8:00 pm
someone who won't shut up. >> i don't mind it. >> that is all the time we v it's a fun panel. thank you for being with us have a great weekend we'll see you back here on monday.
8:01 pm
>> the man behind a controversial atheist bill board will be here tonight. hide the kids. >> caution you're about to enter the no spin zone the factor begins right now. >> hi. thanks for joining us tonight. let's get right to our top story. in fighting in g.o.p. house overingly approved a bipartisan two, year spending plan in hopes of averting another government shut down. 94 congress people voted against it. >> i just think they've lost credibility. they pushed us into this fight to defund obamacare and shut down the government.
8:02 pm
i'm as conservative as anyone around this place. and all of the things we've done over three years i've been speaker have not violated any principles not one. >> joining me now from washington from national news director for tea party news network. scotty starting with you off the top. john boehner says he's conservative as anyone. would you agree >> congratulations john mcboehner. you're going to be claimed john mccain of the house. and i wear his scorn like a badge of honor. and that band aid john mcboehner just ripped
8:03 pm
it off. >> some of the push back is that paul ryan budget has a lot of spending increases with some tax issues, down the road. that may, or may not show up. your thoughts? >> there is perception is reality. the perception is that this is a huge budget deal. it's not. the tea party and some without the tea party think they want to rule in a government that they wish they had. there must be compromise two things this budget does. one, it creates regular order, a return to the house having control over the power of the purse. it's their constitutional responsibility. >> brad, the power of the purse is in the house. and isn't there
8:04 pm
a case to be made if it weren't for tea party they won't have the power of the purse right now? >> they helped shut down the government. we've got to keep our eyes on the prize. let's figure out 2014 is where we're going the fact is that obamacare is imploding. why are we not united? get this behind us. have surety in the marketplace. >> this, the push back between a lot of people were moderate saying we need to win first. so keep the house, you need to win the senate. then work on the white house. winning first seems to be important. do you disagree? >> weather not that i disagree. do you hear what brad said? he said he blames tea part yes on the government on the same time we need to be united against obamacare. reason shut down the government the conservatives said obamacare was
8:05 pm
going to be a disaster as it was and obama shut down the government. the tea party were the ones sitting there saying this is going to sit here and going to blow up as it s now, saying wait a minute. we need to unite behind obamacare disaster. but that is not what john boehner said. he threw down the gauntlet, and tried to demonize it. that is where they're wrong. i think john boehner if he wanted to unite parties why you would reopen this wound that the democrats wanted him to do? he played right into the hands of democrats and thank you, john boehner. >> no. he didn't. you have to be strategic in this town. you don't have to vote to do what you seek to do. paul ryan is a states person realizing you've got to reach across the aisle.
8:06 pm
we're going to get everything we want? no. >> we're getting 10% republicans possibly. only good thick thing republicans can claim that they cut government sequester. 90%, democrats 90% happy with this bill. >> go ahead, brad >> it tells me when both parties are ticked off at the accomplishments made, they've probably got a good compromise we should be thinking about 2014 let's get the senate back and put the president. you think to think obama doesn't exist, but he does. >> i think, i do this, this is what you have to do. there is a pendulum. it swings back and forth. it seems it's swinging away from the tea party because of the shut down. they're getting the blame.
8:07 pm
>> that is because establishment governments did not like good things coming out. ratings were high when congress and white house were low. majority of americans would never take a step outside and come out real america like nashville, tennessee he would say if they do not agree with what washington, d.c. is doing... >> they're trying to change that. >> but this is washington, d.c. this compromise is saying this can be better off ten years down the road than today. let's remember, ten years ago we're coming out of the clinton era. projecting not only 0 deficit, but $three dwrinl surplus. >> i have something might unite far right of the party. listen to the former speaker of the house. >> you told your members embrace the suck. that is a quote, yes.
8:08 pm
yes. >> where did you get that? >> i think it really captured the moment. don't you think? >> first of all i think it's hilarious. there are words, i agree, nancy pelosi is not the -- remember her words about obamacare. pass the bill to find out what is in it. >> i knew we can find something we all agree on. we will leave it there. thank you very much. next on the run down, president obama wins lie of the year award we'll tell you about that. later should usa give edward snowden amnesty if he promises to stop leaking top secret information?
