patriotism and the moral clarity of the u.s. cause. rest in peace. >> that's it for this week's show. thanks to my panel and all of you watching. i'm paul gigot. hope to see you all here next week. defense secretary hagel will recall most civilian employees who were furloughed bringing them back to work. this, as the senate is still in session. the house just wrapping up for the day. as the government shutdown stretching into its fifth day. hello, everyone. welcome to a brand-new hour. good to see you. >> now, another deadline fast approaching over our nation's debt ceiling. there are growing fears that the two budget battles could combine into one sort of jurassic sized standoff. >> absolutely. and as they said, the countdown continues. what we're going to do now is
11:31 am
bring in molly for a report. first, i think we have a sound bite. >> we'll continue to be here this weekend. we'll continue to wait for any indication from the majority leader in the senate or the white house that they're willing to sit down and talk with us so we can relieve the pain on the american people and end the shutdown. >> so now what the republican house are telling -- because they're the ones that set the agenda, but they're telling all these federal workers what we're going to do for you now, even though we don't like federal workers and we haven't given you a raise in three years, what we're going to do now is give you a paid vacation. and that's what it is. these people who want to go to work can't go to work. >> molly live on capitol hill now with more. >> the house this morning came in for a rare saturday session and passed a bill that will
11:32 am
guarantee pay, back pay, for furloughed federal workers, whenever this government shutdown ends. it has been expected that the democratically controlled senate would follow suit, perhaps even later today. but you just heard senate majority leader harry reid. he sort of left some wiggle room there. we're waiting to see. the white house has indicated the president would sign it if it made it to his desk. the legislation passed the house this morning unanimously. when do you see that in washington, d.c.? 407-0. senate democrats opposed to deal with anything to do with the government shutdown piece by piece. republicans say if they're willing to vote to pay federal worker, they should be open to passing various house bills that would reopen, for example, the veterans administration, the national institutes of health, national parks and others. >> ask majority leader reid why is he not bringing up any of these bills. because i think there is a
11:33 am
majority of senators who support these bills to ease the pain on the american people while we continue to wait for the president to join us in these discussions to work out our differences. >> who normally happens when the two people disagree on a policy is a negotiation. each side gives up a little. you end up with a bipartisan compromise. the problem right now the senate democrats are refusing to negotiate. >> house democrats who supported this legislation today say back pay for federal workers is different. it's unique. it's separate. because it treats the federal workforce as a whole. >> this bill, mr. speaker, doesn't say let's just pay the federal employees at fema. it doesn't just say let's pay the federal employees at the national parks. it doesn't say, let's just pay the federal employees at the piecemeal cherry picking
11:34 am
agencies our colleagues have brought to the fore. it says, let's hold all federal employees whole. and let's open the entire federal government and do it now. >> president obama maintained he will not negotiate. in his internet address, here's what the president said his message is to republicans. >> i made clear to them this week. there's only one way out of this reckless and damaging shutdown. pass a government that funds our government with no partisan strings attached. >> the president is in town this weekend. he canceled a trip to asia because of the shutdown. but no negotiations have been set for this weekend which republicans call a missed opportunity. >> thank you so much for that live report. not everybody is toeing the lane on the government shutdown. wisconsin governor scott walker now refusing to follow an order from the national park service to close down several state parks that receive federal funding. the republican governor is
11:35 am
ordering wisconsin parks to remain open because most of their funding comes from the state and not the federal government. the republican governor says both parties in washington are to blame for the shutdown. so much talk about the shutdown now. but so little to show for it. house republicans proposing a stop-gap measure to keep some parts of the u.s. government open. but senate democrats say any such deal would be doa, dead on taking considerable heat for the shutdown. a poll finds more voters have negative views of democrats and republicans and the tea party movement than positive. the disapproval rating for republicans, well, the largest by 24 opponents. director of outreach for freedom works. richard goodstein is a democratic political consultant, former adviser to hillary clinton's presidential campaign.
