dozens of tornadoes leaving a deadly trail of destruction across the midwest. >> oh my god! it's huge! it's huge! it's huge! >> that woman capturing incredible video of the storm while driving on the highway. we're live in illinois with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: steve, good morning to you. as you mentioned, at least six people are dead. dozens more are injured. it still remains unclear with much of the power out, many roads unpassable how many are injured and if that death toll will rise. here in manhattan, illinois, an assembly of god church was hit by an ef-2 tornado while the entire congregation was inside trapping them there until rescuers could come in. miraculously only minor injuries were there. the worst damage appears to be in washington outside of peoria. the ef4 storm hit with

winds between 100 and 200 miles an hour. we're told it cleared a path about an eighth of a mile wide from one side of the city to the other. search and rescue operations underway there. about more than 200 homes were completely leveled is what we're told. the illinois national guard sent theirs to assist with the search and rescue operations. as the sun comes up in a few hours they will get a better idea of how extensive this damage was across the state as well as the region. steve? >> thank you very much. it is just awful out there. we saw a moment ago, we saw a young man who had his camera, cell phone camera taking images of a tornado coming toward his neighborhood while saying the our father. he was down in the basement. he is going to be joining us live very shortly to tell us about what his family was up against. they were really, really lucky. >> that account will be just shocking i think to so

many to hear, especially if you've seen that video. >> in other news, obamacare and all the conundrum that goes along with it doesn't get better. now senator jill -- gillibrand admitting we knew the president was lying about obamacare. she was asked if she was shocked by the revelation so many people would be losing their care. take a listen. >> do you feel misled by obama? >> he should have been more specific. the point is if you're being offered a terrible health care plan that the minute you get sick you're going to have to go into bankruptcy, those plans should never be offered. >> were you misled? >> he should have been specific. no. we knew. the point of the plan is to cover things people need like preventive care, birth control, pregnancy. >> the important part senator gillibrand, she said at the end we all knew. the whole point of the plan

is to cover things people need like preventive care, birth control and things of that sort. the president wants, if you got a lousy subpar policy you can keep it for another year, one more year. but they all knew according to the senator. >> i find it interesting that the senators who are up for election this term in 2014 in november are the ones who are pushing back saying we unrolled this wrong. we have to rethink this a little bit. but senators like kirsten gillibrand is a little more aggressive saying we knew what they were doing. but it will be okay over time. >> to your point, senator gillibrand actually responded to the question is it just about the reelections and she indeed did say she was just responding to what the constituents in her area were saying. they're hearing the battle cry. it seems as though to many that their actions and words are not matching.

government about how it's all screwed up. she refers now to the controversy around obamacare as just hoopty-do. here she is on "meet the press." >> when people see what is in the bill, they will like it. and they will. so while there's a lot of hoopty-do and ado about what's happening, very appropriate. i'm not kreut saoeugz. i'm saying it took a -- i'm not criticizing. i'm saying it took a great deal to pass this bill. >> today the story of a 54-year-old woman distressed because in the process of this interim she reached out to her customer service representative at her insurer and she said she's going to maybe have to wait 45 more days to even get some answers. people distressed losing the coverage they loved. and when is 80% good enough? wasn't the initial promise that everyone was supposed to be taken care of here? and now 80% is good enough? why are we continuing to lower the bar? >> they've enrolled about

106,000 people so far. only 26,000 through the website. but five million people have lost their coverage. a lot of hoopty-do, 4.9 something million people are uninsured because of obamacare. not more people insured. >> dave camp, chairman of the house, ways and means committee, he took exactly what you just gave, those facts and he put it a different way. he said that the number of people who have had their plans canceled is 185 times higher than the number of people who have actually signed on. >> what's the hoopty-do all about? come on. any way. >> it looks like there's some suggestion maybe the president needs to clean house at the white house. do you think? because he says he was kept in the dark about so much stuff. >> he's always kept in the dark. he heard about benghazi, he heard about the i.r.s., he heard about all these things. >> we're always updating. you know why?

