israel, the jordanians and others and not prepared to discuss the specifics of what they may or may not do in the context of prospective military operations against the assad regime, but wet closely with them. >> one senior u.s. defense official says the possibility of also using air assets is also part of the range of options presented to the president. that could include b-52 and b-2 bombers. basically that means it's a longer and larger strike than earlier anticipated. it could last for days. this while the president attend the g-20 summit in russia. there is also activity here on the hill as to future congressional involvement. the senate foreign relations committee did pass a resolution on wednesday but other lawmakers in the house say they still don't think that proposal is the right answer. >> it's completely against this resolution. it always has been against this resolution. now the media is starting to report that. people here listen to their

constituents. first of all, public opinion is entirely against it. secondly, public opinion is vehemently against it. >> we do have new information for you. the "wall street journal" is citing intercepted iranian communications threatening a retaliation attack against the u.s. interests in baghdad should the u.s. carry out any military strikes in syria. obviously a lot more to come on this story. >>brian: you thought there might have been disarray in the battle plan. then it turns out the president is personally changing it. >>steve: 50 times. >>brian: he having to revitalize the battle plan. the syrians also moved their stuff around into malls and civilian areas. >>gretchen: we speculated they would do that when someone was releasing the details of what the plan might be. that is what they are going to do is move their stuff around. one of the reasons they might be changing this 50

times is not just because the president appears to be dithering with his decision but who the heck are these syrian rebels? now reports are coming out that they're talking about using chemical weapons if in fact they get into power and that they are not so nice and to be trusted as john mccain has said now that we should trust them. could that be why we're changing the game plan so many times? >>steve: there is video floating around that shows the rebels talk about how they have used chemical weapons in the past. and that comes on the heels of the fact that the "new york times" ran this story yesterday showing these rebels who we're going to help supposedly assassinating a number of government soldiers. john kerry went to capitol hill and said the extremists are why we must strike syria now because if we don't there will be more extremists. so you've got to vote no. so he's admitting they are extremists. and they have estimated, the administration, between 15% and 25% of them are

extremists, the rebels. the worry is do we, the united states, want to be al qaeda's air force? >>brian: that is what dennis cues -- dennis kucinich said. dianne feinstein said we know assad's forces have struck between 11 and 15 times. they were doing little attacks to see the wherein world's reaction. we have done nothing. so they go for the big attack and are waiting to see if we do anything. if you count hand or noses, as they say, in the house, they're not close to having enough votes to pass. you talk about humiliating, the obama administration's hope of doing anything for the next three years fail if they fail. >>gretchen: the important point on that whole thing is it is not just republicans. there are plenty of democrats who are also not in favor. there are mostly democrats. so that's an important

point to point out is that it's not just falling on party lines. keep in mind, a lot of these senators and whomever are up for reelection. they are going home and having town hall meetings and by four to one, five to one, six to one, their constituents are saying they don't want to do that. they are in a bind. >>steve: we're going to talk to people who were at a e'twaun meeting who surprised john mccain. there are members of the mainstream media, a reporter at the state department yesterday essentially asked a tough question for a change. the question was this: why is john kerry going around saying that the president was courageous in asking congress to authorize the strike on syria? courageous? kwraeupblgs? -- courageous? >> a spine removal op procedure at the white house over the weekend?

i don't understand. how is this courageous? >> matt, obviously the president has the authority to act without the cooperation of congress, but the president and the secretary strongly agreed that when the administration and the people's representatives stand together that strengthens our case. >>steve: she didn't answer the case. >>brian: this is what is happening. the senate, if they are not going to get 60 votes if they pass it. in the house it is not close. nancy pelosi, leader of the democrats in the house, says i'll vote for it i think, but i wish the case was stronger. and i refuse to put any pressure on fellow democrats. so if this thing falls, does the president go forward and attack any way? then this whole thing has been a charade we've been covering for the last ten days, a debate that might as well have been spitting into the wind which is not a good thing if you're a young child. it goes back in your face. here's the thing.

we're approaching commemoration of 9/11 which drew us into a war against al qaeda, and we're about to help al qaeda take over syria and create more regional problems and problems for the whole world? right now al qaeda is attacking christian villages. there were some things on fox yesterday about that. they're executing people who are captives. this is a moment which calls for clear thinking on the part of congress. but the american people are already clearly understanding what's going on. we're being rushed into war without sufficient proof, and it's not in the national interest. you're going to put another war on a credit card. we're already in debt. we've got budget problems. what is this all about? that is the question people are asking everywhere. >>brian: assad has been an enemy of the u.s. for decades now. they have american blood on their hands with the iraqi insurgency.

