8:02 pm
main problem is president obama himself. for years he has been saying to americans they are not going to have to undergo pain when the health insurance changes. >> first, if you are one of the more than 250 million americans who already have health insurance, you will keep your health insurance. this law will only make it more secure and more affordable. >> well, for many americans that's simply not true. the initial data is clear, health insurance premiums are going up for many working americans and health insurance companies are literally tossing people off the rolls. there is no question that's happening. >> from that podium will you you admit that the president said if you you have a plan you will get to keep it that that was not true. >> let's just be clear. what the president said and what everybody said all along is that there are going to be changes brought along by the affordable care act that create minimum

standards of coverage. it's true there are existing healthcare plans on the individual market that don't meet those minimum standards and, therefore, do not qualify for the the affordable care act. >> so, even the president's spokesman, mr. carney, now admits mr. obama was not quite accurate in his previous statements. the question then becomes did the president knowingly mislead the nation? >> obama knew, even at the time he said it there was no guarantee everybody was going to keep their insurance because people couldn't keep their insurance under the old system. >> so he knew he was lying when he lied? >> i'm sorry? >> he knew he was lying? >> probably, probably. but that's one of those political lies, you know. >> talking points is not convinced clarence page, a liberal, is correct. here is what i think happened. mr. obama brought little critical thinking to the table on obama care and pretty much talked himself into a scenario that he wanted. that is that government can control the american health industry with little consumer downside.
8:04 pm
now, i'm not making excuses for the president. his vision clearly has harmed many of us. and he will pay a steep political price for that. but at this point i'm not willing to say that he intentionally lied. the evidence says he simply did not want to know the truth nor did he seek it. a little bit of difference there it's subtle. and now even the liberal press is reporting negatively on obama care. >> for many middle class americans who buy their own health insurance, there could be another frustration and that is sticker shock. after some learn they must buy new policies that cover more but cost more as well. >> that millions will lose or have to change their individual policies is not a surprise to the administration. nbc news senior investigative correspondent lisa meyers found buried in the 2010 obama care regulations language predicting a reasonable range for the percentage of individual policies that would terminate is 40% to
8:05 pm
67%. >> again, the question is did president obama know about the regulations and the language in the report? i don't believe he did. because he didn't read it. he doesn't pay attention to it. far more damaging than you think. if the president of the united states is not paying attention to details, this country is in huge trouble. talking points said last night and that memo is posted on bill o'reilly.com, the president simply answers he doesn't know on far too many occasions. it's your job to know, mr. president. one the dangers of liberal philosophy is i'dism. low cost healthcare for everybody. they don't take into account the -- imposing so-called

back of the book segment tonight, more attacks on god at the air force academy in colorado. cadets take an honor oath, they swear they will not lie, cheat, or steal. at the end of the oath they say so help me god or at
8:49 pm
least they used to. now the anti-god organization the military religious freedom foundation has won a battle against the oath. it now be optional. here now to analyze monica cawley and alan colmes. monica, who made the decision at the honor academy to make it optional? >> one said it would be optional thing. others west point and other say v. it optional. they said we are happy to do that as well. >> so everybody is happy with this? are you you happy with it. >> i am not happy with it because i think they were subjected to an intimidation campaign by this guy nice weinstein who heads up this religious freedom group. they put the skews like they have so many other organizations there he is and they caved into the pressure. >> you know, look, let's look at it from the atheist point of view. if you are in the air force or army, navy, marines, whatever, you can be a atheist, you are not barred. so you go in and you believe there is no god, so what do you have to say so help me god? doesn't it make sense?
8:50 pm
i think in that case you were never forced to actually say it you could stop the oath before so help me god. so help me god george washington when he was first inaugurated as president impulsively added thatwashingto he was president, added that phrase to the presidential oath of office. and since then, it has been a tradition -- >> how do you know james madison wanted it -- >> it is just a fact, it is all over. james madison wanted to separate church and state, and didn't think god should be -- and thomas jefferson rewrote the bible. >> number one, it is a fact that george washington inserted "so help me god." that is a fact. >> and madison -- >> who reported that? >> it is like who reported george washington was the first president of the united states
8:51 pm
-- >> so i'm going to say you don't know who reported it. as a presidential historian, i have never seen that james madismad -- objected to. >> by the way, there was no oath, under god, or so help me god. all of a sudden, conservatives act like they're being put upon, if they don't want to say it. if you don't want to say it, say it. >> i don't have a beef with it, if you're an atheist and you don't want to say it. but if you're a christian and jew, you can still say "so help me god" if you want to. >> remember the founders when they talked about separation of church and state. it was not barring god from the -- it was the increased secularization of the country -- >> we're a secular country. >> no, that is not true.
8:52 pm
judeo/christian values. >> where are the judeos, there were hardly any -- >> maybe you don't understand, and you should read "killing jesus." when christianity was formed, they incorporated a lot of jewish traditions. and in the supreme court, as you know, there are the ten commandments on display. which is a reminder that our criminal code, justice system is based on the judeo/christian -- >> i agree -- >> but if you really felt strongly, you could move to cuba. and if you really felt it was wrong, you could wake up and say, i'm going somewhere else. >> i can have a difference with things without moving to cuba. >> but i don't want you, alan colmes, to be unhappy. >> when you look at the history
8:53 pm
of the regimes whether they're communist or fascist, one of the first things they do is strip god out of life. and make the state -- we have been arguing about this a long time, the secular progressives, that is what we're arguing here. >> there is no doubt that this nation has changed from primarily the juder/christian -- >> if we're supposed to be a judeo/christian country, why are not -- >> all men are created equal by god. all right, the factor tip of the day. the movie "killing kennedy" ready to be seen by you. the tip moments away. if you've got copd like me, hey breathing's hard. know the feeling? copd includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis. spiriva is a once-daily inhaled copd maintenance treatment