11:36 am
nice to have you both here. richard, let me start with you. because richard, you know, the president has embraced this rather novel tactic. i refuse to talk. >> right. >> is that a risky strategy? because it could reinforce a damaging impression that, you know, this is a president who is devoid of leadership skills. rolling up his sleeves and working with other people. and the longer this goes on, richard, the more indelible that impression may become. >> well, that's an interesting theory. it's confounded by the polls and some other factors. for example, the poll you just cited shows the public does not think the president is misbehaving in quite the same way. we also know that by 3 to 1 when asked a question, do you think it's worth defunding obama care and therefore getting the government to shut down, by 3 to 1, people say no, we do not want that as the price to pay. let me just twist that, imagine
11:37 am
nancy pelosi was the speaker and the republicans controlled the white house and the senate and she said, i want to have a con fir confiscation of all handguns. would they only confiscate a quarter of an all handguns? of course not, they would never in a million years have that debate. -- embedded in the constitution, has been for 100 years. obama care is brand-new, just started october 1st. so i want to be fair and balanced here. tough question to you. because the say criticism is being leveled at speaker boehner. he has lost control of the house. ted cruz, renegade conservatives. and a strong speaker, a skilled speaker, who had the confidence of his party, would not. and, you know, they say he just doesn't have the skills to end this thing. is that fair criticism? >> here's what i think.
11:38 am
i think the republicans really need to hold the line across the board. because what we're witnessing is this harmful shutdown that is harming families, harming hard-working americans. obama's ratings have dropped 41%. he's the leader. he's the president. this is all happening under his watch. you have harry reid who won't even bring a vote to the continuing resolution spending bill. and also all the other bills that have come up from the house. so clearly it's the democrat's fault that is holding up our country from moving forward and this is all under obama's watch. he can do something about it. >> i'm glad you brought up the polling data because i want to throw one up on the screen here and ask you about it. because it's true, republicans normally get the blame for all these shutdowns. look at this, this fox news poll, when asked who's most responsible for the shutdown, look at that, boehner and obama are statistically even in the
11:39 am
blame game. 25, 24. within the margin of error. so what about that? >> here's what i would say to that. imagine we're back in 2010 and you asked a tea party candidate for the house. what would you think about going to washington and paying 800,000 federal workers not to work? they say that's exactly what we're running to avoid. and yet either single one of them -- >> no, those are nonessential employees, why the heck do we even employ nonessential employees? >> voted today to pay for those people not to work. that's a debate you need to have with them. my point is if there's any question about who's winning or losing, that vote proves it. we've gone from defunding obama care to delay, to delay it a little bit, to now the whole debate is -- it's all about fund things which the ryan budget would grossly slash.
11:40 am
>> let me get my question in. when you add in ted cruz and harry reid, republicans do get most of the blame for the shutdown by a large margin. look at this other poll. president obama's job approval has ticked up five points. his disapproval has ticked down five points. that's a ten-point swing in president obama's favor. so amid all of this, advantage obama, isn't it? >> americans are tired of big government. very influent to rein in what has gone wild. the vindictiveness of president obama shutting down the world war ii memorial site. are you kidding me? our veterans who have come there from volunteer efforts to view the memorial, individuals should be paying respect to these
11:41 am
people on a daily basis. but that's not what we're witnessing from president obama. he wants to inflict more harm and make it a visual effect because his facts and figures are failing the country. his policies are failing. >> we love to take the pulse of the american public which is why we do the polling data. love to show them to you. look at the next one. a substantial majority of americans, a huge majority want it delayed. this poll right here, maybe it worried the president or it should. as well as democrats. look at that, richard. 52% say the old system is better for their family. whereas 36% embrace this sort of new obama care system. i mean, that's not a good start, richard? >> well, you know, that's co confounded by another poll, which when you ask people how they feel about obama care and the affordable care act. they don't like obama care. the affordable care act, they
11:42 am
