tv The Five FOX News December 12, 2013 2:00pm-3:01pm PST
2:00 pm
to say chaching. look at this and say what was i thinking? they're on fire. we're going to ex that tonight at 8:00 on fbn. i'm andrea. it's 5:00 in new york city and this is the five. obama care doesn't have much appeal to the american people. the white house is trying to change that by bringing in the so called sexiest man a live. no not greg gutfeld. >> they went to adam levine to kick off you the social media campaign along with other stars to get people to enroll. the effort is called tell a friend get covered. other celebrities include fireman dresher and pit bull.
2:01 pm
here's a video put out for today's launch. >> if you need that new health care? sign up cause it's hot. i'm commander-in-chief plus i've got this health care which has got it going on. >> oh wow. i hadn't seen that. greg, when you hear from adam levine who i know you have great tremendous respect for -- >> absolutely. >> if he were to tell you to go buy health insurance, would you run or sprint? >> that's a tough choice. here's a fun adam levine fact people don't know. only dogs and lonely women respond to the high pitch squeal of his annoying voice. i'm actually happy he's involved in this with the government that means less time to put out crappy music. i want to put out a serious point act jerks.
2:02 pm
stop calling themselves artists and start calling themselves propaganda. they're socialist. they're entertainers. they're tonguing power, they're embarrassing. >> they're kissing power. >> i'm glad you edited me. >> it's not a bad idea for young people to get health insurance. that's a lofty goal some conservatives say there's better ways to do that. do you think president barack obama has any chance of changing the law of economics by using celebrities to pitch health care? >> no, i don't. young people love music but love money even more. they're not stupid. these videos i think expect young kids to follow along. i don't think they will. they're smart enough to know paying the penalty is less than paying the premium. it was the same issue in
2:03 pm
massachuset massachusetts. what i don't understand is why adam levine wants to get involved when there's so many problems. i guarantee this day and age if you ask adam about obama care, he probably knows nothing about it. >> eric, they're never going to have to worry about it. adam levine will always have enough money to take care of himself. that doesn't mean he doesn't have empathy for others that don't have it. i guess i see where he's trying to help here. the point about the penalty, you've been talking about this a few months. you think the penalty being so long this is actually going to be an issue forced to the table come january. >> i think it has to be. the numbers 365,000 enrolled -- i'm wrong. 365,000 have chosen the plan. we don't know if any have paid for insurance yet or are insured january 1st. to the point of the fees, tax.
2:04 pm
it has to go. number one, it has to go up. the irs has to find out a way to collect the tachlkx. if you are owed a refund, they'll take it off your refund. it's $95 or an adjusted for your income. that's a joke. nobody is going to overpay your taxes. can i point out lady gaga pitched this thing. it goes on and on. if the product were good -- sign up like it's hot? you wouldn't have to do these things. where's the wrap video for iphone? they're not doing it. this is a product that sells itself. obama care needs a lot of help. >> let me ask you. do you think democrats in general or white house in particular puts too much faith in hollywood to turn the tide on
2:05 pm
a policy matter rather than the -- i understand bringing them out for the presidential debate to get people excited. >> i don't know why he's the sexiest man a live. use anything you can use. i don't understand why -- then again we had a high rated show yesterday on a lot less serious than this. here's the good news. 71 million americans are benefitting right now as we sit here from obama care. prescription drugs, kids who get it on their parent's insurance policy -- >> nobody has it. it doesn't kick in until next year. >> it does right now. >> in the anticipation of obama
2:06 pm
care insurance companies p preemted -- >> you were complaining because they put neat stuff up front and hard stuff was after. >> two things they announced today. medicare cuts they put through the bill will be a surprise to seniors. second thing they had to extend the pre-existing condition program. they've had 365,000 people select a plan. they don't have enough people to cover the pre-existing conditions that were supposed to be funded through the bill. they've had to extend that. greg, i want to get your take on this. i mentioned it yesterday. this oregon they spent over $300 million to sign up 44 peep. >> this is almost an achievement. this is like the apollo moon shot of incompetence. $300 million to sign up 44. that's government math. that means you can never spend enough for nothing. the only way you can spend more
2:07 pm
money on left if you air dropped all that money on a group of meth heads. i don't know how you can do this. it's weird. >> this is the defense department. >> i used to think president barack obama spreads the weather. he actually burns it. maybe this was his idea of green energy, burning american money. >> are you this articulate act the defense department budget? >> i do believe there's overspending in the defense department, but it works ch it actually works. >> the wall street journal had a great editorial that highlighted important statistics right. 4.5 million people have lost their health insurance due to obama care. if you believe the inflated numbers of hhs, 1.2 million have signed up. 800,000 and 365,000 respectively with medicaid enrollees involved. if that's the rate increasing, i encourage republicans to put
2:08 pm
pressure on kathleen sebelius to give that number. i believe as of january 1st, more will have lost their health insurance than those that gained. could you imagine if the outcome of the bill that was supposed to get everybody covered right -- adam levine only knows how to get models into bed. he's not going to get them into the exchanges. does the opposite of what intended. >> 8.4 million have lost their insurance. >> we don't know how many people. >> the reason we know now because there's a certain amount of time insurance companies have to tell people if they're going to throw them off january 1st, they've got to let them know by november date or whatever. here's the problem o. clearly there won't be as many signed up for obama care.
