i'm bill o'reilly. please remember that the spin stops right here and we're definitely looking out for you. welcome to this special edition of "hannity." a few months ago, we invited an entire audience of distinguished african-american conservatives to talk about some of the most important and controversial issues in race in society. we have seen time and time again, if you are african-american and conservative, vilified, demonized. tonight, due to the overwhelming response we received about the program, we decided it was important to do a second show. so for the next hour, i'll be joined once again by a group of renowned african-american conservatives, and before i turn to the floor and turn it over to them, a few statistics that i believe are important to highlight. first, democrats like to perpetuate the lie that they are the party of minorities and to their point, the last election,

presidential election, according to fox news exit polls, 93% african-americans voted for barack obama and only 6% voted for governor romney. my question is why? let's take a look at statistics. when barack obama became president in january 2009, the unemployment rate was a startling 12.7%. guess what? fast forward, four years, that number is even worse. the current unemployment rate of this group, 13.5%. now, unfortunately, those aren't the only startling statistics. when it comes to those, for example, who need food stamp assistance. 2009, over 7 million african-americans participated in the program. now according to most recent information we have, this number has risen over 10 million. not all. in 2009, 9 million african-americans living in poverty, today, that number is worse. according to the latest data.

10 million now listed in that category. my question is this. clearly president obama's policies are not working or helping african-americans. so why they wouldn't want to see at least con seventiservatives offer? joining me, a distinguished group of african-americans. give yourself a big hand. thank you. last time i got in trouble for saying african-american. why -- why is that the wrong term? let me survey. is that the wrong term? >> yes! >> hands up, wrong term. >> how many right term? >> i don't think it matter, dylan with african-american versus black. james earl jones said it got a while to get from colored to negro. poverty knows no color, and the fact of the matter is, liberals utilize an agenda that exploits that. >> and i understand intellectually, that's the right

argument. language, however, matters, and when you hyphenate yourselves as americans, the left uses hyphen nation to separate you, and if nothing else, fight back at the language itself and take it for what it really is intellectually to your point. >> carol. >> jesse jackson is the one that announced we would hence forys be african-americans and moved us from black, and that's why i rejected it. >> okay. >> i look forward to the time and day when whether it's black american or frafrican-american,e get away from the hyphen. if we see america come to the revolution of constitutional founding and come back as a country moving forward, we have to see ourselves as americans. you don't get to french and see black french or say brown

italian. >> it's self-segregation when we hear this term. when you are african-american, all right. we're americans, but a certain kin. american like everyone else, and i reject jesse jackson self-segregated term. >> the left puts people in boxes. the left says war on women, war on the block man, identity politics, i refuse to be placed in their box, i've never been in their box. i've never been to africa. i'm black. it's okay. if you want to be african-american, or anyone wants to be african-american, that's fine too. but someone who is a charla tan like jesse jackson shouldn't define me in any way. >> the culture, it's american, not just blacks. anyone can come american by coming to this country, going through the process, any country in the world. what's unique about this country, you can keep your italian, irish, heritage

wherever you come from. >> making fun of my irish family? >> yes, i am. i have irish in my family too, so i can do that. my point, you can become an american, anyone from anywhere in the world can become an american. why do we self-segregate, let's focus on what really matters. >> god -- god did not make us color blind. okay? good gave us the ability to see in color. i look at white, i look at black, i look at hispanic, i don't care. that's the point we need to get to. i am a black american. i don't care to say that. i'm black and i'm proud. raised in the house with james brown. over and over again, it has been beat into my head, i'm not ashamed of it. i don't care and that has to m. stop caring. >> i lost all control of the show. this was not the topic. but this is important, isn't it? >> we have spent the last couple of minutes talking about color. when we have a high unemployment