like. they actually like not having to worry about pre-existing conditions -- >> it has that lovely word in it, affordable. >> i would argue it's because -- >> -- health care act, according to many -- >> well, the painful health care act -- >> we've seen them say the cost curb is bending. people can sort of say the opposite. >> -- projected to go up over the course of ten years. >> the cost may bend in new york and california where artificially the rates were already high. richard, the other 48 states are getting hammered, especially young people. >> and these exchanges aren't even working. the exchanges weren't ready. they took them down. >> the polls have been consistent from day one on the affordable care act, obama care. call it what you will. when asked if they like it or not, people say they don't. a good unk charchunk of the peo they don't like it because it's not liberal enough. if you combine the people who are quite comfortable with the affordable care act, that
11:43 am
actually way trumps the number of people who aren't happy with it. i think it's like anything else. and the final question -- >> not even in effect yet and it's already wreaking havoc on our economy. employees are losing hours. those rates are going up. obama promised they would not. really, he lied to us, the whole thing. >> got to go, thanks so much. funnel clouds in the nation's heartland. tropical storm karen taking aim at the gulf coast. the latest on our wild weather that's coming up next. and a glimmer of hope for the jobs market that may put more americans back to work. hi, i'm terry and i have diabetic nerve pain. i worked a patrol unit for 17 years in the city of baltimore. when i first started experiencing the pain, it's, it's hard to describe because you have a numbness... but yet you have the pain like thousands of needles sticking in your foot.

11:54 am
and for your family, but it promotes money flow throughout the overall economy, right? >> yes, the reason the jobs number matters is we need money flowing into the economy to pay for the obligations the government has and the commitments that they have. so when you start really thinking about this, we have a number numbness. we have so many reports out there and let's make it real simple. in order to get enough money into the che -- economy through tax revenue we need 300,000 net new jobs a month for about 12 months in a row to get us healthy. we are averaging about 160,000. so a lot of those unfortunately are part-time jobs as well. >> when you talk about new jobs, you stress net new jobs. of course you have to factor in the jobs gained as well as the jobs lost, correct? >> exactly, right. without question. we are so confused and there are so many reports out and surveys, but if everyone remembers you need 300,000 net
11:55 am
new jobs. forget the unemployment rate. that's not a meaningful statistic. the numerator and the denominator changes every month. you can't compare one month to the other. whenwhen we get to 300,000 net new jobs a month there will be a smile on my face. everybody wants to smile because everybody wants to have more people back to work. but you also say though that some of the businesses are over burdened with regulations and taxes. what do you mean? give us a few specifics. >> what i mean is one of the reasons we are not getting the net new jobs is we have a different environment in the business world. we need some regulation, but some say we are over regulated. we have you a lot of -- we have a lot of taxes and it is tough to get anything done. including obamacare. people don't want to hire more than 50 employees if they don't have to and small businesses are the spring board for the economy . and because of that a lot of small businesses aren't going to hire more and more full

12:03 pm
a brief minute of bipartisan ship in the house. it will help alleviate some of the pain of the shutdown as they have been trying to do with bills to reopen various agencies such as the national institute of health and the national parks and fema while continuing to negotiate on more contentious spending issues like obamacare. all of those bills are expected to die in the senate and president obama has maintained that the government needs to be reopened altogether, not bit by bit. the president canceled his trip to asia this weekend, but he says he is not going to negotiate while the government is shutdown. republicans say is the wrong approach. >> the president canceled his trip to asia. that's a unique opportunity. if he is here this weekend, we are here this weekend. this can all end. all the president has to do is sit down. >> the democrats have calculated that by prolonging the shutdown and maximizing the pain they can bully republicans into doing whatever president obama and the majority leader reid want
12:04 pm
them to do. it is a very cynical game. but democrats have decided to play it. >> the white house has indicated that the president would veto any of the house bills that might make it to his desk although the senate -- it will probably die in the senate. he will veto them except for this piece of legislation on back pay for furloughed federal workers. the white house has indicated that the president will be on board with that if it makes it to his desk. arthel? >> and the government shutdown could soon stand in front of the american dream for tens of thousands of people. home buyers will be unable to get approval for their mortgages. we are talking about banks and other lenders who rely on the irs and the social security administration to confirm the barrower's income and identity. but with paperwork stalling and both agency's lenders will be less likely to make loans if at all all.

