embarrassing pakistan. his crime, helping the cia search for and track down al qaeda leader osama bin laden. the plan was to verify the location of the man behind the 9/11 attacks. the doctor's undercover operation led to the u.s. navy seal rid on bin laden's compound in may of 2011 and the killing of the u.s.'s public enemy number one. he's a hero in the united states. his fate a source of major tension between the two countries. dominic broke the story and is live from los angeles. dom, this is a huge step forward in getting him free. how close are we to that happening? >> well, it could be months if everything goes smoothly. it's speculation from both that it's hopeful the events could bring about. on tuesday this week during a

visit by pakistan's prime minister to washington, he was taken octo a meeting with the chairman of the house committee on foreign affairs and taken to a room on the side and presented with the head of campaign based here in los angeles. together they cornered the pakistan prime minister to take a commitment to do what he could to free him. he agreed he would actually have the prosecution process reviewed and try and speed up the retrial delayed repeatedly during the course of this year this is actually huge news in moving forward. the issue of getting him out, if not out of pakistan, certainly out of jail where he's been languishing for 2 1/two years. the chairman of the campaign spoked today and described really how pivotal this really was. take a listen. >> he committed an instructed,

officials to washington to talk about this and for more information, they want to know every detail. peter is live with the news in washington, peter? >> harris, they picked today to march because today is the 12th anniversary of the patriot act becoming law. so hundreds of protesters showed up at union station and marched on over to the capitol. they want congress to write a law restricting mass surveillance programs. i took video with my iphone during the march. you can see there were coordinated chants, home made signs and many, many tributes to nsa leaker edward snowden. snowden sent the statement to one of today's speakers. here is a bit of what he said through her. >> we've also learned this isn't about red or blue or party lines, and it is definitely not about terror rism. it's about power, control and trust in government. >> one organizers today said the

rally wasn't about right and left. it was about right and wrong and that was reflected in the speakers who were very politically diverse. >> any reaction tonight from the white house? >> nothing in response to the rally but regarding the diplomatic dust up you mentioned that started when reports came out about americans spying, the white house says an internal review is underway and intelligence programs in question can keep americans safe and moving forward quote ultimately what we need to do is balance the important role the programs play in protecting our national security ex protecting the security of allies with the legitimate privacy concerns that other haves raised. meanwhile, the former secretary of state hillary clinton said this weekend, part of the problem with the information snowden leaked is that it came out bit by bit by bit out of context and not clearly

samuel durrand that surrendered today. he's facing charges for shooting a federal immigration officer. investigators tell us durrand was wanted on a parole violation and taking him turn into a gunfight. >> about another eight to, i don't know, ten shots went off, and then that was all the gunfire. but then it just got crazy. >> and just a short time ago, the immigration department released an update on their man. quote the veteran homeland special agent shot and wounded in roseville, california is in good spirits. he's expected to make a full recovery. hsi wishes to thank the community and law enforcement partners for the outpouring of support and concern. the others hurt are hospitalized tonight, one we're told is in serious condition. right now, concerns of contamination prompting one company to expand a foot recall.

the milwaukee based garden fresh foods is recalling 50 tons of chicken and ham products over concerns about possible list listeria contamination. it can lead to miscarriages in pregnant women and serious illnesses with those with weak immune systems. this is the third recall in four months. they first recalled 9 tons of food in september before recalling an additional 6700 pounds this month. so far, no reports of illnesses. it's one of the most recognized stores in the world, where the famous thanksgiving's day parade makes the final stop here in new york sit tu but a lot of worried people as more than a dozen fire trucks responded to a call, all hands for a fire at macy's in herold square. the top story across america. new york, the macy's flag
