want him to be forced from office. because it's not good for the country. but some of the president's strockest acolytes continue to sing the chorus that we learn nothing from the testimony of the courageous

whistle blowers. most of the democrats in congress circle the wagons and attack the witnesses rather than demanding honest answers of theos administration. but we did learn things from the testimony. we learned that officials, including hillary clinton, knew from the first evening that this was a planned and orchestrated attack by islamic terrorists and it was not a spontaneous mob reacting to a youtube video. we learned that multiple orders were given to the military to stand down from a rescue operation.e we learned that our second in command in libya was told not to cooperate with house investigators and was demoted to a desk job when he did. we learned that the so-called accountability review board often referenced by the white house and state department to exonerate president obama and hillary clinton never even called key witnesses. and didn't have a stenographer present during questioning. we found out that the the security force was reduced from 30 people to six during the months preceding the attack and while

ambassador stevens was begging for more security, we learned that above a certain level or rank or office, no one was held accountable. we learned thatg talking points that were drafted and crafted to explain it all away were changed 11 times with 12 different versions. we learned that the libyan government was so offended that we had contradicted their report of this as a terrorist attack that it delayed the fbi being allowed in to investigate for over two weeks. and most sadly, we learned that our people in libya begged for help and we instead abandoned them. we went from a policy of no man left behind to one oft no excuse left alone. democrats of course screamed that the concerns are nothing more than a partisan witch-hunt trying to take political advantage of a crisis. after tucson, aurora, sandy hook, and boston. and we know that the

democrats would never try to take advantage of a tragedy and play politics with it. this isn't about being able to blame somebody for a tragedy. this is about whether we canit have a government if it loses so much. [ applause ] joining me mow now is retired lieutenant general jay boy kin, one of the original members of the delta force. he also commanded the army's green beret. he has participated in clandestined operations all over the world and nobody knows more about special operations. general boykin special operation 700 special operations veterans asking the house to form a special select committee on benghazi. also with us today former state department senior advisor during the bush administration and author of the forthcoming book smart power between

diplomacy and war, christian whiten. [ applause ] general, i want to get right to a burning question the administration and military officials including chairman of theta joint chiefs said there were no assets that could have been moved in place for a rescue operation to at least intervened. is that a realistic, honest and plausible answer? >> governor, i don't believe so. you know, we created the delta force seal team 6 back in the early '70s and early '80s to respond to this thing kind of thing. in early '90s extremist forces in theater and primary target was embassies then we have the six fleet out in the mediterranean. and we have a variety of other assets all across the southern to say we couldn't respond, i find incredible. shame on us but i don't believe that. >> some of the answers were that might have put these

folks in danger. i thoug that's what they trade to do was to go into danger. >> governor, when we stood these forces up, he they were designed to rescue people, we knew that we would never have all the intelligence we need. we knew wew would go at a higher risk it was an issue of american values. it was the value of never leaving a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy. when you are under attack, we are going to be there. that was the whole point of it to say we didn't know enough. i don't buy. that is incrediblenned a someone needs to be taken to task over that. >> mike: realistic how likely on theut ground offer overred when he f-16 low altitude to scare the daylights out of somebody. how likely would that have taken in benghazi. >> governor, i think first of all we could have gotten an aircraft there probably in three to four hours. and that certainly would have helped with the second attack. now to get boots on the

ground, i think we could have gotten them there in five or six hours. if we had really scrambled, thrown caution to the wind and made all out effort to get boots on the ground to save these people and if we couldn't save them to bring their bodies home. talk about the department. embassy is under attack. who makes the call to the military to say help us. come get us. do something? >> well, primary lay military decision there are only two civilians in the chain of command the president and the secretary of defense. you have something called chief of mission authority where the ambassador in a country is the head of all u.s. government employees there. of course that chief of mission was incapacitated and his deputy was denied permission to act. really breakdown from the beginning. we don't really know who gave those standdown orders although all the arrows seem to be getting closer and closer to the obama white house. >> are you concerned there is concerted effort to make this seem like it was

