by the conduct of some of the people on my team. i'm responsible for it. it happened on my watch. the buck stops at my desk and so i have to act. >> and he announced his actions. >> this morning i've terminated the employment of bridgette kelly effective immediately. i've terminated her employment because she lied to me. i was disturbed by the tone and behavior and attitude, callous indifference that was displayed in the e-mails by my former campaign manager, bill steppien. as a result i've instructed bill steppien not to place his name for state party chairman. >> then things got tricky. >> i work hard at this job and

i'm -- it's incredibly disappointing to have people let you down this way. i'm incredibly loyal to my people and i expect in return their honesty and their candor and i didn't get it. >> very candid and forthright. eric, was the statement good enough? >> it was long enough. the interesting thing is chris christie fired people immediately. president obama didn't do that. no one got fired. chris christie held a long press con fence. you don't see that in the white house of lately. that said, chris christie left himself zero, zero wiggle room. so if an e-mail pops up with christie's name on it with the

senate return reply, he's a dead man walking. >> you would think he was trying that and check it out. a quick turn around is action. >> to his credit. >> dana? >> well, that is exactly the description i was going to use so i will let eric use those words instead. so i would say to chris christie, welcome to the big leagues, right? so now every move he makes is going to be scrutinized by everybody and in some ways he's asked for that, right? he puts himself out there in his great funny videos, every once in a while you will have a situation like this. now what happened is actually an abuse of power. power is very intoxicating and who you surround yourself with as a leader very much mat terse. i'm going to take him at his word. he seems very sincere to me. he seems hurt by the fact that his staff lied. what i love by his management style is in the reporting it says he called everybody into his office. he said, i'm going to give you one hour. when i leave this room, you have one hour.

you can go to the chief of staff and tell them anybody who knows about it. if you did, fine. we'll deal with it. nobody stepped forward. for as bad as it feels today, if you are a fan of chris christie or if you like to see good government or good management, this is an example of it. >> do you like that tactic and strategy, give them an hour, step forward. >> i love that. i say that. as leaders you want to find out the answer to something, they could force it. you have to have a good chief of staff to be able to be your enforcer and say, oh, but maybe -- an assassin but not in the literal sense. >> he's a little soft. water boarding would be an option. >> just a warning for the opposition party, democrats should not throw stones when it comes to incidents on bridges. can you show them again with that podium? i think it's brilliant. show him when he was walking in. that podium is huge. look how big that podium is. look how small he looks. it's almost as though he's lost -- >> it's how you feel.

>> exactly. i think that's depressing. i thought his presser was amazing in the sense that he outtalked the media. he smothered them in words. it was like watch -- it was like bing watching jake and the fat man. he did not stop talking which was smart. the point he made which was the reason -- here's proof that he didn't know about this was that he joked about t. he made a joke about moving the cones himself and if he actually had something to do with it he never would have joked about it. so the lesson here is before you do something bad, make a joke about it. that will be your way out. i think he did a great job. he sounded sincere, however, politicians aren't born to sound sincere. clinton sounded sincere when he denied his affair so i don't know. i think it's going to take a few more days to see where this lands. it's similar to the irs skapd dal, the targeting of innocent people because they didn't vote

for you. the only difference is obama got away with it. >> bob, you were watching this. you had some dmenltcomments. >> i'm going to take a counter view. when these people all backed up and the complaints came flowing in, why didn't chris christie ty pick up a phone and say, what's going on? he didn't do that. if i were a governor of a state and it was a major artery of my state and it was backed up and people were yelling, it seems to me you would call the head of the bridge authority and say, why are we closing this down to one lane? something i don't know about? that's number one. number two, new jersey, i haven't worked there politically, is notoriously a tough state. a guy would endorse it. that's why somebody decided on

his behalf. i don't think this is going to go away. >> maybe a lot of people don't realize what happened. you have this bridge that goes across new york/new jersey. on the new jersey side, fort lee is at the tunnel. that backs up with a lot of traffic. that depends on a lot of commerce, people getting out and up the palisades parkway. when the bridge backs up, stuff shuts down. fort lee shuts down. what you have to ask yourself, later on someone asked an important question, what kind of traffic study do you have to do to shut down two or three lanes of the busiest bridge in america, maybe on the planet? this is clearly, this is clearly -- they did it. they shot it down. they took a shot at him. you don't need to shut down lanes of traffic. >> but you made the point. >> morally despecificable. >> there were thousands apparently of complaints of

people. if you're chris christie why do you not ask the question. again, i go back to that. i think this is all very much after the fact. doesn't show good management on his part at all. >> nor by the chief of staff. one of the things that you need in a white house is good information flow. remember president obama says he doesn't know anything about anything ever. one of the criticisms is who's running the shop over there? if you get a ton of complaints into the white house operations center, that goes up to somebody in the white house, they make a judgment whether or not to let the chief of staff know and the chief of staff makes a decision cl to let the president know. i think it's right for him to fire the one person. >> but something else might be coming forward. >> you don't think it's an indictment on him? >> yes. >> is the irs an indictment on obama. >> yes. >> now it is. >> nobody ever told him the website wasn't going to work.