12:06 pm
>> no, this is an old-fashioned staring contest. the republicans have to get something out of this because they i think half planned and half blundered into this. they need to get something, maybe a delay in obamacare and maybe into the exemption the congress has from parts of obamacare. if they just send over a clean one, all of this will have been for nothing. >> if they just send over a clean one, why not a clean cr? what's up with that? >> again because that would mean -- this is like the shirts and the skins in a football game. that would mean the democrats would have won and the republicans would have lost. >> isn't it ridiculous? this is pathetic. >> this is what happens when you have a polarized country. we used to have the government shutdowns frequently. it has been 17 years since we have had one. we have forgotten, but the country gets over them. the difference between this shutdown and the previous shutdowns, the previous ones ended in a compromise. one side gave up one thing and the other side gave up the

there will be a conflict. i understand conflict. the problem here is apparently because of manhood and people don't want to feel as if they are having to be embarrassed. they are making this last longer than it should. there should be a reasonable compromise. both sides are basically saying my manhood is at stake and i am not backing down. >> i am going to say something that has nothing to do with hillary. women rule. >> behind the scenes or one way or another. >> we appreciate your time. >> i am a household full of women and i am with you. women rule. >> that's right. >> they certainly rule me. early autumn and storms across the united states turning deadly. a powerful storm in nebraska is causing snow-slicked roads out there and killing three people while thunderstorms and tornadoes rolled across the great plains causing millions of dollars in damage while injuring several people.

what we expect is for well qualified republicans that happen to be hispanic to stand up and to say we want to be a part of this party. >> by being part of the party it may help reverse the republicans standing over here. the republicans have got less than 30%. there are 15 congressional seats that the republicans have. the district are 30% latino and change has to come. that is true for the rest of the south of the country. i spoke to texas governor rick perry and asked what he thought about the strategy of latinos trying to oust members of the republican party to achieve that. take a listen. >> california republican party needs to take a look at the -- at their policies, at the words they use. i would suggest that matters.
12:18 pm
the issue of we are going to take over and kick people out based on their race is i think a bad concept. >> well is it a bad concept? we'll see.oing after so far the municipal seats and winning those big, it thinks that will transfer to congressional and state seats here in california. we will see if they manage to do it. >> in anaheim, california, thanks. another gruesome scene in the nation's capitol when a man sets himself on fire on the national mall. we have new information. >> plus, the government shutdown now affecting an iconic symbol of freedom. lady liberty. off limits today.

of people who are still displaced nearly a year after superstorm sandy. the red cross is stepping in with up to $1 million to extend their hotel stays. new york city stopped paying for the victims' rooms on thursday night. >> one of america's national treasures and symbols of freedom is closed for business. visitors who hope to see lady liberty are turned away because of the government shutdown. the ripple effect is felt throughout the big apple. >> on a typical saturday this time of year about 13,000 visitors would be here lined up getting ready to board a cruise to visit the statue of liberty. five days into the government shutdown that number is closer to 3,000. those people are just disappointed tourists who found out when they got here the statue was closed. the statue was closed. it is having an affect on businesses that depend on

tourists. statue cruises takes people to liberty island for $17 a person. they can have a chance to take in the view from inside the crown. since the shutdown revenue is down 70% and management is on the brink of laying off 100 of their 180 workers. it is a lose-lose for everyone. >> they are disappointed and they will come back next year and they will take the harbor tour. people are willing to accept it and this may be the only time they are in new york. that is another outrage. >> tourists can see the statue on the hour-long cruise around new york. over 50 million people visit new york city every year and the statue of liberty remains one of the world's most popular landmarks. lady liberty shuts down for eight months after hurricane sandy and reopened july 4th. unlike mother nature it could have been avoided and it has made for a greater sense of disappointment especially for first time visitors.
