baby. martha is live outside of st. mary's hospital. good morning, martha. >> reporter: hey there. good morning. we are outside of st. mary's hospital and inside the building that you see behind me is prince william and the duchess of cambridge. they are very proud new parents to an 8 pounds 6 ounce baby boy born at 4:40 in the afternoon. we do expect that they will make an appearance on the steps behind us within the next few hours. we're still working on exactly when that may be. we had brief moments with the duke and duchess of cambridge. he said he's not sure, he's not sure when they will be out but we are seeing activity. they are laying down additional barricades. we expect that they will make some kind of public appearance this morning. we want to take you through the morning papers. it's everywhere. the city is absolutely jubilant. this is a beautiful cover "the

london times" where you see the duchess and duke of cambridge and his quote so far from yesterday, "we could not be happier" and that says so much. a couple more that we have here, this one, "it's a boy" and this is my favorite. they changed their name, "the son" spelled s-o-n. and inside it talks about the fact that they have never changed the name of the newspaper before and they expect they probably never will again but they wanted to make a very large tribute in terms of their headline and the name of the paper to this little boy who was born today. and a lot of good feeling really about prince william and what he has done for the monarchy and that his sort of temparment and his respect and every day nature

has made the country really fall in love with him. he's a real respected young man here and he's done a lot to improve the image of the monarchy here in england. >> martha, i've been reading information this morning. prince william made his first public appearance when he was just 21 hours old and his brother prince harry 22 hours old. what are we thinking? are we thinking that we'll see the baby at some point within the 24 hour period? >> reporter: that is the thinking. prince william was born at 9:00 at night. this baby was born at 4:42 in the afternoon yesterday. there is some talk about them making some appearance this morning. the doctors made their visit to kate. assuming that she's doing well and the baby is doing well, it will be a decision on the doctor's part as to whether she can leave this morning and we expect that they probably will.

>> definitely exciting times there. and also our thoughts, of course, martha go to the grandmother who will not meet her grandson, princess diana. thank you so much. another fox news alert to tell you about. a frightening end to a flight at laguardia airport. the front landing gear of this southwest jet suddenly collapsing sending the nose crashing into the tarmac. >> the landing gear collapsed. the nose wheel specifically collapsed. the aircraft skidded down the runway on it is nose and veered off and came to rest in a grass area. >> rescue crews rushed to lay foam down to prevent a fire. >> they are spraying down the aircraft right now. i believe that's why they want the doors closed. >> as many as 10 people on the flight from nashville suffered minor injuries. they said that they were given no warning of a possible problem

before the crash landing. >> i didn't really know what happened until i exited the plane. >> the first thing that goes through my mind, are people going to be freaked out? but all in all, i mean, hey, we walked away. >> officials hoping to have that runway up and fully functional this morning. the faa and ntsb is investigating. a copycat charged with three murders in east cleveland. michael madison is being held on $6 million bond. the registered sex offender was arrested last week after women's bodies were found wrapped in trash bags. the investigation is far from over. >> we're receiving calls from, as you can assume, everywhere. we're doing our best to follow up on every tip we get, every bit of information. >> one victim was identified as

angela, missing since june 7th. officials are still trying to identify the other two victims. convicted terrorists, many of them senior members of al qaeda, hundreds of prisoners running free. they managed to escape iraq's abu ghraib's prison while gunmans attacked prison guards and 20 soldiers were killed and a simultaneous attack was also on another jail. fortunately no inmates escaped. a group of more than 700 special operations veterans will rally on capitol hill. they are demanding a select committee investigate the benghazi terror attack. the obama administration initially tried blaming a video for that attack but the former leader of the american forces in africa now says that he knew right away it was the work of terrorists. >> it became apparent to all of

us pretty quickly that this was -- this was not a demonstration. this was a violent attack. >> well, general ham didn't address reports that he was pushed into early retirement for criticizing the response to the attack. he is out. brewers superstar ryan braun is out for using performance enhancing drugs. he said, "i am not perfect. i realize now that i have made some mistakes and i am willing to accept the consequences of those actions." after he learned how much evidence linked him to the clinic in florida, two dozen other players have been linked to that clinic, including alex rodriguez. now, days after the motor

city went bust and amid signs of a still struggling economy, kelly wright is live in washington with more details on this. good morning, kelly. >> reporter: heather, good to see you. the president's speech on the economy will be similar to what the american people have heard him say before. the white house says he will discuss america's progress. in his address, the president will focus on the budget debates coming this fall. republicans are threatening to shut it down because of obama care. >> if republicans in both houses simply refuse to vote for any continuing resolution that has further enforcement of obama care, we can stop it. >> then, there's the issue of detroit filing for bankruptcy and other major cities, including chicago. they are grappling with looming budget crisis. what kind of assistance can the president offer? >> we will, of course, as we do with every city, work with them to find ways to assist them in