miners died late last night from carbon dioxide poison. those gases believed to have been released following an incident with explosives. 20 others were hurt in that accident. two of them remain hospitalized. in russia 50 people are dead after a boeing jetliner crashes and bursts into flames while trying to take off. according to the russian aviation agency, the plane was attempting to make a second landing when it touched down on the runway, it caught fire killing everyone on board. we still don't know why the first landing was unsuccessful but boeing will be assisting with that crash investigation. we all know hothead actor alec baldwin trying to tone down things after a week of full major meltdown with the press. this morning the same tkaurgt -- daughter he once called a rude thoughtless pig is rushing to his defense. she said he has anger management issues after he got into a shouting match

gentleman's name that sent that video out. when you see that devastation, is this something that is becoming worse every year? that is awful to see, awful to hear. what are we doing? >> while it is very rare to see this kind of outbreak, tornado outbreak during the month of november, so it is very rare, it has happened before. i have a chart i will show in a couple of minutes. it is rare to see this kind of activity during the month of november. to say we're seeing more of this happening every year, i think that is tough to say. >> november is the striking fact? >> yes. >> that is what makes it rare. i think right now what we're seeing, more tornado on film or on video -- >> exactly. >> because everyone has a camera. everyone has a camera. there are more people living in many of these areas so they get reported easier. you have facebook now, twitter. social media has allowed the reports of these

tornadoes or damaging winds to be reported often. you can see on your screen some of those images heart breaking. there was an ef-4 tornado that was confirmed. 166 to 200 miles per hour winds. many crews will be heading out to these states, ohio, indiana, illinois, some of those states that have tornado reported. they're going to survey the damage and based on what they see they can estimate what wind speeds -- >> there is no good time for a tornado but certainly as we are heading into holiday season, thanksgiving, we have the winter coming and cold. i can't imagine -- >> yes. that's something also to point out. many of these people do not have power and temperatures behind the storm, this is a very strong cold front pushed eastward. had mile temperatures east of it, behind it very cold. temperatures, the highs only in the 40's. very windy, gusts up to 30

this is something great. eric was once upon ao time a professional athlete and elisabeth has one of her causes, concussions with helmets and stuff like that. i want you guys to weigh in on this. a new york democrat wants to ban tackle football before the age of 14. >> as it stands the current text of the bill has players younger than 11 prohibited in terms of tackling. obviously the risk is greater as they're writing for those younger than 14 developing brains and concussions. what do you think? how many concussions have you had? >> i'm not sure. i have a 14-year-old, 15-year-old son now. i encourage him to play whatever sport he wants to play. i think it's on the coaches and the parent to make sure they're taught the proper

way. >> that's the key. >> hitting, you get hit in basketball. if you're taught how to hit and how to take a hit, you're going to be okay. i think he's off base on this. it's up to the parents and coaches, in my opinion. >> i'm not sure if moving the goal post will solve the actual problem. it may be covering up what's going on. i think understanding how to take a hit, give a hit. tim, my husband, is speaking on a concussion panel this week and will be going into a bunch of details. here's the great news. the technology to monitor what type of impact your child may withstand throughout the day is actually getting better. we'll have more information to sort of couple with the new studies coming out saying these kids are having concussions, sort of started with the nfl and the results we're seeing with brain disease. hopefully that tech will match the risk. i like the helmet.

they're in limbo. what do they do now? try searching for another plan? these are the details. this is what's happened. these patients, they're in limbo. >> 350,000 doctors? >> yes. in the program. we don't know how many thousands have been dropped. but thousands have been dropped. what about their patients? what about the people who used to have this doctor who now no longer have this doctor? broken promise. >> many of those people are women who are expecting babies and who have a real relationship with their physician and want to see the same doctor deliver possibly their second child and they are now left in the dark at a time they are feeling quite vulnerable. >> most of them are elderly and how do they go about keeping the doctor they have had for many, many years? what do they do now? >> earlier in the commercial we were talking about next year when the employer mandate comes out look for -- to your point -- a lot of families who have the family doctor they loved forever.

