alike say the closing of the embassies is a prudent step to take. the chatter about a possible attack is very similar to what we saw before 9/11 and some say it points to a growing danger of terrorism. >> this is a wakeup call. al qaeda is in in ways stronger than it was because it can mutate and spread and come out of different areas. it's probably the most deadly of all. >> 20 closed today and a worldwide travel alert has been issued for americans abroad. >> we need to protect the people who are out there representing us. we need to know and realize we're living in an increasingly dangerous world, and this specific threat that we've been breached on other and other again has reach add new level. >> lawmakers say they don't know the specific method or location of the planned attack but it could be timed to coincide with the end of the muslim holy days.

back to you. >> steve secentanni from our washington bureau. congressman, what can you tell us so far? >> well, the reporting that we've heard today has been fairly accurate as far as what we can say, but it is -- it is true that this specific threat has been brought to the intelligence committee's attention over the last several weeks, and it isn't something that we see on our regular briefings. it's something very specific and something that if i had plans to travel to certain places in the middle east, i would probably go ahead and such. >> it's that dire. >> it's that dire. we have signals intelligence as well as human intelligence which

tells us certain things which lead us to believe that something may or may not occur. i mean this is much more specific than anything we saw before benghazi or boston. so this is in tune with 9/11/01 with regard to the chatter. we have to be diligent. i know people were talking on "fox news sunday" that it's disruptive from closing the embassies. but guess what? we're trying to prevent a catastrophe. if it's going to disrupt certain activities for the day, it just has to happen. >> what have you seen over the years in terms of progress toward actually thwarting these kinds of threats from al qaeda? are we doing a sufficient job? at one point we were hearing from the president that al qaeda was basically on the run, dismantled, but now we're seeing al qaeda on the arabian

peninsula based in yemen is apparently trying to mount a comeback because we're seeing these threats now. >> yeah. certainly -- they never went away. they say al qaeda was dismantled, which was false. they're organized. we certainly did a good job in afghanistan taking away the camps and the like, but they regroup elsewhere such as yemen or other places where the government isn't as organized or has a relationship with the united states. it was only a matter of time before, you know, they would get back to the point where they were and had been in the past. but we have done a good job. let's be very clear. there's been numerous attempts at terrorism that have been thwarted over the last ten years under president bush and under president obama where our intelligence community has saved lives and kept people out of harm's way. there's been a few misses like

boston or benghazi where things we should have known or should have done, we made huge mistakes in benghazi when it came to protecting our ambassador and the consulate. but in the grand scheme of things with regard to the things we've been able to do in the intelligence world in stopping threats, it's been very successful. >> so you brought up benghazi. do you think that's why we're so proactive in getting this resolves right now? they could afear to be soft targets to al qaeda operatives. >> i hope it's part of the reason. like i said before, this threat is much more specific than anything we had going into benghazi. benghazi, we should have known because it was the anniversary of 9/11 and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that an embassy in benghazi is the day

that the bad guys like to take a pop shot at us. that was a no-brainer and we left our ambassador vulnerable in my opinion. this is much more specific. this is based on intelligence gathering and specific -- a specific act, so it's much more -- it's a bigger threat in my opinion than we had going into last year. but, yeah, we always have to learn and we always have to get better and we always have to be more diligent and hopefully that's what's going to stop or prevent this attack from being carried out. >> and we should be diligent at home. thank you very much for sharing that with us. >> thank you, kelly. fox news alert. a sad story out of california. a driver turns his car on unsuspected pedestrians. there's some video that captured

some news out of iran for you. they're swearing in their new president this week. hassan rowhani promising more. today the white house said it is willing to work with iran to find a peaceful solution over its contentious nuclear program. now, there's been a lot of talk about this new president as being someone who's more moderate, but religious clerics holding the real power in tehran who endorsed him, the question is whether or not he'll actually be able to act independently of them. could real progress be made? joining us is dan gillimam. good morning, ambassador. let's get right to it. what's your impression of this new president? >> good morning, jamie.

well, you know, my impression is that there's a new guy in town, but that new guy is just a puppet on the string of those extreme fundamentalists/clerics who have ruled iran for decades and made it into the world's main harbor, perpetrator, silencer of terror. iran wants to rule the muslim world. it wants to rule it by terrorizing civilization as we know it and therefore i think that we shouldn't be in anyway confused byf the rhetoric. the real rulers are extreme people who have nothing in mind but havoc, terror, and destruction toward israel, toward the u.s., toward civilization as we know it.

