>> good monday afternoon. first from fox, officials say more than 10,000 people could be dead after one of the worst storms in the history of this world. aid workers say survive aressor frantically searching for food and water. the typhoon ripped through the philippines on friday. unconfirmed reports show the winds reached 195-miles-an-hour. that's far stronger than hurricane katrina ever was. the typhoon so powerful it triggeredded a 20-foot storm surge, tsunami that washed away entire buildings and people inside. others survived the win only to drown in an evacuation center. officials say the piles of wreckage are making it very hard to recover the dead. rescuers report arms and legs

thick trees. now the buildings are shards of plastic and metal ask the trees blown flag to the ground. a cargo ship on the ground. now, to an eastern town with large fishing community. it's on a small peninsula that was no match for the storm's deadly surge. we have satellite picture of this seaside neighborhood. the coast, lined with docks and small boats, and look now. the typhoon tore the docks apart, board by board. the boats now upside-down in the water, just about every home is missing its roof. we're live now in manila. tell it what you have seen. actually, we just -- the connections are very difficult, and i just got word we lost that connection. we'll work to get it back in just a moment. here's just a few ways you can help with this devastation. the unites nations world food

mother, and the head animalkeeper at the facility. it's described as the last hope for more than 60 abandoned or abused wildcat, including bobcats, cougars and tigers. it was a cougar that attacked the woman. the sanctuary claimed the victim may have violated safety rules because staffers are supposed to work in pairs, and lock the animals securely before entering an enclosure. but this worker was by herself. trace gallagher is live. how many cougars in the sanctuary? >> reporter: ten cougars inside the sanctuary and their much more active at night. this attack happened at 7:30 p.m. west coast time. it's unclear as to why 36-year-old renee chapman was inside that closure alone, clear hill she broke the rules. some workers say it might be because she had been there for ten years, was very confident
12:06 pm
and comfortable with these cats. but just a shooter time ago the victim's mother came out and said her daughter was often left alone at that sanctuary with no help at all, and that she had in the past expressed concerns about her safety before. the sanctuary has not yet commented on that mom's report. keep in mind, this facility is not open to the public. >> not the first animal handler to die on the job this year, trace. >> reporter: no. it's the fourth. we have had a rash of these things. last month, a 62-year-old elephant manager in missouri was charged and killed by a 41-year-old elephant. that elephant apparently had been in that facility -- this is not it -- had been there along with his handler for some 25 years. and then in fresno earlier this year, 24-year-old intern was actually killed by a lion. the intern didn't go into the