you know if it wasn't for syria hezbollah would not be thriving, perhaps wouldn't have blown up our marines in 1983. regardless, syria has it coming to them. however, to your point there is a percentage of the rebels that are al qaeda and chemical weapons have been used against whoever the rebels are. do we just allow people to use chemical weapons and say we're tired of war? >> wait a minute. we don't want -- there's already reports out there that the rebels have used chemical weapons. let me just back up a minute. if anyone says syria has it coming to them and that's like one of the arguments that's coming out of washington, the syrian people have already been involved in a civil war at the loss of life. we're going to compound that, we would be injecting ourselves into a civil war with the leading edge of the civil war being al qaeda and we would be helping al qaeda knock over a country which, by the

way, for all the faults of that government -- and there are many -- it's a secular government. they have found a way to have different and diverse religious groups exist without killing each other. >>brian: that's true. in 30 years, as you know, the father of assad killed people when they decided to rise up. that is one way to keep them in line. >> i'm not for killing anybody. >>brian: you can't cloud syria's background. they hardly were a smooth-running machine before. >> you're looking at the guy who led the effort to try to stop us from going into war in iraq because they didn't make the case; okay? they haven't made the case to the american people. >>brian: that is true. >> this is about america. this is about us first. it's not about all the bad guys around the world. there are plenty of bad guys around the world. we can spend the rest of the american budget fighting bad guys around

the world. we've got to stand up for america and do what's right for america. >>brian: the president is getting urged by everybody to make a prime time address and explain it all. you have a lot of people on your side finally. if the president does not get the votes in the congress and bombs any way, where are we as a country? >> first of all, we don't need a speech. we need the truth. this manner of selling a war is unfortunate. and if the president, despite congress's disapproval and the american people certainly don't want this war, if the congress votes against it and the president goes forward with a war any way, we're looking at a constitutional crisis, the likes of which we have not seen in the united states and where a president would act in defiance of the congress as direct representatives of the people. i don't know if we're going to get to that. but i will tell you this, the effort to try to sell this war is in and of itself worthy of

>> incredibly popular. feminism is incredibly popular. i would say if they were approached about it and said no they would be seen as sexist. to teach students just because something is done by males that automatically means it is sexist, that is an unfound argument. >>steve: if people tried to put feminist thinking into an article and it is accurate, you're okay with that, aren't you? >> i guess but it's factual technical articles about technology. i don't understand how exactly you could enter feminism and social justice into these factual articles. >>steve: good point. if this was -- if any other subject aside from feminism was -- do you think there would be outrage? >> there would be outrage. imagine if a conservative group was saying they were going to do this. there would be absolute outrage. especially on our college campuses there is so much liberal bias and it is

own surgical equipment. they don't rent it. you do not see it very often. the issue here with this kind of disease, even if you sterilize the surgical equipment you don't necessarily get rid of it. that is the concern. it is something called the pryon disease. we all have them in our brain. they can mutate and they can become something that is contagious. most of the time that change occurs spontaneously, like a mutation, 85% of the time. 15% of the time it is inherited. it is rare to get it from surgical equipment like this. >>steve: usually what they do is they realize somebody has that disease, they throw all the stuff away? >> absolutely. there is 300 cases a year of this. rarely does it spread like this. you're operating on the brain. it is something called spongeform which means under a microscope it looks like a sponge. i don't want to go into too

much detail but it makes the brain something like a sponge and you lose your memory and is deadly. >>gretchen: when they're operating on these people, are they operating because they know they have this already or they open them up for something else and they're like they have that protein, we better get rid of the equipment? >> excellent question. they don't know. they would operate if somebody is deteriorating quickly. they might do a biopsy. it is only when the pathologist gets it. in new hampshire it hasn't been proven it. the idea of renting equipment is wild. >>brian: what would you like to see public health officials do being this is so rare and so deadly? >> i want people out there to know you're not going to get this from the air. someone was asking me can you get this from the operating room in the air? no. this is very, very hard to