>> sajss have been very effective, ambassador, in hurting the economy in iran, and i'm sure there's pressure on the government to get them to go away, to lessen them in some way and that might be something to work toward. one quotes him as saying where israel is concerned in the western world, israel is a wound to iran in the middle east and then the state news agency came out and corrected it and said that's not really how he feels. how will we know if as you say the ayatollah is still in control? >> well, he did say israel is a wound, but i think their main intention is not to wound us but to kill us and we obviously are not going to wait until they're ready to do it. sanctions have worked, they have hurd the iranian economy and the

people. i'm sure the iranian people, too, are fed up with the ayatollah's rule and want to live in a democratic society. the real question is do we have time? do we have time for people to overthrow the government? do we have time for the sanctions to work? the clock is ticking and iran is becoming nearer and nearer to becoming a nuclear power. this is something the world can neither afford or allow to happen and therefore i think the u.s. should set a very clear deadline for iran and say, look, comply or else and make sure that iran realizes that if it doesn't comply, all options including a military option is on the table and israel is watching this very carefully. you know, we've just entered into peace talks. we hoped to reach agreement with the palestinians, but we will not let anything avert frus the real danger which is a nuclear iran which we will not allow to happen.

if all else fails, we will react so this horrible danger to the world does not materialize. >> put it in perspective for us if you can, ambassador. iran still denies that they have a nuclear power program, that it's just for peaceful means. starting with that, what are the chances that they'll be able to bring them to the table for talks and more disclosure about what's really going on? >> well, there's really very little going on. t they're masters at fooling the clock. they'll be happy to come to the table, understand the plan and nuclear program in order to become a nuclear power. the iaea, the international atomic energy agency and others have said time and time again

that iran is on the quest for nuclear weapons, they're doing so by hiding it, trying to fool the world, but i think the world after having been fueled by pakistan and north korea, waking up to those two rogue regimes who have nuclear weapons, should not in any way take a chance with this horrible islamic regime to obtaining nuclear weapons. it would not be just a threat to israel. it would be a threat to the world. it would be a horribly dangerous world and we should not get close to it. therefore, we should watch the clock closely. iran is nearly there. once it reaches the point of no return, it will be too late. the united states has to act and make it very clear to iran there's a real deadline and ultimatum they must meet. if not, israel will have to act, either on its own, something we prefer not to do.

well, another new concern over obama care. a group of democratic governors implement thee nervous law before its end of the year

deadline and this adds to a growing chorus of concern. matt shlap is under president bush and good to have you both joining us today. julie and matt, let me read something real quickly from dr. john hickenlooper who is a democrat of colorado. he says any time you go and make this much change in the short period of time, it does cause headaches, but then he goes on to say, julie, that it leads -- the pain also leads to progress. what say you about this? >> i think he's right. the bottom line is a lot of these governors have chosen to implement obama care. for example, i'm sitting here in new york as a new york resident. governor andrew cuomo has implemented exchanges and it's going to lower it by 50%.

they're going to hopefully have a program in place for the residents that are going to lead to massive, massive cuts in premiums and i think it's great for people living in those states. >> matt, julie was talking about obstruction alluding to republicans. what are the republicans looking at in terms of obama care? why do they want it knocked down? >> well, because it's going to harm health care delivery in this country. it's obvious. why do you think the head of this the three -- why did congress have to go and come up with a compromise to fix the problem that their employees and members had. why are we seeing the head of the irs who has to implement obama care saying that he doesn't have to implement itself. this is not republican voices

