thanks for the details. now to another big story that we're following for you this morning. the latest on the crisis in syria and it appears that president obama may be ready to make a military move there. that's because he has reportedly

ordered a declassified report justifying a strike there. kelly wright has the latest for us. >> reporter: it's very serious indeed. the united states says the chemical attack sun denile. president obama therefore is indicating that he may order a military strike against syria to punish the regime for crossing the so-called red line, inflicting harm on its own people by using the world's most heinous weapons. john kerry says the attack goes beyond the conflict in syria. he says serious actions to use chemical weapons should shock the conscience of the world. >> let me be clear. the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, killing of women and children and innocent bystanders by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. by any standard, it is inexcusable and despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is

undeniable. >> reporter: in fact u.n. inspectors on the ground in syria had to take cover as some snipers fired on one of their vehicles. the action prompting more outrage towards the syrian regime which has blocked inspectors entry for five days. >> united states armed forces doesn't exist to be a policeman for the world and i certainly hope the reaction isn't simply lobbying cruise missiles into disagree with as sad owing's murderous actions. our concern should be those chemical weapons present -- preventing them from falls into the hands of hezbollah and aed. >> reporter: senator ted cruz there. john bolton says he thinks the president has a real credibility problem at this point in time. in his own mind, if he doesn't do something about this, and the do something about this, and the president has to take a strategic effect if you will by the use of military force and likely that that will take place.

>> all right. we'll see. kelly wright skrojoining us liv this morning. it was a tragic end, the search for an arizona teenager who was believed to be inspired by the movie into the wild. 18-year-old jonathan croom was found dead last night. police think he committed suicide. his body was found not too far away from his vehicle which was abandoned last week in oregon. he was supposed to start college in arizona ten days ago but never showed up. a brave little girl who captured the heart of the entire nation is finally going home. sarah murnaghan expected to be released from the hospital today more than two months after her lung transplants. she was dying of cystic fibrosis when her family successfully fought the rules that kept her off the transplant list. she has been taken off oxygen, but she still uses a machine that helps her to breathe. she's also walking short

distances with a walker. in just a few hours, day two of the sentencing phase for ft. hood shooter major hasan gets under way. yesterday the prosecution called more than a dozen witnesses to testify including one soldier that was shot several times during that 2009 shooting rampage. the former army psychiatrist was convicted last week on all charges brought against him. he could face the death penalty for the killings of 13 people. george zimmerman will ask the state of florida to reimburse him $300,000 for his legal bills. the neighborhood watch volunteer who was found not guilty in the february 2012 shooting death of trayvon martin owes more than $1 million to his attorneys. now, state statute allows defendants who win their cases to recoup legal costs associated with their case. and that would be on top of the estimated $900,000 public agencies have already spent on zimmerman's five week trial. and now to an extreme weather alert. fire crews say that they have

made some progress against that raging wildfire near yosemite national park. still more than 234 square miles have burned. roughly the size of the city of chicago. now look at this dramatic picture. you can see the went whipping those flames above the sequoia trees which are the largest living organisms on earth. >> and more than 3,000 men and women are inside those flames where the heat can reach more than 800 degrees. firefighters are also struggling to protect a huge reservoir in san francisco. it supplies 85% of the city's water and is being slowly polluted with ash. melina has the conditions that are fueling the flames. >> thankfully the weather conditions aren't too bad. we even have a slight chance to see some rainfall. but the problem is the steep mountains doesn't help firefighters put out the wildfires. and also the actual wildfire itself is creating its own weather pattern. so we're actually seeing strong

wind gusts being generated by some of the tall smoke columns. but something else we have an eye on and of course drought conditions ongoing out here across parts of california, severe to even extreme drought just to the east of areas in california. but again, we do have a slight chance to see areas of rain and just outside of that region across parts of the rim fire, we actually have flood watches in effect across southern california, nevada, parts of utah and even western sections of the state of arizona because we're talking several inches of rain possible out here throughout the day today. farther east in parts of the great lakes and even in to the ohio valley, you'll see showers and thunderstorms and some of those storms could actually produce severe weather, damaging winds and large hail being possible especially during the afternoon hours. meanwhile parts of the plains staying on the hot side, 9 th6 h in minneapolis, 97 in rapid city. and of course you add in the humidity and it feels every hotter. still summer out there. >> thanks so much.