2:09 pm
nowhere near the the number. a year from now when the employee mandate kicks in, around november, they sneakingly push it back to the election. we're going to find out how many employees are going to throw their people off. that could be 80 or 90 million or more. >> let's wager how many will not have insurance next year. >> more than don't have it now. >> sure. >> what do you mean sure -- >> my point is it's a mandate. fewer people -- >> i'm going to buy meremergenc care stock. they're going to be lining up. >> bob, that's a huge issue you that didn't get a lot of coverage this week. insurance companies are jacking up cost of prescription drugs so people who thought they could get coverage for pre-existing conditions are paying more for drugs. it's a way for insurance companies to not cover high risk problem. obama is going along with it
2:10 pm
because he doesn't want the enrollment to go down further. >> can i jump in here quickly? our producer just told us i have that the lie of the year just released for 2013. do you know what it is? if you want to keep your doctor, keep your plan, you can keep your doctor and your plan. lie of the year. timing is everything. >> we could have played a sound bite but we don't have time from the president's former advisor and consultant. he said president barack obama has been honest about obama care, should not have spoke in absolute. can you have it both ways? >> bob often has it both ways. this is a great opportunity for the republican party. they've already got a platform. it should be let's start over and pretend this never happened.
2:11 pm
america would be happy to pretend this is bobby in dallas. all of a sudden america wakes up and bobby is in the shower going did that really happen in obama care? it didn't really happen. or it's like a giant etch sketch. just shake it and start over. that should be the republican platform. >> can i shoot you is ier about you that you asked was a shot, i thought it was a compliment. >> i don't remember. special programming photo, set your dvr for next wednesday. charles krauthammer will join us live on the set the entire hour. that's must see tv. bob can't wait. coming up, the golden globe nominations are in. eric has the list. one of the hottest shows got snubbed. we'll tell you which one when we
2:16 pm
welcome back everybody. we've got three hot topics for you. nine minutes of cool commentary. first up golden globe nominations out today. pick your movie, act, to tv series, don't pick your nose. i'll start with what didn't make it. best show on tv "homeland "nothing, notta, zilch. surprising. >> i thought a big surprise was oprah winfrey the butler wasn't nominated. i thought it was a snub. it was a weird list of no, ma m
2:17 pm
nomination. i think she's one of the best actresses. ever since the non net work shows and it's kinda started with the shield, nip tuck and fx, it moved off of net work tv. it's going to be hard with net work tv to keep up with what they want and a lot of dough. >> they sell those for a ton of bucks. >> what about your mr. beckel? your series, something you like? >> what do we care a bunch of foreigners vote on? who cares. secondly i went down through this list and not one of them except dana turned me on to "house of cards ". kevin whatever his name is. he put his head in that --
2:18 pm
>> way to ruin the movie bob. >> honest to god, except for the babe that did the -- the good looking woman prostitute that walked down the stairs -- what was that movie? >> pretty woman? >> yeah. except for her, he's spacey. i don't know these people. >> you watch "house of cards "? >> i love it. even if you worked in washington, a lot of people said they don't want to watch because it's not realistic. it's realistic enough. it's great drama. i made bob watch it, and he loved it. i'll tell you the show that didn't get a nomination and should have, it's "justified ". it starts next week or in january. it's great. go back to the beginning and see timothy. >> that's part of the problem. if you don't go top beginning you're lost jumping in the
2:19 pm
second or third season. >> i was disappointed. i watched happy land, barney days. none of those are on the list. i'm with bob though, there are too many a ward shows. they're there to remind the rich and famous that they're still special. the job should be enough, don't you think? >> isn't there something called people's choice? >> yes, there is. >> i'll be waiting for that. what about the show that was on -- it didn't get nominations? >> also portlandia. i don't think it got anything. >> you know what's strange, the wolf of wall street doesn't come out another ten days. there's a bunch of movies that are out. "her "got nominated and "american hustle ". nobody has seen it. >> don't they dump them all in december so they don't compete? >> movies are bad.
