magnitude of the disaster itself. there are so many things that you may not think of that have to be handle in a crisis like this. and our foremost goal when the storm was striking, getting the right type of personnel to find and rescue victims of the tornado itself. and those who survived and those who lost loved ones. and make sure things were secure and safe. there was so much debris. electrical lines and gas leaks and the roads and highways were closed and security was a big issue. and protecting people. personal belongings and the business community and the medical help those injured in the tornado itself. and getting the fema assistant checks to the homeowners and finding out where they are and getting them to register with fema and we know what shelter they are staying at or house they are at.

and people who lost id and birth certificate and driver's license. there is so many things that we had to deal with. utilities and water and the highways have been congested. >> it is unimaginable. and emotions are running high over what is a gut- wrenching situation and now a growing chorus to order mandatory shelters or safe rooms including all public buildings and schools, will you push for this? >> that is something we need to have a serious discussion about this year. our efforts are focused on the recovery and cleaning the debris and making insurance is taken care of and having security in the perimeters and we have the president coming tomorrow in a wonderful memorial prayer service we are going to have for recovery tomorrow night. that is something we will be discussing later. i talked to my emergency

management director today. and he told me he was working with a fema regional director and utilize the fema money to put in safe roms. there is a lot of private sector money that is raised and it is incredible to see the different organizations and companies that are putting forth millions of dollars to help build the safe rooms. >> that is good news. you can see firsthand where there are empty spaces. how do you encourage the people not to give up and believe that the community will remain resilient. >> oklahoma people are resilient and the response is incredible. if you could see the site today, it is so active and the streets are open and homeowners are at their houses and volunteers walking around. we have thousands of volunteers on the ground, many of the faith- based organizations and

the e-mails, put out large calls for people to come and help. we had one circumstance you guys reported on, they had asked for volunteers to help clean up a cemetery and a thousand people shed up in that one event. it is remarkable to so the people from oklahoma, and people nationally coming to help and all of the different groups and we are making fast progress here and it is encourage to see that. and tomorrow night we'll wrap up with a prayer service. it will be uplifting and encouraging. and we have incredible stories that will be told and we have some of the children that were in the schools that was hardest hit and they will be coming with their teachers to talk about the experience and the which were will sing a sweet song that will touch people's hearts. >> that will be amazing. it will take a while as you know to rebuild. are you concerned that once the

camera crews leave and the headlines began to fade that the recovery effort will be more difficult or do you remain encouraged with this moment continuing? >> it is encouraging to see the response and it will be very hard on those who are injured by the tornado and lost loved ones and we have mental health counseling on the ground. we have a tremendous amount of support and mental health counseling and various communities that are hit. and i understand and know it is going to be important to help people go through the process. it is a process of recovery and they will have long- term needs to deal with the trauma that they are affected with. and i talk to my friends who tell me, i was not in the area but it affected me personally to

supports the administration and the attorney general in that administration that is a hard one to swallow. i am also a member of the press and love my constitution and make a living off my first amendment rights. at the same time i am not an expert in national security. we have things like the patriot act and the constitution, were laws broken by the attorney general or by any journalist or leaks to the journalist? >> i as we all do, never will forget watching two towers come down and over 3,000 people do i. we have seen leaks from wicky leaks and our government. when the attorney general said espionage, it does start to look like somebody is trying to cover their but thes and i need to get more information before i would talk approximate perjury.

feel like we're a part of something. >> certainly you have gone through your own challenges. your own adventure. it hasn't always been easy. where does that personal strength for you come from? how are you able to translate into something so meaningful and so positive? >> don't get me wrong. as much as people know me as mr. positive and that's what people kind of -- that's why a lot of people gravitate toward me. blood runs through my blood no different than yours. i have days when i'm down. it's to go through that moment but make the choice to kind of snap myself out of that and say, okay, i went to that moment. let me learn something from it and let me get back on the tracks and find my next destination. >> i think what's very important what you said was that life is about choices and we can make a choice to move forward or stay in fear. so when you talk about that and when you think about that, what does that mean to you personally? >> for me this memorial weekend

it's about trying to remind people about the service and ultimate sacrifice that lot of service members have made and that continue to make even though the "war is over." service members lose their life every day that answer the call to deploy and leave their families and leave what i call the three fs, freedom, family and friends. they do that and sometimes they make that ultimate sacrifice so in the midst of us planning our barbecues and having a nice cold one with our friends and he joyijoy i joying the day off, if you don't have anyone connected to you in the military, encourage your friends and those you'll be around to take a moment and have a moment of silence and say thank you and pay that tribute and respect, that's great. >> a wonderful message. we thank you very much. we thank you for your service for your courage and for the commitment that you make every day to help so many people who need someone to hear what they have to say and to be there for them. thank you so much.