rate, when we have more black men in prison today, when the fact that we get a college education, but can we find a job? but yet when sean read the statistics, the majority of us voted for a president that doesn't represent us. >> i have a question. why? >> right now, we as republicans have not put forth an urban agenda to counter what the democrats and president obama said. not one time when we look at high unemployment, the president introduced his nominee for secretary of labor, talked about disability, about the lgbt community, not one time in that five-minute speech of mr. perez, did he talk anything about african-american or black community and unemployment. >> back there. >> i will say this. with the color thing, my mom is 86 years old. somebody walked up to her and said sister, do you know where you're from? and she said, yeah, long island,

new york. no, no, which country are you from? >> the united states of america. that's the way they are trying to shove it down their side? if we can say, guess what? we're american. i mean, i served in the military. we're not black and white in the military. well, we weren't black and white in the military, we were the united states military. we die at places, we protected each other, we watch each other's back. whether we were black, white, yellow, green. we watched each other's backs. >> isn't there a spiritual component to this? >> a lot. >> i'm a christian. god created every human being with talent and ability. unfortunately, the way society is now, a lot of our kids, all races, are falling behind, and these statistics should scare everybody. the unemployment rate for black teenagers in the country right now are 50%. those kids will be on the streets, not working and

developing the skills they need to get ahead later in life. >> the final point made about having rapid response when they play race. the president made a declaration that we should do away with christian or catholic education, because they are divisive. one of the primary reasons we have such high unemployment rate, these young people, not getting a quality education. >> none of us chose our birth, but we should be able to choose, regardless of color, and we recognize it, see it for what it is. we should be able to choose our future. and opportunity in this country, and that's the promise of america, and you don't choose your birth. but you choose your future and should have the right to pursue it. >> question, show of hands, how many in this audience think the president's agenda, 93% of the black vote in the last election. how many of you think his policies have hurt black america? >> all of america. >> anybody?

welcome back to welcome back to our special edition of "hannity." black conservatives part two. recently elbert guillory left the democratic party and joined the gop. >> i want to take a moment to explain why i became a republican and why i don't think it's a boll decision at all. it's the right decision for me and all of my brothers and sisters in the black community.

the democrats created the illusion that their agendas and policies are best for black people. you see, at the heart of liberalism is the idea that only a great and powerful big government can be the benefactor of social justice for all americans, but the left is only concerned with one thing. control. and they disguise this control as charity. the idea that blacks, or anyone for that matter, need the government to get ahead in life, is despicable. >> guillory is not the only black american that feels that way. some of our audience were at one times democrats. t.w. shannon, speaker of the house in oklahoma. >> i am, sean. >> were you ever a democrat? >> i was, about two years, when i first registered. i learned conservative values from my conservative church in oklahoma. we cannot wait for the federal government to lead, in areas of

education, health care, the national party has shown they are unwilling or incapable to make the necessary changes that are going to move this country forward. but there will be change, in the halls of state government. >> why if obama is in the fifth year and not helping the whole country, specifically black americans, why does he get 93% of the vote? >> it's the symbolism. we in america are attracted to icons and his election initially represented a moment in history where we knew there was progress. the fact that there was an african-american president elected was a good thing. not a bad thing at all, a lot of people felt pride about that but the policies have not been in the favor of not only african-americans, native americans, or america as a hole. >> not just policy, but making the case. you know, making the argument, talking to my friend, sonny johnson, about how it's time for us, especially black

conservatives to move beyond the race discussion and start talking about how we persuade people, and honestly, when i've had an open, passionate discussion about why i am a conservative, former liberal and now conservative and i've explained why. it's because i care for my people, care for my community. everything we've been doing for the last 50 years has made things worse for us, not better and i want to us try something different. >> you start winning people. >> i promise, we'll get everybody. judge, a superior court judge in north carolina. >> yes. >> and a role model and success story for everybody. are these kids going to be left behind if they are not working in the summertime? >> absolutely. and i have been a member of the republican party for ten years now. proud member. had a road to damascus conversion where i fell off the donkey and saw the light, and i have had the opportunity to