saying this law is a disaster. these are liberal voices and it's going to hurt health care in the country and republicans are right to find it. >> go ahead. >> i'll be happy to answer every single one of those. the head of the irs because he's got the law, he's got great health care plan he gets to keep as does anybody who likes the health care plan gets to keep it. remember congress wants to waver both democrats and republicans. they have to potential guy l i go without health care. they get the cadillac plan nobody else gets except member of congress. there's a lot of other perks they get the rest of us don't get. so on and so forth. the problem with the republican plan is they want to refund the obama care and other cares. you can be negative, try to fight it. come up with a proposal, a plan. it was actually endorsed

originally by the heritage foundation. i thought those were conservative ideas and all of a sudden republicans after screaming they want more in the marketplace, the ability to compete, all of a sudden they don't like the very propoelsal they came up with immediately. that to me says there's no ideology other than wanting to see barack obama fail. >> matt, what about that? those are striking charges? >> i applaud julie reading the talking points. >> it's not talking points at all. >> the fact is liberals, they're all putting up white flags saying we have mayor, major problems with the law. the president knows there are major problems with the law. there's only one segment of the country that doesn't have to follow the time line on obama care. only one segment.

>> that ought to be delayed as well if we're all being honest. >> both of you are making good arguments and good talking points about what should be done, but should bit a situation where we're looking at this law and we mend it and not end it? >> well, i don't know exactly how republicans want to mend it and not end it. there are people who say they doenld need health care because they don't think they'll get sick. it will raise premiums for everybody else. that is a fundamental conservative principle by the way. that's a principle that was spoused. all of a sudden here comes barack obama and it's a horrible, horrible principle, the same principle they espoused for them. >> what will the republicans do when they return in five weeks and they have to deal with the

budget stalemate that's going on and the obama care. what will they do? >> unlike julie, i'll actually offer minor criticism to my own team. just fighting it is not enough. we have to have our own proposal. when it comes to the budget, i think republicans are going to continue to point out to the american people who continue to not support obama care in poll after poll after poll that they're going to be the party that fights for obama care and they're going to deliver the best health care system. they're going to fight obama care and it's something that they're standing there with them on. >> and, again, getting back to my initial question, do you mend it or amend it. >> >> i they have to amend it but the republicans will make a mistake if they don't fix questions like pre-existing conditions, what do we do about the junk people hitting the job

force and there's no health care out there. julie's right. the heritage foundation and other conservative voices were there. we have to make sure they fight it. >> julie, last word. >> at the oepd testify day republicans have voted 40 times to repeal obama care without any success. >> they all want to get rid of it. >> no, they don't. the irs don't -- >> they document want have to be put in it. that's the beauty of this plan. the other issue with the unions -- they don't want to get rid of obama care. u think obama will hopefully address that component but you have 40 repeals by the house of representatives. these guys have no solution

it just seems right, you know. that's what you want to do, nothing else. >> you were on your way, john, to live that way and you found out even though you qualified for the academy, you dropped to the bottom of the list. >> explain the rule of how that happened. >> we initially applied for the points and were awarded them and then we were told there's a difference between line of duty and administrative line of duty, which was the 9/11 call. we're not trying to reinvent the wheel or change the designation of his death but we believe line of duty is line of duty. we are competing. >> 13 ores that you know of.

alteration. what's frustrating is the children of emt workers received the points. >> so emergency management personnel that responded on 9/11 to look for victims, survivors, or even the deceased do get the legacy points. >> their children get it. it wows be bureaucratic oversight. even if you observe the law it states that the reason the law was enacted was to give the childrems. >> are you not getting any benefits? >> this is the big one. >> what does the fire department say? what do the other guys at the house where your dad serves say? >> we're haeping with anything they can do. they're a full support system without putting themselves in any kind of jeopardy.

>> we've got to the point, it's there. >> do me a fash, look into the camera, john and michael. i'm sure we'll echo your thoughts and tell us about your dad and why it's so important that governor cuomo take a look at this. >> my father served this city for 27 years. my grandfather for 22 years before him. i could do nothing better than just plead with you to sign this. all we're -- we're begging you for a job. we're asking you for the ability to continue to serve as the fam has two generations prior. i said before some families are lock smiths, some families are plumbers. our families are firefighters. that's all we do. >> you both have good jobs. you want to give up your good jobs to be a firefighter. what would he say about all this? >> he'd definitely be proud of us. he'd be happy no matter what we