there is a real good possibility that millions of americans will lose their doctor next year with the employer mandate. >> that is correct. >> medicare advantage is supplemental insurance so why would the doctors be affected by supplemental insurance. it is not part of obamacare. >> the federal government pays the insurers a per patient fee to take care of medicare advantage customers. that payment is being cut by $150 billion under obamacare. >> can i take it one step further? and we saw this coming. we talked about medicare, people who are on medicare advantage might start to lose their doctor, might start to lose their insurance. let me be con speur toreial. aarp says they have a competitor to medicare advantage. are people going to be forced to look at aarp and those types of companies to supplement their insurance? >> they are going to be forced to look elsewhere because united health care is dropping these thousands of doctors, pushing hundreds of thousands of patients out of their system of coverage. they've got to look

actually is trying to embrace the community. that's what we tried to do. >> so what would you say overreaching mistake churches make? >> oh, mercy. being too introverted. not getting in touch with the community, knowing what the community is about, getting involved in things that are just kind of community driven. we build these facilities and we talk church language and we expect everyone to come in and get what they need to openly take that back out into the community, but a lot of times folks don't focus on what the community needs are and hear from the community and get out there and start to tailor their passions and their ministries around what is unique to that particular community. >> how many churches have you seen where it's just impossible, you've looked and say, you know what? i've got the faith to do this, but it's practically not going to happen? >> we haven't seen a church that is impossible. >> unless they've already closed the doors. >> because every church has a focus in the church. the community needs that church.

in manhattan, illinois, now the latest. certainly devastating sight. what's the latest there? >> well, that devastation goes all across the state of illinois. especially in the central part of the state. that is where we are seeing some of the worst damage this morning as the sun comes up. we're starting to get a better idea of how widespread this devastation is. the video that you've seen down there is just incredible, just how expansive this tornado was. we're told the winds of that tornado exceeded 200 miles an hour, demolishing entire neighborhoods. serve and rescue teams were on the ground all throughout the night searching for any survivors. as the sun comes up, they're going to be continuing those efforts there. what were once neighborhoods, as you can see, are rubble everywhere down across there, across blocks and blocks.

we have other news to bring you. shocking new video coming in. look at this right here. it's from a fan and he plunges from the third deck of ralph wilson stadium in buffalo, new york. look at that. this happened last night during the game between the bills and the jets. it looks like the guy was sliding down the railing on the upper deck. you know how high those things are at stadiums. then he obviously lost his balance and fell to the deck below. he landed on another fan and hit that guy in the head. both were taken to the hospital, but are expected to be okay. this morning an investigation underway following a deadly mining accident in southwestern colorado. investigators say that two miners died last night from carbon monoxide poisoning. those gasses are believed to have been released following some sort of incident with explosives in that mine. 20 other people were hurt in that accident. two of them still remain hospitalized this morning. in russia, 50 people are

dead after a boeing jet liner crashes and bursts into flames while it tries to land. according to the russian aviation agency, the plane was attempting a second landing when it touched down on the runway and then caught fire. it killed everyone on board that plane. we still don't know why the first landing was your honor successful -- unsuccessful, but boeing will assist in the crash investigation. sunday's raiders game had serious presidential power on the side lines. presidents george w. and h.w. bush led the players on the field at reliant stadium in houston and served as the honorary captain and paid tribute to our service members and their families as part of the texans salute to service week. the texans lost to the raiders 28-23. those are your headlines for this hour. how about that? they got both in the stadium. >> pretty neat. >> thank you. it's monday, that means donald trump is joining us.

good morning to you. >> good morning. >> friday they had a vote in the house, over three dozen house democrats defected from the president, went over to the republican side for the fred upton bill. that's probably one of the reasons nancy pelosi was on the "meet press" program yesterday. listen to this where she refuses to admit she was wrong even though she's been caught. listen to this. >> the government has decided there have to be minimum standards that are minimum requirements in any health care plan. so if you have something and you like it and it doesn't meet what the government says you have to have, you can not keep it. >> that's not what you said. >> if you had your plan before the enactment of the law in 2010, if you had your plan before, there is nothing in the law that says you have -- but you know, again, we can go back and forth on this. >> she did they got caught! >> well, she's got a tough job.

