fact that republicans have to be intent on focusing, defeating democrats and not beating up republicans, let's talk about how republicans need to turn the tide to win elections. no one questions your i think your credibility as a conservative. but you are not taking to the idea of tearing down other conservatives. where do we go from here? >> you are right. i and a lot of folks, particularly governors elected in 2010. we share the frustration with the federal government being too big and part of our lives and we want to take action. we learned in wisconsin. and in my book, other governors learned we elected governors and republican majorities in our legislative bodies and that made all of the difference in the world. that's why in wisconsin, ohio and michigan and other states, iowa and particularly in the first three battleground states,

we not only won and got bold reforms done. why? a republican team is in place. in washington, we have house republicans, paul ryan, my good friend leading the way and pushing for true reform and the u.s. senate is controlled by harry reid and the democrats and have a democrat president for the next few years. for me, we shouldn't fight republicans in the primaries in the house and senate, but going to arkansas and lewisville and north carolina and alaska, where this year, in november, there will be real elections for the united states senate that determine the future of not only our party and country. we need republicans in those spots. >> if your state divided would the reforms have happen? >> no, not at all. i think that is true in michigan with right to work. and true in other reforms in the countries in states that

republicans have republican led legislative bodies and leadership. we had a team in place and great help not only from the republicans and tea party and elements in the state that said we'll help the hard working taxpayers be the ones in charge. if we had to fight our own party to do that, we would have had tremendous difficulties and a barrier to that reform, the real answer and i share the frustration that many do even after the budget compromise put together. the real answer is not to go out and attack republicans that tried to push reform in the house or to try to defeat them in primaries. but win the winnable elections in the united states senate and then after that a year from now the republicans hold the senate and house, then we can't get it done. then it is to hold people in the party accountable. but i think there is some on our

side to hold their breath until the other side takes on our posiing. the reality is holding your breath too long all that leads to passing out. we need to make sure we are not passing out and we fight, not only now but a game plan to win in the future and 2014, is that all important year to get the sant back and two years for a republican president. it is not only winning elections. but rain reigning in the debt and putting the power back in the hands of the american people. we can't do it if we are splintered off in many directions. >> governor scott walker, great to have you here and thank you for joining us and look forward to seeing you soon. >> thank you, good to be with you, governor. we lost. we can get back to what is touching peoples lives and that is the economy and obama care and we stay focused on that we can win in 2014. >> matt, no one voted for obama care or a tax increase in the september right now that i am aware of, where are the points in which we need to say, these republicans are not good guys and we need to get rid of them? >> there is a long history of frustration in the primaries. when we challenge an incumbent and also when the gop establishment rallies around someone like charlie crist who is now a democrat. and we have had this problem, tray grayson in kentucky whom mitch mcconnell got behind instead of rand paul and he is a co-chairman of the democratic super pack. some politicians for office too long. and we need accountability and that helps the republican party

win. we win when we stand for something and authtentic. and win when grassroots america believes we'll do what we ran on. in the margin. we spend resources and time going after democrats because they are the guys driving up the debt and they are the guys causing all of the trouble. but we win when we support republicans that share those basic values. >> i believe in term limits. to me the ultimate way to get rid of people that have been there too long is you have a limit and you have to go home. i believe in that forever and i still believe in that. >> there are senators, that have been in washington almost as long as i have been alive. that's not the way it should be. it is their policys that have gotten us into this mess. we can't blame it only on the democrats. the republicans have contributed to it as well. and we need to change things. it is not working.

let's try fresh ideas from the new guys that are actually out there in touch with america. they breathe the air that is outside of the washington d.c. bubble. and how nice is that? they are not drunk under the -- >> that's a good point. let's say you have a challenger and he doesn't win, should we then unite behind the person who is the nominee believing look, it may not be the perfect republican but better than the democrats that might win if he is it not, is that valid? >> i think we should do that. but our sense, particularly since 2010 and 12, is that sometimes there is two sets of rules. sometimes the tea party guy wins the primary and the establishment republican bolts the party and splits the vote. it happen in alaska. it happen in florida and other places and sometimes, our activist feel like they are supposed to do the right thing

