welcome to "hannity." while the fate of "duck dynasty" remains up in the while the fate of "duck dynasty" remains up in the air and after a&e's indefinite suspension of phil robertson, one thing is clear, the patriarch of the robertson family is not backing down from his bible-backed position. i'm david webb in tonight for my good friend sean. according to a report in "the daily mail," phil robertson led a bible study group yesterday and during the meeting said, quote, i will not give or back off from my path. phil went on to say again, and i quote, i love all men and women.

i'm a lover of humanity, not a hater. and tonight, we want you to join the conversation. do you think a&e network should reverse its decision about phil? log on to sean's facebook page and let us know what you think. and also, it's time to trend at 10:00. you can sound off on twitter using the hashtag hannity. let's bring in our panel, keri pickett and diana falzone. good evening, here we are, another controversy in america. first, to our entertainment mavenness. entertainment industry, what is that from that point of view? >> from that point of view, nothing is going to happen to "duck dynasty," it is going to continue. and it's going to have the debut of season number five starting on january 15th. and phil robertson is a part of

that season. all these cast members, the family members are saying they will not do the show without phil. that isn't going to happen because of something called an ironclad contract. the show will go on and i believe that phil will also come back for another season. >> this season's already taped. >> this season's already taped. but i'm saying, season six, he'll be back on. >> first amendment's being thrown around, but the first amendment's about protection from government. is this issue really a first amendment issue? or is it more about the right to say what you want regardless of your belief without blowback? >> well, this is what particularly bothers me here. i think you have so many elites out there who have gotten used to over so many decades to see a particular demographic made fun of, you know. we saw it during the "beverly hillbillies," with a lot of like the new york, l.a., boston -- >> go after the turn of the cheek crowd.

>> exactly. and they're okay with that crowd as long as they don't mention jesus. as long as they don't mention religion, as long as they don't mention their views when it comes to, say, homosexuals. don't mention that. as long as we can make fun of you, that's okay. >> so tolerance with a position. bernard, i'll go to you on this. what if -- what if these words had come out of say someone quoting the position on homosexuality? >> when you equate an entire class of people with things like having sex with animals or being drunks or adulterers. >> but you can't get away with that. >> it was a comma after the quote. >> i did not say equate, i said link. which is exactly what he did. he said it morphs from this to that, a linkage, not an equation. that has terrible effect on people. it's demeaning, it's vile, it's disgusting. does he have a right to do that? yes. but it's detrimental to society. i think it's one of the reasons

that gay kids are five times more likely to kill themselves. why there's so many -- gay homeless youths out there. i think we should use this as an opportunity to engage in a real discussion here. the problem i have is not with his christianity at all. let's remember here, the bible talks about homosexuality six or seven times, talks about prayer 500 times. it talks about money and possessions 2,000 times. and according to the bible, slavery's okay -- >> bernard -- >> -- if you're an adulterer you should be killed. >> you're getting selective hearing. >> you're getting selective. my question was, also, what if this had come out -- to you, diane -- out of a muslim's mouth. and this is an important point. whether you have an orthodox jew, a muslim with koran, you get the same answer, but the response is different. is this real? or is this kind of a fake response? >> here's the whole thing, the question would be would that person be an a&e contracted person? we look at it from a contract

standpoint. he's an employee of this network. and what he was saying was not at a church, not in the privacy of his home. he said it representing a show. this is an entertainment vehicle. and everyone's forgetting that. and that's where you have to look at it. he would have been in trouble no matter what religion. >> he said it within the context of the show. this is reality tv. in reality tv if you get the kardashians, you get the kardashians. whatever show, you know, what's her name, snooki, you get snooki. you get the robertsons, you get the robertsons. where's the shock when a&e could've googled and their lawyers probably googled what he said in 2010.

>> he said it in a "gq" interview, not on the show. one of the things that bothers me here is that this is -- i was watching the old 1975 version of the stepford wives. and this is almost like the stepfordization of society here that if you say the wrong thing, you are going to be destroyed and then basically you have to come out and end up saying the right thing. in this case, it's not baking cookies and doing housework and taking care of the kids. it's basically making sure you say it will right thing about gays and everything else about the liberal agenda. and by the way, you don't have to be famous. like phil robertson. you can be a complete nobody like someone -- like a pr executive. if you say the wrong thing, then watch out, you're going to have a lynch mob coming after you. >> bernard, tolerance, i want to