class. this is the way he started off the day? >> yeah, pretty much, just about ten, 15 minutes. really they're supposed to go over a brief overview of the class and let us out. but then he just started going off. >> gretchen: this is an eight-minute rant, william penn, a highly touted professor there. why did you decide to start recording it? >> i really couldn't believe it was happening at first. i knew i couldn't -- this kind of hate speech was -- i couldn't allow this to go on, especially when students are paying thousands of dollars to learn about literature, they shouldn't have to sit through a political rant day in and day out, no matter ha their political beliefs are. >> gretchen: to me, it went farther than just a political rant. he attacked mitt romney and ann romney and the gop in general. he said they were racist. he talked about racism and how republicans don't like black people. did he also attack christians and athletes? >> not to my knowledge, no.

>> gretchen: because there is another account of a young woman who was sitting in the front row and apparently she frowned during his rant and then he started talking about her and saying that if she want add better grade in the class, she should stop frowning. did you hear that? >> not that -- if she wanted a better grade, no, i didn't. >> gretchen: you have gone on record as saying that you actually have written some of your papers with a more liberal slant because you believe you'll get a better grade? >> yes. that's true. just one or two. i've only -- this is start of my sophomore year. so i haven't been writing papers in college for too long. >> gretchen: but evan, isn't that dispinting in your own heart if you don't believe that? >> it's a sign of the times, i suppose. i shouldn't have to, but that's where we're at. >> gretchen: so this professor has now been taken away from his teaching duties. there's a statement, his student

horrible story, a brooklyn teen has died. he was killed when his remote control helicopter struck him in the head. a witness says 19-year-old roman lost control of the chopper and then he was sliced by the blades of it. friends say he had a lot of experience with this model. he even had a youtube channel dedicated to his flights. the model he was flying had blade speeds up to 250 miles per hour. new court documents revealing more incriminating evidence against two teens accused of beating the world war ii veteran to death. the suspects' fingerprints were found inside and outside the man's car where he was killed. the two 16-year-olds will be arraigned next week. they face murder charges. they are going to be tried as adults. look at the shocking sight. imagine you're watching the airport in houston. people there watched a southwest jet take off with its cargo door wide open. several minutes into the flight, the indicator light came on just then. the pilot turned around. no one was hurt and no word on why the door wasn't closed.

forget the internet. one man using chicago's busiest interstate to find a little smooch. businessman gordon angle dropped $5,000 on this massive billboard that says, i'm gordon. let's have dinner. he bought it after getting frustrated with on-line dating. so far he's had 20 solid applications. can we get a tight shot of that? i guess not. what else does it say? does it say to go to a web site and not his phone number? >> steve: if he wants to attract professional truckers, stuff like that, gordon has found his market. good luck, gordon. >> brian: for us, let's think of bigger things. a news alert. the he pentagon official telling fox news the situation in syria is so fluid, military officials have revised their plans 50 times on behest of the president and his staff. joining us from washington, elizabeth prann. hey, elizabeth. >> good morning. the more we learn about a possible strike, the more we

learn of shifting scenarios. reportedly up to 50 times. one defense official says they're now looking into using air assets that could include b-52 and b 2 bombers. that mean it could be a longer strike than earlier anticipated. as the plans do shift, the department of defense remains adamant there will be no boots on the ground. >> i'm not getting into specific planning. we're not contemplating boots on the ground in syria. i will say to this section of the audience, there are no plans for boots on the ground when it comes to military operations that we're contemplating right now. there are no boots on the ground plans right now. >> this along the same time we're hearing reports of a possible training plan for syrian opposition in jordan. the pentagon says the training of the rebels is not part of any limited air strikes being

considered. but how much is this all going to cost? defense secretary hagel said this week the cost could be in the tens of millions of dollars. but the chief of naval operations, whose ships would be called to carry out limited strikes, is advertising a different price tag. >> a carrier strike group operating out there will cost you in extended operations, i'm talking about a lot of flying going on as opposed to routine flying. will cost you about $40 million a week. if it isn't flying that much, routine, it's about $25 million a week. >> officials are wary of any consequences. the "wall street journal" is citing iranian communications threatening retaliation attacks against any u.s. interest in baghdad should the u.s. carry out any military strikes in syria. gretchen, steve, brian, back to you. >> steve: thank you. pay back. one of the president's other problems is with his own party.