12:25 pm
>> you couldn't go to the statue of liberty? >> we could, but we cooperate get off the -- we could, but we couldn't get off the boat jie. we are trying to make this educational trip and we got the boat tour instead. >> it is a similar scene seen all over the country. over 400 national parks and monuments have been closed due to the shutdown and that means businesses without tourists and federal workers without work and vai locationers left -- vacationers left without work. >> in the meantime, outrage from the on going government shutdown , well it is really boiling over these days in dc. a look at the impact it is having on key attractions in our nation's capitol and veterans who are not taking it lying down. >> plus more charges could be coming soon in the brutal biker attack in new york city. more motorcyclists now stepping up to face the music. our legal panel weighs in.

new developments in a brutal confrontation between a group of bikers and a family in an suv. there you can see it, two bikers who turned themselves in to new york city police. including the man you can see here bashing the suv's window. the nypd also releasing these photos today of another motorcyclist wanted for questioning. meanwhile, attorneys are all lining up as they do to represent all parties involved including the biker who was paralyzed when the fearful suv driver ran him over. let's bring in our legal panel. fox news legal analyst and defense attorney richard st. paul. it strikes me that the driver of the suv did what any father with a little 2-year-old daughter in the backseat and a wife in the passenger seat would do is try to get away. imminent fear of serious
12:33 pm
bodily injury is self-defense. was he justified? >> undoubtedly. that's the issue. anyone in those circumstances are going to flee. there is nothing else they could have done. if he does get sued and undoubtedly he will and there are plenty of lawyers that will sue him. it was reasonable. it couldn't have been negligent. what more could i have done? frankly his fear of getting hurt came to fruition. once he hit traffic he was dragged out of the car. >> and had the pulp beat out of him. >> his fears were justified. >> here is an editorial in the post about the guy who was run over as the driver tried to flee. maybe he was trying to help the situation, but getting hurt the way he did, is the risk you take when you make yourself part of a mob that pulls over a driver and slashes his tires and smashes his mirror and oh yes one other thing, mieses was riding
12:34 pm
illegally because he had no license. did he put himself in this situation? >> yes. when are you on a highway and stoping traffic and you are putting -- you are acting in concert with other bikers to essentially get the driver out and put in harm's way. what happened prior to the video being turned on? my understanding the driver of the suv hit one of the motorcyclists and didn't stop and they had to stop him in order for him to take accountability. that does not excuse what happened later on, but certainly we need to know what happened when the video was not turned on. >> we have all been on the highway and all of a sudden 200 bikers come roaring by. they are intimidating and it is frightening and especially with kids in the car. here is the deal. thousands of these guys conspired to take over the west side highway. aren't they all involved in a conspiracy that ended in a
12:35 pm
heinous criminal act? >> it would be great -- there is a very wide net to gather those individuals. i think the law will be clear. who in the immediate circumstances are responsible for this? they knew this. law enforcement knew this is taking place. where were they? where was the police presence? where are they to try to stop it? and knowing that -- you know this too, greg, once the law enforcement knows of a situation, doesn't provide that type of pro section you are talking about a lawsuit against the city. >> did the nypd drop the ball? she is right. they knew in advance. it happened before and they knew it was going to happen this particular day at this particular time that these thousands of bikers were going to try to take over an american highway which is illegal. it is criminal conduct. and the nypd didn't stop it. >> i absolutely think you are going to see a liability against the city of new york on behalf of of them.
