some time off. and they say they don't even need to do anything just by when they go to the grocery store, they're hearing from their constituents that they want this irs thing looked into deeply. they don't need to even go out and have town hall meetings with their constituents. they are coming to them. >> because we all can relate to the irs. maybe some of these other scandals don't touch our lives, aboutbut we all deal with the ie all have maybe had mistrust in the the irs at some point in our life. how do you get trust back? you because we've lost all trust in the irs now. so you you probably get it back just by telling the truth. so maybe we need people to get back on the stand and not take the fifth. and tell us what really happened. >> and even if you completely disagree i'd logically. you want to be told the truth. if you compare this to a sporting event, if you win a

job. she ought to be out the door. i'm not a lawyer, but it appears that everything i read in talking to the folks on that committee say that she should have just pleaded the fifth and left. but her making a statement, that gives them the ability to bring her back and, again, i'm not a lawyer and just seems to me that it all smells and i hope they put her under the microscope. >> some people don't like government because it's so obvious that he's right. it's obvious what we need to do. like if we didn't do our job properly or said something horrible on the air, we would have to resign or get fired. >> things are so different in the private sector. i heard a pundit last night saying that lois lerner could potentially have this job and be on paid vacation essentially while she's on administrative leave making close to 180 grand a year for up to three years because this process could take a year and a half and then another year and a half of appeals. and that's a long time. and this is our money, folks.

irs agents and the more you have, the more likely you are to have scandals like we're having right now, it's overly complex. we need people to encourage in economic activities that spur growth and a flat tax could do that. >> you say complex and you're right about that, it's an absolute mess, the tax code. albert einstein said we should make everything as simple as possible, just not too simple and that's what critics say about the flat tax. they say it's class warfare, that when you make it that simple, that the middle class suffers the most because you're eliminating deductions. what do you say to that? >> that's good point, you don't want to make things too simple. the simplest tax code is two lines, it would say how much did it you earn, accepted it in. so that's not what i'm talking about. any tax code that you have is going to be -- there will be complexity to it. well never have a situation where we don't have something like the irs that has to enforce

the tax code in place. if i earn $100 and you earn $1,000 and we pay 10 percent flat tax, you pay ten times more than i do. that sounds pretty progressive to me. >> so one of the major issues is the implementation of this tax code. you have certain agents looking at conservative groups in people and other people get off scot-free finding all of the loopholes and other individuals being audited who say what did did i do wrong. so is it in the implementation of the massive tax code where the problems a rise? >> that's the thing, the tax code is so big that so many people working at the irs, something like that is bound to happen. almost all the people at the irs are competent hard working professionals. they're enforcing the mess of a tax code that congress has given them. but when you have you just is that many people working at a

his new book, a road map for reaching your you unique potential, is out now. thanks for being with us. >> thanks for having me. >> you're a believer in writing can to down physically what you you you want in life. >> i am a believer. you have to start this road map by understanding yourself. a lot of people think they do until they try to write down their strengths and weaknesses and their passions and they realize they don't know what to write. it helps you realize what you know and don't know. >> give us an example of a strength and a weakness. >> a strength could be i'm a good speaker or i'm good enter person inter-personally, i like working with people. that's a strength. i have good sales kills. a weakness is i'm not very good an lit issuingly. i'm not that great with numbers.

they pe feel like they're good with people and not numbers. >> and then you can i guess surround yourself with people who can help you. you say write down your passions. but don't we already know what we're passionate about? >> no. most people don't. and then of you have to break i down. someone said to me yesterday i want to work this sustainability. and then they translate that into a job. i ask them what are the two or three top tasks you need to be great at in that job and they realize, oh, i actually don't like those tasks and they realize while they like the concept of sustainability, they probably don't want a job in sustainability since the tasks don't interest them. >> so i guess where you're going. now you want us to snatch what our strengths are with our passions somehow. >> i do. and ironically, i give this advice as much to people who are in a job as people looking for a job in that many people are in a firm where they don't focus

enough on the top two or three tasks to be great at, that they need to be great nat their job or the job they seem in their firm. instead they spend time on all the other things that their buddies and friends tell them they ought to be working on and they're a distraction. you have to focus and bore in on what the tasks are that are critical to success. >> that takes being honest with yourself. >> and, too, isn't there a school of thought that if you just do a job it's an ends to a means, you can play and be passionate about something in your down time? >> you'd love to think that. and people say to me all the time i'll do my job and then i'll get to my passion later in life. and what i found, it's hard to meet somebody who is highly successful who doesn't love what they do. it they go together. financial rewards tend to come after years of operating at a high level of performance. they don't come early and if you're not passionate, you'll never get those financial

rewards. and so they into togethgo toget. >> you say your potential is not supposed to be a destination. what does that mean? >> all of us go through phases in life where we think we want something, we chiachieve it and then it doesn't feel quite the way i thought. there is always a question now what, now what. and that's because the industries change, we change, the people we work with are constantly changing. and what i'm saying to people, this is like losing weight or getting in shape. it's a life long effort. you wouldn't think, being on, now i'm in shape, i can stop. this is the same. there aare always changing. >> what if my passion is beer? >> so here's the thing i talk about with businesses. passion has to connect with something that adds value to others. so i want to eat dinner tonight and i have a passion for that.