there are many, i would say a majority of democrats in the u.s. house that simply do not want to go along with what the president is suggesting. alan grayson, who was relie detectorred to congress from florida, not long ago, says that the intel that the administration is presenting has been manipulated so that we will go to war. so i guess he wants the syrian resolution to die quickly. also code pink is lining up against the president. move on.org is lining up against the president. vote vets.org lining up against the president. they don't want what the president wants this time. >> gretchen: the interesting analysis is that maybe the president's plan during the midterm elections to get people elected that were not blue dog democrats, the more conservative democrats. he wanted them more to the left democrats. maybe that's going to bite him in the butt now because it's the people who are more far to the left who don't want to go to war at all and have been following the lead from behind foreign policy. so now you have people like

grayson and others. then you have more moderates in the senate, like senator joe manchin and another from north dakota, they don't want to do it either. he has a huge problem. >> brian: let's add in chris murphy and tom udall. do you know what they have in common? they're democrats. why aren't people coming out and saying his president is having problems with his own party? why is that so hard for people to understand? the people pushing hardest for it is john mccain and senator lindsey graham. what party are they from? they're republicans! the president jammed health care down everybody's throats. he jammed regulation down everybody's throats and the stimulus and he got blow back in the midterm elections and he could possibly lose the senate. what will be left of his presidency should he lose this vote and bomb anyway? what will be left if he loses both and sits there and says, well, i can't get congressional support, so i won't do anything?

>> dennis kucinich, who i believe is a democrat, is a fox news contributor. we debated the whole syrian issue. >> i'm not for killing anybody. i'm sure not -- >> brian: but you can't cloud syria's background. they were hardly smooth running machine before. >> you're look at the guy who led the effort to try to stop us from going into war in iraq because they didn't make the case. okay? they haven't made the case to the american people. >> brian: that's true. >> this is about america. this is about us first. it's not about all the bad guys around the world. if the congress votes against it and the president goes forward with the war anyway, we're look at a constitutional crisis the likes of which we have not seen in the united states and where a president would act in defiance of the congress as direct representatives of the people. >> steve: a lot of people are wake up this morning saying, that's what dennis kucinich thinks? i feel the same way. there are a lot of republicans who say that it would be a

really dumb idea to go ahead with it. >> brian: do you know why republicans are more upset? the ones normally for this are not convinced the president has the right plan text cute it. >> steve: he's had 50 plans! there is no clear strategy. plus, if they're going to -- if they're just trying to teach him a lesson, okay, we send over 165 tomahawk, what do we do the next day? there is no follow-up? you do a pin prick, it doesn't make sense. things are so dire right now at the white house, joe biden has been called in to the rescue. the white house itself -- >> brian: you could just stop there. >> gretchen: i wasn't quite sure if he was serious or not. i'm waiting to hear what the next line is. >> absolutely. >> steve: joe biden called in a number of democrats into the situation room yesterday, including joe kennedy and al franken, tried to convince them, this is the right thing to do. the white house has also called up at least 125 members of congress, at least 60 u.s.

senators. here is a member of congress, congresswoman eleanor holmes norton. she admitted on the bill press radio show, she's going to vote for this even though she probably doesn't think it's the right thing to do. listen. >> i think it will be because of loyalty of democrats. they just don't want to see him shamed and humiliated on the national scene. >> yeah, right. >> at the moment, that's the only reason i would vote for it if i could vote on it. >> gretchen: i hate to say it, but that's politics and i totally disagree it and i think that's why congress has a dismal approval rating. 10%, 11%, it's for that reason, because people don't feel like they can trust their politicians to act on their behalf. correct? that's proof of it. but it would happen on the other side, too. i hate to say it. >> steve: just remember, brian, you brought up the health care debate where a lot of democrats went along with the president. they weren't sure it would work out and boy, were they right about that. in the implementation and what

happened in the 2010 mid terms? landslide. they had followed the president and he got what he wanted, but a lot of them lost their jobs. what are they going to do this time? right now, i would have to say it looks like it's not going to pass. >> brian: he's going to make a major speech within a couple of days, i think. >> steve: we've heard a loft speeches. >> brian: can the arab league, who was pushing us to do this, can they at least write the checks? can they at least -- >> steve: they've offered. >> brian: can they say, listen, we will pay for you to use your military hardware. if they would do that, that would help the president's case. right now -- >> steve: john kerry made that point. >> gretchen: you got to try and pass it with the american people. one of the things that the president did not do up until this point was just that, trying to tell the american people what his strategy was and why it was so important to do this move. i think many americans are still waiting to hear that. >> steve: plus the world community, united nations should be on board.

