"fox & friends" starts now. bye. good morning. it is thursday, october 14, 2013. i'm elisabeth hasselbeck. the american people have spoken. obamacare is a joke. and we are not kidding about that. and now even democrats are jumping ship. >> it should be a transition year for one year. there should be no fines. >> could an obamacare delay be underway? >> meanwhile, a kennedy cousin behind bars could walk free today. the reason why? could shock you.

it is a joke. of course very famously now there have been all the website delays, and there's also going to be -- and this was announced late yesterday -- there is going to be a six-week extension where people are going to have six extra weeks to get the insurance before the penalty kicks in. extraordinarily says the white house says this has nothing to do with the website failure. but there was confusion because the law reads you've got to be covered by march 31. or do you simply have to be signed up by march 31? they're going to give you six extra weeks. you simply have to be signed up by march 31. >> they continue to step back saying the website isn't connected to the obamacare implementation. that poll is interesting because it's from august. you had almost 60% in august thinking things were going fine. yet now the 60% think obamacare and the practices are a joke. the more information that comes out, the more the american people are hearing, the more they're realizing this is a ridiculous process they're

flip. it's a train wreck. it's not working. in any political fight, when the truth is on your side, you're in a good situation. here the truth is this thing isn't working. >> that's true, it isn't working. but it also backs up republican critics of ted cruz who said this could have been the major story in september, october, from the 21-hour filibuster on down. the republicans became the story instead of the unworkability it seems of obamacare. also adding to that list, senator mark pryor. you can put him in there, of arkansas. he says, i believe given the technical issues it makes sense to extend the time for people to sign up. senator bill nelson, same thing. >> it seems almost criminal to ask people to sign up and force them to do so with the penalty if they can't when they literally can't. >> another question on our poll, should implementation be delayed while it gets ironed out? a majority of you say yes,

good morning. today is thursday, october 24. i'm elisabeth hasselbeck. the american people starting to weigh in on the president's flagship achievement and the majority of polls call the implementation of obamacare a joke. >> wow. that's not all. the democratic exodus from obamacare is just beginning and it is growing. speaking out against the president. they've also got something else in common for something different. >> it's been a problem for pregnant women as long as we can remember. i can remember this with my wife. >> really? >> why do total strangers ask to touch pregnant women's bellies? >> all the time. >> at the mall, guys would say, hey, lady, can i touch your

hand there. >> that's okay. >> wait 'til you hear about that in just a moment. in the meantime, we've been talking here on this program about obamacare and famously, the web site has really stunk up the place. it doesn't work. the government won't tell us how many people have actually signed on. blue cross-blue shield in north dakota was asked by the federal government, don't share your statistics. but a spokesperson did. so far in north dakota, a total of 14 people have signed up for blue cross-blue shield. other insurers for a total of 20 people in north dakota have signed up. clearly to a lot of people, this thing is a joke and we asked you a poll question about that and you agree. >> right now the number is 60%. in august it was 57. it's going fine. 31% thought it was going fine in august. and right now going fine is exactly the same number. >> 60% say it's a joke.
4:03 am
>> here is the surprise that, it took so long. democrats are looking at the numbers, hearing from their constituents, seeing the problem with the web site itself, and then it seems unfixable from the people they have in charge and they're saying, we have to delay the individual mandate. somebody needs to be fired. all this time during the 16-day delay in the lead up to that, the only guy who was speaking out and saying i'm open to negotiating was senator joe manchin. >> and all the republicans. >> and every republican, because there was no republican support for this entire bill which is now a law. but others have joined the fray. >> we have their images here which is great. they maybe on the white house wall with darts flying at them, but at least they're stepping up to the plate. we have along with joe manchin, representative henry poehler, the chairwoman, debbie wasserman-schultz, senator sheehan ray and we have landrieu

4:06 am
march 31st, you won't get a penalty. >> right. it was more to clarify some cloudy details, one of the cloudy details in the legislation there. but joe manchin, senator, he wants a delay that's more than six weeks. he said let's just fix it. six weeks is not enough. take a listen. >> it should be a transition year for one year. there should be no fines. let's work through the problems. i think everybody recognized them. let's fix it. >> yeah, let's fix it. senator mark pryor in a statement yesterday, i believe given the technical issues, it makes sense to extend the time for people to sign up. he says let's fix it. here is the problem, people, if they don't get fined, that revenue was counted on, unless people were going to write the checks, those healthy people who didn't want to sign up. those people who aren't going to sign up, that fine money is figured in the balancing of this program. who is make up the cost? >> sure. they're counting on 7 million people being signed up. so those that can afford to pay in are right now thinking the

only ones are signing up. so it's leaving them with a great distance and gap in terms of financing their program. >> absolutely. and so because it was so critical that so many people sign up early and because of the snafu's it's impossible, why isn't anybody being held accountable? sebelius will be testifying on capitol hill next week. she's way too busy right now. >> she has a ball to go to. last night she went. >> she did. i think she's in arizona right now. but it's crazy because nobody is being held accountable. nobody has been accountable for this, the irs thing, benghazi. but the one guy at the white house who had a fake twitter address, he gets canned. rick nolan, a congressman from the great state of minnesota, said it's quite frank. keep in mind, he's a democrat and he had the audacity to tell our president to man up. >> a wonderful old expression, you never get a second chance to

make a good first impression. the rollout of the affordable care act or obamacare, whatever up to call it, has done, in my judgment, great damage and harm to the brand. i think the president should man up and let us know who was responsible, who was in charge here and fire them. >> it's amazing because kathleen sebelius, her confidantes, unnamed sources saying she never really had full control of the process. that program that was hired, that company hired, cgi saying, i was given mandates from the government the last minute i couldn't possibly have figured that into the software. in the end, i believe starting today, we got the hearings, it will be a series of people pointing fingers at other people saying don't blame me. >> i don't know if the american people will stand for that. they're going to demand some answers. >> i hope so. but they didn't demand it on fast and furious or benghazi. irs. >> the white house didn't do anything. how many people do you know want to see somebody held accountable? >> democrats have to demand it. republicans have demanded it and have been called partisan. >> it goes to show, this has
4:09 am
become a political hot potato. while they're delaying things, just as the republicans had wanted to, they would never say that, push comes to shove. now they're getting shoved by the american people. >> heather nauert is here with some headlines. >> speaking of wanting answers, germany wants serious answers from the united states. while you were sleeping, major fallout from accusations that the u.s. spied on german chancellor angela merkel's cell phone. u.s. ambassador is now being summoned to german's foreign ministry so explain what took place. the white house says that the u.s. is not and will not monitor merkel. but they didn't mention what may have happened in the past. we'll keep you posted on this one. another problem to tell you about for the bart train system in california. this time a fire breaking out in some train cars. this brand-new video coming into "fox & friends." it shows smoke pouring out from under the cars. all the passengers made it out safely. investigators believe it started after a semiconductor box

i am definitely out. the obamacare is really an inadequate attempt to fix a broken health care system. our system of health care financing, it's broken. it does not work for the patient. it does not work for the doctor. it does not work for anybody. doesn't work for the hospitals. doesn't work for the employer. it does not work for the taxpayer. so if we have a system that doesn't work for anybody, then we need to fix it. but we can't do it with a stop gap method. >> for years, there have been people up on capitol hill who have said we've got to do something because there are a lot of people who do not have adequate health coverage and now they've done this. but i don't know that this is such a good thing. >> well, the affordable care act was the patient protection and