2:20 pm
>> next up hollywood heart throb george clooney releasing this in support of a group that want democracy of free trade for the former republic. >> let me say this to all of you in the square or around ukraine, when you look to west, know we are looking back at you with great admiration. we wish you a peace and safe mission, we wish you the government you want and the strength to carry on. good luck. >> all right bob, jump on that. >> i congratulate him for doing this. why our government isn't more publicly doing this. the soviet union has been suppressing ukraine early. all their oil and gas lines go through there. people there want to get close to the west. they want do a trade deal.
2:21 pm
that punk that runs the country, i shouldn't say be assassinated but -- you both mentioned this yesterday. this would be a great opportunity -- where's the u.s. helping the ukraine? >> i'm dismayed by it. i loved president bush's freedom agenda. it's one of the things that attracted me to work in administration. it's not that i don't think president barack obama would like to see democracy flourish, but they've got themselves painted in the corner they need putin for so many things. they have to use this language like we're very concerned and we hope they respect views. perhaps maybe there's something going on behind the scenes. i doubt it. you have the humanitarian disaster in syria. i don't see how the the white house doesn't get tagged with responsibility for foreign
2:22 pm
disasters? >> where is our clooney? that's obama. putin cleaned his clock all year, just embarrassed him. i mean he embarrassed him with syria and snowden. this is the perfect opportunity to do the right thing. >> maybe if the muslim brother hood or al qaeda joined the democracy forces, maybe the president would pick up you and his interest would be to get involved. there's no foreign policy from this administration. when we talked about how putin was the crook of everything and wants to build the pipeline up to control the oil, that's why this type of thing matters. again, there probably is something happening. >> we've got to get this in. this is the dessert. finally, the personal favorite. our guest vice president at it again. before we roll this, remember the super bowl will be played
2:23 pm
february 2nd, at met life stadium, and met life stadium is most definitely in new jersey. >> what part of new jersey you from? >> right by giants stadium mr. vice president. home of the super bowl. >> all right. maybe not this year. we're going to talk about that. >> any self respected football fan knows, it doesn't matter what teams are in the super bowl it's going to be played there. >> he's the gift that keeps on giving. the guy obviously thought he was talking about the giants game. i don't want to know why the hell the super bowl got to be played there? >> didn't he pick the ravens last year? >> i don't think he's known to know football. i'm cutting joe a little slack.
2:24 pm
>> whatever joe says interestingly enough sounds great. if he was your doctor and told you you had three weeks to live. he'd say have a great day and walk out. you got brain cancer. got to go. take care. you'd go okay. see you later. >> i can't think of anything. i had a good point before. >> say your good point. >> i'll make a vice president biden point. on the ukrainian piece. if the united states don't want to get directly involved with putin, they could get behind scenes and pull together european leaders to push back against putin. we're not everyone doing that. >> great point. >> it was such a great point at the time. it wasn't after the super bowl thing. >> we've got to go. we're done. >> we're done. let's get back to the golden goose. the whacky sign language guy
2:25 pm
2:29 pm
2:30 pm
described schizophrenic is to the leader of the free world. it is priceless. it could have been poison. the guy was hallucinating, hearing voices and seeing angels. there were a hundred world leaders plus this mentally unstable guy. no wonder he fit in. how does this happen? no matter the selfies and booing. seriously south africa, get yourself together. lastly, i know you're all curious as to what the interpreter was actually signing up there. i'll tell you. it was thank god south africa doesn't have obama care. i had to work that in, bob. >> i know you did. every segment we work that in. >> exactly. bob, funny story but scary don't you think? >> it's scary. first of all who hires the guy? >> the company disappeared.