12:36 pm
there was a slew of charges and the d.a. has been slow unfortunately in charging these bikers. >> he got his job from his dad. >> and unfortunately with high-profile cases he botches them up a lot. he has menacing child welfare. and reckless endangerment. and we are not sure why we are seeing it. >> they did nothing about it. what about that? >> even worse. they are off duty, but if there is a commission of a crime, exactly they are still come -- compelled. they should try to intervene. that's what they try to do. >> the cops should be fired. >> they could be disciplined and fired. by not doing anything, you may worsen the situation and they aided and abetted. that videotape is so incriminating. it is unbelievably
12:37 pm
incriminating. they may have sealed their own fate. >> what about suing these biker organizations? one of the new biker clubs in west chester county i think it is. the front line biker club, i actually ride motorcycles myself and i can tell you if people have respect motorcycles and vehicles and respect for the road this type of situation would never happen. i certainly think there would be liability against the biker club especially if they had intended to put themselves in harm's way. i think it would be difficult to get the organization involved. they don't have any control of these individuals especially with the commission of a crime. the courts will say they had nothing to do with it. >> they have no money. >> that's what they will do. >> exactly. if they encouraged it and if they provided the means and if they paid for the gas, who knows? these guys have not a penny in their pocket. >> the whole thing is tragic. but police need to put a stop to these biker gangs that take over highways to create stunts
12:38 pm
for their own enjoyment. they terrorize people. >> put police presence, it should be stopped. >> people on the road should call in and report this. >> all right. richard st. paul, mercedes, good to see you both. >> great to see you. >> art? >> much of the confrontation was caught on video, but it doesn't tell the whole story. what really happened out on the road that day? we will walk through it all on "justice with judge janeen" and here is a preview for you. >> so it is in this situation that mieses was run over by the range revolver. we will not get on our bikes with the former nypd detective. we hillary trace the steps from 116th street to 178th which which was the chase that ensued when he tried to take off with his wife and 2-year-old in the
12:39 pm
range revolver. >> by the way, don't miss judge janeen. that's right here on the fox newschannel. and coming up, an economic time bomb is ticking right now. new warnings on the impact of the u.s. defaulting on its debt which some say could make the cost of the government shutdown look like small change. that story is next. >> the president canceled his trip to asia. that's a unique opportunity. if he is here this weekend, we are here this weekend. th can all end. all the president has to do is sit down with the senate democrats and we can move forward.

the treasury department is issuing a dire warning about a potential default causing the consequences for our economy, quote, catastrophic. this is stemming from the on going gridlock in washington along the doomsday scenarios of recession and could rival or be even worse than the recession of 2008 and maybe the great depression. el -- elle capital is the ceo
12:44 pm
of lexion capital. we are several days into the shutdown. and then of course october 17th. let's tackle the government shutdown first. what impact is there on the economy? >> sure of the two the government shutdown which had a massive impact is relatively small compared to what could be down the pipeline. it is affecting us by an estimated $300 million a day and 800,000 government employees, have of which work in the department of defense are now without pay. >> they will get back pay now by virtue of a recent bill passed by congress. the one that is dire though is the october 17th debt ceiling deadline in which the government would no longer be authorized to print money or make payments. could the u.s. actually default on its debt? if so, what impact would that be? >> we can hope that this
12:45 pm
remains within just speculation and that our leaders in washington actually lead. the effect as we can speculate would be absolutely catastrophic. we are the largest and most powerful global economy. so for us to default on our debts would have a massive global impact. interest rates would spike. the dollar would plummet. private lending would freeze and stock markets around the globe would really suffer. >> a banking analyst who is well known, default would wipe out bank equity and lending to the private sector would stop. existing loans would be rolled over and would not roll over and immediate payment would be demanding. it would take decades to recover from the depression caused by the default, decades. >> we can only hope this remains speculative. it has never happened. again hopefully it won't.
12:46 pm
and to put a more personal spin on the shutdown, i had the honor of speaking at the pentagon before members of the department of defense and a number of them e-mailed me this week and said they are having meeting their goals not because of their own financial responsibility, but because of the government. >> the economy is fragile. the gdp is dismal and unemployment and awful. they say the president's policies haven't helped over the last five years. could this send the united states over the financial prcipous of another great depression? >> all of this is fragile and none of this is helping news that all-americans want. we want companies to expand. we want unemployment to get better. we want jobs to be created and people to be hired and for every american to have confidence to go out and spend
12:47 pm
and look toward a bright financial future. >> is it destructive for the president to haul off as he did this week in an interview and say wall street should be panicky about the debt ceiling? that really doesn't help stabilize markets, does it? when the president says something like that that is arguably reckless? >> none of this news has done anything to give people confidence. it is really both sides of the aisle. we need our leaders in washington to lead. it is not coming out of anything to bolster our frag jibing economic recovery. >> thanks for being with us. >> thank you. >> all righty. well, a new reaction to the historic phone call between president obama and iranian president rouhani and israel telling the u.s. not to trust iran.