a maryland college student is talking about a terrifying

crash that could have killed her. friday night she was driving across the chesapeake bridge when a tractor-trailer hit her and she plunged into the lake below. >> i saw the sky, the land, the water and that's when i closed my eyes and hit the water really hard and the water felt like concrete. i started to feel like i was drowning. >> amazingly, the 22-year-old escaped with only some bumps and bruises. you can hear more of her amazing story when she joins us live on "fox & friends" at 7:20. police discovered a pipe bomb near a shrine which pope francis is expected to visit. the device was discovered in a bathroom and it was detonated but they don't believe that the pope was the intended target. the pope was greeted by massive crowds. he's still set to visit the shrine outside of rio de janeiro

tomorrow. a flight touching down at laguardia airport. the front landing gear collapsing injuring as many as ten people. this morning, we are learning new details as to exactly what went wrong. wny reporter is live at laguardia with more. good morning, robert. >> reporter: heather, good morning to you. the runway is still plane is still sitting here on the runway. southwest flight 345 from nashville landed here at laguardia at 5:40 last night. according to the port authority, which operates this airport, there was no indication from the crew that anything was wrong before landing and passengers told us on board that they didn't know anything was wrong. the aircraft's nose gear collapsed immediately after landing. that sent the plane skidding down the runway and it came to rest in a grassy area about halfway down runway 4. people on the ground told us

they knew something was wrong. >> i saw him coming in. he was kind of low. he was not coming in like 3 degrees. >> the plane was coming and my husband noticed it was out of shape, like it wasn't supposed to land that way. >> reporter: according to the port authority, ten people were injured, six were taken to the hospital. there's no indication that any of those injuries are serious. live from laguardia, heather, back to you. >> robert mosses, thank you very much. a deadly fall shutting down a popular roller coaster. now six flags is taking extra precautions. what you need to know before visiting the amusement park. and then it really is a whale of a tale. a little break in the heatwave up here in the east coast in new york city, a little rain is falling as well. wiping things clean as we start your day. thank you for joining us. by the way, speaking of starting your day, the most important meal of the day. a new study finds that eating breakfast can help prevent a heart attack. in fact, researchers found that men who regularly skipped breakfast were 27% more likely to have an attack. experts think that it's because skipping breakfast makes you hungrier later in the day. people end up eating a bigger meal which leads to higher sugar levels and clogged arteries.

a brand-new report from sallie mae shows parents paid an average of $5700 from their income and savings for each child's tuition this past year. that's actually doin more than a third from 2009 to 2010. the money paid out of income and savings fell by 10%. the money woes is forcing more students to live at home. that's up 14% from just three years ago. texas police say a woman's deadly fall from a roller coaster appears to be a tragic accident. >> this as we are learning more about exactly what went wrong and what is being done now to make sure it never happens again. kdfw has the story from arlington. >> according to the medical examiner, rosy esparza died of

multiple traumatic injuries after falling from the 14-story roller coaster. at six flags over georgia, state inspectors conducted early inspections. in arlington, both german manufacturing and domestic teams of inspectors will look for clues into how the 52-year-old mother fell and whether any safety restraints failed. >> what starts out as a thrill intended to scare but not injure in the minds of the consumer ends up being a nightmare. >> reporter: dallas attorney frank branson has experience with amusement park accident claims but is not representing the esparza family. >> the insurance requirement

king. >> announcing the birth of the brand new boy, the prince of cambridge. >> he certainly looks official. this morning the world wants to know when will we get our first glimpse of the royal baby? we are live outside of st. mary's hospital. good morning, martha. >> reporter: good morning. and that is the question that everybody here wants to know as well, when will we see the new royal family, the duke and duchess of cambridge, prince william and his wife kate. nobody knows what the name of the child will be yet. lots of discussion of when that name might be announced. the baby will likely have a christian name and then three names after that. that's a typical tradition. it could be as early as today. a couple signs that things are happening here, we do know that

the doctor has been to see kate this morning. we also have learned that the royal hairdresser has gone in there and nothing is going to happen before she has a chance to take care of kate and make sure she's looking great. so it feels like things are happening here this morning. lots of security presence out front. family members are coming in to see the new royal baby, which is highly possible this morning as well. so we're watching it all very closely. we don't expect the queen to come. we expect that she will stay at buckingham palace. she is going to head to their family holiday in scotland which takes up most of the month of august. we will see possibly some family members come. as far as we know, the middleton family was not here last night and left the precious moments,

as any new parents know, the first few hours with your newborn child is a pretty special time. it appears that everyone kind of backed off and allowed them to have that time. today is a time for the whole country to celebrate all across the world. there are 16 nations in the commonwealth that are also celebrating the birth of their future heir to the throne. so there's a lot of celebration really all across the commonwealth this morning. >> martha, you mentioned when we could possibly find out this name. could you compare it for us, like how long did it take before we found out what william's name would be and then we had prince harry as well. typically, how long do we have to wait? >> reporter: it's interesting, heather, because william's name was announced one week after he was born. harry's name, prince harry came out the day that he was born. if you go back to prince charles, his name wasn't announced for an entire month. they do things differently here in england.