go to the issue of tolerance. you and i have debated this a lot of times. if i don't agree with someone, i don't necessarily go out and attack them. there's an outward attack on christian position. whether he was articulate or not about what he said, it doesn't matter. it's his position and he has a right in america to state it even within the boundaries of being an at will employee. what about tolerance? isn't it feigned intolerance if someone doesn't say i don't agree with you, i wish he could have said it better. what he said parrots many in this country. >> and i don't think it's about tolerance. it's about being clear for taking responsibility for what you said. when people say things and do things, there are consequences and he's got to take responsibility. i don't think it's anything wrong for people that support gay people to come out and call him out and say, you know what,

that is vile, that's offensive, that's wrong, but i also think we can use this to have an open, honest discussion about how we have religious tolerance and tolerance for other people, in this case gay people live together in america. and i think we should use that opportunity to engage in this conversation. and we will, i think, over the next few months. >> everyone wants a conversation. i think we need a beer summit, maybe a duck summit out of this. coming up -- first, i'll give you my take on what's going on with the "duck dynasty" controversy and why most of the major sponsors are standing with phil, an important fact. one large restaurant chain announced it was pulling some of the "duck dynasty" products from the shelves. less than 48 hours later they reversed their decision because of you, the public and public outcry. and today was the deadline to enroll in obamacare but major issues with the website. enrollees have until tomorrow to sign up. he finally put his money where his mouth is. president obama's exchange

welcome back to "hannity." on friday -- before we go to welcome back to "hannity." on friday -- before we go to that. my take on what happened with "duck dynasty." this is brilliant marketing. let's look at this for what it is. the interview was done ahead of time, a&e was represented. there was review. they knew who phil is because you can google 2010 when he spoke. and then moving forward, you see what this is, the season's already been taped, look at the great ratings, a number one show. folks, welcome to brilliant marketing by both sides while we have feigned outrage on one side and support on the other. but the real secret here is who polls and who doesn't when it comes to entertainment. the major restaurant chain cracker barrel announced it was pulling some of the products

from their shelves in response to phil stating his position on homosexuality. but yesterday, cracker barrel reversed the decision in a statement on facebook. wrote in part, when we made the decision to remove and evaluate certain "duck dynasty" items, we offended many of our loyal customers. our intent was to avoid offending but that's just what we've done. you told us, we made a mistake and you aren't shy about it. you wrote, you called, took the social media to express your thoughts and feelings. you flat out told us we were wrong, we listened. today we are putting all our duck dynasty products back in our stores and we apologize for offending you. we respect the all -- we respect all individuals' rights to express their beliefs. we certainly did not mean to have anyone think different. tonight, we want to hear from you. what do you think about cracker barrel reversing the decision?

now back to our panel for more reaction. i'll go to diana falzone. this is the new cope. this is advertising, marketing, it was reviewed, written interview. the episodes are in the can except for the finale. and i say this is brilliant marketing and everybody's in on it. >> ding, ding, ding. i 100% agree with you. this is brilliant marketing. january 15th is the debut of the season. and remember, they said he's not off the show. everyone keeps saying he got fired. no, very careful language here. he's on an indefinite leave of absence. maybe he'll come back january 16th. >> bernard? >> you know, i wish i were that cynical, but i'm not. i think it certainly as part of the marketing blitz, went a little sideways, here's the thing -- >> we're talking about it, did it go sideways? any publicity is publicity to

spell the name right. >> this is probably more than the a&e folks would like, the thing with cracker barrel, they got in trouble in the '90s for being anti-gay. i think they didn't think this thing through. and quite frankly -- back in the '90s, back in the '90s, they actually had an official very anti-gay position, but this is 15 years ago. let's talk about now. i think, i'm not in favor of boycotts. i'm in favor of engagement, letting the marketplace decide. i think a&e did the right thing by putting them on leave but cracker barrel did the wrong thing by taking this off the shelves and putting it back on. i don't have to buy their stuff if i don't want to. >> but the market did decide. the market who goes to cracker barrel and, look, i eat at cracker barrels all over this country. great food, the stores are crowded. people buy all kinds of things there. the market decided because in

this country over 145 million christians and evangelicals combined and more, they spoke. what do you say to that? the market hasn't made its decision with cracker barrel? >> it absolutely did. it didn't just make its decision with cracker barrel, it made the decision a long time ago with walmart. a long time ago, even with a&e, the amount of viewers it gets with duck dynasty. this is the reason underarmour didn't pull away no matter how many people ended up criticizing phil robertson. i think the backlash went more toward a&e more than anything else. and the people here who i think are going to benefit most are going to be the robertsons here. >> and the bottom line here on this is people will be watching "duck dynasty" by the millions. to me this is brilliant, marketing, people can debate, he has a right to his position, the first amendment protects you from government imposing its