she's trying to sell something that's not sellable. she's having a very, very tough time up there. you can see that. it's not easy for her. and it's a disaster and the democrats are coming over because they have no choice. they're going to lose their elections. 2014, three our four weeks ago was not look good fort republicans. now i think it's probably looking great. they can take both house. it's a shame they have to do it on the backs of so many people that are being devastated. people are being devastated. they're losing health plans and plans they thought were so fabulous and they were so happy with and they're being taken away or being charged double, triple and quadruple and it's a mess. it's a really big mess. so when you see nancy pelosi just groveling up there, there is nothing much she can do. on the assumption she wants to try to defend this and it's not defensible. >> how long can she get away with it or down playing it? over 5 million americans losing

policies and counting. some are depicting it as chaos coming forward in this interim forward of extension. what did she say, hoop deloo. >> it's phrases we haven't heard of. i'm sure she hasn't heard that. she was up there doing the best she could. it's a very, very tough situation for them. you look at the republicans. nobody should be happy because you're talking about health care and that's the whole ball game. but the republicans really have an opportunity now to straighten this thing out and they should not do it in little pieces. they should not try and do it in little piece. if you remember four weeks ago when the republicans wanted to ask for little pieces of the economy, when you had the shutdown, the democrats said, we want all or nothing every time. even things that you would say oh, boy, they have to -- but they said we want nothing. we want all or nothing. now the republicans have to do the same thing. 'cause there is a chance in this country to get great health

care, really great health care, go across state lines. there are so many different things you can do. get great health care at a lesser cost. that would be a winner. >> let's play a little strategy. there are solutions, a lot of republicans say the health care state lines and things like that, bring some competition, et cetera. but let's play politics for a second here. you got 2014 looming a year away. you have 2016 a couple years away. the only way you're going to elicit real health care change is if you flip the senate to republican and maybe get a republican in the white house. so do you fix obama's problem right now? do you throw a hand and say here is how you fix health care now or say, you know what? you own it, you bought it. you live with it. we'll fix it when we have the senate, the house, and the white house? >> eric, first of all, you have to take -- let's take politics out of it and do the right thing. by the way, i like steve's tie much more than yours. okay? when which is nonexistent. i love it.

main stream media at it again. the "new york times" comparing the failures of obamacare to president bush's handling of hurricane katrina. shear a quote. the disastrous rollout of his health care law not only threatens the rest of his agenda, but also raises questions about his competence in the same way the bush administration's botched response to katrina undermined any semblance of republican efficiency. so is that a fair comparison? joining us right now is former white house chief of staff, andy card, joining us from college station, texas. good morning to you. >> great to be with you, steve. quick answer is i think it's comparing apples and oranges. katrina was a real disaster, but

we also are jurisdictional challenges because you had a mayor and the white house couldn't do anything with the mayor objecting. we had a governor of louisiana that was a challenge to work with. we had a governor of mississippi that was a joy to work with. so i don't think it's really apples and oranges. i think that the botched response to the obamacare rollout has been a disaster that is really housed within one administration. the executive branch of government and that would be president obama's team and specifically hhs. so this is not a situation where katrina you had the department of defense, you had the federal emergency management agency, homeland security, you had the mayor of new orleans. you had the governor of louisiana. you had lots of different entities and the rules for dealing with a natural disaster are very different than the command and control responsibilities the president can grab and really use to make things happen. the obama administration did not make things happen well. >> i'm glad you mentioned natural disaster.

