we will talk to one small business owner who says this delay will just be another year of uncertainty for his business and his employees. hello, everybody. america's news headquarters live from the nation's capital starts right now. and we begin in egypt where deadly protests could go on for days. supporters of mohamed morsi are vowing to remain in the streets until the islamic leader is put back into power. morsi and others are urging the new leaders to end the violence and protect the protesters. connor powell joins us from cairo with the latest. >> reporter: it is not officially under martial law at this minute, but there is a growing military presence in cairo and across the country. so far the military has been unable to prevent the growing

violence. 36 people have been killed. a coptic christian bishop was killed and this is part of the country where the muslim brotherhood is strong, but it is even stronger with radical islamists as well. this is a type of violence and it is in the coming days and weeks as we see more and more egyptians battling it out on the streets. over the night we saw heavy fighting here in cairo and alexandria and other cities where it was really hand to hand combat. both sides using sticks and stones and using molotov cocktails and at times it was reminiscent of a hollywood movie. the top commander met earlier today, but what we haven't heard is a plan to meet with the muslim brotherhood or efforts to sort of find some common ground between the two groups. the muslim brotherhood is still urging its supporters to take to the streets. there has been a large protest, a sit in peaceful protest in cairo near the

republican guard headquarters. that's where we and others believe the former deposed is now being held. one of the top requests by the muslim brotherhood is that morsi must be released. they also want him reinstated. that seems very unlikely. but right now there is no dialogue between the military and the muslim brotherhood. we are expecting protests tonight and tomorrow and in the coming days. >> some challenging times ahead. connor, thank you very much for the update. while many observers believe egypt's military will remain in control in the short-term and continue influencing events behind the scenes after egypt's constitution is amended and restored, questions remain on whether the military intervention has undermind the long-term hope for democratic rule. joining us now with some thoughts on what may happen, fox news military analyst who is also the author of the new book "terror red."

nice to have you here. >> hi, how are you doing? >> let's talk about what is ahead for egypt as we focus on the protests with the ouster of egypt's first democratically elected president. many in egypt are wondering what's next. >> a couple of things. we have to realize that the main reason behind this coup, which everyone in the world is calling a coup except the u.s." and the military had their take cut in half when the muslim brotherhood came into power. the second piece is this is the first and only chance that the muslim brotherhood to have viability. and they are not going to give up this political power as easily as it seemed yesterday. now you are seeing the push back by the muslim brotherhood. it is going to get ugly. it is not over yet. >> what do you say to those who believe the military is

undermining efforts toward a lasting democracy? >> i think it is true. i don't think you will find any successful country followed by a military coup. pakistan is the most recent example. we had problems with this in vietnam. it is not a good way to start a government. one of the problems is the u.s. has not participated in this and trying to help because they have backed the muslim brotherhood which the muslim brotherhood is a terrorist organization. the issue right now and they want their money back. they have disbanded the constitution and the muslim brotherhood is being to push back. we have to remember that the muslim brotherhood is tied at the hip with iran. >> we have witnessed protesters denouncing the administration because it is backing morsi and the brotherhood. what role if any can the u.s. have to influence those in

egypt particularly if they are unstable for some time. is this a time to consider holding back on military and financial aid as senator mccain is suggesting? >> this administration was in support of and the ambassador did make positive statements. they did make positive statements about the old regime a week ago and morsi. they were in support of it. they were hard to walk that back. we have to continue the 1.5 billion. we have to keep some level of influence. there is a great connection between the u.s. military and the egyptian military as corrupt as the military is. we have to keep our fingers in the pie. again i have to say we have to be very concerned that the muslim brotherhood built a strong relationship with iran. iran and the muslim brotherhood are going to be pushing back. there will be more unrest for awhile. >> one of the things is the

next leader needs to be more inclusive without this notion that is seen as an opportunity to pursue a specific political ideology as morsi did. do you agree with that? >> absolutely. what the muslim brotherhood did was say it will be our way or the highway and there was a violent reaction to that. when this election happened many thought it would be a new way of doing business. but it was just called different. what happened is on the practical standpoint is they wanted to keep the corruption money and only give the military half. that really is behind this. the problem is the muslim brotherhood is not going to go quietly into the night because they were so restrictive. a third of the people you are seeing actually don't like the muslim brotherhood. the other third is the military and another third has to do with political opponents. >> always great to see and you nice to have your

perspective. thank you for joining us. >> thank you. with the ousting of the first democratically elected president, many are seeing egypt's second revolution. even though morsi's ouster was a blow to the controversial muslim brotherhood, it does not mean that they are not going down without a fight. joining us with perspective is the president of the american islamic forum and the author of the book "a battle for the soul of islam, an american patriot's fight to save his faith." thank you for joining us. >> it is great to be with you. thank you for having me. >> the fact that egypt's military moved fairly quickly against the muslim brotherhood by arresting key leaders and silencing their communication outlets, do you think it is a catalyst for more serious trouble ahead? >> well, i think it is a course correction for the revolution. all revolutions take years to settle in. this is the voice of the people. there were tens of millions that went to the streets, ten