unfortunate incident and that nobody really is responsible that it was just one of those days that everything went wrong? >> well, sure, if you look at jay cancery's performance yesterday, the white house spokesman where he explained away how, you know, talking points that said this was terrorism, this washe ansar al sharia, al qaeda affiliate in libya. this was clearly an attack on america's ambassador by terrorists islamist. how he tried explain that away. clearly there is a coverup here clearly just a fiction being written hopefully is catching on to it though. >> talk about what probably happens within the state department and the people who work there when they see people above them running for cover t and essentially saying if there was any blame it's those folks down there at the lower levels. does that lessen the confidence of people in our state department and makehe them think hey, i'm on my own down here? >> i think is it's interesting, if you look at people like mr. hix testifying before congress.

these are not people whom you would presume to be hostile to the obama administration. the foreign service, the career guild of diplomats that exist at the state department is naturally democratic and left-leaning. these people never thought they would be at a hearing that is making a democratic administration squirm. so to take that step, they really feel upset. they really feel they are being thrown under the bus by politicos at the white house. >> when we come back, i want to talk to you more about what we can expect to see enfouled over the next few months and perhaps even years. this could be a while before all the layers of the onion come forth. general and christian, stay with us. we'll be right back with with more. >> back with general boykin and state department official. they were told to stand down and not to go in. who has the authority to tell that contingent to stand down and how high up is that order to have come from? >> that's why we need more hearings, governor. first of all, the order to actually engage troops in a rescue operation has to come from the president unless it's a military facility and then the commander has certain authorities. but it has to come from the president to put troops in harm's way. now, in that case, because we don't know enough of the details, that could have come from the commander of the africa command that told them to stand down but play that all the way out. who told him not a to allow them to. this hearing and i applaud mr. issa, but this hearing has left us with an awful lot of questions that have to be answered in subsequent hearings because the question you asked is a question that needs to be answered by a responsible

people. and christian, if these reque benghazi and also out of tripoli because that's where mr. hicks was saying, you know, we want to go, his response was that personnel there wanted to be turned loose to go and do what they could and when they were told theyne could not, they were furious. does that sort of indicate what your experience is with people who are career foreign service people that when it comes down to it, they are americans first and their ideology goes out the window. >> i think certainly. if you look at. so comments, some the military folks, the cia folks were highly impressed that the diplomats were willing to take risk to help rescue or comrades this was shocking. where did it come from? if you look back at the white house in particular, dennis mcdonough who is now the white house chief of staff was at that time the deputy of the national security council pulled together a meeting along with bin roads and others which is probably where

this -- i think we don't have the proof yet, we need to get it but d where some of these very bad and dangerous decisions were made and where the coverup really had its genesis. >> governor huckabee: we don't know where the president really was. he had one phone call that night. no photos of him in the situation room. no indication, no even white house official coming and saying the president was monitoring this from the situation room from the oval office or even from the residence. we have no idea. what his engagement and involvement was. now,o general, a lot of accusations have come from democrats saying that this is all about politics just tomorrow bare was the president. you are a military guy. and you led an effort 700 special forces people to sign a letter. was that a political statement on your part and those of the 700 special forces individuals? >> no. governor, it wasn't. these people are people that spent their military careers preparingo, for and and launching operations to

rescue americans or to recover their bodies. it only took us a few days to get those 700 retired and former specials operations people because their passion runs deep. there is no way that we could have watched four diplomats die without launching a military attack unless something broke down in the system and i think what we'll find ultimately decision-making process broke down. we feel passionately about it. we don't care about the memo that was changed. we don't care about what susan rice said. what we care about is why did we leave four americans on their own? there was a message to every man, woman in the future that we put into harm's way that if you get in a tight spot. >> we're not going to comeha and get you. remember this,f at the couple is ier isman said to melissa grant i knew wherever i was was you thought of me and if i got

