to the extent you have aided and abetted snowden, even in the current movement, why shouldn't you be charged with a crime? >> i think it is extraordinary anybody that calls themselves a journalist that would publicly -- about whether or not other journalists should be charged with felony. the assumption in your question is completely without evidence and the idea that i aided and abetted him in any way. scandal that arose in washington before our story began was the fact the obama administration is trying to criminalize investigative journalism by going through the e-mails and phone records of ap reporters, accusing a fox news journalist, the theory you embraced, co-conspirator with felonies, working with sources. >> nbc's david gregory seems not quite ready for glen greenwald's answer about his reporting on nsa's spying. greenwald didn't stop there. he tweeted this. who needs the government to tray to criminalize journalism when you have david gregory to do it?

frank rich came to greenwald's defense with this. is david gregory a journalist? name one piece of news he has broken, one beat he covered with distinction and any memorable interviews he has conducted. his charge is preposterous. greenwald was doing the job of a journalist and the fact he is an activist journalist is irrelevant to that journalistic function. when you think about greenwald's line of questioning or gregory's line of questioning greenwald wasn't out of line. >> i think that the question had a -- when did you stop beating your wife tone to it. whatever you think of greenwald ideologically, that's -- definitely merits now a place in the talking heads hall of fame greatest smackdown of a questioner since joe louis knocked out max snelling in the '30s. >> lots of nodding heads on the panel, i might add. >> yes. >> nodding because -- this is what the -- it is all about.

the beltway establishment media click. and he did not stop. gift that keeps give. >> greenwald has been accused of carrying water for president obama. there was a big piece in the daily news that looked into his, you know, history and his financial affairs. tax problems, that kind of thing. why has he become the story here? >> well, i think it is true. he is a big apologist for obama. you know, i can comfortably and i think a lot of people can comfortably defend what greenwald is doing which is acting like a real journalist and -- bifurcating him from snowden who clearly committed a crime. and so i wouldn't want to go after greenwald. i want to go after snowden. you know, exactly what glen said to david gregory really applies to jake tapper and all of these other media types. and it is an entrenched system in washington where you have to ask permission to do things. what they were saying is how

and for us as well. what a contrast coverage. it seemed like the media, especially on voting rights thing, didn't -- well, didn't mention the most of the voting rights act left intact. >> yeah. mine, we have msnbc who gave us that great legal mind al sharpton immediately on the voting rights act. mine, it was just a really -- besides sounding ridiculous, it makes the left wing media and msnbc look like this is a part russian hack-up. very few reporters were telling us that this was a 1965 act and that -- times have changed. it was very little analysis of why we would need a 1965 fix-it law today in 2013. that completes -- commentary was completely lost and al sharpton and others that blacks could no longer vote now that the supreme court ruled this way. really riddick us problem with the press is they didn't explain what the law was about and what the section was about.

terry moran said the complete law had been inval indicated or whatever he said. it -- wasn't -- did not explain it to the average earn and even "the washington post" said that only 13% of americans were following any of this debate. >> the liberal media were using terms like gutted and assault and referring to the -- that law. >> yeah. i got back from the jersey shore yesterday. they got killed by hurricane sandy. most of the homes were gutted because of water damage. 95% of it is gone. in this case, the law was not gutted. all right. five of the six states original states to whom this law applied, the race among blacks is higher than whites. the law has done its job. demographics have changed. you have melissa harris perry saying my citizenship over now. parents, if you want to teach your kids what hyperbole means, use that example. >> to msnb, mention cnn.

the media rae search center counted up the guests on cnn and talking about the case and voting rights decision was -- 4-1 in favor -- against the decision and on the -- the doma decision, 3-1. in other words, the -- bias here is -- pretty thick. and not only intuitive but also -- you can document it with the pacts and figures. >> few has a new study out that shows that from a 5-1 ratio, stories were positive in terms of favoring gay marriage as opposed to opposing. oka if you look at public polling, cnmding a poll. 53% of the country favors gay marriage. not 5-1. if you look at the coverage compared to the polls and public sentiment big difference. >> you said that you think the coverage was appropriate. >> i thought the coverage very appropriate on gay marriage because america shifting the younger generation if you look at it by age, the very difference -- exactly. >> young people overwhelmingly
