7:00 pm
so it could have been worse, because they could have made me like the daily double, or the jeopardy answer, that would have been really tough, what do you think? would you have gotten it right? let us know, good night everybody, i'm megyn kelly! and welcome to "hannity." it is a new year and time to take the country in a new direction. tonight, on this program, i'll lay out the conservative solutions that would put america back on track. this is a hannity you can't afford to miss. on the eve of one of the coldest days ever, we'll investigate why billions of your hard earned tax dollars were used to study climate change in other countries. >> emotional times at the peacock network as yet another so-called journalist offers up a
7:01 pm
tearful apology over racial comments. >> i am deeply sorry that we think racial jokes are in any way funny or deserving of ridicule. >> fighting for life. >> we want to thank everybody that supported us, everybody that stood in our corner and prayed for us. >> we have the very latest developments regarding the 13-year-old california girl who was declared brain dead as the legal battle continues. all of that, plus our great, great american panel, glad your with us, happy new year "hannity" starts now. and all too often, conservatives are accused of just bashing president obama, and not offering solutions, now, let me be clear. i love this country and want to see america and every american succeed. now it is time for an early course correction. earlier today i released something on my website detailing the conservative solutions, i think, that can
7:02 pm
help to put america back on the right track. in a moment, i'm going to go through all of these, but first, let's take a look at the simple solution that will fix the economy. number one, a penny plan, a simple plan, you cut one penny out of every dollar the government spends, you do it every year for six straight years? guess what? you get a balanced budget. wouldn't that be great for our children, we're taking a sledge hammer and robbing their future. part two of the plan, we'll need conservatives who say no to any and all deficit spending, we have 72 billion in debt, part three, we must place a limit on the amount of money government will take from you, hard working americans. now, if those don't work, well, looking into our own energy resources that could also fix america's ailing economy. and also moving to the universal nightmare known as obamacare,
7:03 pm
what do we do to fix that? it is simple, that would allow you to purchase insurance. when it comes to the problems of the government legislators themselves, well, we need term limits, six years in congress, with only a term allowed in leadership. 12 years in the u.s. senate and only two years in leadership. we need fresh blood. and moving on to the problem of america's failing educational system, the conservative solution here is we have to save our kids from the schools. they have some of the lowest test scores in the country. the answer for our education system is school choice, freedom, and competition. and last but not least, when is comes to america's borders, the national security reasons, we have the first and formost, secure the borders, you can find more on hannity.com, and like us
7:04 pm
on facebook. and use hash tag hannity over the course of the next hour, joining me now with reaction to the vision i'm beginning to lay out, fox news political analyst kirsten powers. good evening to you. happy new year. kirsten, you're a democrat, $17 trillion in debt, we're raising the debt anywhere between one, 600 and $1.4 trillion a year. tell me why it can't work to cut one penny out of every dollar, every year for six years, all across the board, no exceptions in government. could that work? >> it could work, you know, but i also think you have to remember the deficit is projected to be dropping. so you know, to pretend that nothing is being done on deficit reduction is probably not entirely accurate. but i think there is certainly room for new ideas. you know what?
7:05 pm
sean, are you running for office? >> you know i'm not running, but i grew up, working as a bartender, a dishwasher, and construction, the opportunity we give our kids, we're stealing from them. isn't this an issue of mortality? >> well, actually there are jo s s available, there is a cultural issue, here, there are still bus boys, maybe american's work ethic could change, but the revenue has increased. government is taking in more money, very hard to get anybody to give up a dime for anything. i mean, the second you cut anything, everybody is crying catastrophe. we're putting children on the street, hurting this group and that group. you really need to get everyone to buy in on this. if you could do that, it would work. >> and that is the point, we
7:06 pm
have built-in increases all across the board, 8 or 9 or 10% a year, it is impossible to sustain this, isn't it, kirsten? >> yeah, it is one thing, i think we can definitely agree on. we have far too high of a deficit. we have you know, out of control debt. and something needs to be done about it. i do think obama has put some things in place that are perhaps not aggressive enough. and look, entitlements have to be put on the table because as we all know here, two thirds of the government spending is in just a couple of places. in entitlements and the military. and everything else you talk about you're basically talking around the margins. and so there has to be something that will look at where the bulk of our spending is coming from. and how it will increase as we have the increasing aging population. >> you know, the unemployment rate in north dakota is 2.6%, the unemployment rate now in midland, texas, is 3.2%, the answer, drilling on private
7:07 pm
lands, couldn't we institutionalize that. if you're unemployed in midland, you just don't want to work. >> and the same parts in north dakota and absolutely, the boom has taken place despite the government's best efforts. and could lead to the resurgence in the manufacturing area. that is what separates us from others, cheap energy. there are a lot of opponents of that, if they could get out of the way we could ride of pretty far. >> here is my prediction, kirsten powers, you love to tell me when i'm wrong. my prediction for the year, democrats will push hard on class war fare, raising the minimum wage, which by the way only impacts 2.8% of american workers and half of them are between the ages of 18 to 24.
7:08 pm
the republicans just want to coast on obama care until november 2014. no big ideas, solutions, status quo, what do you think? >> well, i do think the republicans believe they have a winning political issue with obamacare and will ride that all the way to 2014, mid-term electi elections. i guess i would disagree that describing the minimum wage is not substantive. there are a lot of people who would benefit with it being raised. if it has tracked with inflation it would be about ten dollars an hour. and i think we should at least have it rising with inflation. and then i think democrats are open to looking at other things like immigration -- >> would you be open for drilling? >> yeah, you know that i'm not opposed to drilling per se. i do wish that we could become more energy-independent and to cleaner fuels. but as long as we are going to be using fuel we might as well
7:09 pm
get it from the united states. what is the difference if you're importing it? then you're causing degradation to the environment somewhere. so i feel like we should at least be doing it here, creating jobs in the safest way possible. i'm not for offshore drilling, you know i support drilling in anwar, where there is really nothing there. i absolutely support that. >> why, tucker do i feel a sense -- we're all successful and work in tv. and i'll tell a dirty little secret, we're probably all overpaid, especially tucker. but we do pretty well in the television business, right? why do i look at one in six americans in poverty, and it seems to me unimaginable, and yet there is no sense of urgency, tucker, to really solve the problem. the deficit spending continues, the same old politics continues. it annoys me more that the republicans will do nothing bold than what i expect from the democrats.