speak with friends and family members about the conversion and the conversation starts around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee and one person at a time discussing what our values were growing up, in our households, in our churches. >> katrina, are you back with us, with the dallas -- and her cowgirl boots on with the dallas tea party. >> i wanted to address something kira said. she is right, and we need to take some responsibility and get out there and actually deliver the message. unfortunately, i think that when people do need discuss realize we're not just mean, crazy, right-wing extremists, they just make an exception for you. >> that's what they call me, right-wingnut job, extremist. what really needs to happen, those at the top of the republican party, they are the ones that have to make that message clear. go to the neighborhoods and show these kids who they are, so they

are not the mean monster in the back of the closet. there's no reference point. >> have they fail at that? >> very badly. >> show of hands, republicans failed to reach out to the black community? >> sean, even more so than that. and i'll leave this alone, i'm a big proponent for taking responsibility. i've always been that way. i'm not going to throw any stones, not directly at the republican party. i'll start with myself and the conservatives in this room. what makes me so proud to be here, biblical references. we are like those who went to the promised land and we can say we can inhabit the giants and take the land. i'm not finished. we have to be patient. i'm going to get this out. we have to be patient with those who cannot see the light, who aren't there yet and the judge said go back to our community. i don't want the republican party to go to my family, i can go myself and if we do that, we'll convert way more people.

we have to realize the power -- >> hang on. wait. wait. let me get a mike on you. >> i switched parties in 1993 from democrat to republican. i wrote this book, bamboozled, h. each chapter on that book is based on a chapter of the bible. i went to the church of world over commerce, and gave a sermon about why we have left who we are as black conservatives. when you go to the house of god and you talk about like chapter one, uncle sam isn't your baby's daddy. get married before you have a child. people will listen. >> well, there's a problem i see here -- >> we have a break. >> there is a problem with trying to switch labels rather than talking principles, values, and what works. we hear about switching to republican. i want to tell people, first you should recognize you have a

and members of the mainstream media have been in the president's pocket since he stepped foot in the oval office. they try to push this over the years, when conservatives criticize the obama white house, they say the president's race is a factor. a recent example from martin bashir talking about the irs enemy list. >> the irs is being used in exactly the same way that they tried to use the president's birth certificate. for republicans like darryl issa, who knows something about arson, the irs is something no, ma'am inlammatory. burning hot, like that fire that burnt mr. isisa's warehouse in

1982. this is the latest in the war in the black man against the white house. >> you don't like this. >> that's an amazing comment. the irs a few weeks ago apologized for targeting of tea party and conservatives. is the irs trying to embarrass the president when they apologized? any time people on the right criticize president obama is because of racism. >> a reporter did this to me four different ways. you don't like the president because he is black. i said, no, i don't like him because he's a socialist. pretty easy. >> i am a member of the westchester tea party, and one of the founding principals of the tea party is the constitution. >> i called you the wrong name. >> that's okay. there tends to be a misconception to the

constitution. people think racist, slavery. the constitution explicitly says we're all created equal and talking about going into schools and talking to young children, if we show them the constitution and what it actually means and explain it to them, maybe that would draw them to it more and to realize it's there to help us and to protect us, but not to give us things. >> i know our founding fathers, we can deal with the whole issue of the constitutional convention. it was -- i don't think the country would have been formed if they tried to deal with the evil of slavery at the time. they tried. >> right. >> but one thing to their credit and wisdom, put in place a system where we can right wrongs and correct injustices and history has proven, we fought a civil war, civil right movement. '64 voting rights act, civil rights act. carol. >> i'd like to say for me, i have been a democrat most of my

life and i made the switch maybe about ten years ago, not easy to become a republican. i went democrat, independent, and eventually republican, and i don't see how anyone that calls themselves a christian could actually belong to the democrat uk party. >> why do you say that? >> it's the party of abortion, and if you look at the impact on african-americans, if republicans were doing to blacks what democrats are doing, it would be called genocide. >> wow. ron kristy. >> we started the show, top of the segment, the white house and enablers in the media use race as a means to stop conversation. if you say somebody is a racist, plays the race card, it instantly kills the conversation. these policies have failed america and the black community in general what they are doing for the lack of school choice is killing our kids. what they are doing with gun violence in inner city, it's killing black kids. does the media want to discuss

