transplant rules for children. tonight she is breathing with two new lungs. >> beautiful set of lungs. they went in really well. she was able to resize them and they fit in her chest cavity almost perfectly. >> sarah had become so sick she had put into a medically induced coma shortly after with a court ruling she moved to the top of the transplant list. >> we had no other option no other out. we had very limited time. this is like just a blessing from god. i feel like it came at just the last minute and we wouldn't have made it much longer. >> sara's lungs came from somewhere in the region they may never know where it came from. >> that family gave sara a chance at life and a chance of a future which she wouldn't have had. we were concern we were down to the last week. >> after 18 months waiting for

>> 14 after the hour. new developments in the jody -- jodi arias trial. she was convicted of killing her boyfriend last month. a new jury will have to be picked for the penalty phase. a dramatic rescue a 45 stories above mid town. two window washers were trapped outside of a skyscraper when their scaffolding collapsed.

it took 20 minutes to rescue them by cutting a whole in the window. the men were in good spirits. >> there was a real tragedy on the racetrack last night. nascar driver jason leffler has died after a dirt track crash at bridge board speedway this is in new jersey. westbounding -- wtxf stephanie esposito has more. what happened and at what toipo did he die? oo jason jeffler was killed at 9 last night. no word on why he lost control but it did end up hitting a wall. he was 37 years old from long beach, california. his nickname was usually printed over the left door. he was called left turn.

he was part of the nascar nationwide series. he had been racing at the national level since 1999. he finished last at pocono at the race car track he had been racing dirt cars. sprint car racers are more dangerous for drivers and spectators because the safety measures aren't as safe as they are at the national level. an outpouring of support has been given to the racing community especially expressing condolences for his 5-year-old son. >> very difficult for that familia family. thank you very much. we will check in with you later. >> a stunning move by the obama administration. federal nypd stop and frisk trial. they filed a brief taking sides against the nypd. they strongly supports an outside monitor to oversee the program if the judge rules it

>> welcome to "fox & friends first". >> i am patti ann browne. >> i am heather nauert. the top five stories making news at this hour. overwhelmed with emotion those words from sarah's mother. the 10-year-old has a new set of lungs. she under went a successful double lung transplant yesterday. doctors are pleased about her progress. she has cystic fibrosis and was in desperate need of lungs but was two years too young to get on the adult organ list. after taking their fight to capitol hill they learned late tuesday new lungs were on the may. >> they were able to resize the adult lungs without any issue. it was a perfect fit. the surgery is done. she is heading to recovery. we expect her to be doing some things within the next couple

days. >> sara should be able to go home in the next few weeks. >> we start this morning with a fox news alert. we have a fox news alert. jason leffler has died after a dirt track crash last night at bridgeport speedway in new jersey. leffle leffler's car flipped several times before his car hit a wall. he was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. in a statement nascar released it says nascar extends its thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathies to the families of jason leffler he was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed. 37 years old he made 423 nascar starts. he won twice in the world cup series. he leaves behind a 5-year-old son. >> jury selection in george zimmerman's trial centering the

thunderstorm. a derecho with winds up to 100 miles per hour. now let's check in with reporter live for us from valley view, ohio. is it coming your way or is it past you at this point? >> well, heather, it passed through overnight. we saw a lot of severe weather with heavy rain, winds even hail in some areas. right here in valley view along the river this is an area where they are used to dealing with flooding. fortunately we lucked out. flood stages 16 feet right now. water levels are 4.6 only expected to go up maybe a foot later on today. but through out the night we saw severe weather on the east side about 30 minutes east of cleveland. places like lake county got hit with heavy rain and lightening lit up the night sky. we saw branchs toppled over on to power lines.