8:09 pm
8:10 pm
8:11 pm
8:12 pm
>> if you liked that plan we said is that you can keep it. if it hasn't changed since the law passed. >> see the last part? if it hasn't changed? ginning me now from nashville, chip saltsman. chris, starting with you, my man the last part he said 25, 24
8:13 pm
times, when he changed it november 4th saying this is what we really said they hadn't really before. . >> i mean, this >> president, i think, misspoke. and they weren't as clear as they needed to be. >> chris? chris? i'm going to get to this in joechlt just a moment. >> that is not misspeaking. >> well, no. i'm talking about listen. i understand you want to call it a lie. i'm going to say, i didn't. polit fact did. >> i understand that. i'm not going kault president a liar. i'm going to say he made a mistake and had to own up to it. he's paying for it. when you get
8:14 pm
hit in polls he's going to have a long road back. the focus should be trying to fix things. trying to make sure that things are getting better not kind of going back and relittle investigating what he should have said and been doing. in terms of being clear to the american people. >> one of the big problems is that this is going on. you can keep the plan, period. prior to his reelection campaign. >> there is no question he was using this to sell the plan. the bigger question is that you can try to say maybe in the very beginning he didn't know that they're going lose homes but at some point, he did. and chris gets the gold star for trying to defend this, but this is a lie. and polit fact had it right this, may be one of the best all time. >> chris, one of the best all time? >> thinking there is another one coming to find.
8:15 pm
>> i did not have sex with that woman. that is pretty big. >> i think politicians have made mistakes in terms of what they said, president bush said mission accomplished. and we know that wasn't the case. i mean listen. presidents misspeak, and make misstatements and when they're in the as clear as they need to be there is a political consequence to be paid. that is what's happening now. >> fair enough, fair enough. it's one thing to say you can keep your plan, period. it's where he said what we said in the past we vit on tape 25 times, then, trying to walk that back. video. we'll call it up. >> this is not business once or twice we've heard this before. what did the president know? when did he know it?
8:16 pm
when did he know it? >> the ones that weren't named lie of the year. >> good company. this is reality we now live in. if you go make certain statements especially if you're an elected public figure there is going to be conskweengss to be paid when not as clear as you need to be. in this case he owned up to it. any time interest there is a mistake, he says someone else's fault. >> that is not true. he made it
8:17 pm
clear he regretted what he said. >> if you can look, he never said i'm sorry to the american people, because that is what he did. >> he said i regret for not being clear. >> did he tell people what he said was wrong? no. he tries to mince words and say this is what we neent say he said it over and over again. he lied about it. and that is 100% right. when did he know? maybe two years, we keep hearing the president say i didn't know. i heard about it. i read it in newspaper. when he read about it
8:18 pm
in newspaper and on fox. what happens, i think in certain administrations is staffed. want to protect the man so well. in terms of the web site. that is bigger issue in that i think the president needs to step back and ask why are the people around me not telling me what i need to hear? if i'm saying things to american people it's going to be turned out not as accurate as it needs to be. that is a political problem. >> we're going to leave it there and say thank you very much. white house press corps and an atheist bill board trying to take christ out of christmas we'll talk to one man behind that display, coming up.
8:19 pm
8:20 pm
8:21 pm
8:22 pm
>> joining me now from washington with inside story on ed henry. strikes me that sound byte all access? how about some access, right? >> i think that is the thing. they're saying you guys are demanding so much. what they're talking about is more access to the president, actual news
8:23 pm
events here. and then there will be an official photograph put out. it allows them into that meeting why can't we get admitted in there to take independent photos and write independent stories about what is going on? >> let's get smart policy. but your job there is asking that question you asked in getting that response. then, we can talk about it. let's talk about that. will there be changes? seems like only thing we're getting here are official white house photographer, which, good photographer. >> great photographer. >> let's hear the story. >> right, because if a foreign government was doing this, we'd be calling it pop beganeda.