part-time work and more than half of these new jobs are in low paid positions. retailing, bartending, hotels, that kind of thing. it's not a positive employment picture we've got now. we've got the numbers that are going to show precisely that in just over an hour's time. >> gretchen: here is what many people believe. i'm wondering if you agree, that we'll only see an increase in this time of part-time employment because many people under obamacare, employers, don't want to face the realities of putting people under health care. >> absolutely right. if you look down the road a ways, you see obamacare coming right at you. if you're an employer, here it comes. you know that if you have a full time worker, you've got to provide health care insurance for that worker. if, however, you have a part-timer, less than 30 hours a week, you don't have to provide health care. that's a big chunk of your cost taken out. so employers are moving rapidly towards employing part-timers,

>> is there some kind of spine removal procedure at the white house over the weekend? i don't understand. how is this courageous? >> well, matt, obviously the president has the authority to act without the cooperation of congress, but the president and the secretary strongly agreed that when the administration and the people's representatives stand together, that that strengthens our case. >> steve: it wasn't courageious. it was cya. >> brian: whoever gave him this advice, i think is in a lot of trouble. >> gretchen: wait a minute. people in congress said -- members of congress said, i hope he comes to us to ask us. you can't have it both ways. >> brian: you can't tell congress, i want to vote for it, and then leave them on vacation to barbecue for two weeks. either there is an urgency, get back here and give me a vote, or i'm going overseas and i'm to golf and go to sweden. but when you come back, when you have time, get around to

debating it. meanwhile, they're packing things into people's garages that we would be targeting. alan grayson, there is no reason to go through any procedure. the whip counts are overwhelmingly against. this is from a libertarian who says if you're a goper, hawk, voting yes on military action, you might as well start cleaning out your office. politico says if the vote was today, the president would lose big. if he loses big, no matter what he does, he loses big. >> gretchen: he does. >> brian: not only in syria, everything else. >> gretchen: yeah. we were saying last week the president is in a pickle. this week he's still in a pickle. no matter what -- if congress votes with him, then maybe not so much. but if congress doesn't, what the president will do, may be the biggest so far in the last five years. >> steve: what if congress says no and he doesn't it anyway? >> brian: that's what i'm saying, who ever gave him this advice has a lot of explaining to do.

>> gretchen: aaron hernandez is expected to appear in court and expected to make a new bail request. the first step in an intense legal battle. wfxt reporter is live for us in massachusetts with much more on this story. good morning. >> good morning to you. the arraignment for aaron hernandez is scheduled for 2:00 o'clock this afternoon. this is kind of an important date. this is really kicking off whole trial process. to run through the time line of what's happened so far, june 17 is when odin lloyd's body was found. june 26, when aaron hernandez was arrested. august 23, he was indicted. hernandez was in court exactly a week ago but for a brief hearing. today he will be back here in this courthouse in fall river for his arraignment. a couple of things that could happen today. first of all, the judge may set a tentative date for the trial. we don't know if that will happen are not. it's not required burks it's a possibility. something else that could happen is that there may be another argument made for bail. it's likely any such request would be denied. the argument being, of course,

that hernandez would have the means to be a flight risk. of course, that's just another possibility for what we might expect this afternoon. the courthouse here, they are expecting a large media presence for this arraignment. because of that, they have some very strict guidelines in place. 24 members of the media will be allowed in the actual courtroom. we'll be given wristbands, nontransferable to other members of the media. there will be an overflow courtroom as well. really a lot of attention expected on this arraignment this afternoon, which is once again scheduled for 2:00 o'clock. of course, there will be updates coming from the courthouse at that time. for now live in fall river, massachusetts, back to you guys. >> gretchen: thanks very much. >> brian: we'll see if all this has been a distraction to the patriots as they play football this weekend. the rest of your headlines. we've seen a lot of stuff on-line. the man driving drunk and killing a 61-year-old veteran. watch. >> my name is matthew portal. on june 22, 2013, i hit and

