>> there you go. you're saying if you don't get it, demand it. avoid riots because of it. >> clever, neil. >> you said you had all day to work on this. >> had six months to do this. >> that will do it. hello, i'm dana perino with andrea tantaros, bob beckel who is not talking to eric, eric bolling, and brian kill immediate. this is "the five." there's a worldwide alert for americans traveling overseas in the wake of a new terror threat from al qaeda. the state department announced they're shutting 17 embassies most in the muslim world. current information suggests that al qaeda and affiliates may be planning attacks between now and end of august, possibly in the middle east or north africa. eric, this is an administration who is not afraid of a tv

camera, was given this news, how unprecedented it is, we were at the white house waiting for any sort of comment. look, empty, crickets, nothing out of washington. nothing from state department, nothing on dod, there was no comment. honestly, they announced the president ate breakfast. that's the announcement we get. today after this, we have absolutely nothing. it sounds very serious, are you skeptical? >> well, of course, wasn't a george zimmerman they could comment on and president obama could say he may have been trayvon martin 35 years ago. a lot of people are saying it is america's weakness, we're showing we're afraid of al qaeda, closing embassies. on the other hand, god forbid another attack happens and we weren't prepared and didn't vacate some people and heard these threats, a lot of us at
2:02 pm
this table would say we should have closed embassies. we have assets and fast response teams in spain, bahrain, italy, the marine expeditionary unit in the middle east ready to go. this is clearly by the size and scope of it, 21 embassies, 4 consulates, the scope of this tells you there's a credible threat. this is going to be something that they believe in nature, al qaeda and arabian peninsula likely. maybe it wasn't a bad idea to close some of these. >> it does, andrea, seem overbroad. maybe they have reason to because they have enough chatter to know something is going on, not sure, perhaps it is a way to draw out the terrorists, trying to figure out, pinpoint who it is. >> i hope that's it. it is one of two things. one, the threat is credible, it is serious, and the reason for the silence could be that this
2:03 pm
administration just a couple weeks ago during memorial day told us we were not at war with radical islam and there was no war on terror. they also used talking points in the 2012 campaign that al qaeda was decimated and that they were on the run. so i can understand why they don't want to answer questions. or, and this may be more conspiratorial, or they're sensitive on this issue, weak on this issue. new wrinkles on benghazi coming out, big issues we're going to get into later. this is bigger and blown up more than you think. >> what about the campaign when it was repeat that al qaeda is decimated, even though we said it is more -- is it back, resurgent? >> the original al qaeda has been decimated, but it has reformtd in the arraignian peninsula and a lot of people use the words al qaeda. a, i think they have credible
2:04 pm
chatter, and secondly because of benghazi. last thing they want is another of these things happen. remember after benghazi said on background if we had to do it over, we would have sent people in even if it wouldn't do anything. my guess is they picked up chatter, said no more benghazi. >> that's interesting. this past week the president and others in the administration have been saying benghazi is one of the phony scandals. if all of the phony scandals, like the doj investigation into james rosen for his investigative work, the irs scandal and now benghazi, if those, all three of those things actually changed policy in the administration, are they really so phony? >> no, in terms of phony scandals, first i thought we had a chance to talk in between, thought it was a mistake, saying the phony scandals, let's get back to building the middle class, and it wasn't. everyone is saying the term phony scandals. what i find serious about this,
2:05 pm
9/11 is coming up, 9/11 in 2012 was devastating, how many embassies were hit. and i think the most devastating thing in the last year, nothing happened to them. cover of inspire magazine has an american flag on the ground, al qaeda flag hanging over the egyptian embassy. is a was here ee's brother put out saying this was a victory for us. coming up on victory two. never punched back and that matte matters. did we push back? >> killed them with drones. >> those guys are hanging out. >> we are in retreat, islam is on the march, of course they recalibrated it, you mentioned, bob, al qaeda is a brand, you don't have to be part of a terrorist cell. you can be radicalized whether in boston or bahrain. >> how can you say we're in
2:06 pm
retreat? i don't know where you get the substance of that. >> we have a president that refuses to acknowledge on memorial day that we are at war with radical islam. he refuses to say the words, he actually is in denial. we are pulling forces out of the middle east. didn't scramble jets when we could have. he calls the deaths of four americans fake. i can go on. >> specifics to this one, approaching the end of ramadan, night of power coming up, also a 20 year anniversary august 7th of an attack that killed many at embassies around the world. maybe in abundance of caution. >> the president's birthday. >> and it is not just embassy staff being warned, americans traveling overseas, make sure you look at the state department warnings because it does say especially if transportation type things, making sure you
2:07 pm
take care of yourself, be on the lookout, that warning through the end of ramadan. >> they also have a special day, if there's a full moon during ramadan. >> night of power. >> that's apparently a very big deal. >> for the power rangers. >> that's -- have you kept yours together? >> still on ebay. >> benghazi as andrea said, eric, there are developments, cnn is reporting there may have been, they are reporting that there were dozens of cia operatives on the ground during the benghazi attack, this is a secret arms dealing situation, gun running, want to be quiet. >> two issues, that there were cia on the ground, several dozen what they say, may have been gun running, whatever you want to call it to some syrians, i guess, is that right?
2:08 pm
however there's something more insidious about this. in the aftermath of that, they have been sworn to secrecy, told to take lie detector tests, not allowed to speak to anyone, they're fearful not only of their own safety but their family's safety. it is almost like they're living in a regime, in a dictatorshidi >> i want to read a statement from the cia today. dean boyd, kind of a blast from my past, used to work with me in the bush administration said cia employees are always free to speak to congress if they want to and there is no established process to facilitate such communication on a confidential basis. the cia enabled all officers voz h involved in benghazi the opportunity to meet with congress. bob, you know how that works, if you want to talk to members of congress, there's a special procedure you can go through. where do you think the truth lies in this? >> i think most were there in