2:31 pm
>> most presidents will check this stuff. they say who is this guy? secret service says who is this guy? i looked at head of denmark or whoever she was, i would have gotten a selfie with her too. >> instead you took one with me yesterday. >> i did. that was good. >> how do you think this could have happened? do you have any theories? >> did the secret service not vet him? if i were the president i'd be furious. this happened before at the white house. remember the reality stars that crashed the party at the white house? you think they would have learned their lesson. he was so close to the president. nobody did their job to find out who he was. okay he's a schizophrenic, manic, dangerous. besides that, he doesn't even know sign language. how did he get in to begin with? it would be like hiring me to do
2:32 pm
it? does anybody know what he's saying? >> no. that's the problem i guess. >> do we have that with kimmell? he interprets it. >> kimmell does a fine job at this. show it. >> hello. welcome so far. well, cigarettes join bringing in different to you. um, a circle. i would like to pray this offering. basically this is fun. all of these balls to prove this is good. i'm sorry. >> does the signer know sign language at all? >> no, not at all. >> he could have been the sign language star for the white
2:33 pm
house. >> yeah, that's -- >> your point is well taken. where is heck is the advanced team? that's what they're supposed to do. make sure anyone in close proximity of the president has been vetted. i guess it has to go further than making sure he can sign. did anyone frisk him? >> they can't find the company that they hired him from. they have no idea where he is. >> to say this, when you go to countries like this, they have a difficult time getting this. the host country says we've got that taken care of. they have huge arguments. the way you describe this guy, wouldn't you say he was psychotic? >> he was a maniac. >> that's what i was when i was drinking. >> i bet you made more sense than he did. south africa lad to pull this together quickly. they should have had funeral
2:34 pm
plans beforehand. they don't have the means to do that, i get that. they don't have the official interpreter? it also took so long for people to realize -- finally it was somebody in south africa who is deaf said this doesn't make any sense and blew the lid on it. unfortunately this is what you remember about the funeral. the best thing is not watch that but go back and read the speech. >> you were going to throw to something cute. >> want to see somebody that really knows sign language? check out 5-year-old claire that signed for her family during the christmas concert she was in. >> that's how you do it.
2:35 pm
she's adorable. she is able to speak and hear. her parents are hearing impaired. the mother post had the video. >> but the president if you were going to visit, she would be escorted out and couldn't get close to the president. >> why? >> she would try to kiss his hand. >> bringing back to another story. a rich teen who killed four people driving drunk gets probation instead of prison after lawyers use the a affluennza defense? you'll hear from one of them next.
2:40 pm
did a judge let a 16-year-old that killed four people walk free because his parents are rich? than couch was you sentenced to a decade of probation. june 16th he and buddies got drunk and got behind a wheel. they killed four people and injured nine. the defense used the psychologist who diagnosed the teen with after aft-- with affluenza. here's a husband who lost his wife that night. >> i'm back to week one. we have accomplished nothing here. my healing process is out the window. the primary message has to absolutely be that money and privilege can't buy justice in
2:41 pm
this country. it's not okay to drink and drive, kill four people and severely wound others and not have consequences. >> i don't know if we can convey how outrageous it was in words. >> he was on valium, four people with him. four dead and others injured. is this the worst failing of a judge you've ever seen? >> it's bizarre. in a weird way as parents you want to provide for your kid every advantage they can have in life. now they're saying that could be responsible for a crime. you allowing the certain privileges to take part in this guy's life. actually turns him into a murderer. the kid gets off in a sense blaming the parents. why aren't the parents going to jail? if there was a punishment to the parent, they wouldn't have pulled this defense.
2:42 pm
it was a brilliant move to get the kid off. it's disgusting. >> the parents will pay $450,000 a year for him to go to treatment in new port beach, california which doesn't sound like a hard time. >> they never have to deal with him again? he'll go away. they can move on with their lives while the victim's families are heartbroken. going back to square one of the grieving process is horrific. the question i have is i wonder if the psychiatrist got paid and how much he got paid to come up with that? >> if the parents came up with the idea, parents should be on trial, right? >> the attorneys came up with it, right? they paid the expert witnesses. >> the psychiatrist comes up with the made up diagnosis. >> the crazy definition. the judicial page for this judge doesn't have a picture. just has liberty which seems
2:43 pm
ironic. >> completely ironic. i don't know how this works but i guess the sentence of this 16-year-old kid, ethan couch. i'm assuming it's ridiculous and it will come back that the sentence was too lean yens. if you tell the 16-year-old it's okay to get drunk and mow people down if you're rich, there's going to be a lot more ethan couches running around and people slaughtered in the streets. >> how can the victims not appeal the decision by the judge? i can't recall a case where you take four people's lives and it's a slap on the wrist and he walks away.