this? that it takes away from the far ty that obama is doing all of these great things. >> to piggy back on the point, the left uses race as a very emotional issue. on elm power.org, we have a note for blacks to take action. we have black conservatives to come out, to promote liberty and personal responsibility, we need a support system. way too many people are afraid to come out and say something because of targeting from their families, friends, people who are close to them, and we have a great room of leaders here. there are many, many more black conservatives out there, and we need to do more of these programs and develop a support system so more people can come out for liberty and talk about the implorable educational numbers and the ridiculous crime rates and all of that.

>> three things we need to do. show up in community, like ran paul did when he went to hoe war university. go to community -- >> normally that wouldn't be receptive to a message. second, we have to communicate what we stand for, why is it a benefit, not just for that community, but for the whole country and then we have to adjust justify our brand. we need to use examples like gop governors, rick perry, great governors in the red states. you have a greater chance of upper mobility because of conservative policy. people are moving to red states and don't realize that they are moving towards the benefit of limited government, economic freedom and they vote like they did in the blue states they moved from. we need to incorporate the three plans, show up, communicate, justify.

they have been skrating by for years. and as a conservative, we need to demolish the cbc in itself. all of america, as my brother charles said, they get paid $175,000 a year, like every other congressional person and work on behalf of all constituents, not just blacks. look at what happened over the past six months, some of the nonsense and some of the ethics issues, we need to recognize they to a disservice to us. we look at detroit, we look at cleveland, we look at north carolina, we look all over the country, those community not doing well. >> bulldozing neighborhoods. >> absolutely. >> and get they get -- >> it's horrible. horrible. >> i promised, you are going to weigh in. >> one of the things i wanted to address early on, you asked a question, why 93% of the black vote still going to president obama? and i didn't hear anyone address that. when you speak spiritually of the issues that affect the black

community, you have to talk about idolatry, exult something above god. everybody got caught up in the first black president type thing. the second term really was idolatry, the sheep clothes were off, and everybody knew what they were getting, but still voted for him, because they exalted the color of their skin over the word of god if we don't address that and say, that, my friend, is idolatry. >> you mean like people who get a thrill up their leg? >> yes. that's the first step of idolatry. >> bouncing off that that's the x factor for the black community, it's the church. look at the conservative principles, social, government, you got to get back to the church. the church is the one that -- that fought for freedom, for free rights, civil rights. it's the church that was the one

pioneering the stuff. so i feel like it goes back to us. being people, being christians and black people, whether they heard it from their grandmother, mom, they know something about church. they know something about god. >> harold, i lived in atlanta, knew maynard jackson, andrew young, best friends with hosea williams. i knew john lewis. the bravery these men showed during the civil rights movement, unprecedented, but they are all liberal democrats. louis farrakhan has a church. >> in braj, we have a mentor protege program. conservative mentor protege program. these kids are not -- we put ownership mentality versus consumer mentality. when we ask what they want to be when they grow up. we ask what kin of wis they want to own when they grow up.

they can't fathom when they can be a pipe fitter. we asked him what business they want to own, and they will tell us they want to be a refinery owner. >> as long as they don't want to be a tv or radio talk show host. i don't need anymore competition. >> ownership mentality versus consumer mentality. the only way to get out of poverty is owning their own business. >> good point. and then they'll own their own house and business and car. yes. in the corner. >> you know, i'm charles butler. >> hi, charles. >> i listened to everyone talk here and i really appreciate your point of views. i have been a republican since '72 at the university of michigan. but the issue here is we haven't focused on is illegal immigration and immigration reform. we have people talking about legalizing 12 million people and bringing in another 33 million guest worker who's are going to