will on you. not from at will employment. and the only thing to say to this on all sides, tolerance needs to be reciprocal. >> and respected. and that was not respectful. what he said was not respectful. >> from the -- >> selective and not respectful -- >> yes or no? >> to -- >> was it someone who said what he believed yes or no that was already on the record? >> i'm assuming he believes what he says but also deserves to hear what other people believe. >> go ahead, diana. >> i was going to say probably the delivery, it was a little crass, not the scripture -- >> the article they wrote. this is why i'm a cynic. it was written -- and they wrote it. >> you know who i blame the most at this? a&e's publicist who stepped out of the room. this is a reality star who happened to fall into fame. he sells duck calls for a living.

welcome back to "hannity." ea welcome back to "hannity." earlier today the obama administration announced it was extending the deadline to sign up for obamacare one more day. meanwhile, we also learned today that after much anticipation, president obama did -- that's right, did complete the process of enrolling in obamacare, but he will not use it. again, he will not use it much

like many of you americans who have signed up. but are you able to use it? and active in signing up, well, it was all just a gimmick, unbelievable. here with reaction, radio talk show host rusty humphries and democratic strategist richard fowler. gentlemen, good evening, how are you? >> great, david. thank you. >> how are you? >> first to our democratic strategist, is this a gimmick after all? many americans have enrolled in obamacare, but the mechanism to actually use it doesn't exist. why does it matter if the president did the same? >> well, the mechanism usually does exist. and january 1st, folks will be able to get their insurance card, go to the doctor, get the health care they desperately wanted for years and years. i think what we saw from the president was a commitment to the affordable care act. there were some mistakes, errors in how the website was set up and rolled out. i believe in this system so much, i think we're going to get this right. therefore, i'm going to enroll. at the end of the day, the

history will judge whether or not the first two or three months worked, but three, four, five years from now, when americans can get health insurance, that's what history will talk about. >> we can't predict future history, rusty, and we can say we don't know what will happen yet to be fair on both sides. but signing up for something you're not going to use is walking into a storage christmas season and window shopping for something you want but not buying it. every day americans who want obamacare, and i'm speaking of those americans, will need to use this system. does that work out for them? >> well, first of all, he cares so much about it, he didn't do it himself, his staff members did it. that's number one, number two, wait until those people who sign up for obamacare find out how much that deductible is. that's going to be something that is going to be a huge sticker shock. we all know it's coming. and david, you and i knew this was going to be a problem. most conservatives knew it was a problem.

the only surprise here is that people on the left are surprised this is a problem. >> what's the real surprise here to you again, richard. for our democrat on the panel, do you support this law? do you support this entire obamacare rollout? for those that want to use it, if they can't use it, what do you say to them? >> i think the rollout could have been done a lot better. i support what the affordable care act stands for and what it means. and the truth of the matter is, when individuals go into the marketplace and go to the website or navigator in the local community or local clinic, they know the deductible is right off the bat. they say here's the paperwork, the policy you're signing up for, your tax credit is for the particular one you signed up and now you have a chance to receive

those benefits. we're only talking about a small population of the united states that will be part of the exchange. 85% of americans already have health care through their employer. >> what's the population of 15% of the -- richard, to you, what's the population, roughly? 15%, what's that number in america that will need to use obamacare? >> we're talking about a couple million people. >> 15%, couple million. >> 50% of those individuals have a pre-existing condition. so before the affordable care act, they couldn't get health care whatsoever at all. now they can get health care. >> rusty, to you, and i'm going to the numbers here. that's what i point with richard. 15%, 5%, these are millions of americans. and if they are to get health coverage, where are the people that are going to serve them that health coverage when it comes to the doctors, nurse practitioners, those in the medical field. where do they come from? >> they don't. and first of all, david, you just got back from afghanistan. you know what it's like and you've seen what it's like to have a really bad, bad health

care system. where in afghanistan, for example, you have to walk four days to get a nurse at certain times. things we can do to fix our health care system, we all know. it's not as bad as folks on the left would like to suggest. here's something else that's very, very dangerous. and i am surprised that more people in congress, even democrats aren't more concerned. we were told that the affordable care act was a tax. that's why it got through. now we have the president of the united states single handedly deciding who was going to pay a tax and not pay a tax based on his whims? what is the next tax he's going to change, next law? this is a bad, bad precedent, whether it's for obamacare or anything else. >> any president's ability to decide what to enforce or not to enforce with americans. the executive is charged with enforcing the laws as they exist. don't you have a problem with that as an american? >> oh, i think every time we pass meaningful legislation in this country whether it be