8:24 pm
there is a push and bell and never going to be perfect. there have been other presidents restricting our access. we're just pushing for more. i think to answer questions there will be changes. and they realize some people think it's a distraction. people are whining. no. this is history. we're trying to get access and redeserve some of that access. the bottom line is that this president talked about openness and transparency. it puts a special burden onon him. >> it also is the debate. when you have independent photographers, some of them are clumsy. >> independent images, might catch a moment administration
8:25 pm
doesn't want to put out there. but if it's only images by a government-paid photographer, you're going to get the president in the moment flattering light possible. and we're not saying they shouldn't do this. put that on instagram and twitter. but there should be independent lenses and notebooks going into there and covering it. >> there are pictures come to mind over last couple years. bin laden kill. the way i understand it it was staged they were waiting to be taken, that one and the other one where president obama standing one foot on his desk and table. pointing it's a very almost like i'm the commander type picture, doesn't, he they seem staged to me.. >> i don't know what i would say is that bin laden photo is that way i understand there was a classified document on the table and that shouldn't be out there. whatever contents were. but
8:26 pm
there have been allegations it was edited out. media organizations have gotten caught changing images and that is wrong. so it just all begs a question. we should have more access to get that lens on history. >> the way it works is that explain. the pool reporting and cameras. what about something like that? with still images >> you have 13 or 14 reporters. this might be a meeting with a
8:27 pm
world leader. more access to news events. other presidents restricted access they've pushed back. >> great stuff. >> plenty more is ahead this evening. would the u.s. make a deal to prevent more embarrassing leaks? and the war on christmas is on full display in times square. we'll talk to one atheist behind this bill board. stay tuned for the reports.
8:28 pm
8:29 pm
8:30 pm
8:31 pm
>> why did he say he was on a business trip in iran? >> he was not a u.s. government employee when he went missing in iran. as there is an ongoing investigation into his disappearance i'm not going to comment on what he may or may not have been doing in iran. i'm not going to fact check on a story we believe was
8:32 pm
irresponsible to publish. we urged outlets not to publish out of concerns for his safety. >> the news agency decided to publish that information yesterday after sitting on it three years. joining me now to react anthony shaver author of the book "the last line". let's talk about what jay carney said. >> he said that he was not working for u.s. government when he got, when he went missing in 2007. that is counter to what the ap reported right? >> that is washington speak for he wasn't an employee but may have been working for us. it's clear he was working under contract of some sort with cia. as a case officer who has done this sort of thing, you don't dispatch u.s. government people into harm's way you try to bind people in placement of access you don't send a former fbi agent with a high profharm's wa
8:33 pm
you cut it, bottom line is that it appears we have some responsibility.. >> i think they knew the details they should have gotten hearsted story. any time you get caught flat flooded you're reacting to this story. they would have been better off putting it out there and saying look. this is the act now. >> colonel, i watch "homeland". it's almost scripted perfectly to the series on television. they shield the president from a lot of the rogue activity going on. is that accurate?
8:34 pm
>> this was a true rogue rags. and we go through six months just to be trained to run these operations. there is reasons why they train us. you have a true rogue operation and the best thing that could have happened is getting it back under control. what you see here is tragic results of bad operations at a time when the president didn't know about this.
8:35 pm
>> i think it's about -- >> there is a common theme going on. let's talk a little bit. ed snowden is in russia now. >> right >> there is rumor there could be potential for amnesty. your thoughts on that one? >> there is rumors. i believe to talk about this amongst folks dealing with snowden. there is 1.5 million documents we don't know what he has they know i think what it is. and i was talking about this issue today. there is a way of doing this that would probably protect those secrets. it does speak volumes if you think about it. >> what is that? >> you have to go through
8:36 pm
everything, regarding what they're about to give him he has to give a debrief of everything he gave. he stole other peoples log ins so he got information from sources he wasn't allowed to have it. unknowns here are so overwhelming now. they're considering bringing it back. >> the chinese and russians have copies of everything. i'm not sure if it's in our best interest to do this. so this is a mixed bag on this. i've had spent time here interviewing ed snowden's father quite a bit. he says just come back. face what is in for you. it would be
8:37 pm
difficult to figure out why he would do that. why woe do it because of the risk of being tried for treason. >> they're saying if we can prove you didn't give us everything regarding what you took with you, that is something they can slam him sdpor something he should be concerned about >> thank you very much, sir >> thank you. >> one man who put up a attack on christmas. the factor will be right back.