[ laughter ] >> gretchen: okay. let's do some headlines now because all eyes will now be on former new england patriot aaron hernandez today as he's arraigned on murder and gun charges set for 2:00 p.m. eastern in fall river superior court in massachusetts. hernandez is charged with first-degree murder and firearms charges stemming from the

shooting of odin lloyd. new overnight, a representative for ariel castro's family claiming his body two days after he hung himself with a sheet in his prison cell. he was sentenced last month to life in prison, plus 1,000 years for holding three women captive in his home for a decade. a brooklyn teen has been killed when his remote control helicopter struck him in the head. a witness says 19-year-old roman lost control of the chopper. he was sliced by the blade. friends say he had a lot of experience with the models. he even had a youtube channel dedicated to the flights. the model has blade speeds up to 250 miles per hour. historic night kicks off the nfl season. peyton manning and the denver broncos hosting the baltimore ravens. but the ravens defense forgot to show up. manning somehow -- he did something that hasn't been done since 1969. threw seven touchdown passes, the sixth player to ever do it. they blow out the ravens.

>> brian: i thought he had at least two touchdown catches. he looked awesome. they both look like they're 25 years old. 5' 9, 180 pounds, i think. >> why did the patriots let him go? n they couldn't afford him. there might have been some bad blood with belichick. we'll have to see. thank you for joining us, geraldo. >> steve: sit down. >> gretchen: your car is outside. >> steve: we've got a fox news alert. u.s. orders diplomats to leave lebanon as congress debates syrian military strikes. we also learned this morning that apparently the president of the united states considered 50 revisions since he announced that there could be a limited strike on syria involving b-2s and perhaps b-52s flown from the united states. also there would be tomahawks launched from the warships in the eastern mediterranean. i was listening to geraldo's

radio show yesterday and you said you had a big announcement. i was listening and it sounded like it troubled you, but you do not agree with the president of the united states on action in syria. >> i absolutely do not. i think that this is fraught with peril for the united states. we are picking sides in a civil war where we have no strategic interest in one side or the other prevailing. the rebels are as rife with monsters as the bad guys. they are al-qaeda fighting hezbollah. why are we picking a side? we're going to commit the united states military? and you hear this mission creep, you hear first it was going to be the tomahawk missile, now they're talking b-2s and stealth bombers and b-52s and american g.i.s will be into iing those aircraft. this is committing to us a civil war where we don't want either side to win. >> brian: the other side is very different people. general keane says the rebels

are mostly rebels that we can get behind. you have senator mccain yelling at us on monday and you also have secretary of state kerry saying that we know who they are and they deserve our support. >> you see that video yesterday of the rebels, the so-called rebels lining up the syrian soldiers they had captured. >> brian: shot them in the head. >> torturing them and then executing them on camera, bald face invoking religious justification for that murder, that assassination? those are the good guys? those are the people we are risking our g.i.'s to help? when they take over, do you think that those seven syrian soldiers are where their butchery will end? there will be a blood bath. this is prolonging this conflict. >> steve: also the rebels have admitted on video that they have used chemical weapons in the past. and there are a lot of people, including putin, who worries

that essentially al-qaeda is getting us to take out assad. al-qaeda is framing assad so we'll be their air force. >> we will be, as ted cruz says, we can not. i don't agree with senator ted cruz on many things, most of them, immigration leading the way. but when he says, when he couches it that way, do we really want to be the air force for al-qaeda, it is very difficult to deny the accuracy of that statement. >> brian: you're not an assad fan, right? >> assad is a murdering pig. he's a person who uses poison gas. >> brian: who fueled the war in iraq. >> you see these children dying from poison gas. it gagged me! it makes my skin crawl. >> gretchen: would you have been in favor of any kind of military action if the mission was to get rid of assad, because some people i think are troubled by the fact that it's a political cover situation because obama said the line last year about the crossing the red line?

