admitting he was response cybil for what his staff did. the governor did say, however, that he did not know they were messing with the traffic. honest folks will accept that statement but, if it proves not to be true, the governor is done on the national scene. chris christie is a bonafide presidential contender in 2016 on the republican side so reaction to his problem is very interesting. the woman he defeated last november said this: >> when this first surfaced back in september, i was convinced that christie was directing it. get to know how he operates. he runs a paramilitary organization. >> on the other side, rush limbaugh no fan of christies opined in this manner. >> have any of the rinos, the republicans in name -- moderate republicans. have any republican establishment types come out

and said that they support christie? they haven't. >> our pal glenn beck also hammered christie. for hard line conservative americans the governor, i should say is unacceptable because is he a moderate and actually helped president obama in the last election. there is no question that christie is a danger to the democrats. his feisty style would put hillary clinton or whomever gets the nomination on the defensive. that's why the "new york times" and other democratic organs have labeled christie a bully and today the "times" stated that the traffic mess happened because christie's administration is, quote: vindictive, unquote. now, i don't know governor christie. never met him. and hasn't appeared on the factor. we would like him to appear, but so far he has said no. so i don't really know what he is like. i do know what his image is a no nonsense politician who does not suffer fools. that's refreshing to many republicans who are used to

politicians like mitt romney who are diplomatic to a fault. if christie runs for president, it will be a political brawl. and that is what some republicans want. bring the fight to the other side. so that's why a traffic controversy has erupted all across the country. christie is not liked by some conservatives, but he is feared by some liberals. so both sides are happy with the governor's conundrum. and that's the memo. now for the top story tonight, federal investigation of governor christie and his staff. u.s. attorney paul frishman has announced the justice department will look into the traffic deal. the problem is mr. fishman is a big time democratic donor who gave 2300 bucks to hillary clinton for president in 2007 and supported other democratic candidates. joining us now to react new jersey resident geraldo rivera who is growing a beard in solidarity with swhows spokesman jay carney lawsuit. >> the guy from "duck dynasty." >> that long? won't be able to see your tie.

rollout, right? he hasn't fired anybody for the benghazi mess. he hasn't fired anybody for the irs scandal. and to the best of my knowledge holder hasn't launched any investigation. 10 seconds after this happens we have a federal investigation. by the way we know one of the reasons why this is happening but there is eakd reason i haven't heard any place ien and i would like to share with you, one reason, of course is, that chris christie could cause hillary clinton some problems in 2016. this is a perfect example of the media going after him for that reason. but the other reason is, journalists don't think anything is more important than themselves. and a lot of journalists use the george washington bridge to get to work every day. and believe me, that's one of the reasons this story is getting more play than hiro jima and nagasaki combined because if it effects journalists it's a big deal. >> now, christie himself,

lou's the boss segment tonight, the unemployment rate fell to 7.6%. lowest in five years. the job market continues to shrink. how can that be possible in author of the brand new book "upheaval" that economic guru lou dobbs see him on the fox business channel. i'm not an economist. i see the big picture. unemployment drops. job report is 72,000 was way under what they expected. right? >> way under.

almost just about two thirds lower than what they had been expecting. 200,000. and the labor force participation rate, the number of people actually out there available for work declined again. half a million fewer people in the labor force. >> that means they retired, right? they are out of here. >> they retired or discouraged workers. >> how does the government know that? i mean, how do they know they are out oof the labor force. >> that's one of your trick questions, isn't it? >> no. it's a stupid, simple question. how do they know? >> they survey households. they survey employers. and they come up with their best estimate and we call that knowledge. >> okay. so, they say, by their estimate, a half million people aren't even looking for work anymore. while the unemployment work is dropping. bad news they are going to have to get money from some place. the fact is 6.7% gets us two tenths of a point closer to

the federal reserve saying, you know, we're going to start thinking about interest rates, except the fed has amended its statements and now says they will not be held to that 6. a%. so everybody is worried about rates going up because of that lower unemployment rate don't worry about it. >> my only indicator on the economy is how much money people are making. and the median income is either stagnant or down that's where it is. the controversy in florida as you may know about the state wants to drug test people who are getting welfare from the state. and the federal government says you can't do that it's an invasion of privacy. just theoretically what do you think? should it be drug testing for welfare? >> i think, no. because at least under these conditions, if we're going to drug test those who receive welfare, then we should have addiction programs that would be absolutely mandatory. by that time you start getting into a whole issue of coercion of the individual. you know, if -- >> but if i apply to fnc, if

shocking study by four american criminal justice professors. it says that nearly half of all black males under the age of 23 have been arrested in the u.s.a. and nearly 40% of white males in that age group have been arrested as well. the study examined data from 1997 to 2008. joining us now from albany, new york, sean bushway one of professors who conducted the study the doctor teaches at all burn state university. what are these young people being arrested for, doctor. >> we know people arrested for the first time it's the majority are for relatively minor crimes like property destruction, drug possession, or disorderly conduct. but we specifically excluded minor traffic offenses from the study. >> so no traffic beefs unless it's vehicular homicide or something like that. no just driving beefs. but it seems to be a shockingly high number. one out of every two young black males arrested? does that say something about the united states? are we in a decline of moral values? what does that say?

>> well, i think the first thing to realize is that there is a relatively unique estimate. there is only one other estimate that we have in the literature from. 1967, in fact, and at that time they estimated 34% of males in this country were arrested at least once by the age of 23. so, the current number is around 4 -- is around 40% from our study. so, you know, it isn't a new thing that this level of prevalence. and i think people have to be aware that when you are talking about arrests, this is a relatively common experience. it's not rare. having said that there has been an increase in the last 40 years and i think that's partly due to changes in policing practice. >> we want to make a couple of points. number one, arrest is not a conviction. you just studied arrests and not convictions. number two, there seems to be a racial aspect here. although, not as much as some thought. 38% for whites. auto% for blacks.

you know, that's high. that's a high ratio when you consider the unemployment rate for african-american young men much, much higher than whites. much, much higher. now, is this economically driven in your study? is it because we have an economy that's boom or bust? is that have anything to do with it? >> i mean, i think that in terms of the racial aspect, it's interesting that we didn't find a racial difference for women. and these numbers aren't as high as if you look at the racial disparities for arrest rates from the fbi. the difference is we are asking a different question which is what is the cumulative prevalence of at least one arrest. the question here is just the level of do you have an arrest as opposed to how many arrests or whether you have more serious arrests. the economy. >> >> definitely possible. >> men overwhelmingly commit most of the crimes in this country and are arrested for most of the crimes. it's like 5, 6 to 1 arrests women to men.

i'm wondering if it is a sign of the times here that we have deteriorated as a country because people are more accepting of bad behavior? and that's theoretical. i don't know whether you got into that or not. >> you know, i think that remember, the numbers aren't that different than what we found in the 1960's. so it's hard to argue that this has been a dramatic shift. in terms of you know, we may be less tolerant of certain types of crimes than we were in the past. i don't know how many people got arrested for dwi in the 1960's but more people get arrested for that now. shifting standards and drug possession. i mean, during the 80's and 90's we saw dramatic rates for certain crimes. that's part of what you are picking up here. >> all right, doctor, we appreciate you coming on tonight. new gallup poll points how many are liberal, how many conservative and how many moderate? gutfeld and mcguirk sorting all of that out next.