7:10 pm
>> i agree with that completely, there is something really wrong. and you don't really see it until you get outside the coast and move toward the center of the country. i mean, lost in the debate over the minimum wage is why do we have native-born 40-year-old men working at wendy oruber cars or stocking on the third shift. there is something really wrong with that. these are people who should be in the prime of their earning years. these are like adult men, heads of families, works in the service sector, there is something basically wrong, whatever you think of it, it doesn't address the core element here. >> i totally agree, raising the minimum wage just raises the prices, minimum is still minimum. it tends to feed on itself. one of the proudest moments i had recently on my radio shows, recently i said, if i was in trouble economically, i would pack my bags and move to north
7:11 pm
dakota. believe it or not, people listened to me, making six figure salaries. and instead of importing oil from the middle east and having these sheiks get rich on us, why don't we use the resources we have, but it is not happening? >> i know, who is stopping it? >> obama, democrats, environmental groups to start. >> in some places that is true. but i don't think it is true everywhere. >> leases are down 40% under this president. >> yeah, i think it has become a hot button political issue obviously. and i think that it needs to be sort of depoliticalized and look at the impact on the environment, and if it is not that bad, creating jobs is the most critical issue that we're facing in this country. >> all right, guys, good to see you. one of the funniest moments we
7:12 pm
saw on vacation, we have global warming alarmists going to antarctica on vacation, and they get caught in ice. and tonight, we'll ask the administration why they spent $7 million in other countries studying global warming. and later tonight here on "hannity". >> we are dedicating to the wide diversity of families, i remind you it must be with the utmost respect. >> another reaction on the so-called journalist, the tearful apology to mitt romney. that, as "hannity" continues. it mayeem strange, but people re can love their laxative.

and welcome back, on the eve of what is expected to be one of the coldest days in history,
7:16 pm
wind chills in the negative 39 range, and in chicago, we're learning just how much the administration is wasting on none other than global warming studies. although there is record low temperatures all across america, between 2010 and 2012, more than $7 billion of your hard earned tax dollars was wasted on climate change studies in other countries. you can't make it up. now, it is pretty unbelievable, the administration's willingness to waste your money. and first lady michelle obama has extended her relaxing hawaiian vacation. now, she has done this on previous vacation, the estimated cost to you, the taxpayers, between 63 grand and $100,000, and by the way, that is low. here is more reaction to this, fox contributor joe trippi, good to see you. and before we get to the $7
7:17 pm
billion tax dollars, we have the global warming alarmist, they want to head to antarctica to prove that the ice melt is melting so fast, they got stuck in trapped ice, then the rescue ship got stuck in trapped ice. then, the united states, i assume we'll have to pay for it announces we'll have to send in a heavy icebreaker to free the ships. what are your statistics? >> well, back in 2012, there were report that is the arctic ice was growing, a million more square miles covered by ice, the scientists, don't they love facts and figures, well, facts would have told them otherwise. >> come on, joe, we heard in the 1970s from the same group of people the new ice age is coming. then we had made-up facts and scientists actually lied to us. now, you have to admit that is
7:18 pm
pretty funny that all the global warming people got stuck in the ice. >> well, it doesn't quite work the way you think, sean. the problem here is, no, it is a changing climate. it will increase -- >> changing climate? warming, cooling, and now changing, that is the problem. >> no, some places will get warmer, other places get colder. that is the way it works. >> if it doesn't rain, it is global warming, if it snows, it is global warming, if it doesn't snow it is global warming. >> the $7 billion that they spent looking into dplorm is a lot better than the $24 billion that the republicans blew on the government shutdown, so we can get into -- >> are you saying it causes ice? >> oh, no. >> no, i'm saying that if you think the global climate is not changing, i think you're wrong about that. there are lots of people, lots of scientists believe you're wrong. >> and a lot of scientists made up a lot of phoney data.
7:19 pm
dana, explain why $7 billion is spent on other countries, on global warming. >> well, i would love to know that answer, as well. what i find astonishing, the total hypocrisy from the left on this issue, they're people who claim we love the environment so let's put everything in solar power. at the same time, let's buy the bulk, we don't have any rare earth minerals histo s here in united states, we don't have what we need, so let's give china the environmental regulations, some think there is a pacific wall in the ocean that keeps any kind of pollution from coming here to the united states. which we know is not true because of fukushima, but besides that, this is all ridiculous. i don't know where the $7 billion went. i would love to know. >> well, when you look at 7 billion -- look, when you look at countries that are -- that
7:20 pm
may have famines because of lack of rain and those kind of things, that does involve us sooner or later. wars break out. and guess who has to pay with american treasure and american lives. >> joe, $7 billion. other countries. we are robbing our kids blind, joe. >> like i said, it is better than the $24 billion that the republicans wasted on the shutdown. >> and as americans will be freezing tonight, because some can't afford to put on the heat that money could help to heat their homes, joe, just remember, it is all about the children. >> blame that on obama, too. that is good. >> okay, if you inside? and the coal industry, and conservatives, guys, good to see you, happy new year. >> allow me to apologize to other families who formed through trans-racial adoption, i am deeply sorry that we suggested that inter-racial