well, at least 2 it 1 cases of the measles have been linked to a megachurch in texas. health officials expect that number to go up. the outbreak started when someone visited the church who contracted that disease overseas. officials say the sick range in age from 4 months for 44 years old and a majority of them are not vaccinated because the church advocates faith healing before seeking medical attention. it is a grim warning from treasury secretary jack lew. he says congress must act by mid october or we will hit the nation's debt ceiling. that is $16.7 trillion. so what happens if lawmakers don't raise the debt ceiling? lew says the government will only have $50 billion in cash left. he says that may not be enough to cover social security or medicare payments and military salaries. news out of syria might seem so far away and like it doesn't directly affect you. but guess what, it could be

affecting your wallet. for more on this this and your other top business stories, let's turn to fox business network's jolene kemp with the latest. the ongoing cost of the potential conflict in syria is now affecting the markets. the dow closed down 64 points on monday after secretary of state john kerry indicated the u.s. could launch a military response after finding undeniable evidence chemical weapons have been used. oil markets also fluctuated eventually rising, as well. brent crude oil prices hit a five month high on monday rising to $111.68 a barrel. analysts say further increases in prices will be leimited so long as infrastructure is not jeopardiz jeopardizeded. and looking to upgrade your iphone? and looking to upgrade your it might be easier this fall. apple is expected to roll out its own trade-in program for the first time. the company is preparing to go

live next month and work a lot like existing trade-in programs that you see at your cell phone providers. but doing it in-store, apple could increase the number of iphones sold. during their most recent earnings conference call, tim cook said he wasn't against it and pointed to a positive environmental benefit associated with more trade-ins. they're expected to launch two new iphones on september 10. and a new survey by the american consumer satisfaction index says consumers like asian brands like toyota and honda more than american car brands. the gap between the detroit three and asian automakers is now widening. european brands come out on top with 85 points in the ratings followed by asian brands like toyota and honda at 84. and then american brands like gm, ford, chrysler down at 82. the industry average clocks in at 83 points. the declines to ford, gm and chrysler do not yet have an impact on sales, but analysts say if they slip further, it could be a problem.

murnaghan has been waiting for, the brave 11-year-old girl who underwent two lung trants heads home today. stephanie he esposito is live outside children's hospital in philadelphia with more. >> reporter: it is the day with many people here in philadelphia and across the country have been waiting no. we've been tracking this story since june when sarah murnaghan's family started a very public campaign to get their little girl a new set of lungs. and after several risky surgeries, sarah is headed home today. she is taking her first steps after surgery, but sarah was dieing from cystic fibrosis, she was in dire need of a double lung transplant and the reason that her story made international headlines is because donor rules kept her from getting on to an adult transplant list because of her age, she have only 11. that rule was suspended, she got her lungs. she actually got two lung trance plaptss after the first one

keon adams kinard will be in a courtroom. he will be tried as an adult and faces life behind bars for first-degree murder and robbery. he was caught early yesterday morning after a manhunt in washington state. where? hiding in a basement apartment. kinard's father defending his son. >> he's a very good kid and i'm proud of him and i'm not giving up on him. no matter what, they can't tell me my son is a killer and i know he's not. >> the other suspect demetrius glenn was in court yesterday. he's being held on $2 million bond. he surrendered to police last week. glenn also being tried as an adult for first glee murddegree robbery. >> you do the crime, you serve the time. i hope they understand the magnitude of what they did. that they are somewhat sorry or. >> well, police now say the teenagers beat belton into

submission with flashlights simply because the 88-year-old veteran tried to defend himself. and belton's daughter-in-law says the savages left him bleeding from every part of his face. awful. well, a 24-year-old man went in for a routine procedure just to get his wisdom teeth pulled. you but he ended up dying in the dentist's chair. an autopsy revealing that he was given six different kinds of sedatives. he went into cardiac arrest at the dental office and then later died at the hospital. his mother wants the surgeon to be held accountable. >> i don't want anybody else to have to go through what we have gone through. it is an absolutely senseless mistake. there was not a thing any emt, any surgeon, anybody at any hospital was going to do. everything that happened took place in that office. >> so far the doctor has not yet

rabies. experts say that a wolf attack is extremely rare. this morning president obama mulling over his options on syria as the administration builds its case for a military strike there. doug has the latest for us this morning. >> and right now the most likely scenario would appear to be cruise missile attacks launched from u.s. destroyers parked right off the coast of syria. u.n. inspectors are continuing their work in syria trying to determine if in fact chemical weapons were used there. at one point they were turned away yesterday after sniper fire head one of their vehicles. but at this stage, their determination may not really matter all that much. u.s. secretary of state john kerry yesterday began to make the case for war. >> what we saw in syria last week should shock the conscience of the world. it defies any code of morality.

phoenix area. >> it rolled through during rush hour yesterday. along with winds over 60 miles an hour, rain and hail. no reports of any injuries or major damage. just apparently a few uprooted trees. but thousands did lose power. maria has more on what you can expect as you leave the house. >> and that dust storm is actually called a haboob. so that's the technical term for that storm system. and it's basically just a thunderstorm that produces a downdraft and picks up some dust and you you start to see poor visibility ahead of that storm system, so that's something that does happen across parts of arizona, new mexico. so anywhere across parts of the desert southwest. we could be actually seeing more of that type of activity and these storms can produce wind gusts in excess of 60 miles an hour and near zero visibility. you're actually supposed to pull over if you are on the roads during these storms and actually try to turn your lights off because you don't want that light to reflect across some of