>> so tell me about the letters. who were they sent to and when were they sent? >> there were multiple letters whether al frannen, chuck schumer and five of their democrat colleagues in the senate wrote in february of 2012 and then again in march 2012 asking the irs to crack down on what they said political organizations who were set up as 501-c-4s. and we it though who they were targeting. they were americans for prosperi prosperity, cross roads gps, other tea party related organizations. it even goes back to 2010 where senator max baucus started to request the irs look and investigate these organizes. and in fact the wording they were using was calling for investigations. so in february 2012, you had chuck schumer and al franken saying does the irs plan to investigate or are they investigating these 501-c-4s. so within can say wasn't the irs doing exactly what senate democrats asked them to do.

states obviously that have said they're not going to implement portions of obama care. now you're losing the unions. >> the unions say their health care plans already were quite a bit more costly. now with the additional things tacked on, for example, having the dependence up to the age of 26 and not having coverage limits for a year or even over a lie lifetime is making the costs go up more for them. nerp banking on the fact that these kinks would be worked out. but they haven't been. now they're worried about what happens to their bottom line. >> the unions, one of the biggest things they do for membership is provide health care benefits. but if they don't have to provide that anymore, stom of the union members are going, what is the union providing for me now? >> they're not going to stay part of it. >> we'll stay on top of that story. may be curious to see if the irs begins to investigate unions. >> oh, my goodness. >> think about the irs having implementation of obama care. will they do it, not complying

with the heartland institute and is with us from washington, d.c. today. >> good morning. >> good morning ben. >> good morning to you. >> we're talking about this grand social experiment where folks are moving to new hampshire and overtake the area and push their agenda. it almost sounds like something out of a movie or out of a -- a thesis or something. >> chester ton might say that the libertarian ideal hasn't been found -- it's been found difficult and left untried. this is an interesting movement. it's something that's intentional and organized as opposed to something more organic when the left did this, moving a lot of californians to colorado and new mexico and changing the politics there. i think the free state sort of movement, though, is a sign of the times in the sense that the libertarian movement is growing up and understanding what they can learn from traditional conservatism, which is that

communities and neighborhoods matter. politics just doesn't end with the individual but shared values can have an enormous impact on the way that people live. >> we heard a lot of that during the campaign, ron paul talking about that during a lot of the debates. the shared community ideas. here's a fox news poll i want it share with you. do you feel your government is out of control and threatening your basic civil liberties? on overwhelming number. 68% said yes, government is out of control. does it come down to simple civil liberties that most americans feel is under siege, that's why we're seeing a rise in the libertarian movement? >> i think that's a key part of this. frankly, i think that the salt that the obama administration was undertaken under american sichl liberties has put the concept where you tried to we had liberalism with sort of social issue libertarianism in the waning days of the bush administration. i think that conservatives and libertarians are recognizing

more and more there's a lot of truth to libertarianism. that it asks a lot of the right questions. they may not have all the right answers for how to live, but they ask critical questions about the way individual liberties ought to be respected under law. >> we want to get to this too. the freedom of the press. you know, this has been a tough week for the white house. the past couple weeks, really. even the left wing media is paying attention to the department of justice looking at the associated press's phone calls and fox news e-mails. talk a little bit about what you think it means for our future? >> i'm concerned that the only freedom of the press that the president and his administration respects is the freedom to love the president via the press. i think that unfortunately, when you look at the kind of assault that they undertook not just on fox's own james rosen but across the board when it comes to their attitude towards the press, i'm concerned that they don't respect their freedom. but i think more so, we should be asking what we're going to learn from an administration that's putter i can holder on

family, at the beach maybe kicking off memorial day weekend. how can we teach them the values of memorial day? how can we instill in them a sense of history? it's a hard thing to do. >> it's a very hard thing to do. there are a number of ways you can celebrate with your children. observing the moment of commemoration which happens every monday of memorial day at 3:00 p.m. exactly or the way you honor your flag by raising it to half-staff until noon. the best thing you can do is have a discussion with your children. so many kids as you're right just see it as a three-day weekend. they don't understand the sacrifice of the more than a million servicemen and women who died for our freedom. to be able to say to our children, do you understand the people who have made the ultimate sacrifice for you and what that means. to be able to lead your children in that kind of discussion is incredibly important. >> it's been hard for parents to get their kids excited about reading before harry potter and

