fh phailin. the kaj damage is probably done in this region. they had what they think was a storm surge of up to 20 feet. incredible flooding. will be a big deal. then we'll still see the potential for hurricane force winds force winds. a lot of people didn't have the warning that we typically do in the u.s. thoughts and prayers to the folks in india. taking a look at our current temperatures across u.s. cool across the northern plains. in the 30s there for rapid city. 41 in minneapolis. the cooler air and relatively warmer air in the south. 71 in dallas, 66 in memphis. across texas they are going to see some much needed rain over the next couple of days. flood watches and warnings posted around the houston area up towards dallas. it is much needed rain because they have been in an extreme to exceptional drought.

weapons into the game, the question becomes, who can? i can tell you who it is. the active shooter, the person there that wants to be the terrorist. we have to rely on these off duty officers as well as firefighte firefighters, ems folks to be there when we need them. >> let me try to take the other side here because i go to the eagles games in south philly. people drink and i guess we're going to blame it on the alcohol here. i mean, the nfl says we have enough police officers and security people, we've got you covered. you don't need people, off duty cops carrying guns. >> right. i know that's what they say, but that's not true. there's clearly not enough, mike. even at the philadelphia games, as you know firsthand, there's hundreds of thousands of feel and there's police officers scattered about the stadium. there's clearly not enough. officers are trained, guys, to be on duty 24/7 no matter where they are, at a walmart or a venue like a football stadium.

they join us now. thank you for joining us. >> good morning. >> brian, i'm going to start with you. you're in a small plane. piloting this. leaving from california to go visit your other daughter, tabitha, in idaho stationed in the air force, and what happens? >> well, we had hit a pretty bad band of weather and wasn't what we had anticipated. we knew there was weather in the area. we had to keep press being forward. the weather enclosed all the way around us. at one point after the last ridge line we had flown over before the crash the air flow had gotten ripped right out from underneath the wings. it basically created a stall. so the engine was running fine, all of that sort of stuff was perfectly fine, but just the weather itself ripped the air flow out from under the wing and created the stall. and we just basically put the

nose of the plane down into the canyon to get the air flow back. at the last minute it came back. i was able to lift the nose of the plane up to a pretty steep angle. we ripped two of the wing tips off the trees and hit belly first into the next mountain side. >> the story goes deeper and deeper. 15 hours stranded there. you're wearing summer type clothing. heather, for a woman in particular, 15 hours, what's going through your mind and how did you survive for those 15 hours? >> for the most part i just -- i was trying to keep myself warm. i had little capris on and a thin camisol and a thin little zip up hoodie. it was trying to keep myself warm and awake. with my mom and my dad both having head injuries, it was very important for us to do a roll call about every five to ten minutes to make sure that we were all still awake.

one, that we hadn't gone to sleep and for the fact of to not be able to wake back up from the unconsciousness and from the hypothermia being so cold as it was. >> just can't imagine. brian, there was a miraculous phone call that ultimately saved you. talk about that. >> yeah, that was the start of it. that's the thing about the book, at the time that was really all we knew about was the miraculous cell phone call. we were in the middle of the mountains in the middle of nowhere and even if you drive in that area on the freeway, you're not likely to get a cell phone signal. in this case we certainly did. the phone rang and a lot of people, why didn't you use the phones in the first place. our phones went flying. about midnight several hours after the crash the phone woke us or not woke us up but really startled us. there it went. everything started from there. >> brian and heather, we have to leave it there. i'm going to encourage everybody

that. required income verification for obama care subsidies. any parts of this collins plan, we're still hearing word that they might have some bipartisan support. what are you hearing about at least a few of those plans? >> well, no, i don't think it's all been thrown out. i'll tell you the part that i think may be the biggest sticking point and may be the toughest to resolve is the government -- the republican plan, the so-called collins plan would extend government funding till the end of march. you say that's good because the president wanted some certainty. the problem is it extends it at the sequester automatic spending levels all the way till march and the democrats don't like that. they want to get out from under that. what's interesting is when it was obama care, which was the law of the land, the white house has said we can't mess with laws in the middle of these negotiations. when it comes to the sequester, which is also the law of the land, well, then the democrats are perfectly happy to mess with