8:38 pm
8:39 pm
8:40 pm
8:41 pm
thanks for staying with us. in personal story segment war on christmas on display. last week the group american atheist put up a bill board that says who needs christ during christmas? nobody. that mean spirited message caught the factor's attention we wanted to know why some attack americans of faith. wow. >> dave, wow. how mean can you
8:42 pm
be? we're just christians don't care about jesus. >> woah. >> you're talking to one. >> some do. but christmas is not about jesus. it's about spending time with family. >> you do realize the first part of christmas is christ? >> i understand that the name is that. but i mean valentine's day is named after st. valentine. it's about romance. this is not about christ. >> says who? >> fact. people doevenlt >> people don't care. >> this is your opinion. >> can't be fact. >> many, many christians don't care about christ in christmas? >> some do. many, many don't many pretend they care. they doenl go to church twice a year. it's not a big deal of a year to
8:43 pm
them. >> who trou say what christians should and shouldn't believe in. >> if you don't care about this stuff, don't pretend to care. if you want to sleep in on christmas, sleep in. >> the last part, what do you mean, nobody? >> jesus is dead for a long time, you don't need him. but it's not about that. >> 73% of the country is christian. i would say a lot of people need christ. >> if people want to celebrate with christ that is their choice but christmas is better without christ. that is our point. we're improving by letting people be honest about not caring about this stuff. don't drag your family to church if they don't want to go to church. >> christmas is about kids. do you think this bill board kids
8:44 pm
walking through times square and see that, do you think that is good for kids? >> kids don't care bit they care about presents, spending time with family and friends and coco. it's not about god. >> i will disagree with you. i'm a practicing catholic christian who wants my son to care about those things and i hope he does. >> you can hope that. that should be his choice. there is no such chinning as a catholic child. >> why are you doing it at christmas time? you try to force >> atheists about 2.5% of the american population? right? >> a lot more. >> atheists? >> numbers i'm reading under 3%. unaffiliated may get to 20%. >> it's just -- >> 200 some million americans are christians. >> i don't care if i offend you. sorry. but it's not about
8:45 pm
offense. it's about equality. we're saying you don't have to pretend to be christian if you're not. you can enjoy christmas, do what you like. have fun. >> don't you love america? >> of course. i'm proud to be american. >> america is founded on these beliefs. >> and separation of church and government. >> it's on our occurrency. >> only 10s and 50s because of the cold war. >> officials are sworn in on what? a bible. >> not necessarily. they can affirm. >> on a bible or koran. any of those form of religious symbol. right? >> if they want. it's not required. >> where are you on thanksgiving? where is an american atheist on thanksgiving? >> it's a secular holiday. enjoy it however you want. celebrate however you want. >> this is mean spirit add tack
8:46 pm
on christians. what is the point? we're not attacking christians we're saying that -- >> do you realize some people get inspiration from this? i go to church every day there. i light candles every day. do you know why? it i.like it. >> then go head we're saying to people who don't care about jesus, you don't have to pretend to care. it's okay not to force your family to do it, too. >> i'm for free speech. i'm a big, big defender of the first amendment. why are you sdrou to attack it? for shock value? >> nochlt we're not attacking we're improving telling people you can be honest and celebrate the way you want to instead of society pressures you to. if you don't care about jesus, don't celebrate. >> do i need that bill board? >> it's not for you have. it's for people -- >> as offensive as you think a
8:47 pm
cross is to people, that is offensive to people like me who believe in christ. >> that is fine. like i said i'm not trying to offend you. i don't care if i offend you. it's not about that. >> i brought this for you. >> thank you. i appreciate it. >> merry christmas, dave, >> happy holidays. >> and espn decided to run the ad. and we'd like to thank everyone purchasing items from billoreilly.com christmas store. all profits go to charity. your generosity aloud us to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. if you sign up to be a premium member you can get any one of big, bestsellers for free. lots of great gifts on billoreilly.com. when we come
