just get on there and do whatever you do on gretawire. good night from washington. o'reilly factor is on. tonight. >> taking risk on behalf of our ideals. >> world leaders in south africa memorializing the late nelson mandela. among it very controversial stuff going on. this man is exploiting the situation. we have a special report. >> this isn't some damn game. >> americans still think republicans are doing a worse job than democrats in congress. how is that possible in the face of the obamacare debacle? congresswoman michele bachmann will be here. also tonight some atheists now blatantly attacking christianity. what should people of faith
5:01 pm
think? charles krauthammer on that. >> caution, you are about to enter the no spin zone. the factor begins right now. ♪ ♪ hi i'm bill o'reilly. thanks for watching us tonight. the exploitation of it. that's this evening's talking points memo. nearly a one dread world leaders are in south africa memorializing the late nelson mandela. symbol of freedom all over the world. up until 1994, south africa was won by racist government enforcing laws keeping black people down that was called apartheid. nelson mandela led the fight for civil rights in his country and the white apartheid government put him in prison for 27 years. think about that 27 years.
5:02 pm
for trying to get equality for all south african-americans of the after the apartheid government collapsed mr. mandela rose up to lead his nation. with the legacy of oppression it was a very difficult task. i was in south africa in 1995 when that country won the world rugby championship. it was a great moment. mr. mandela was in the stands. and south africans were deliriously happy. i enjoy my time in that country, but the poverty was unbelievable and remains so today. now, as a young man, nelson mandela had marxist leans and dealt closely with communists. check out a recent article in magazine new want specifics on that. anyone who knows anything about south africa understands mr. mandela's philosophy. enter the far left msnbc network and al sharpton. as we have demonstrated in the past, sharpton is a dishonest purveyor of information. a man who could not care less about reporting what's true. last friday, using nelson mandela as cover, sharpton

attacked me. >> he said about nelson mandela last night on fox: >> 9 a years old. nelson mandela, i spent some time in south africa, he was a communist, this man. >> yeah. >> he was a communist. all right. >> that. >> >> but don't you wonder where in south africa? it wasn't like he was hanging out in soweto that bill o'reilly i'm quite certain. >> well, here i am in soweto where i did spend some time. that woman a a a former spokesperson for the dnc obviously made a mistake. i'm expecting a letter of apology from ms. finney by tomorrow. if she is honest she'll send it over. if she is like sharpton and not honest she will not and i will let you know what happens tomorrow evening. as for sharpton, is he a flat out deceiver. here is what i actually said about mr. mandela. >> 9 a years old.
5:04 pm
nelson mandela -- i have spent some time in south africa, he was a communist, this man. >> yeah. >> he was a communist. all right? but he was a great man. what he did for his people was stunning. the sacrifices that he made. he could have repudiated and got out of that prison. he wouldn't do it. >> so you can see that sharpton caught out all of the context as he has done many times before. now, any other commentator on national tv would have been fired for doing that but, msnbc seems to be afraid of sharpton. the thing is, sharpton uses the occasion of nelson mandela's death to dishonestly attack people he doesn't like. they don't come lower. now, president obama made a good speech today. but he, like many other americans, was a bit confused that cuban human rights violatorrer raoul castro actually spoke at the memorial. >> there are too many people who happily embrace madiba's
5:05 pm
legacy of reconciliation but passionately resist even modest reform that would challenge poverty and growing inequality. there are too many leaders who claim solidarity with madiba's struggle for freedom but do not tolerate dissent from their own people. >> madiba the tribal name of nelson mandela. president obama is correct phonies all over the place saying one thing but actually oppressing the oppressed by their own actions. raoul castro certainly an example of that. there comes a point when good people have to honor other good people even when they disagree with their philosophy. that was the point i was making about nelson mandela. there also comes a point when good people have to walk away from bad people who exploit situations for their own gain. i think you though all know ohio am talking about. joining us from miami. reverend, the senior pastor
5:06 pm
of the ebenezer baptist church in atlanta. mic's church. and from washington bishop harry jackson senior pastor of hope christian church in maryland. bishop, what are your thoughts on all of. this mandela really had a transformation while he was in prison. when he left robin island he said i leave behind anger, guilt, and revenge. his life is a story of forgiveness. i believe that part of the story is true. he should be honored as transformational leader who was transformed. who brought transformation and healed the nation do you think i should forgive sharpton for what he is doing? i do believe that sharpton's motives sometimes are questionable. but, he yes. i think that ultimately point out the truth. he has seen things through a grid of unforgiveness, perhaps. i think that's a shame. >> allht.
5:07 pm
reverend, how do you see the day in specific perspective. >> in thank you so much, bill. good to be here with you today. it was a great celebration. of a great man whose celebration was one born of suffering and deep sorrow. i'm inspired by the legacy of nelson mandela. i think the way he pitched a tent large enough to bring together people who were not normally in the same room is indicative of how we ought tone gauge one another on these issues i think that the question for nelson mandela and those who work with him is how do we set our people free? that was his question it was a question that was wrestled and engaged in the united states of america within the context of a cold war. i think, quite honestly, in many ways we were so obsessed with these kind of
5:08 pm
ideological debates we did not deal with human liberty and freedom. if his struggle demonstrates anything it demonstrates when we are obsessed with these kind of ideological questions and ideology has its role, sometimes we end up on the wrong side of history. >> you know, i agree with that? >> for too long. >> i'm much more disturbed by how long we took to align ourselves with nelson mandela and those who struggled with him than i am by whoever. >> it was the communist beef, reverend, that held a lot of people back in america. and they shouldn't have -- it shouldn't have. but what i picked up from soweto, it was interesting that woman, o'reilly never go to soweto. that was exactly the reason i went to south africa. unbelievable spirit. i don't know if you have been over there or not. it's it the poorest place you can imagine. syouee the porta potty

