wind atop the debris. emergency crews will be out searching all of the damage to find survivors. an area of cold city was also hit hard with tornadoes causing buildings to collapse. >> joining us now by phone the public information officer for grundy county, ema. what have you seen so far? describe the scene for us? >> so what are with we have seen we have seen quite a bit of damage to residences and commercial businesses in the area. we have seen some businesses and buildings that have collapsed. luckily we have not had the people injured as well as through out the streets and they were transported into the hospital. we were lucky enough not to have fatalities. there was quite a bit of damage to our area. >> this is heather.

how long have you been in this area and when have you seen others to this extent and can you compare it to other outbreaks in the past? >> i have grown-up in the area quite a bit specifically to the cold city area. this is the first that i know of that is specific to this. >> nick, i was reading earlier that police had to take dogs out. you clook at these pictures thee houses are crumbled piles of debris now. i was reading police were taking dogs out to hneighborhoods because so many were trapped in this. >> we only had one location where our fire crews were out of this building. beyond that everybody was able to self extra kate themselves. i believe most were due to the early warnings they received from the national weather

latest in the weather center. states from illinois and indiana hit really hard. how many reports of tornadoes did we see yesterday. 68 tornadoes in states like illinois, indiana and even across portions of ohio. we received over 300 reports of damaging winds. basically winds in excess of 50 miles per hour. what happened yesterday we had the strong cold front pushing eastward and basically you have warm air east of cold fronts behind it you have colder air. it really starlints to produce e retation in the storms. that is what does produce these tornado touchdowns. this particular outbreak could go down in the record book as one of the top five worst tornado outbreaks in history for

the months of november. it is unusual seeing this kind of activity during fall time typically we see the activity during the spring months with warm air ahead of it. we have a thunderstorm watch early this morning across parts of the northeast. we had severe thunderstorm warning north of the new york city area. our thoughts and prayers with all of those people in the midwest. >> absolutely. we will continue our coverage through out the morning. thank you so much maria molina. >> shocking video captured as a man plunges from the third death of the stadium in buffalo during the bill's game. you can see the man straddling the balcony. he hit the orphan hitting him on the head. the man who fell injured his

shoulder. luckily both are expected to be okay. this morning an investigation underway following a deadly mining accident in a southwestern colorado town. investigators say two u ray miners died on carbon monoxide poisoning. there was an incident with explosives. two remain hospitalized. >> 50 people are dead after a boeieau jetliner crashed while attempting to land in kazan. when it touched down on the runway it was destroyed and caught fire killing yefrp one on board. this according to the spokesperson from the russian agency. it was not clear why it was your honor successful. it will provide assistance to that crash investigation.

heartland. now further east there's a slight chance for severe weather. we are looking at large hail and damaging winds. be concerned about the new york city area long island southern parts of connecticut and widespread sections of southern emergency new jersey. this is in effect until 10:00 a.m. eastern time. severe weather risks much higher. we have severe weather forecast in terms of strong winds across parts of the northeast so up state new york and pennsylvania we could be seeing wijdz today 50 to 60 miles an hour. we have a number of advisories and warnings in effect. out here we could be looking at strong winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour but no advisories or warnings in effect for you. >> that area doesn't need any

expire next month. the program provide employment benefits after state benefits run out. it was last extended at the beginning of this year as part of a deal to divert fiscal cliffs with spending cuts. the chances of that happening again don't look very good despite a push from congressional democrats and the white house. the program is still necessary due to the sluggish recovery and still high jobless rate. it will cost 250 billion and more. they will discuss the right stance on this issue yet. they are struggling to find alternatives in sequestration cuts. the chances of an extension before congress adjourns are slim. if the program does expire as many as 4.8 million affected is