george bush didn't invent a hurricane, whereas obamacare was invented by the president, his team and the house of representatives under the tutelage of nancy pelosi. >> it was written entirely by their team. it was jammed down the throats of the congress and the people. but i really want people to step back and understand that -- i want people in washington to step back and understand that there are real people being impacted by this debauchle of the rollout. we've got to get together. i wish that the president would make changes in his administration. i hope that they would work to solve the problem rather than just cite other people who had problems and try to blame them. a, i'm no different than that person. this is a real problem for millions of americans and the number of people who are confused right now is probably historically high. >> you know, we've heard so many times, the president didn't know about the web site problems. he was kept in the dark on this and that. is it time for some heads to roll and get some fresh blood in

stopped raining across new york city and surrounding areas. so that's good news. we're seeing quieter weather here. but the storm that produced rain here in new york city is the storm responsible for all of the severe weather. that outbreak occurred yesterday across parts of illinois, ohio. we've been telling you throughout the morning hours there were up to 68 reported tornadoes and there is a chart that i want to show you because that outbreak from yesterday could be one of the top five worst outbreaks for tornadoes during the month of november. national weather service crews will have to head out and survey the damage and confirm or basically not confirm those tornadoes that are reported across many of these areas. the damage really is just heart breaking across many of these states and it's likely many of them will be confirmed. there was already an ef-4 tornado confirmed with winds between 166 and 200 miles per hour. again, that storm out of the area, behind is, we are seeing stronger winds and no state impacted by tornadoes could be looking at wind gusts up to

now more from manhattan, illinois, with the latest. garrett? >> reporter: steve, you can see crews are getting back out this morning beginning to fix those power lines, open up these neighborhoods again. people are getting back to these homes that they had to leave yesterday. officials say as they they're surveying the area this morning, they'll get a better idea of how widespread this damage is throughout the region. the worst damage we are seeing is in washington. that is the tornado that maria was talking about, the winds between 160 and 200 miles an hour, demolished entire neighborhoods there. search p rescue teams were on the ground throughout the afternoon and evening last night looking for anyone that was injured there. we are told dozens and dozens of people were injured. they're going to be continuing those efforts this morning. the illinois national guard is on scene as well assisting with the search and rescue efforts. we will continue to get updates throughout this morning on just what the situation looks like as

we started looking into this. think about this, what does that really mean if something is a sell by? sell by is a store regulation. stores decide when it looks the best to sell it. use by is really much more about the best quality time to use it by. and then best buy is about taste. so they have no government regulation whatsoever on top of them. there are numbers that don't have a lot to do with toxicity, food that might be bad for you and mops make decisions about whether to throw away the dairy based on the sell by date. >> isn't it safe to say you're throwing it out by the use by date, you're going to steer clear of toxicity? >> it's a mistake because you're throwing away foods that are perfectly good to eat. and some foods, like canned -- the stamp on a canned food is the date it was canned. not the best buy date. >> what about mold on bread? can you take off the moldy part? >> you can't toast it and make

veto threat for and 39 house democrats voted for it. they tried to explain it away overt weekend, different democratic leaders saying that was just responding to constituents. but clearly there is a split in the democratic party. >> bret, 39 house democrats probably ones up against tough republicans in their districts voted to jump ship and vote with the republicans. what about the rest of them? what about the other 100 and 60 or so that may not have such a tough fight, you think they'll start to jump ship, too? >> listen, if you look at senator diane feinstein, democrat from california, she signed on to mary landrieu's piece of legislation, that's a little different than fred upton's, but also if you like your insurance, you can keep it, and she's in the bluest of blue states and not up for reelection. so i think you may start to see other democrats do just that. there is clearly a split here. while the president came out and said we should be able to fix this with regulations, there are

a lot of lawmakers on capitol hill who doubt that and think there needs to be a legislative fix. >> as much as some are responding to their constituents, you have those like nancy pelosi and kirsten gillibrand that are still standing strong for this program. listen to this. >> i don't think you can tell what will happen next year, but i will tell you this, democrats stand tall in support of affordable care act. >> they're worried. they're worried. and i think it's not only normal, but our job is to fix these problems. so if they're trying to allay someone's concern to say we're going to make sure there is something affordable and during this transition period where implementation has been rocky, we'll allay your concerns, that's reasonable. >> rocky, to say the least. >> right. listen, they're preparing people to get let down again because the web site will not be fully operational by the end of the month. >> 80%. that's close enough, isn't it? come on!