a tight spot you would come in i was alive. >> i understand there is a loft anger in the intelligence community feeling like they have been in essence blamed for everything from them rewrite of the memos cop. s this mean that at some point they are going to break their silence come forward and start telling the story because they wante to preserve their honor and dignity? these cia guys who i respect so much because they put their lives on the line. they risk everything. and they don't get the opportunity to go home and tell their families whates they have done for america today. they are being blamed for all of this.un will some of them start breaking and telling their stories? >> i think the the next set of hearings need to start bringing in some of the military people as well as some of the cia people and ask these questions like youry ask. see, i have spent two years as the cia. i'm tired of seeing the cia get beat up. they seem to be the whipping boy. because they live under such a cloud of secrecy that you can't know what's going on there. but these are good people.

they are honorable people. the cia never would have left those people behind. i know them too well. but there has not to be more hearings. we are calling for bipartisan commission with subpoena power to bring this these military and cia people and get to the bottom of this. >> governor huckabee: i hope it happens. thank you for your perspective. poet of you having first-hand knowledge of what happens behind the scenes. did the family members of the benghazi victims get the answers they wanted at wednesday's hearings? i'm going to ask the mother of sean smith. one of the four americans killed in benghazi. that's next. smith next. happened that night. you talked to her face-to-face when your son's body was brought back. >> yes, did i. >> what did she-t y say to you? >> she said that -- she blamed the video just like all the rest of them did. and she also told me that she would get back to me. she was going to keep on checking on it and she would get back to me with answers. she has not. neither has anybody else. >> governor huckabee: so no one from -- i was going to ask, pat, no one from the state department.r no one from the white house, no one contacted you since that day in delaware? >> only one person contacted me. it was a clerk of some kind that read to me from the time line that i already had. the time line of the second day after it. the official -- the first time line. >> what do you hope they will tell you? what do you want to hear from them that would at least bring some comfort to you because i can't even

imagine your pain. i mean, i'm a parent. and parents aren't supposed to bury their children. our children are supposed to bury us is the way it works. most of us can't relate to the hurt you have. what would help you if you could hear from someone in the government? >> i want someone to admit that they blew it and that they made the wrong decision. i know these are hard decisions to the make. i could probably never make those kind of decisions. but i do know that they asked for help. they were refused. i want to know why. why were they refused? i wanted it corrected. >> governor huckabee: i think all of us want that were you surprised of the candor of those who came forward and testified at the house hearings? because they were pretty bold and blunt. and i thought that the little clip that we just played of eric nordstrom where he became very

emotional as he spoke about your son and the over three americans who died, was especially revealing as to just how deep these folks felt for each other in that situation. >> i know they felt bad. i could feel it. i could just feel how they felt. that's how i felt, too. but the government doesn't care! they don't care about us people at all. all they have to do is tell me what happened and i would have gone away. but they didn't even bother. i was an unimportant person. now i'm an unimportant person that doesn't have a child for mother's day. and i'm -- i meal it -- feel it so deeply. they cannot understand how i feel. >> governor huckabee: pat, let me say you are not an unimportant person. that's why we wanted to talk to you. not only are you important, your son's life was important. he served honorable whether

military. [ applause ] >> governor huckabee: he served honorabliably as a honorably as a part of foreign service. one of the reasons that i really hope that we continue to beg ando push and plead and demand answers is for you, pat. and for the other family members from all of us as americans this matters. it can't matter as much to any of us as it matters to you. and that's one of the reasons that i want you to be able to tell your story and to share just the pain that you are having to endure because nobody will give you a straight up answer. they don't care. they don't care. >> governor huckabee: pat, i want to assure you that we too. >> thank you. >> governor huckabee: on this mother's day weekend, i'm so sorry that you are not able to share it with sean. i want you to know we are not going to stand by and forget this. and i promise to you that whether we get answers, we

there is nothing here or maybe you think there is something here. >> well, i think that even secretary clinton has acknowledged that there were some mistakese that were made, there were things that needed to be changed in the arb report. of course, you know, she cares about the loss of life of our four americans who were heros. i do wish in listening to sean smith's mother that someone from the state department had reached out to her that there were conversations and outreach to really address the loss of human life and the loss of your child in the way that you would expect, you know, our leaders to perform in. but when it comes to hillary and benghazi, there is -- there is the need to get out all of the information and i agree with gretchen. we started down that road. but there is also a politicization of the situation where people are hoping that this is going to be the one best shot at stopping secretary clinton if she decides to run in