stimulus package or education bill. it's a job of the administration to write regulations of that particular law. what this administration has done is try to figure out how to best implement the law. this is not a walk in the park, not a one-time -- spent 50 years trying to fix the health care system. >> david -- i've got 30 seconds. 30 seconds left. you're not answering my question. rusty -- >> david -- >> enforcing laws whether it's immigration or obamacare or otherwise, presidents walk all over this. it's no the the executive's job to decide what to enforce. go ahead, 30 seconds. >> that's correct. that is correct. it's not the executive's job. but we also are looking at a case where this president just decides what it is he wants to do and what he doesn't want to do. and like you suggested, what

welcome back to "hannity." christmas day, one of my favorite days of the year is just around the corner. and that means the war against the religious holiday's in full swing. here to go over the latest and most outrageous examples of the left battle against one of the holiest christian holidays of the year, my good friend fox news radio's todd starn. i love doing these things with you, tragic as these stories may be in so many ways. first, todd, those member and women who protect our freedoms being told they can't use the word christmas? >> that's right, david. and this is a story you will only hear about on "hannity." i received some information from a soldier at the base. they were in a meeting getting ready to plan their annual christmas football tournament, an equal opportunity officer from the department of defense was in that meeting and said, hey, wait a second, you cannot use the word christmas to describe this football tournament. you have to use the word holiday instead. and the reason why is, they said not everyone celebrates christmas and people might be offended.

this is not the first time we might have an accident. just a couple months ago, i did an exclusive report on another briefing that labeled groups like the american family association as domestic hate groups as a result of our reporting. the secretary of defense put a hold on future training briefings. but, again, here at camp shelby, another example of this war on christmas all because you can't call a football game a christmas football tournament. >> if it was hanukkah and they were having a hanukkah football tournament, do you think we would've had an objection to that? >> oh, not at all. and this is not the first incident we've had involving the military. a couple of weeks ago, we told the story of the nativity scenes being removed from two air force bases because atheist airmen became so upset about a plastic jewish family they filed a complaint with the military. >> the tail wagging the dog, not

a good thing. down to alabama. and this is a shocking story to me. because i'm -- i'm a tolerance guy. if you have your belief, i'll be tolerant of it. this doesn't seem like tolerance to me. >> david, it's not every day in south alabama you have a bunch of grown men dressed in panty p gyrating down main street. but that's what happened at the annual holiday parade in a town called simms, alabama. a group called the prancing elites, an all male dance team was in the parade. and they -- i want to read this from the local news report. it's brilliant -- >> go ahead. >> dressed in red and white, santa sweaters and snug white shorts, the four young men performed a routine that entailed a combination of sharp thrust, swaying and elaborate e pristine make-up. >> pristine make-up. now, we have a response or a rebuttal on this.

>> the very last thing in the parade was a group of men dressed as women gyrating their hips and moving around in very suggestive inappropriate ways in front of hundreds of children. and i just was outraged and appalled. they were going to put this kind of activity in the parade, they should have notified the people of simms so we had a choice whether we wanted our child to attend and see something like that. >> this is a mom with children, this is where the inappropriate and outrage comes from me. >> this is duck dynasty country. unless those guys were sporting long beards and camo -- >> let's go to our third outrage. this is a school removing christ savior from silent night. >> that's right. happened out of long island, new york, the school the kids were singing silent night. mom and dad noticed some missing

>> do you never have a bad day? get down? i've never seen you down, which is good. i'm not complaining. >> you know, of course i do like everybody else. but i think my personality's naturally upbeat. and a lot of stuff i try to live what i teach. it's easy to get up and say i don't want to go to work. >> i've never done that. >> no. if you start the day off in a grateful mood thinking of what's right, i think it'll make your day go better. >> this isn't positive thinking, though. there's a difference between that and what you're describing as faith. there's a distinction, right? >> i believe there is. that's a part of it. you believe god's in control of your life. even when there's disappointment.

maybe god's closing a door. you keep moving forward, you have that sense of peace and trust that somebody's watching out for you. >> let's go through the five things. believing bigger. you're not talking about wanting a bigger car or bigger house. >> no, it's just not getting stuck in life. so many people get stuck and think well, my marriage's not very good, but it's all right. i can't go any higher because of my education. we put these limitations on ourselves. i didn't think i could get up and minister. my dad died and i felt like i was supposed to do it. but i had this in me i didn't know i had. i encourage people to take the limits off yourself. >> you jumped at the podium and started going. >> yeah. i started going. i knew i was supposed to do it. and here we are today. if i didn't have faith in my life, i wouldn't be here today. i really believe that. i don't know how some people survive life without that anchor. even when i'm not paying as much attention to that as i should, i know it's always there.