for their canceled insurance plan. he said, the action undercuts the purpose of the exchanges, including the district's dc health link by creating exceptions that make it more difficult for them to operate. white said that the mayor's office never mentioned his criticism when he was let go. says the timing just cannot be ignored. he was quickly replaced by a administration insider, chester mcpherson. a turkeyless thanksgiving? turkey powerhouse, butter ball, say there is a nationwide shortage of fresh birds that weigh 16 pounds or more. the company says that that shortage is due to turkeys not gaining enough weight this season, but says they're not -- they're not saying why they're smaller. butterball says there are frozen turkeys available and if you want a fresh one, there are plenty of those, too, but they're under 16 pounds. you've got a house full of people, then you need a couple of turkeys then. >> i think the turkeys are

♪ ♪ ♪ >> president obama claimed he had the fix to make obamacare work by renewing those canceled plans. but peter johnson, jr. says it's more like that song, the sting. >> and the 5 million people who lost their policies, they're the mark. the president said last week, well, yeah. you kind of going to get it back. the insurance commissioners, if they want to do it, then you'll get it back and if the insurance companies want to do it, then you're going to get it back. now insurance commissioners are getting fired because they're not agreeing with the plan and some states are disagreeing with it and then he's meeting in the white house with insurance executives and it's a big sting. what's going to happen to these 5 million people? they'll get it back at 30 or 40, 50% more. and the federal government will say, you know, really you should

be in the exchanges and they'll say, yeah, i'd love to be, but i can't get on the exchanges and so am i in violation of law come january 1 or have to pay a penalty? >> 5 million so far. could go a lot higher. you're an attorney, peter. why -- did president obama lie when he said you could keep your health care or doctor, period? >> you need to know people's intentions. he said it 30 something times. he said it repeatedly. he said it after the administrative fix that changed the law. to the evidence as it compounds seems to be an intentional statement. i don't call presidents liars. i have too much respect for the office. but it appears to be a lie. but the bigger issue is not the lie. people can't get treatment based on someone telling a lie or telling a truth. they suffer hash as a result of it. so if there is one lie, is there a second lie? was the second lie last week that yeah, i'm restoring this. the president hasn't restored

it. there hasn't been a policy that's been reinstated as a result. so what's going to happen is there is going to be this kind of combine between the president and the insurance industry where they say listen, insurance industry, i know i screwed up. i know i've messed up your industry. try and do it. if you can't do it, you're going to raise your premiums and make money anyway and i'm probable will he going to blame you. so just sit back and take the hit because you have higher premiums. now, the marks are the 5 million americans who lost their policies. they're the people who are hurt by this sting. >> peter, so they put the law through and it gets voted on in congress, goes all the way through and become law. >> sure. >> legally, constitutionally, i guess. whatever. the supreme court said yes. can he change that law with the signing of a pen, the executive order, saying we're going to delay part of the law and then now more recently saying we're not going to do what we said we were going to do? >> what happened is they passed a law and then passed regulations really in the dead of night, no one knows what

regulations are being -- it's constitutional in terms of yes, you can pass a regulation, yes you can hold back on administratorring the regulation. but is it ethical? is it moral? does it sit with what we think our government should be doing? is it the consent of the governed to say 30 something times that you're going to do it one way and do it another way and then have 5 million people or more hurt as a result of it and then come forward with a fix that's not really a fix that gets people's hopes up? their hopes should be up that their increases are not too great. basis. >> can i make an observation? you held your composure. it was incredible. in the face of him bashing at you and almost like -- bark at you and almost head butting you, you had such composure. were you rattled at all? >> i was unsettled because i did not expect that at all. even as he was approaching me, i thought okay. i'm a woman, maybe he's going to treat me a little differently here. i don't know if you can tell, but i'm on the phone talking to one of my bosses about what's going on and then all of a sudden, i see him coming over to me. so i continued to stay on the phone so my boss could hear the exchange that was going on. >> you had a moment of fear? >> it was unsettling. >> does he owe you an apology? >> not in a million years would i ever get an apology from them. but in this case, i respect him for defending his wife and for believing what she said. that's what a spouse should do. in this case, though, she got it wrong and he got it wrong. in a big way. >> he should never, ever talk to a person, let alone a woman, in that manner.