behind me. they don't have plumbing or electricity there. the spirit of these children and the spirit of the people there, it is a dangerous place. i'm not going to sugar coat it. the humanness of it all was just stunning. go ahead, bishop. >> i have taken 2 otrips to south africa. planted five churches there. i have outreached to the poor in south africa. what happened on my first trip in '95, i'm preach ago man is watching me, white man, 50s, he begins to tier up, he cries. after the service he said to me they told me that you people had no spirit. they told me that you weren't really basically saying human. i believe that the spiritual answer, personal transformation is a story of the day, bill. and i think that this is a problem even with america now. sharpton, carry a grudge. they want to keep digging up the past.
5:10 pm
it's time for us to energize our discussion. >> i agree. time for us to really strip it all away and he see the humanness of it it now, the final thing, reverend. i. >> the question -- go ahead. the question of personal transformation is tested by one's commitment to what dr. king called the beloved community. the dutch reform church in south africa was committed to personal salvation as it is often construed by religious folk but it did not play itself out very well in terms it of their theology. their theology embraced the her rhetoric call doctrine of apartheid. >> i want everybody to get across on this day because you know how history is taught in america now, gentlemen, it's not taught. particularly about countries like south africa. nelson mandela could have gotten out of that prison. all he had to do was tell that apartheid government you know what? you are not so bad. i will work with you. i will do. this he wouldn't do it.
5:11 pm
27 years just think about that no matter what else the man did in his whole life. no matter what he believed and didn't believe, in what he accomplished and what he didn't accomplish. just that, that sacrifice for his people, elevate him right up here. gentlemen, thanks very much. we really appreciate it next on the rundown, crowley and colmes will react to the mandela legacy and exploitation of it later, michele bachmann on why americans still see the republican congress in a very negative way. the factor is coming right back.

5:24 pm
responsible. even the liberal media is giving the president a hard time because of the mass chaos surrounding the law. you would think that the republicans would benefit from that. >> people are upset on every level because their lives haven't improved. $3,500 a year in purchasing power lost. sticker shock on obamacare. they are very very unhappy and mad at everybody. again, will 0% of media reporting is anti-conservative. all makes sense. again it's our present reality. that's why republicans have to have a message that's counter to that our message needs to be we're here to help people. we don't want to hurt people. and this is how we're going to help people. >> i don't know how you are going to help people. i don't know what you want. >> okay. let me give you. >> no, no. before do you that and i will allow you to do it there is no central force in the g.o.p. to get a message out. democratic party has barack obama.

5:26 pm
you could afford 10 grand check. >> we spend minimum of that already. >> going to double spend it. >> no we won't not at all. >> what do you cut back what? >> it goes to public employee unions. i would rather see this money go to kids. we want safer streets. we report about this terrible knockout game. those people need to go to jail. >> wait, wait, wait. the public school system you would take money away from it so you giving 10 k to every patient to educated their child, knock well a child doesn't have to pay for public school, property taxes pay for that so they put the 10 k in their pockets and send them to it public school? >> money comes from federal sources, state sources and local sources. what i'm saying is that that money has to be reallocated. rather than allocating it directly to the public employee union. allocate it directly to the parents. >> too confusing for me. you are making my point for me. >> simple. >> you may have a good point. you may, i don't know. i would have to study it, okay? first i'm hearing of it is tonight. but these things aren't going to turn the republican

ago not stick, gnostic. that means they don't know. 40% are not affiliated with any religion. times square obnoxious sign put up by eighth its group that says no needs christ during christmas? nobody. blatantly offensive, totally unnecessary. joining us from washington fox news analyst charles krauthammer? the rise of people who are not religious in america, does that signify anything? does it mean anything? >> i didn't see much of a rise in those graphs. there was a tiny increase in the numbers of those who are unaffiliated. i think that's more of a statement about the church, perhaps, than it is about atheism. i saw the lines about atheism and ago no, gnosticism, united states by far is the most religious country in the west. it's not each close. i don't see any eruption of atheism upon the land. >> but they are very aggressive, vocal, well-funded and they target,

and who destroy a logging cabs. you have got the animal rights people who break nih and let the monkeys go. you have got the vegans, the extreme ones who will undress in the middle of a city square. so, you have got people in a lot of minority elements who want to get attention or who want to be offensive. and you have got them among the atheists. i would bet the vast majority of atheists are silent atheists who move among us and don't announce it and don't wear it on their sleeve. simply have their own world view and leave other people alone. >> i would agree with that i mean, i'm interested about 'such a small number but they have such an inordinate amount of -- i don't know, the aclu and people like this, i mean, they take up their causes all the time. that leaves me to discuss the secularism. we see in washington state and colorado legalize marijuana. gay marriage pretty much they won that battle. i mean, perceptions have

unfettered, abortion up until the later stages, the progressives have the media in their pocket, so they're powerful. >> i don't know where to start on this, so much air, so little time. look, i would start with the proposition that somehow, you know, all of these things, the permissiveness is radically increasing. i would say one of the remarkable phenomenons in the last 30 years is the increase in opposition to abortion among the young people. you would have thought together with other trips, yes, the permissiveness on drugs and sex and all that, that you would get an increase in the lassitude about abortion, but it is in the reverse. i think there is more relationship between the new science, the image, the
5:53 pm
sonograms, the idea of the fetus as a real person, the resistance. i think the trends are going in both directions. i wouldn't worry terribly much about the fate of the republic. >> all right, charles, as always we appreciate it. check out charles' book, a huge best seller. factor tip of the day that will make your christmas much better. the tip, moments away.