times that went against mubarak. this started in november when morsi took the mandate of the election which wasn't much of a mandate and there was elimination of the lower parliament. he made himself immune from the judicial review. he put into place that marginal liesed christians and women's groups. he was looked upon as a dictator. now they are course correcting it. yes obviously it is a coup, but in many ways it is the voice of the people. we didn't see revolution 1.0 and we didn't see 2.0 because we keep goingnd this policy that somehow muslims and egypt are destined to be run by secular fashists. we are finding out the majority don't want either and we need a new policy to start to listen to the voice of the people. >> you know, so much of the constitution that morsi put together tried to force shaw reallah at the coast of political reform and economic

growth. what impact could this have on those who support an islamist government. >> those who support the brotherhood thought that, well, maybe we can sneak this in. what we are learning is the brotherhood only was good at being grievance mongers and claiming victims. when they get into control they do it through ought crate particularly. they don't know how to bring in other groups 6789. the old saying is nassar said that and they couldn't get rid of the brotherhood. morsi. was. if you want to continue to defeat the brotherhood give them the public space. don't put them in jail and make them martyrs again and fuel their movement which they are good being underground and let them have their space as long as there isn't violence. diswhrie is concern about the fact -- there is also concern that they gained freedom to

operate during the year in office in addition to the brotherhood. who is to say they won't join forces now with the muslim brother -- brotherhood to reinforce the chaos in the streets. >> they have separated and in many ways said they are against the brotherhood. they have come behind the brotherhood because they were given it is fuel of the revolution in the past few weeks where they were put in luxor. the people said are you kidding? you are putting terrorists into running governorships. that's why our tourism is tanking. then they revolted. i think the brotherhood has made a deal with the devil domestically. the people again rose against that to numbers unseen in the middle east. >> are you optimistic for what we are seeing as the second revolution? >> i am optimistic if our

president can begin to lead and help them put back ngo's to guide them and how to build a secular democracy. if we continue to be asleep, i'm afraid that the chaos will continue to embroil over there. >> we are so grateful to you for joining us. we really appreciate it. >> anytime. thank you. i appreciate it. while the violence continues in egypt following the military's move to overthrow the morsi regime. mubarak whose actions prompted the widespread protests in the 2011 uprising and lead to his ouster continues with his efforts to retry his conviction on charges of corruption and the murders of protesters. court proceedings resumed for a short time today only to be adjourned until august 17th. the dfers says it needs the -- the defense says it needs time to review evidence. mubarak was electricked last year, but an appeals court granted him to a right to a retrial. and now to the latest of a story of a man psyching asylum

somewhere in the world. nsa leaker edward snowden may find he can soon leave a moscow airport where he has been holed up for the last two weeks. it seems there are now two south american countries that are saying that they are willing to roll out the welcome mat for the former spy agency contractor. elizabeth joins us with de -- details. >> we have breaking news for you. there are now three countries as edward snowden is evading the u.s. government at the moscow airport. three countries would be willing to accept his request for asylum. the bolivian president evo morales will join in announcing that his country is prepared to offer the whistle-blower asylum. it was his plane from moscow that was not only forced to land, but delayed and searched in austria due to suspicions it was harboring snowden. venezuela an president nicholas maduro made his offer during a speech on the anniversary of the country's independence. it was not immediately clear

scary moments in warren, indiana last night. a portion of the building in the downtown area collapses during a summer street festival. the building went down just minutes after a parade came through the area. witnesses describe hearing a loud noise and then the building falls apart. sending bricks and glass to the street below. no major injuries were reported and emergency responders say no one was hurt. the belling was empty at the time of the collapse. about 60 documents related to the shooting rampage in tucson, arizona two years ago that killed six people and wounded 13 others including congresswoman disbar be

unless she gave him $250,000. and that is a quick look at the top stories making news right now. all right, here is a question for you. what was secretary of state john carey doing while the unrest in egypt erupted in full crisis mode this week? apparently he was on his boat in nantucket. at first the state department denied he was on that yacht, but now they are changing the story. molly has the latest from here in dc. molly? >> the state department confirms that john carey was on his yacht for a short time on july 3rd. they were reversing the prior statements. and now some republicans want to know why the state department could not get its story straight. here is the time line. july 3rd, egyptian president mohamed morsi is ousted from power by the egyptian military. secretary carey is monitoring the situation, quote, very closely. a cbs producer sees secretary carey boarding his $7 million yacht in nantucket and tweets

about it which prompts this reaction from the state department. a statement saying, quote, secretary carey was working all day and on the phone dealing with the crisis in egypt. any report or tweet that he was on a boat is completely inaccurate. and then on july 4th, cbs obtained photos of carey on his boat the previous day. when asked the state department stood by its assertion that secretary carey was not on the boat. then yesterday july 5th a reversal. the state department put out a statement acknowledging what the picture showed, that carey did go out on his boat. while he was briefly on his boat on wednesday, secretary carey worked around the clock all day. all of this back and forth got the attention of former republican vice presidential candidate and fox news contributor sara sarah palin who called the statements, quote, outrageous. she posted on her facebook page, quote, being on his boat isn't the issue. blatantly deceiving the