does that make sense? >> it does. and i feel the same way. it's hard enough to make it in life with faith. but without faith and you deal with loss and disappointments and hurts and health issues. that's a difficult thing. that's why we try to encourage people, you know, you don't have to be a religious person but you can turn to god and believe you have a plan and purpose for your life. >> why does prayer make you peaceful? slow you down? what is that? >> i think it's that connection with your creator. a connection with god. and the bible says if you'll acknowledge god, he'll direct your path. and sometimes it just takes during a busy day to say, god, help me, let me make good decisions today. feel a peace letting god be involved in your life. >> the average person will say pray god-sized prayers. you know what they're thinking. all right, that means i want a big car, a boat, a house. >> yeah. >> that's not what you're talking about. >> no, it's no the at all. it's this, sean, a lot of people, we pray over our food, our children or stuff like that. that's all good. but i think there comes a point where you have to pray over your dreams. what are you believing for? and by dreams, it's something to

help somebody else. not just, oh, god, make me rich, give me a bigger -- it's, god puts stuff in our heart to help others. i don't think you're going to become everything god's created you to be unless you say god i'm praying over whatever he's putting in there. >> do you think every person was put on this earth by god? >> i do. every person god breathed life into. i can't explain it all because there's people that do terrible things. >> that's what i was going to ask you, why do some people commit evil atrocities and acts? >> it's hard to explain, but you think about god created judas to betray -- >> and moses. >> i believe we're all made in the image of god we have a purpose and destiny. can't explain all of it. >> in everyday life, if you think if a just man sins every day seven times and the gospel tells us that -- >> yeah. >> that's a lot of sin. so there's no such thing as a perfect person. >> i don't think there is. and it's a free gift of salvation. says all of our goodness is like filthy rags. we try to live a good life, but you've got to come back and say, god, it's what you did through your son jesus.

>> you being evil knows how to give good gifts to your children. that's a pretty interesting line. >> yeah. and it goes on to say how much more will god give you good things? so i believe in the goodness of god. that's what our message is about. the scripture says it's the goodness of god that leads people to repentance. >> reading these books like "90 minutes in heaven." i read the book with the kid "heaven's for real." and it's interesting because they kind of both -- these are people that died and had an experience with an afterlife and came back and described it in books. and it's interesting because they're very similar in how they describe pearly gates and the music. have you ever experienced anything mystical like that in your life? >> no, i've never experienced anything like that. i've talked to people that have.

. >> we were on the ground there. we were on the air there. as a forces agreement with chic draw down of americans, are we going to leave the ball on their 1 yard line. key to the survival of the afghan republic is whether or not they're going to have an air force. there isn't a whole lot we knead to teach afghans about being light infantry. they are masters of the world. it is key that the afghan air force be able to support the many missions that are going to

be necessary for them. we saw tremendous challenges in front of them. >> in any situation we want freedom all over the world. and there are afghan stas want to be free. you and i have met with many of them in the past couple of days. this effort led by general john michele and nato air command is to give them transportation. the ability to get around afghanistan, to medevac to bring the dead home. in our history, we've seen the development of commercial aviation. and it helps to spread more and more commercialism, capitalism, dare i say it, possibly the growth of a nation. if we leave precipitously, what does that do to that part of the world? is this afghanistan's last chance?

>> well, you know, interestingly, as general michele was saying, he's not only training afghan aviators, he's helping to put forward a new breed of afghan citizens. you can remember the pilots we met, the afghan pilots, how proud they were in the c 208s. you're looking at a new kind of afghan, a person connected to the world. a person not burdened down by religious prejudices. >> these are really going to be the dmur of afghanistan. in their future going forward as a republic. >> do you see it? there are challenges here. let's not kid ourselves. anyone can turn at a moment's notice as a reality in

afghanistan. there are some who want a free society or possibly a future for themselves outside of the taliban, outside of the radical muslims, outside of that kind of area. >> you know, it's one thing for you and i will sit here and talk about what the afghans should do. how the country should go. it's another thing to be in an isolated valley, little village somewhere where you might see american forces, coalition forces during the day. but at the night, you're dealing with the talibs. that's the hard part. getting the country and getting the vinls so they are safe enough to move forward rebuilding their country. that's the important part. we talked about the war of the idea. weave got to win the war of the idea.