welcome back. new fallout from the his historic call between president obama and the president of iran. the supreme leader of iran who calls all of the shots in that
12:52 pm
country now hinting that he disapproves of the diplomatic out reach. meanwhile israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu warns that iran's missiles could eventually reach the u.s. the former cia senior analyst and the chief analyst with lignet.com joins us now. hi, fred. >> good to be here. >> go ahead if you would react to the supreme leader's disapproval of the phone call, but supporting rouhani's out reach. >> as you said, he calls the shots in iran. everyone is calling rouhani a moderate. but he is only president because he was allowed to be on a small slate of candidates approved last june. he is among the people that rouhani is counting on to maintain the regime and the way the you ray jet stream has -- the regime is going. i think he went to far and i
12:53 pm
think the comments suggest that there is still incredible hostility in the united states by the regime. this will be difficult to overcome in any agreement. >> following the threat what was the point of the rouhani charm campaign during his visit to new york. the presentation had to be pre approved by the leader. so what do we make of this? are we back to square one where this is all a charade on the part of iran. >> i think it was approved by rouhani, but i think the new president may have gone too far. the two men come from different worlds. rouhani is western niecessed. western niecessed. he has chosen a foreign minister affluent in english and did ties study in the united states. i think they will find a way to find negotiations that will end the sanctions against iran and at the same time they have shown no interest in their nuclear program. >> here comes netanyahu saying, listen, do not trust
12:54 pm
those guys as far as you can throw them. don't forget that they will eventually and perhaps sooner than later have missiles that could reach the u.s. so what is netanyahu do next and what does president obama do or say next? how does this all affect those upcoming negotiations in geneva come october 15th? >> you had to love netanyahu's comment. distrust, disarm and verify. he was taking after ronald regan who said trust, but verify with the russians. netanyahu went over his record of supporting terrorism and the state sponsor of terror. they suppressed their people. they cheated on nuclear talks. ne this will be swept under the rug in a nuclear agreement. he supports talks and he thinks talks should be the means to an end. we shouldn't try to get talks talks and then not have any idea where he will go from there. >> if he says means to an end and netanyahu says we have to do something and do something fast and perhaps more than a slap on the wrist, but if you
12:55 pm
are in the middle of the new found possibility of negotiations and you have got this upcoming -- like i said the talks coming in geneva you have to wait a little bit to let this possible diplomatic out reach playout a little bit, right? >> i think that's right. it will take time to get past the opening rounds where each side will have a pretty tough position, but i think netanyahu wants to strengthen the spine to the united states and the british and the french and the germans in these talks. we have to have a tough deal on the uranium enrichment. we have to disarm and dismantle the equipment to put back the nuclear weapons. >> i asked you to read between the lines up front and now i ask you to read more tea leaves here. how is iran's allies and those who hate america analyzing this? what message are they getting from raw h rouhani. >> i am concerned how russia and syria read what happened
12:56 pm
at the united nations lately. the iranians gave -- rouhani gave a speech that was masterful. president obama's speech did not mention freedom he did mention the fact that iran is a state sponsor of terror. it worries me as an exceptional nation that we are telling rogue states that we will look the other way when they engage in this behavior. that worry meze a lot. >> i have to leave it there. thank you for your time this afternoon. >> and that is going to do it for us. >> we are keeping an eye on what is happening on capitol hill as they continue to stand off over the budget. a healthy you with carol alt is coming up next.an >> stick around.