cage. the woman was working in a play area, and the lyon -- the lyon escaped into the play area where she was killed, and then earlier this year in oklahoma, another woman stuck her arm into a lion's closure, or tiger's closure, he arm was attacked. she was able to pull it out. she is now back on the job. >> trace, thanks. we were reporting on the devastation in the philippines from the deadly storm. mike cohen is there but we lost the connection. we have been able too re-establish that and join mike live now. mike, where are we in this? >> right now we're entering the fourth day of this situation here in the philippines. and at this point in time you have a lot of people helping. the united states, japan, even israel sent a mobile hospital out here. so there's a lot of help coming in. you have people in desperate need in many of these communities that have been hit. 36 provinces across the entire middle of the country, nine
12:08 pm
million people live in this area who are affected, and obviously there are americans among them. this is the largest expat community here, 300,000, and there are those that live in those areas that are affected. the u.s. military is sending in planes on an almost hourly basis to many locations. there's so many places that have been hit and affected. it's getting difficult to get help to them. the philippine government is saying, we're stopping the official count to some extent. they're still releasing numbers on the death toll but they're concentrating on the livings' getting help to those people in need. >> mike, as late as this morning, the word was that they haven't even gotten reports out of some of the smaller towns to the south. what do you know? >> let's take an example of an island, people there have been farming -- this is the first day they have been able to re-establish communication by cell phone. so, you have a community that is 100,000 people who live there.
12:09 pm
and now they're just finding out that 300 people are buried in mass graves because there's no refrigerationor bodies. so you have situations lining that. it's very much like what happened with the tsunami a few years ago. you have a lot of places wiped out. no power. no communication. airports wiped out. in many cases like tacloban, and all of the conditions combining to make things worse. the physical president declared a state of emergency and put troops on guard. some relief convoys have threatened to shoot looters who attempt to go near the convoys, bringing supplies and medical equipment to the areas. >> what a disaster. mike cho hen live with us from manila. thank you very much. the united states and its allies coming together on a deal curb iran's nuclear activity. but iran wouldn't have it. coming up, secretary of state john kerry weighs in, and we'll get analysis.
12:10 pm
12:12 pm
12:13 pm
secretary of state john kerry. he spoke at a news conference today with a foreign minister of the united arab emirates. he said iran rejected a proposed nuclear deal over the weekend. >> there was unity, but iran couldn't take it at that moment. they weren't able to accept that particular agreement. so, hard work was done, progress was made. the p-5 plus one was united. there is a gap still between what language may be appropriated they're prepared to accept. but the concept we are all working on, we have absolute unity on. >> there's a gap for now. iranian state television reports the rogue nation has agreed to grant wider access to u.n. nuclear inspectors, including access to a new reactor, of course, that could improve talks between iran and the other world powers. iran claims its nuclear programes for peaceful purposes
12:14 pm
only. >> let's get to nicholas burns, former state department undersecretary and harvard professor to boot. nick, good to see you. thank you. >> thanks, shep. >> it's hard for a lot of us to understand exactly what is happening here, whether iran is trying too buy time or whether iran is trying to do something about these sanctions and making changes along the way. >> i think iran really wants the sanctions released. that's why they're negotiating, because the sanctions have been effective over the last year, and seems to me the administration is following a very sensible approach. but secretary kerry was trying to get iran to do was freeze the enrichment program. the key program they're working on. for the life of these negotiations, and it appears that deal was on the table but the iranians couldn't quite agree, as we know, there are a lot of different view in tehran and they may be arguing whether to accept the deal. >> safe to assume the supreme leader is making the calls here?
12:15 pm
>> i think. so the revolutionary guards have influenced. the reformers do, but at the end of the day, most decisions are made by the supreme leader. he is very hard-line, very critical of the united states, and cynical's the united states. i think the obama administration has been tough here. and if we can get this suspension of enrichment, it's in our interest, in israel's interest, in the interests of the europeans as well. >> the israelis are not on board, at least with the framework we have here. >> they don't appear to be, no. prime minister netanyahu has launched a public campaign against it, and i certainly understand and sympathize with israel's concerns about iran, but it would be much better if israel has a beef with the united states, to argue privately, but not to argue publicly. only iran's going to benefit pun the united states and israel.
12:16 pm
so far better for prime minister netanyahu not to take on president obama publicly, but let's have a discussion behind the scenes. that's what allies and friends do. >> is there a consensus on how much access to these sites and the enrichment program is enough access? >> i don't think there is. there is an agreement today between the international atomic energy agency in iran that they would allow more access to the iaea but it's not enough. the military site that a lot of people have concerns about are still closed. so the iranians are not being as forthcoming as they profess to be, and i think -- continue to think we need have a very tough-nosed approach here towards the iranians. i think secretary kerry is doing that. we just need to keep moving forward and hopefully there will be an agreement on this first phase, and that's only the beginning, shep. after that, then we get down to the really tough issues, how do you keep iran from becoming a nuclear weapons power. how do you give them some right
12:17 pm
to civil nuclear operations but not number clear weapons. that's the far, far tougher face of these negotiations. >> a lot of work ahead. nice to see you. thank you. >> thank you. >> speaking of iran, two members of an iran an indie rock band died in a townhouse in brooklyn. a gunman shot and killed the two iranian immigrants and another musician, then killed himself on the roof to the building. tops and other victims survived the shooting. the band is called the yellow dogs and reportedly start inside iran in 2006, held practices and even concerts, secret, to avoid punishment from the authorities. the new york post newspaper reports the band had kicked the shooter out of the group last year for stealing, and acquaintance of the band saying when something like this happens the pains radiate throughout the community, feeling the heavy loss. and in this case it's even more

compounded because the victims were young and had come in the united states with their dreams within reach. well, national security agency spying programs have drawn a huge backlash from privacy advocates and a lot of americans. now one group is trying to get the supreme court to take up the case. what that might mean coming up. the abc news correspondent amy robach has now revealed she has breast cancer and found out because of a segment she did for good good -- "good morning america." that's next on fox news deck. if you think a prune is a prune, you haven't tried sunsweet, the amazing prune. enjoy plum amazins, diced prunes.