some people who might think he is. is he suitable in 2016? >> and i know that everybody in the political media and the political chattering class wants to start the 2016 race. i'll say what i said become r before. i am greatly flattered that someone would talk about me in my party as someone who would be a candidate for president. i am absolutely nowhere near beginning that consideration process. i am not preoccupied with that job. i'm preoccupied with this one. >> a point here. if he's not so preoccupied with that, why in the world would he accepted christmas cards to every state senator in the state of iowa to the first caucuss? who is he kidding? >> i even got a christmas card from ted cruz. bob didn't. >> can i make a point about this since you've dominated the floor. >> i have not. >> you have and i have a great

point. >> come on. go ahead. >> no, go ahead. >> i think that this unfortunate incident on the bridge is good for him politically because i've long thought that his staff surrounding him thinks a lot of him. they think very highly of him. he said he was humiliated and will be humbled. they'll be much more careful going forward. politically this could be a part where they start to get thartd you know what together. that's a good point. a teachable moment for potentially 2016. greg? >> i love that part when he said he was shocked. shocked by the callous tone of those e-mails. has anybody watched him for the past how many years? we fell in love with his callous tone. >> he's big foot. >> we at fox news loved it. i called it christie porn. whenever he would yell at somebody, it was amazing. remember the ice cream cone, walking around with the ice cream cone. he has a problem with cones.

>> get off the beat. >> the point is, he wasn't shocked by the callous tone in the e-mail, he was pissed off it was in the e-mail. >> your final thoughts? >> my final thought is -- by the way i have not done this segment. >> there will be a word count later. if you read the latest book, there was a double down about the vetting of christie for vice preds. he would not show up with all of his stuff. he was very late. there were questions raised about his brother. romney and obama said you can't get the stuff, we have to go buy it. >> the difference? >> you can't run new jersey and not have a few things in your background that are going to be a problem. democrats, they'll leave this alone. >> eric real quickly. >> the u.s. attorney had some issues with his brother, whether his brother is in trouble or not. i find two things very interesting. number one, i haven't heard any republicans standing up saying, hey, we back him. the rnc, i haven't heard anyone saying he didn't do a good job. >> they're way behind him.

christie has an enormous amount of coverage. the other thing about hillary clinton. i can understand why the obama piece is damning. hillary clinton, every politician makes political decisions when they're running. >> obama after i sent 30,000 troops in, i'm not sure. >> i said that was damning. >> highlight. >> he wants to not bury the lead. >> what about it? should they have covered both of them equally or did they do it right? >> that's fantasy land. when you're a conservative politician, that will never happen to you. if you're not the target to it, it's fun to sit back and watch the media lose its mind for a while over it over any topic. also in this situation you have a sitting governor who has just won re-election in a big way and you have been a private citizen, hillary clinton, although everybody assumes she's going to run, she's not right now.

this is why i think it's good for the christie administration, state governor, to go through this right now, because this is just the beginning of what will -- you know romney. romney's dog on top of the car? this will be christie's dog on top of the car. imagine during the debates. all the bridge jokes? you believe that governor, i've got a bridge -- ha ha. they write themselves. >> the dog -- >> the bridge set me up. >> the family has come out and said that the woman did not die because of that. >> what about the 1600 -- >> no. she said it wasn't ambulance related, bob. it wasn't due to the bridge. no, they came out and made a statement. >> let's bring greg in. has the gates news come and gone? has that news sailed? >> why didn't they call it gates gate? they missed a perfect opportunity. what happened to the this is a local story angle. that's a local story. however, we cannot sit here and

that reverend wright's claims were false. america is punished for being racist. how is this not a hate crime against police. maybe ed as ner and mike farrell can explain this to his widow or ask harry reid who gained the senate to ensure passage of horrid nominees like this one. this may be the first job that reid has nominated. this is about transferring the power to the people. even the phrase cop killer is just too mean, isn't it really just bigot control? who cares? the media will focus on new jersey traffic instead and ignore this. alas, christie casts a big shadow in everything. >> you didn't pronounce the names correctly? >> which one did i get wrong? >> i figured as much. i want to show, this is what the