impact people at the lower socioeconomic entry level jobs in this country. >> just said this week in the report that came out. yes. >> and cbo already saidith going to be a very detrimental impact, have a very detrimental impact on black america. i just read the report the other day. i'm telling you, those are issues we need to focus on. once they pass the law, we need to fight this thing. deal it now and doing it through the black alliance. >> jennifer, we haven't gotten you in. >> thanks so much, sean. i want to address two things. number one, social media director for the teaparty.net. the left using race for the basis of everything. i manage our facebook page. 75% of the information that goes up about me. we say something about policies, they are racist. videos of me at tea party

rallies, articles i've written and people accuse me of not existing, because i can't question obama. >> you look real to me many. >> she does. >> thank you so much. one thing we need to keep in mind when you think of hyphenation and not just the loss of the black community, but also the youth, it's the fact that we've let the left take control of the school system. i was a teacher for 12 years, and i remember teachers from well to do areas talking about the kids who had a mother who was a drug addict and father and prison. and they let these kids slide by and gave them special privileges and i would say you aren't doing that child any favors, they need structure in their life beyond anything because what they are going through at home. >> you know what they need? a mom, and a dad. maybe not what my father did, the belt, but they need discipline. hard-core -- >> i was the toughest teacher in the school, and they wanted to be in my class, because they

knew i would hold them accountable, but they also knew there were times to have fun, but they worked hard, because i expected it. and they'll live up to dppgs expectations. i wish i had you as a teacher. all my teachers were liberal. >> i didn't know what i was at the time. >> more with the studio audience as we continue. more "hannity" straight ahead. clients are always learning more to make their money do more. obama is what it is. part of it is symbolism. but i also think that the media plays a role, making blacks feel guilty if they don't truck enthusiastically support the president. the media is an extension of the left and they have no use for blacks that blame it on other people. if you want to blame racism or the legacy of slavery, an all-purpose explanation for the black community, they will embrace you with open arms on the left. if you say incarceration rates and education skills and so forth and i willegitimacy rates need to be fixed by you, they see you as a threat. >> it's acceptable in the media to excoriate and use the worst, ad homonym attacks. >> i wanted to address the fact

of blind loyalty. so many people i speak with, they automatically vote democrat. what about this politician, this issue? i don't care about that, i'm going to vote democrat. we are just democrats, my mom voted democrat or my grandmother voted democrat. ith important to know and understand both sides and make an educated decision, not just a blind loyalty, because when you just blindly follow, oftentimes you fall into a ditch, and you doan know why you are there, so you don't know how to get out. >> well said. you wanted to jump in. >> i'm with you. more conservative than i am gop and that is the reason, because i was brought up in the tea party. what i think the difference between the tea party and gop is is people orientated rather politics orient at the same tao.

the disconnect with my generation, when you say the constitution is good, we want to go back to founding principles, they don't know what the principles are. you want to explain it, they don't want what hear what the principles are. how do you get them? what they say. give them a wallet. buy him a wallet and tell him here is your charge, never, ever let a police officer take this from you, and never, ever let it go empty. that's how you do it. you go and give them capitalism, give them something to fight for, but you cannot go in and say this policy is good. you should now change your mind, because they ask where are the blacks in the tea party? where are the blacks at up wall street, where are the blacks in the rest of the places, they are not there. >> she and i have done this over and over again on my show, she does it publicly.

i'm in one of the original tea party founders. all of us warned the tea party federation and we never talked about color, we talked about education, we talked about the things that shani talks about. giving you skin in the game is giving you knowledge. why is it that 57 years, 20,997 days, a laudable achievement in john dingle in detroit, where the inner city is falling apart, lost over 25% of population, spento orver a decade on the number one poverty spot list. we're not teaching them what the value proposition is in life. the value proposition is choice, opportunity, it's rewar, it's possibly failure. and we've got to impart -- >> hang on. >> we have to impart this to our kids. stop trying to switch labels and