>> you know, gretch, there was a moment in time, about two weeks ago, when we first saw that video, when we first discovered what he had done to those children, the moment was then. we had sufficient strength in the mediterranean that we could have gotten maybe only one or it destroyers in place in time, or maybe it could have been a b-2 or b-52. it should have been a short, sharp surgical strike showing our displeasure. >> gretchen: why didn't obama do that? because the mission is creeping. >> gretchen: why didn't he do it? he's done the drones in pakistan and afghanistan. >> because he lost his nerve. he became indecisive. the military said to him, we're not ready yet. let us get this asset, this asset. so hot blood cools. now it is in the sober reflection of the next week or the second week. now you talk to your advisors. well, let's see. we could hit bridge number two. no, hit bridge number three. why don't we hit the airfields?

no, the russians will come and bring in their tractors. now i just ask you one thing, picture this, assad gets hit massively by us. shock and awe. remember that? but we're not going to take him out. we've announced that. so the next day they line up, the syrian, government of assad, they line up 1,000 civilian corpses, killed by the united states air strikes. there is a baby and there is a mother and there is a neighbor and there is this person and that person. and how will we feel then? what have we done -- >> brian: here is the thing, here is the problem with your argument. if you don't want us to attack, that's fine. but you're saying it's okay to have attacked two weeks ago. >> in the moment, in the passion of the moment, it was appropriate. you go like this, i go like that back. you cross that line, okay, there. now it's over. >> brian: do you know what senator feinstein said? they have proof they've used gas 12 to 14 times already.

this was just the most massive display and there is a sense that maybe 70% of the rebels are good and the 25% are on the front of the "new york times." >> when you have a situation where you have 25% who are dedicated, who are trained, who are hardened in war in chechnya and libya and in afghanistan and they are the fighters. we have seen article after article, they will displace those who are less ruthless than themselves. they, as they have in the middle east, will displace those less fanatically islamists, less fanatically anti-western. they will displace those who have the -- talking about the sunni shop keepers and the college educated and the so-called secular elite, those people will fall by the wayside as they always do in the face of the aggression of the real radicals. >> gretchen: i believe that this could be the president's most important decision of his entire presidency. you now have congress that may

vote against this. what will the president of the united states do? >> i am praying, gretchen, that he heeds, he has chosen to go to the congress of the united states. he has put the fate of this mission in the hands of the congress of the united states? le he punted. >> for him, characterize it any way -- let's take him for his word. let's give him all benefit of the doubt and say this was a sincere constitutional move to check -- >> brian: even though he says he doesn't have to. >> having once taken that step and ask congress for authorization to be denied authorization and to go ahead anyway, i think is -- i don't want to overstate it and say it's a constitutional crisis. it will definitely be a historic slight to the constitution of the united states to having gone to -- >> gretchen: i don't think -- >> brian: he doesn't have a tomorrow. he's not going to get immigration. he'll alienate everybody because he's got democrats who don't

want any part of this. if not more by republicans. he can't govern if he goes against the rule. >> i urge the president -- i don't want to be naive. i know the united nations is a dysfunctional body. but this crime was committed against humanity. this was a crime against the world. this was a crime against civilization. we have a united nations to protect civilization against savagery. let's go to the united nations. maybe china will veto. maybe russia will. but at least let us make the case, let's do our due diligence before we take a step that there is no such thing as a sure, sharp hit anymore. >> steve: referred to it as a pin prick. that's crazy. why, though, do you think that in this particular case chemical weapons is suddenly a red line, whereas so many people have been killed by so many other

become closer to a trading has become bizarre. the trading boats for bomb has become divisible. the president who can't stomach america as traffic agents sees america as the globe's robo cops. the attack will be even bigger than first planned. today world leaders, not one of them who will join him in his mission, he looks not in the mirror, but points back to congress that only their credibility is on the line. perhaps hoping the world will forget that when he had the chance to act on his claimed constitutional authority to attack and the moral authority to be outraged, he chose indecision rather than leadership. one congressional representative said yesterday that loyal democrats would only vote for military strike on syria to save their standard bearer shame and humiliation on the national stage. all of us want our country to be seen as strong and restoring the

rights of those who can't help themselves. if pushed hard to the wall, and we will, probably swallow rationality and focus on the vile chemical massacre of innocence as reason enough for action. if we do that, then the shame and humiliation of a president and his personal political disaster will be erased for the moment. unfortunately, every border in the middle east is a red line ready to burst. our red line resolve is not to sacrifice israel for arab support. now the president has called out conduct for which he threatened a response. the truth is that some americans quietly pray that he will choose to offer up his own shame and humiliation in place of america's. in the end americans will stand for america, whatever decision is made. the errors of iraq prove that. but we can only hope that a president who knows americans will sacrifice their lives to