that. >> chris, could the deal maker possibly be representative paul ryan? could he be coming to the rescue? >> i don't think so. i think this really is focused in the senate. interestingly enough, two people who haven't gotten along recently, great negotiators, that's the senate majority leader, harry reid, the senate minority leader, mitch mcconnell. that's one of the things i know paul ryan and a lot of republicans in the house are upset at, the senate will make a deal with the more moderate republican faction there. with a day or two left before we hit default will try to jam republicans in the house to accept it. that's not a sure thing. that's the real problem here. you have the danger that the president and the senate, they all agree on something on wednesday or a day before the default hand it to the house and the house says no. >> yeah. didn't senator joe manchin work with senator collins on the plan from yesterday? >> absolutely. absolutely. we're going to be talking at the

we have lots of talk but still no deal ending the government shutdown. who's winning the message wars as lawmakers try to find a compromise. let's ask pollster frank luntz joining us this week. nice to see you this morning. >> nice to see you. >> we've been hearing media reports. it seems like the blame falls on republicans. is that the case? what do you make of it? >> we've looked at all the polling. we've done some ourselves. yes, that is correct, by about a ten-point gap the democrats hold the advantage. one of the reasons is messaging. language that has not connected as well as the democrats. i've brought two clips with me. let's start with the armed services committee chairman buck mckeon. obama needs to talk, negotiate and have talks with republicans. let's take a look.

of trusted s.e.c. and hacking expert david kennedy. david, nice to see you this morning. >> great. thanks for having me. i appreciate it. >> as people are signing up for these exchanges, what sorts of things could a hacker come in .swipe from sthem, pirnl information and such? >> it's everything from your entire medical history, everyone from where you're a kid and where you're at now, as well as your social security number, your home address, birthdays, potentially financial information for payments. basically, everything that you had probably consider, you know, as sensitive as a u.s. citizen is going to be stored within the database and stored within this website. >> david, i have a friend who happens to be the head of security for twitter. and he told me a few months ago, he said we spent years, that's our main focus, making sure that your private information is safe and secure. that's what they lose sleep over. do you think the government does that with this website, with these website for these exchanges? >> the answer to that is definitely not. that's a strong definite not.

if you look at the issues that they had, just with keeping the website up, it shows a much larger systemic issue that this was rushed out the door. there wasn't a lot of thought or architecture or infrastructure put behind it. i come from a large background of working with large i.t. infrastructures. rolling out into what we call a production instance has a lot of testing and things like that. so when we -- sorry. go ahead. >> i'm sorry. i was going to ask you the question about how people are being infiltrated. is it by going to the website and putting on their personal information or are they phishing schemes where people send them an e-mail saying, hey, we need more information from you click this link and they're stealing information that way? >> the first is both. what we did is we looked at the website from a hacker's perspective, but not hacking it because that would be illegal. we looked at the website and the security around it and it was extremely lax. a lot of major issues. things we couldn't post online because of sensitivity of the data. that's one major that we saw as a hacker.

absolutely. the second part of that is hackers will always use what's big in the media right now or what's big that someone knows about because it's easier for them to click on something they're familiar with than something they're not. phishing is a major problem, as well. >> how do you know if it's a problem if you're signing up for one of these exchanges? >> this is something that we have to do. we're going to have to sign up for this whether we like it or not. but what we need to focus on is anything with identity flawed or identity threat, is credit being taken out in our names? all of those with key indicators. they just reset everybody's password in the database recently as of last week. that's a sure indicator that something not good is going on behind the scenes. whether it's an i.c. issue or security fwlich, monitor yourself as this is going on. this will be one of the largest central collections of u.s. data in history.