drunk driver. a suspect hit them head-on and then fled the scene. family and friends are heartbroken. >> the family is dealing with the shock and then i think will deal with the grief that goes with it. >> talking about her without crying. because i'm expecting her to come in to work. >> the suspect has since been caught and faces charges, including negligent homicide and felony dui. well, a can suspected copycat killer is being held on $6 million bond. the bodies of the three victims were all discovered wrapped in trash bags. officials have not been able to determine how they were killed. one victim was identified, though, as this woman, angela, missing since june 7th. officials are using dental records and dna samples to try and identify the other two

victims. in just one day, president obama will try to revive his stalled economic agenda, despite signs that the economy is still struggling. douglas is live in washington with more on this topic. hey, doug. >> good morning. the white house is hoping to wipe off the enthusiasm as he describes a major economic address tomorrow. the white house spokesman jay carney struggled to say what would be new. >> you will hear the president enunciate -- provide a vision of where we have been, where we are, and where we need to go. >> well, there is some good news to tell. despite some fits at the start, the housing market looks pretty good. jobs, though, is still a little fuzzy. there is job creation but more and more part-time jobs are replacing full-time ones.

critics suggest it's the communi community preparing for obama care because that's for people working more than 30 hours a week. >> as the economy recovers, people will be hiring in very small increments and increasing hours worked in very small increments. and so they will edge up to this decision and i suspect many of them will pause when they hit the obama care regulation. >> and that regulation really is just around the corner. there's no insurance exchanges opened in october. the individual mandate goes into effect on january 1st. ainsley? >> douglas, thank you. take a look at this. caught on camera. the moment thieves with sledgehammers smashed their way into a jewelry store in broad daylight. the store was packed with customers at the time, including families with irn which. the robbers were able to snatch

several bracelets and necklaces from the window. the thieves got away. a frightening encounter for two divers. >> [ bleep ]. [ bleep ]. >> could you imagine? this close encounter happening two miles off morro bay in california. they were feeding quite a distance away but soon found themselves in a swarm of sardines and closed to being swallowed by the whales. humpbacks weigh up to 40 tons. >> goodness, that is scary. nine months after superstorm sandy devastated new jersey, there is a baby boom. one alone saw a 34% bump in births so far this month, 171

babies have been born at mond monmouth medical center. much of the country bracing for extreme weather today. we could be seeing everything from severe thunderstorms to high temperatures in several areas and maria is joining us now with those details. >> good morning. let's see if you have any more baby-making weather across the u.s. we are talking hot temperatures. we're not expecting areas of rain across texas. you're talking extreme heat. 99 degrees will be the high in dallas and san antonio, factor in humidity and it's going to feel even hotter. take a look at the forecast through at least friday. upper 90s or even triple digits possible at times. when you add in the humidity, the heat index should be in the triple digits. across the northeast, we have plenty of watches and flooding currently in effect in

philadelphia. including that city early this morning you do need to plan to see delays on the roadway. you can see heavy rain swinging through upstate new york and into new england. new york city, you're dry at the moment. farther west, we have a severe weather risk, in parts of illinois, kansas, threat for severe storms out here. right now, pretty quiet. there is a line of storms. but damaging winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes are a concern as we head into later on in the day when the sun comes out and heat things up. again, later on, afternoon hours into the evening, you could be looking at a rough go out there in parts of the plains. >> okay. thank you, maria. good to see you this morning. >> you, too. it is now 42 past the hour. ryan braun admitting that he did cheat and this morning the possible fallout from that admission. and then a chopper spins out of control crashing into a river. the unbelievable ending that you have to see to believe.

million and the former national league mvp successfully appealed a 50-game doping ban back in 2012 and at that time strongly denied the allegations. >> if i had done this intentionally or unintentionally, i'd be the first one to step up and say i did it. by no means am i perfect but if i've ever made any mistakes in my life, i've taken responsibility for my actions. i truly believe in my heart and i would bet my life that this substance never entered my body at this point. >> that was then. this is now. this time braun is not denying it. he reportedly made a deal with mlb after he learned how much evidence linked him to a clinic in florida. >> i'm somewhat happy that this is over so we can move forward. i talked to ryan earlier on. i know that he's addressed the players in that regard. so our focus will be on the

>> it is now seven minutes till the top of the hour. a big change at fema. it's getting a thumbs down for disaster victims and will cost you millions of dollars. it's discontinuing its current temporary housing trailers which are 33 feet wide. the new trailers are nearly twice as wide and will cost you about $76 million. but a report from the

inspector general shows disaster victims prefer the smaller trailers. the reason? they're allowed to stay with them on their own property near their jobs, near their schools. the larger trailers are usually located in commercial areas. they also take longer to arrive for those families. >> could it soon be goodbye to the dollar bill? five senators and a consumer advocacy group pushing to replace it with a dollar coin. citizens against government waste say that the move could save $13.8 billion over 40 years. that's because of savings from printing and getting rid of old notes. you may remember americans failed to warm up to the susan b. anthony dollar coins from the 1970's. >> this just in, the leading lady that would make the best girlfriend? >> i think your friend hannah is really sexy. >> oh my god. you did not say that. how old are you? >> what are you?