180,000 were expected. >> brian: nicole petallides is downtown. >> steve: she's going to have an update on what this all means in a couple of minutes. hang on to this. one other note regarding it. it says while they did add 169,000 jobs in august, much fewer in july than previously thought. slow down in hiring could complicate the fed's decision later this month on whether to slow its $85 billion a month bond purchases. there is the headline right there, unemployment right now, 7.3%. >> gretchen: russian president putin speaks to reporters at the g-20 summit, denying syria used chemical weapons and says no action should be taken. wendell goler is live in russia with the very latest. good morning. good afternoon, wendell. >> good afternoon, gretchen. the leaders really here are divided over the president's effort to punish syria's government for allegedly using

chemical weapons with some saying only the u.n. security council can do that and the russians insisting that syrian rebels are behind the attack. syrian civil war isn't even officially on the agenda here. but president obama has been working the leaders one on one and the side lines of the summit and the talks of the civil war pushed last night's dinner late into the night. so far none of the leaders volunteered support for the president's plan to punish syria, though he says the japanese prime minister supports it. mr. obama is meeting shortly with french president. there is a photo op afterwards that. will give him a chance to vocally support the president's plan. it's said he told president obama, a political solution is the only right way out. russian president putin scheduled to hold a news conference within the next few minutes. he says there is no doubt there was a chemical weapons attack, but he blames syrian rebels and he has sent the u.n. a 100-page

stock exchange for more on the fox business alert we told you about. to be specific, steve did. the new monthly unemployment rate for august is 7.3%. you don't believe me, do you? ask nicole petallides. she know what is it means for americans and she knows that number is correct or not, right, nicole? >> right. i'm going to go ahead and say ding, ding, ding, you totally got it right. we know you only tell the truth pertaining to the numbers. we've been seeing the jobless numbers, or in this case, jobs added. fewer than expected. ultimately the jobs picture has been not a great one. it's been improving over the years, but the truth is, you are seeing people hired back at jobs that are at a lower wage and in many case, part-time jobs because companies are deliberate and not hiring full time workers because of the administration's health care program. that's the truth. >> steve: one of the troubling details, when you get past the

numbers, 7.3, people will see that and go, it's a really good thing. also it says the participation rate, the proportion of people who are working is now at the lowest rate it has been in 35 years. some of those are baby boomers retiring. but others simply have given up. >> steve, you're so right. that labor force participation rate is at 63.2%. 35 year mark. it basically says people are dropping out of the work force totally and that's why we see that unemployment rate drop down to 7.3%. it doesn't mean that people are cheering and got so many great jobs. on the contrary. you had stuart varney, he told you. we're 2 million short number of jobs of where we were prior to the recession in the bush era years and people are getting lower paying jobs. >> brian: if you missed stuart varney's appearance, we have a home copy. we'll mail a dvd to your house. fantasy football, big night if you had peyton manning. the broncos win and gets revenge

blog. >> gretchen: so you wrote about the fact that he got an unsportsman like penalty late in the fourth quarter. you felt he was taunting the rice players. you say it's broader and the real message you're trying to convey is it puts new a difficult position because your son is look up to him and it's hard for you to express to your child this type of behavior. >> right. and we teach our children to look for great role models in the world and when i have a son who is a die hard a & m fan and loves johnny manziel, it does put me in an awkward position when i have to explain things and he has questions about behavior or things he has seen or heard about in social media. >> gretchen: i'm sure every parent has been in that situation. i know i have with tough questions. but there are many famous people and sports people who become famous who say, beth, i don't want kids to look up to me as a role model. i'm simply a ball player. don't look to me to be perfect.

and how would you respond to that? >> you know, my response to that is when you choose to go into those areas, you are in a spotlight and you may not want to be a role model, but by being in the spotlight, people look up to you and people watch you. just across the board, if you are in a spotlight, whether it's in front of a nation or in front of just one or two people, that you are being watched and little eyes watch and it makes an impact on the people who look up to you and kind of think, i'd love to be johnny manziel at texas a & m one day or whoever the person is. >> gretchen: i get it. i know you never thought your blog would catch on as much fire as it did as well. >> no. >> gretchen: beth, have a great weekend and we look forward to hearing more from your blog. thanks so much. >> thank you very much. >> gretchen: more "fox & friends" three minutes away cui.
