there are plenty of questions being raised about president obama's deal with a nuclear iran. one of the big concerns comes from my next guest, the wife of pastor said abadini who's been in prison in iran for more than a year. his family and the supporters believe talks with iran were the best hope for securing his release. they are now blasting the administration for failing to find a solution during these so-called negotiation. said is an american citizen who was detained in iran for practicing christianity. he remains in a very dangerous prison today where his wife is concerned he may not survive. joining me now to explain is the pastor's wife. representing their family from the american center for law and justice, jay seculo. tell us a story about your husband and how he got detained there. >> he was there working on a government-approved orphanage working with the iranian government.

he traveled to iran more than nine, ten times since 2009. the kids and i went with him in 2011. we felt safe. we were working with the government he left in june to finish up the orphanage, make the final approval for the board member and they put him under house arrest july to september and in prison in september of 2012. he's been given an eight-year sentence because there was nothing related to the recent trip. about a month ago he was moved to an even more dangerous prison with inmates on death row for murder and rape. >> didn't that happen after the administration asked for his release, he was sent to a much tougher prison? isn't that true? >> exactly.
7:27 pm
president obama called and asked for his release. the secretary of state asked for his release. iran's reaction was to move him to a worse prison and into a worse ward. not just a political ward but a ward that's filled with murderers and rapists. they did it on the day they were chanting "death to america." this is not a confidence-building step on their part. they are not sending a positive message. this would have been our best chance at leverage of getting him out of their lives. >> what's your reaction and president? he's negotiating a huge deal that iran needs. the sanctions were working. they will get access to billions of dollars. in some cases more. they could negotiate the release of the husband and they would not. what do you want to say to him? >> that would have been an easy precondition. he could have easily said to release the americans before we continue with negotiations.

7:29 pm
it is an outrage. i hold the president responsible. as a precondition to signing and executing the deal and easing sanctions it would have been easy for the iranian regime to release the americans if it was a priority for the united states. apparently that's not the case. i was on a call as we have been discussing with the state department for months. i said today, you know, the problem is every time there is a mention of it you're telling me there is no response from the iranians. here it was that we generate today or over the weekend over $5 billion in aid plus humanitarian relief and don't get the return of americans being held hostage by the people we are negotiating with at the table. it's inexcusable, sean. it's a tragedy of unbelieve abl proportions. it should cause every american watching this broadcast to say, would my country leave sne what is it with the state department and this president that we always pick the wrong side on