>> we are talking about bringing the republican party together agreementandy joins us from washington. andy, i appreciate you being here. i think our audience needs club for growth we have had a little thing going for a while. you know, you guys spent a lot of money and time coming after me before. i've reciprocated but get to the hard facts. what is the criteria for the club, club for growth. what is it you look for in a candidate to support. donor driven or issue driven? >> first of all thanks for having me and i would like to go back to a comment that you made i believe in 100 percent in. we shouldn't be attack each other if we believe or agree on 90 percent of the issues. in fact club for growth has a congressional scorecard to receive a defender of economic

freedom award for the club for growth you need a 90 percent or above. those are the kind of people we love to get elected for congress. when the club for growth find a conservative challenger to a incumbent republican that does not have a 90 or 58 or 68 percent like mike simpson in idaho or septemberor in mississippi two incumbent republicans that the pack is trying to remove. >> i look at what they have term limits and balance budget and i agree with all of that. so why does a guy like me or tommy thompson get targeted by club for growth. >> if we want to relitigate your record as governor. we went through with a fine tooth comb and found not a 90 percent record that we like and that is simply why we opposed

your candidacy for the presidency. >> hold on just a second. when you look at it. you don't look at it in the context of 89 or hundred democrats in my house and 31 out of 35 democrats in the senate. i didn't get a lot of stuff i wanted. but look at the context. you judged me for stuff i didn't do. i will not go back and relitigate it. but i guess my point is when the club for growth spends money going after a republican, does that do particular to the republican if he or she wins the primary and becomes beaten up before the general election? >> governor, i think the difference between your view and my view, you presume all republicans are 90 percent and above and we agree on all sorts of issues overwhelmingly. i don't think that is the case. what matt and amy said on the segment before and i agree with.

a lot of republicans that vote like democrats. and they are the ones that do damage to the gop brand. let's remember that nancy pelosi and harry reid and obama, all came in power precisely because voters had enough of the gop during the bush years with all of the spending and earmarks and new entitlements and the new restrictions on political free speech. it was enough for them. and they thought that the democrats could provide an alternative. when they found out the democrats are worse. that's when the tea party movement came back and started reflourish. i don't want to go back to the old way of bush years of more spending by the republicans. we need to consolidate the republican party around the conservative principles and not liberal principles. >> do you think we would be better off. i don't disagree about the conservative principles.

i hold to them a lot more than guys you did support. but my question is, if the guy you targeted wins the primary anyway, will the club say okay we lost the primary but we'll try to win the general. is that the club's position or do you leave the guy bleeding? >> that's another preassumption that is not correct. it doesn't back all republicans in all elections. just because we want a republican majority. we want a conservative majority. if we believe that the candidate run nothing the general election will fight for conservative values we'll support them over the democrat. if we don't believe they will, we won't. >> is there a criteria and something a person can go to and say this is what the club will stand for. is it the aunt tisity of the

view and who makes the decision. who gets to decide what republican purity looks like? i have not had anyone help me understand. >> go to the club for growth website. they are income issues and taxes and spending and regulgdz and free-trade. when we endorse a candidate there is a committee in the club for growth and we have a stringent process and interview the candidates and do research and opposition research as possible. and we make a decision based on the evidence that we found. >>andy, i appreciate you coming. the club for growth and mike huckabee have not been big pals. i would like to continue the conversation sometime and where we would have time to relitigate those issues. would you do that for me! >> i would love to do that, governor. >> thank you for coming. >> thank you, god bless.