2:44 pm
>> first of all this jerk judge ought to be impeached and thrown in jail. there's no such thing as affuenza. if that were a black kid, do you think he would get this? of course not. i can't believe it. the message here for the rest of these kids who listen to this thing. this punk is running around and driving again. he didn't seem to care after killing those four people. >> he said i'm out of here. >> he said stick around. he said i'm out of here. >> what message does that send to the victims they can't get justice. the one place they're supposed to be able to not have corruption is the courtroom. >> too bad they don't have hanging still in texas. >> i'm going to push back on one thing. the part about the race. if it was a wealthy black kid,
2:45 pm
they may come up with the same defense. >> there's corruption in courts in all city. in texas, new jersey, in all areas. there's corruption in atlantic city. people say that too. the inverse of your point. we've got to go. >> there should be hanging. the latest development of the woosfication in sports. what's next, pillow fights? that's next.
2:49 pm
2:50 pm
>> it's absolutely insane. it's the wussification. i played short stop. a guy sliding into second base high and hard. i've got cleat marks in my leg still to this day. what's the difference between that and somebody getting to home plate? it's absolutely ridiculous. you can't throw to the guy anymore? >> this is just can -- eric is exactly right. i can't believe. this is the whole idea. look where catchers are standing. the whole idea is block the base. of course you've got to run over him. >> pete rose said look at the catcher. catchers wear more armor than humvees in afghanistan. some say frkszosse was never th
2:51 pm
same after that. maybe they could tap them on the shoulder before they come through like hello coming through. maybe underpitch. i think we're a safety obsess nation. no more fun or actual sports. i've never played the guam. it seems ridiculous. >> don't hurt anyone. >> i was really worried. we have a clip of when greg was running to home plate and he ran head on into the mouth. we don't have that. it's a great clip. it was something i thought of immediately when i heard about this story. i do think the increase of injury is a real problem. >> i didn't run into the mouse. i accidentally fell on it. that's what i told the emergency room physician. >> i think this is great. i think this is great final will
2:52 pm
-- finally. it's too much excitement, three hours. let's take something out of it that breaks up the monotony. >> did you see the westminster dog show where the woman was running around and fell on him. it was a big heavy lady. they trot them around. >> good story, bob. >> it was pretty funny. i thought it was funny. i think about greg falling on a mouse. okay. one more thing is up next. was that in a movie?
2:56 pm
it's time now for one more thing. i forgot i was discharged. instead i'm going to start with andrea. >> what's the the best gift you can give for christmas? >> how about the gift of life. a 68-year-old mother of two need aid kidney transplant. got on the list in california, thought it would take eight to ten years. she realized she could join a website called matching
2:57 pm
impaired. they do the closed captioning for all wonderful shows. i like to fool with them a little bit. last night on red eye, tom came up with the idea we say things that come out of closed captions person's might unintentionally like this for example where we had him say i am the closed caption guy and i hate that broad. we say that and the guy has to choice but to actually write it. it looks like he has an example.
2:58 pm
let's do this for the five. i'm going to say closed caption guy thinks dana isn't as cute as greg and actually pretty annoying. take a screen shot of that and send it to the five. >> i love that idea. >> it's a great idea. >> closed caption guy thinks eric's turn is next. >> white house.gov released this. he filled in his own thing. fill in your own thing. here's what we'll do here. get covered because. >> i'll read some of these. i want to hear what you have to say. hit me up on facebook and twitter. let me know what you think. >> bob closed caption guy says you're next. >> i figured that out. first of all i want to c congratulate kelly. she is fairly conservative.
2:59 pm
congratulations. >> that was not. that was the article. not on either side of the political spectrum. >> way to read it. >> like her. >> it was a great piece. she deserves it. >> let's go to more important -- not more important but -- don't ask me to do this promo stuff again man. all right. i'm doing it. there's a 16-year-old kids from quebec that's in canada which is in new jersew jersey. listen to this guy do the elvis impersonation. >> have a blue christmas without you. i'll be so blue just thinking of you. >> dana's turn right? >> that's what the closed caption guy says next.
3:00 pm
>> if you love christmas, record for the biggest 39,000 cubic foot gingerbread house. set your dvr so you never miss an episode of five. we're back here tomorrow. special report is next. this is a fox news alert. i'm bret baier in washington. the house started to vote on the budget deal expected to pass. you look live at the magic number they need. 217 votes. the voting has just started. we expect this to take 20 to 25 minutes. you'll see that live here. we'll go to carl cameron on the days back and forth with the budget. another big story tonight. there are conflicting signals tonight from the white house on when some of the obama care care deadlines are set. who's actually calling the shots. what any of this is going to look like