>> yes, it does. it will be flying today. >> can we start her up? >> give us about a couple hours and we'll get her fired up. >> fair enough. the cameraman is looking at the cockpit. tell us what's going on there. >> what you're seeing up there, this was actually designed originally as an airliner by the douglas company. then it obviously became a transport and what it's most known for is dropping paratroopers over normandy and over holland in world war ii. what the cameraman is looking at there, the seats for the pilot and the co-pilot and behind that, is the seat for the navigator. because back then, there was no gps. navigation aids like today. they had to have somebody there shooting stars with a sexton for navigation. the cockpit is pretty cramped. which is not usual for today's airline styles. we've added modernized instrumentation for gps. back then, they were flying by

the officer didn't fall for it and cuffed that man. those are your headlines. >> thanks, anna. let's turn our attention to congress this morning because it's memorial day weekend. what many representatives are reporting this weekend is that while they're home with their constituents, they don't need to go to town hall meetings to find out how angry their constituents are about this irs scandal. many folks coming right up to these representatives, whether at the ball game, whether they're out having dinner with the family, saying we want you to look at this more deeply. we want you to investigate it and don't give up. >> it's a scandal you can relate to. because we all pay taxes. hopefully, a lot of us do. a lot of us say the irs, they're overcharging me. where is my return. there's always been kind much a mistrust or a misunderstanding when it comes to the irs. we all can relate somehow to this. >> representative kevin brady who is a senior republican out of the house ways and means committee out of texas, he says he's been in the grocery store.

people are coming up to him at a grocery store at baseball practice telling him we want you to investigate this irs scandal, scratch the surface of this. in june, more hearings they're reporting we could be seeing as a result of this imt you can relate all of this to sports. if an umpire makes a bad call, that's the reason why you win the game. you don't feel as good about it. people on the left are saying, you know what, even if we disagree eye dee logically about anything, we at least want everyone treated fairly. this does not seem fair. >> we've lost trust in a lot of aspects of the government. some people don't trust the irs. maybe for good reason at times. how do you get the trust back? how about honesty and accountability? that's why people don't want folks from the irs to go there and take the fifth amendment. representative bill schuster spoke to that. he's from pennsylvania. he wants lois lerner back on the stand. >> the federal government works. people don't get fired from

their jobs for doing wrong things. they have to go through a process, sort of a judicial process, which is wrong. in the private sector, if you do something wrong, they're separated from their job. give her a severance to get her out the door, but she ought to be looking for another job. i'm not a lawyer. but it appears that everything i read and talking to the folks on the committee that are attorneys, say she should have pleaded the fifth and left. but her making the statement gives them the ability to bring her back. it all smells and i hope they're able to bring her back and put her under the microscope. >> the hearing isn't completely adjourned. they could really bring her back. i was listening to a pundit last night saying this can go on for three years and we could be paying for her to be on vacation, making $180,000 a year almost. because this process could go on for a year and a half and appeals could take another year and a half while we're paying

museum for the bethpage air show. janice what do you have? >> look at some of these aircrafts, clayton. so impressive. we're live for the bethpage air show. we have julia lawyer i can't bloom here as well as alice lovejoy. we'll talk to both of them. first we'll talk to juliette. tell us about what you do here. you're a historian and curator. >> i'm the historian and the curator of the wasp exhibit that's been open for 12 years now. it tells the story about the women air force service pilots of world war ii. we're honoring one of the 38 women who was killed in service to country during the war in 1944. her name was alice lovejoy. i came upon her story quite a few years ago. it's kind of captured me. i did some research and this story unfolded before me. >> the lady beside you is very important. this is alice lovejoy's niece who has the same name as alice.

care plan. >> but now some of the president's biggest supporters feel duped by this whole thing. we're talking about union workers. they supported health care reform. now their coverage might get dropped if government plans are cheaper. rick berman joins us this morning. rick, what is going on here? why are unions upset or at least some of the unions upset? >> well, you know, when the president said his proposal was that you could keep your health care plan, he was talking about his idea, it wasn't the idea at that came out of congress. what happened is that the unions who were looking for a single-payer plan where the government would get everybody under health care much like the european systems, ended up simply with insurance companies who don't have a very big prft margin, the typical health insurance company has a 3% profit margin. in order to carry all the people who didn't have health care, they put huge taxes on everyone,

insurance companies got $100 billion taxes. there's about 20 taxes. all the insurance plans, including the union plans are now more expensive. so the unions are having to somehow throttle back the member benefits or they're going to have to charge their members more money or the employers of union members are saying, look, we can't give you any pay raises because our insurance premiums are going up. so the unions have basically violated the be careful what you wish for maxim. and they're going to be upset. >> this is tough, rick. obama supporters, of course. they're having to very delicately walk this line. how do they really speak out publicly against the obama administration? are they keeping quiet about it? how are they dealing with this? >> you've seen the roofers come out against it, the ex-president of the restaurant and hotel workers come out against this. because, in fact, in that industry a lot of employers are saying, look, i don't have to cover employees who work for less than 30 hours, i'm going to take my part-time employee who

works 35, cut him back to 29 hours. i don't have to cover him. basically because the cost of insurance is more than the profit per employee in some of the industries. unless you can raise prices, you've got to to get out of the health care business. the unions, to your point, they're coming out against it. but most of it is probably underneath the surface because obama is still their man and they don't want to embarrass him. >> rick, what does this do to unions. one of the big incentives to join the union is health care coverage. if this major tent pole of the union movement is pulled out, what does this do to the stability of unions? could there be further fracturing of unions. >> just 7% of people are in unions. you're right. typically unions have said, if you join us, you'll get some benefits that you don't get right now. now, what's happening is that people are being forced into buying health insurance, whether they're in a union or not under a penalty that the irs is going