the president refused to to negotiate a statues of force agreement. anyone can see the problems that that was going to create. you had unrest in germany after world war ii with the we're wolfs and other organizations and we maintained a presence to secure the new government. and the president opted to end the war for his own political purposes, not for the security of the region. and so it is disheartening to see what is happening. >> brian, i look at you. you are in a wheelchair and lost a arm and legs in the place where the al-qaeda flag flies. i can't but wonder when you see the flag fly and read the comments that robert gates former defense secretary attributeed to hillary clinton where she said essentially, the policies and the decisions that were being made about iraq admittedly were political and not policy, not made in your

interest, but made for the best interest for the survival of the politicians, when you heard that, how did you respond? >> i thought it was disgusting to see how the politicians are putting themselves forward instead of the people forward of our nation and soaps like they are more about furthering the party and personal agenda than taking care of the americans and our soldiers and warriors who give them so much. i lost a lot of friends in iraq and to see that flag flying is a disgrace. it is a disgrace how they handled the war. >> are you angry? >> i guess you could say i am angry in >> i am angry in the whole system in general and see how the politicians are handling what they do. they are not putting america first and it seems to be the status quo of general politics these days, and you know, people need to put americans first and everyone

involved in america needs to be priority number one and not a personal agenda because they run for president or not. it should be the people. >> you left two of your legs and one of your arms in iraq, sometimes ask yourself what was i there for? >> i never ask myself that. i always remain positive. and i wouldn't take anything back at all. what happened to me changed my life and made me who i am today. and i am just thankful that i am alive and that's pretty much it. >> as we all are and grateful that you are alive and grateful that it you have continued to love your country,ine if the country may have not loved you as much as it should. colonel, when i think of the policies that we had. did we have a clear objective in iraq and did we achieve that? >> the policy that launched us into iraq was the iraqi liberation act and it was good

policy signed by president clinton in 1998 and called for a regime change. and we went in with clear objectives and over throw saddam hussein's army and defeat the government and forces in the field and set up conditions for a new government to come about and allow them to take control of their own country and we will be allies. we net that objective. when the status of force agreement was not negotiated there was a vacum. >> that would have allowed americans to help transition to a stronger government. they were not prepared to take over their own security. >> they were not and most of the senior leadership as secretary gates and other service chiefs attest, they wanted a standard of force agreement. it doesn't mean we would not be fighting forever. we have not fought in germany.

you have to take the longer view. look, people think that saddam hussein mads the trains run on time. what nonsense. he was evil. he killed 350,000 of his own countrymen and 20,000 tribal political opponents and attacked every nation other than syria and we know what a nation. he gassed entire villages. it is one of the hallmarks to have helped remove him. and we can't be apologietic for removing evil. imagined middle east with saddam hussein in play. brian and i have nothing to regret over what we did over there nothing. >> brian, if you bumped into hillary clinton, i would love to know. what would you like to say to her? >> i would tell them, you know, i think i can speak on behalf of most americans and we are disgraced with having her

are responsible, it does make a difference. in fact, the department of justice revealed research that that is one of the biggest deterients to abating violence is armed citizens. and we know. >> and chief, it is like the department of justice and so many people have done everything they can to keep people, law a abiding citizens from getting fire arms and protecting themselves. i am sure people were upset wu. did you get push back from that? >> oh, certainly. i got push back. i have a unique perspective. i have been a police chief in my third city and i have a one dimensional look at the issue spending so much time in l.a. and maine was the turning point for me. and while i recognize and many chiefs in other larger cities with violence reduction can talk

about their crime statistics and data driven and that does work. detroit now operates very much like la with comstat like new york, and again, we have a violent culture here in detroit. it is probably unlike a lot of other places. i am excited we have seen a 17 percent down turn in homicide last year. i wish i could have been in the start of the year we would not have cracked 300 homicides. but i know the viulent felons in the streets are concerned about armed citizens than police. why do i say that? we made arrest with suspects with body army. they wear body armor to protect themselves from criminals. but also they know good citizens are armed. and they also, the suspects, they on occasion will cause the victims to disrobe because they