2016. i don't think that's going to be the case. she has been one of the most scrutinized women for the past 20 years. and out of the last 20, 17 years americans have said she is the w most admired woman in the world. >> governor huckabee: that may not change. ed, this still raises the question. why did he she and susan rice and jay carney and the president continue for 17 days tond say this was a spontaneous mob, reacting to a video, glen hicks testified this week that he spoke to hillary the night of the attack and told her we are under attack. it was not a video. >> this is something we have got to get to the bottom of. we don't know. the questions have been raised. the answers are not there. you know, i was thinking that by my count, hillary has only used up five of her nine lives. travel gate, vince foster, commodities trading, and then she turned monica lewenski into her own advantage and ran for the

senate. so she has got four more lives so i'm not counting her out yet. i doif agree with gretchen that if the media decides to really follow this story, we're going to be seeing hillary brought up to capitol hill, testifying under oath, along with cheryl mills, her chief of staff, and victoria nuland, her press secretary which we haven't seen yet and we need to get to the bottom ofr this. gretc hen, you mentioned the media thing. i want to talk about that for a long time this was the domain of talk radio and fox news and everyone thought was a right wing agenda. i honestlyt don't think that's the case. are there people that are political raising the questions? yes. is it all about politics? i don't think so. >> no, i don't think so at all anymore. i think case in point just over the lastit few days abc did this exclusive report. they were the ones to report that the talking points that susan rice talked about on those five sunday shows after the attack were edited 12 times. this is now abc news getting involved.

we have seen jay carney now spokesperson for the president under fire in a press conference just in the last few days answers questions from all members of the media well, what about this? and what about that? to me, what will be the central issue here who will take the fall for it. will it actually be these high ranking people like susan rice, president obama, hillary clinton, or will it be their under lings who were the ones had made these changes? to me that will be significant. >> governor huckabee: i misspoke i said glen, it's gregory hicks. jehmu, there are many of us not just politics. many think it. someone said this is nothing but a political witch-hunt. this is three career foreign service people spilling their guts in front of america. none of which are going to see their careers advance because of it. how can democrats say that this is just a political issue and it's not about getting to the truth? >> well, i think that there are many democrats who are remembering not too long

ago when there was a failure inem the intelligence community, misinformation was provided to congress by the president. and thousands of americans and tens of thousands of iraqis died because of this. and the same level of outrage, the same level of need for investigation, you didn't see that coming from many of the republican congressman who were, you know, leading this charge. so, they just say on balance we have got this one situation which has led to the unfortunate death of four americans. we very another situation where thousands of americans have died. but your outrage has not been the same. that, i think, is an insight into the. >> governor huckabee: is it the same? in the case of>> the wmg's people thought there wer wmd's they were mistaken. a difference between a b mistake when you think you are telling the truth and a lie when you know you weren't telling the truth. people knew it was a video. they continue to say is not that different? >> very different.

then killing that baby right there in the clinic. it's reprehensible and completely beyond the pale. certainly there deserves independent mention and independent inquiry separate and apart from things that happen in the context of medical neglect or medical malpractice. democ rats have said senator that abortion should be safe,ic legal, and rare. we're finding out that it's neither safe nor rare, it just may be legal. respond to that. >> it is legal because of mandates put upon in all 50 states by the supreme court in 1973. that basically said you can't mess with this area. you can't restrict this. you can't place an undue burden on this type of procedure. but, it has made me wonder whenever they say it should be rare, why should it be rare? if there is nothing wrong with it, if there is nothing morally quellable about taking an unborn human life. particularly post viability