means laying off several employees or pass the expense on to your clients. >> that's exactly the choice we are dealing with today. we are the perverbial poster child for under employment. i can't afford to give anybody more than 25 hours as we hire. i cannot afford to go over the threshold and add additional full time employees. so beyond my business which is the second generation of -- family business. we are struggling to survive in economies like we have and i have employees most of whom are working to feed their families and most now have to work second jobs. they are the ones that feel the brunt of the health care push. >> i know that this is something that really concerns you. this is a crisis that continues to hurt people

across the country. do you think this delay helps you in anyway? >> actually the delay really hurts us. it hurts many, many people i know in the small business community. uncertainty is the single thing we have today. not knowing what will be brought upon us and showing the level of ignorance from the administration saying don't worry, i will get to you. they have no concept of what a small businessman goes through from day-to-day to meet a payroll and day-to-day to pay bills and provide a service. they are hurting the backbone of our country which is small business. we need certainty. the delay to me is either complete incompetence on their part not being able to perform their job or it is in my opinion a political move. let's get through the mid-term election cycle without any big

burdens of small business. we don't want to see a bunch of layoffs. we don't want to see people in the streets and unemployment numbers tick up. i see it as a political move and incompetence on their part. >> when you say it is hard to plan, certainly it is very difficult to even plan whether or not you can actually hire more people and that has a direct impact on the economy if you are saying that and others are saying that as well. the fact that you are going through this at this time does very little in your opinion i guess to stimulate the economy. >> it does nothing to stimulate the economy. actually it has an affect just the opposite. we are in a lock down mode. i can't increase hours for any employees i have. i certainly don't want to breng on any additional -- to bring on any additional employees that may cross thresholds that require me to pay penalties. we are in a very tough spot.

we are in a spot where if this does indeed happen and they don't repeal the mandate, we are going to be in a position where have i to lay people off. >> from a personal perspective, what are they saying to you? they must be very desperate. >> they are not only desperate, but they are frightened. they are working very hard for every penny they earn. they know that if we have to downsize they could be out of a job yet again and back in the unemployment line. it is a a very, very scary place for them to be in this economy. most of them this is their second job. and this is the only way they have found to put food on the table for their children. >> a trying time for yourself and your employees. we wish you the best. keep us posted on how things are going and we will check back with you later on. >> thank you. >> appreciate it very much.

takes center stage in missouriment the state's republican-lead legislature papses a bill that in affect nullifies federal gun laws making it a crime for federal agents to enforce those laws and making it a crime for journalists to publish the names of gun owners. the state's democratic governor is firing back vetoing the legislation and saying the bill violates the constitution and first amendment rights of free speech and a free press. to override nixon's veto they need a two-thirds vote in both the state, the senate and the state house. lawmakers are set to return to session come september. >> a national team of investigators are on the scene and working to understand more about a team of 19 firefighters who were killed fighting a fire in arizona. preliminary reports say the firecrews were highly trained hotshot crews that were killed as they were trying to build a line to block the fire from getting into the town of yarnell. they shifted the winds and cutting off the path to a

ranch house and they cleared as their safety zone. the fire is now 90% contained. right now the northeast is coping with a combination of heat and humidity this weekend. meanwhile the southeast is in for another soaker. janice dean is joining us now live in the fox weather center with the latest on the heat advisory gripping the northeast at this time. janice? >> yes, uma, unfortunately we have been dealing with the hot, sticky weather not only today, but through sunday as well. so keep some of the activities indoors especially in the late afternoon where it will feel close to a hundred degrees. the heat advisory and we have heat warnings in affect for parts of new jersey. keep that in mind. we are dealing with temperatures well into the 90s, but feels like temperature is close to or over 100 degrees. as we get into the afternoon that's where we will really see the peak of these temperatures. the heat is going to be oppressive because of the

the ousted president morsi criticized the bishop for approving the ouster of morsi. at least 36 people have been killed in those recent clashes so far. the protests have been peaceful for today. the grand jury will hear about a man who claimed that hernandez shot him in the face months ago. it is one of the stories trending on-line at this hour. the superior court judge has called alexzander bradley who said he lost his eye when hernandez shot him in miami to testify. bradley claimed he needed to get back to florida for medical treatment. hernandez faces charges in the june 17th death of semipro football player odin lloyd. another story trending on-line, the plight of a mother and daughter reportedly stranded in brazil since may.

store, what's the first thing that they want -- you hear from them about why they are there and what makes it so special for them? can you tell me some personal stories? >> well, one of the first things they want to make sure of is the flags is made in the united states and we assure them of that. after that, it -- it comes down to personal choice for the size of the flags. some people like old-time cotton flags because they are not as shiny as nylon. they don't wear as well. some people want an understated view of the flag. other people want it to be as large as they can. it is everything. i have had people come in that -- that have houses off of lakes and off of the potomac and want 30, 40-foot flagpoles in their backyard. i have other people that -- that come in from oldtown, alexandria, that want to do an understated display. >> they want old glory to be made right here in the usa. >> oh, they do. >> that's a huge deal. >> huge deal. >> they don't want to see our flag being made in taiwan or
